Spent about 6hrs building and magnetising today (well, plus chatting and grabbing food, I was at the gameshop afterall). All told there'll be 8 melee weapons (2 magnets each (16)), 8 shoulder connections (8 arm mags + 4 for shoulders (12)) , 4 torso magnets (4), 6 magnets for the chest each (12), for 44 magnets across the box of 2 penitent engines. That's nearly half the box of 100 for two bodies!
The system for the weapons I copied from a vid, it's simple but genius. The melee weapons are built into the arms, and the ranged weapons are 'removeable' but it'd be a pain and a half every time and likely break. So just glue down the removeable ones and cut off the attached ones XD It'd work better with smaller magnets, this was all they had, but it gives a nice clunky cyberpunk wrist/joint I enjoy the look of, and it mostly flows into it. Plus, the more powerful bigger magnets give a super satisfying click and won't fall off
The flails turn btw, it's a default option that's nice to include. Close to half done. Only thing I'd do different is actually drill the leg magnet, it's not enough room to actually pose it left over
Super excited to have every wargear for my penitent engines at the drop of a hat :3

Cleaning up the mould lines on a Penitent Engine is more uncomfortable than piloting one.

Theres something so incredibly hot about the mortifier, its like several layers of k1nk stacked on top of eachother, youve got mecha, sad1sm/mas0chism and encasement 🅱️DSM all in one.
Words cannot describe how badly I need to find an A03 fic or commision art where a sister who fled in battle is interred in the mortifier sarcophagus, scared and in tears ya get me? Does anyone feel this? Is this thing on?

Needless ... Sacrifice
(This is dark... you've been warned.)
Joan's tears had dried by the time she had activated the binding systems of the small robotics laboratory owned by her family. Stripping away her armor and civilian clothing she slipped into the thin linen hooded robe. She knew she had limited time. Her family would arrive soon to stop her. She had no doubt about that.
Closing her eyes she took a deep and slow breath. Pyrrha had sent her away, fearing for her life. Fearing that her lack of combat skill would hinder her battle with that... woman. It broke Joan's heart, which was further torn asunder as she knew Pyrrha was scaling that fucking tower to face her death.
Joan had made a desperate plea to Weiss and Ruby. An attempt she hoped would save the woman she loved, but fear was was a stronger motivator. Joan feared her plea for aide had come to late... she feared Pyrrha was already dead. It was her shame to not be strong enough to stand beside her. Her sin to be judged wanting...
Looking up from under the white linen hood she allowed her sorrowful eyes drift over the technological nightmare standing before her. No one in her family understood where the construct came from, or why they had access to it. It had just always been. Though it was through study and testing that her family had made massive advancements in medical prosthetics.
Joan knew the mechanical horror was not a medical aide. It was easy to discern that its true purpose was combat. It was that purpose she was going to reinstate.
Stepping onto the platform before what had always been assumed as the pilot bay, she took another breath, and turned. A sharp crack of glass being struck alerted her to the arrival of those of her family that could be spared from the conflict. She didn't look towards them even as the sound of breaking glass filled the room.
Stepping backwards as she stretched her arms out to her sides, she closed her eyes... a single final tear rolling down her cheek.
"JOAN!!!!!!"
It was her mother's voice. Filled with hurt, fear and desperation. Joan allowed that sound bury itself deep inside. Sealing it in her heart just as the pain overwhelmed her.
/==/
Pyrrha stared on in abject horror as Ruby supported her. her emerald eyes gliding over the battlefield that Beacon's grounds had become. Pyrrha knew she had faced her death upon the top of Beacon's tower, and she was eternally grateful that Ruby had reached her in time to prevent Cinder from landing that final finishing strike.
But now, the joy of being alive. The hope of seeing Joan, the woman who owned her heart and soul was rent and torn. The battle had turned into a rout. The rogue members of the White Fang and their allies had been driven back. The only fighting that remained was with the roaming grimm.
That was not however what was ripping Pyrrha's very being apart. She watched as through smoldering debris as mechanical monstrosity prowled, unleashing gouts of searing flames upon any grimm it encountered, or dug in groups of White Fang.
The howls and screams of agony rising from it's victims sent shivers up her spine, but what was worse. What was heart-rending was the cries and screams of the figure securely fastened to the front of the construct.
"Joan?" Pyrrha wept and sobbed. "Joan... what have you... done?"

Going crazy thinking about the complexities of Donatello and his relationship with his emotions in tottmnt just auuaua !!!!
Like, he's outwardly and unabashedly kind in this iteration and I'm SO here for it !!! And it doesn't diminish his ability to be snarky and witty, he still throws jabs at his brothers, but I feel like this donnie is a return to form in the sense that the center of his character, the motivation for his intelligence and penitent for creation, is kindness- more importantly, empathy.
routinely he is described as thoughtful, 'non-threatening', and usually very placid; we see mention of his temper when his computers are messed with, but he's extraordinary patient- polite, even- with the killer robot chasing him, subway security, and the blind conductor, all while under high-pressure stress. When confronting the Mechazoids for the first time, he keeps them at a distance and straight up complements the engineering ingenuity! Same when confronting bishop in the subway! He talks enthusiastically, respectfully, with her about her system setup! His first instinct is to diffuse the situation, approach her with humility and establish common ground. Dude like even when running away from the Mechazoid he was always thinking of the people around him.. he was telling everyone to get out of the way, waited for cars to clear (his brothers just straight ran through traffic and jumped over moving carsss), tried to usher people away from train cars he was fighting in, etc. And in the narrated recaps between episodes, donnie is the first brother to consider bishops motivations in an empathetic manner, "maybe she has a tragic back story". Of course that serves as thematic foreshadowing buy he was still the first to offer the kindness of reason to bishops character, maybe there's a reason she's doing this, not just anger that she is.
Not to mention he full ass built a robot to protect his brothers and took the extra time to program in impeccable manners. just for funsies heheh. eueueu Metalhead my beloveddddd😭🙏💙💙💙💙
ALL THIS and yet still, in episode 10, donnie considers himself non-emotional. He says he's 'all left brained' and implys that he operates differently from his brothers who he considers more outwardly emotionally expressive. And yet, in the same episode, he spends a majority of it comforting wingnut. He lends his ear and speaks to her kindly even when her panic exasperates their situation, he doesn't get mad when she freaks out, he takes the time to talk things through with her and make her comfortable whenever able. Even when they think Leatherhead has unmutated, he's sad but tries to put himself in her situation and understand her actions. HES SO SWEET IT HURTS DUDE ❗️❗️❗️ main point being, I dont think he considers himself emotional because he operates on a mode of empathy that is reason driven. He's emotionally logical, of that makes sense. It shows an INSANE amount of emotional intelligence and maturity, I just don't think he understands that because to him, this is logical, and his brother are anything but.
For a majority of his life, the only other people he has to compare himself to are his brothers. When up against anxiety riddled Leonardo, chronically angry Raph, and Mikey's carefree disregard, of course he sees himself and goes, 'ah ok. I must be less emotionally prone because I don't react like they do to these situations'.
I think he just understands the whole social song and dance of understanding better than he thinks.
I know the whole thing with tottmnt is the aspect of unreliable narration, but even then! Like if Leo wrote donnie like this then it probably because he routinely displays this kind of understanding behavior. Plus idk bout yall but I kinda consider the events of tottmnt as like a blurry semi-cannon? I think there are nuggest of truth in there, the broad strokes yk? Like the flood arc referenced 'the bishop situation' like it was a thing that actually happened, albiet in passing, and not just something to poke fun at Leo. It's got legs, there's ideas there to work with ajaja
#long ass rant about donnie#guess who my favorite turtle is IMPOSSIBLE EDITION#hyperempathetic donnie my beloved#love love love the direction they took him in this show#he reminds me of a mix of like 2003 donnie and tmnt vs batman donnie#coincidentally my two favorite donnies 🥺👉👈#tottmnt spoilers#tales of the tmnt#tottmnt#tales of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#tottmnt donnie#he should be given more credit his brothers would have NOT been able to handle wingnut in ep 10 while also almost being eaten#maybe mikey could#Mikey my beloveddd#leos anxious ass could neverrrr

Fuck GW for making the new "model" for Grey Knights an upgrade sprue for the Dreadknight. We hoped for maybe a new Draigo, possibly primaris scale terminators. This feels like a slap in the face. Even the battleforce is mid. It's just an upscaled combat patrol.
I definitely don't understand the insistence upon the Dreadknight. It's a penitent engine without the horror. It's the Paragon Warsuit without a fraction of the cunt. It manages to get so much wrong from every aesthetic angle. There are more deserving GK units that need refreshes or new bits for sure.

Since my brain is still in an Adepta Sororitas fixation, allow me to post about another cool/awful thing the lore says about them.
Penitent Engines are basically the Imperium's version of crucifixion. But somehow they made it even worse.
Penitent Engines are walking tanks, usually fitted with short range weapons or even long blades that force the machine into melee combat with their enemies. Crucially, the pilot of these machines is strapped to the front, with no armor or protection whatsoever. Because if they are to die in battle, they will be punished while defending humanity. And if they survive, then the Emperor must have clearly deemed it so.

Penitent Engine pilots are people accused of horrific crimes, or have committed sins of such true depravity that mere imprisonment or execution via lasgun is deemed too kind. Many sisters of battle who think they have failed the Emperor volunteer to be strapped to these machines in order to seek forgiveness.
The sisters of battle often use these volunteers to serve as heavy infantry support vehicles, throwing themselves into the thickest parts of battle in order to break enemy lines.
The pilots are not just strapped to the machines, they are force-injected with a cocktail of drugs that keep their bodies alive even as they are torn apart in the midst of battle, every sensation magnified a thousand times by the potent drugs to ensure they don't pass out or their brains ignore the trauma inflicted on them. Sometimes they are even forced awake at all times by the machine, denying them even the peace of sleep.

#don't ever think for a second that the Imperium are the 'good guys' of the setting#there are no 'good' factions. just different level of assholes#there are also sisters repentia#sisters of battle who seek forgiveness by going into battle naked. or at least wearing the bare minimum clothing#often covered in purity seals and/or hoods to hide their shameful faces#and wielding a giant chainsword or other big weapon#they go into battle for the same reason. expecting to die or to find forgiveness for their sins#Youtube

I always liked descriptions under unit images in Forgeworld/6-7 ed GW books, especially vehicle descriptions.
Like, "This is Dark Angels Predator Destructor SANCTUM UBERANUS, that wqs in service for eight thousand years and responsible for destruction of column of traitor tanks in Sraka II campaning"
And there is just a fucking regular predator painted in regular Dark Angels colours. And its armed with a autocannon as primary gun. I mat be amused by stupid things, but this kind of stuff was amusing to me.
So, since then, when i build/painted vehicles for my marines/chaos marines, i always came up with some kind of backstory, sometimes displayed in the model itself
For example, this is ATROXI IRAE(of course it must be named with vague latin words), and its ancient Predator Annihilator of Chainmasters Black Legion warband

It was in service for uncounted number of years and has gone through many modifications and changes. During the assault on Adepta Sororitas fortress, this tank, being the only one left in the squadron, managed to destroy the defensive lascannon turrets, which allowed the fortress to be taken, but in this assault, its power plant was damaged and its capacity was not enough to charge the capacitors of the sponson lascannons. As temporary solution Warpsmiths of the legion installed on the tank armor two sarcophagi from the looted Sororitas Penitent Engines and wire it up to the lascannons. Captured sisters was put inside, where their pain and agony was transformed into pure warp energy and fueled lascannon fire and their screams, amplified, was broadcasted through Dirge casters at the front of the tank. To this day, even through it repaired its power plant, Atroxi Irae, uses this cursed contraption and roams on battlefield of 41 millenium.
And, you may ask, has this tank lived up to its edgy backstory in the few months since I painted it?
No, fuck, not in the slightest. I cant remember a single enemy model with more then 7 wounds that it destroyed. And among the 8-9 games where I used it, there were three where he, living until the 4th or 5th round, did not inflict a SINGLE WOUND on his targets with its lascannons.
And, fun fact - dont paint until you almost sleeping. When I was painting it, having almost finished the hull, I stayed up until two in the morning, deciding to finish it that day. Having painted the hull, I decided to cover it with varnish and leave it to dry overnight. But my sleepy ass mixed up the cans and a few seconds later I watched as the result of five hours of my work was covered with white primer on top of the paint. I almost throw it into the wall.
