Alright, time for some Shire appreciation
Western Mass has:
The tallest mountain in Mass, Mt Greylock, which was the inspiration for Moby Dick (Melville’s home is in a nearby town and viewing a snow-covered Greylock gave him the idea for a white whale) as well as a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes and a horror story by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The home of Norman Rockwell, now a museum, as well as dozens of locales (and people, although fewer as time goes by) featured in classic paintings of his
The homes of Edith Wharton, Emily Dickinson, and William Cullen Bryant, plus the Dr Seuss and Eric Carle Museums, Mass MoCA, and the Clarke Art Museum
The birthplace of basketball and basketball hall of fame as well as the locale of the first written evidence of baseball (sorry, Cooperstown fans, the Doubleday thing is a myth)
The hometowns of Penn Jillette, Misha Collins, Elizabeth Banks, plus the birthplace of Matthew Perry, and adopted hometown of James Taylor as well as numerous other celebs with seasonal homes in the area
A castle and a crapton of Gilded Era mansions
A Gilded Era theater that was hidden in the back of a paint store for half a century
Tanglewood
And, perhaps most importantly, the town with the highest number of lesbians per capita in the US (also, not coincidentally though less importantly, Smith College and a dozen or so other colleges that aren't UMass)

I Kissed a Girl
Tumblr media
Title: I Kissed a Girl Pairing: Jennifer Jareau x Reader Prompt: 4. "Shut up and kiss me already." R WC: 582
"What the hell is going on?" JJ asked as she looked around the sorority house. Despite the fact that there had been a string of murders on campus, the house was still going as if the girls were planning some sort of party. Y/n smiled as she walked around the house and took it all in. Everything was exactly the way that she remembered it whenever she had graduated college and left for the FBI Academy. "Don't they know that there's a murderer on the loose?"
"Oh course they do, but Elsie also knows how important it is to not scare everybody. The sense of community is very strong on this street," Y/n said. JJ rolled her eyes as she followed Y/n through the house. JJ had been dumbstruck whenever Y/n had revealed her past as president of this sorority, and the information didn't get any less shocking as JJ explored the house. The house reflected a group that knew exactly what it was being seen as from the outside. It was all very girly and had at least a hundred pictures of each class of girls from its past, as well as the wall of past presidents. JJ stopped as she came to the one with Y/n's name written on the plaque.
"Wow, President Y/n Y/l/n," JJ said as she pointed up at the picture. Y/n nodded and gave JJ a look of pure pride. "I thought you were a sports girl."
"I did a lot of things. Gamma likes their girls to be well-rounded. We get the majority of the STEM majors, athletic scholarships girls, and non-legacies. The campus made fun of us for decades, but we've produdced all of their most respected alumni," Y/n said. JJ hummed as she turned down another hallway. Y/n was about to try and stop her, but it was too late.
"Very respectable. When exactly was this taken?" JJ asked as she pointed at the picture of Y/n and a group of other girls in a pool together. Y/n and the girl making out with her were obviously the focus of the picture, which was proudly displayed on the wall. "Katy Perry party?"
"N-no, it's from a Beta Kap party my freshman year. The girls put it up after I came out to show that they supported me," Y/n said. JJ wrapped her arm around Y/n's shoulders as they walked down the hallway a little further to look at more pictures from past parties. "You know, that girl back there was the president of the sorority that year."
"Did she know you wanted her place?" JJ asked.
"I didn't at the time, but the alumni pick the candidates for president. She put my name in, even after our breakup. I left her for this super hot Penn State soccer player, she was a forward. My team made fun of me because I kept letting her get goals in on me when we'd play against each other," Y/n said as she turned and smiled at JJ. JJ blushed as she thought of the games that they had played against each other in college, back before either of them had really envisioned this life for themselves.
"Shut up and kiss me already," JJ muttered as she tried to hide her blush. Y/n didn't need to be told twice and turned to give JJ a very dramatic and Hollywood kiss.

i am so tired of women being reduced to the men they’re associated with.
i was watching the jimmy fallon show “that’s my jam”, which is a music game show. during one of the challenges, one of the partners had to describe an artist to the other partner without saying their name. for both rounds a man was describing the people to their partner. each time a male artist came up, they would describe their accolades and their music. when they were describing female artists, more often than not they would mention a man they’re associated with first. for taylor swift, “if she has a boyfriend, she’s going to write a song about them”. for katy perry, “russell brand is her ex husband”. for lady gaga, “she was in a movie with bradley cooper”. for MADONNA, “she dated sean penn”. all women who have incredible accomplishments outside of the men they happen to be with. all women who are pioneers in music. and my mom didn’t understand why it upset me so much that that was happening. because these women can be associated with these men, so what’s the issue. the issue isn’t the men they’re associated with. the issue is that only women are associated with men. men are allowed to have their own accomplishments. women are with men first, then you can mention their accomplishment. the problem is, IF YOU ONLY RECOGNIZE WOMEN BY THE MEN THEY ARE AROUND, YOU ARE MAKING MEN MORE IMPORTANT IN YOUR EYES. you are placing men above women. you are not letting them be their own person. you are tying their value to men.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus discussed potentially ousting Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) from the conservative group during a closed-door meeting on Friday morning, three sources familiar with the conversation confirmed to Axios.
WHY IT MATTERS: The discussion comes in the wake of Greene taking aim at Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Co.) on the House floor, where Greene called the Colorado Republican a "nasty little bitch" after Boebert introduced competing impeachment resolutions.
• Two sources said they felt Greene's behavior was "unprofessional," with one critic arguing that members are becoming increasingly frustrated with the Georgia conservative for a variety of reasons.
• "No decisions were made," one GOP lawmaker said, adding that the group had a "wide-ranging" discussion on a variety of topics.
• Three GOP lawmakers cast doubt that an ouster would actually take place, noting some long standing members have reservations about the move and a removal would require an 8o% majority.
THE INTRIGUE: Conservative critics beyond Boebert have taken issue with Greene shifting from being one of leadership’s leading critics to a vocal ally of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
• Two HFC members recently floating to Chairman Scott Perry (R-Penn.) the idea of removing Greene and other members that don’t fully align with where the group stands, Politico first reported.
• Boebert and Greene have a history of feuding, with the two getting into a heated altercation in the women’s bathroom at the Capitol where Boebert told Greene “don’t be ugly” during the midst of the speaker battle.
THE BIG PICTURE: While the HFC has fractured on certain issues, it still has played a sizable role in strong-arming leadership into moving legislation to the right and prioritizing their goals by using procedural tactics.
• The group is expected to continue to have a strong influence on the House GOP’s agenda as it navigates a narrow majority for the remainder of the Congress.

They Are Coming For Your Coffee Now
KAREN TOWNSEND 6:40 PM on January 22, 2024
Swiss banker and World Economic Forum “agenda contributor”, Hubert Keller, is coming for your coffee. You know why. The climate agenda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It will never be enough with these people. Do you put milk in your coffee? That’s a whole different battle. Cows, you know, produce methane when they fart and that’s not good for the climate. Carbon dioxide is necessary for life. Green plants feed on carbon dioxide and produce oxygen as a by-product. Yet, climate activists want to take as much carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere as possible, thinking that atmospheric carbon dioxide traps heat. That causes man-made global warning, their reasoning goes. They want to limit emissions of carbon dioxide.
One way of limiting emissions is to go after agricultural production and practices. In this case, it is the production of coffee. Keller spoke out about coffee production as a culprit in climate warming. He should pick on something else. Farmers are responsible people who conserve the land and keep it healthy to produce crops. Coffee producers are the same. I was once in Hawaii and toured a coffee plantation in Kona. That was back in the 1990s and even then a big part of the message was that it was an environmentally-friendly operation.
This guy’s tweet leads me to think about Keller speaking to the arrogant elites who wish to rule the world. There is a lot of hypocrisy among them. One example is that they preach about the use of fossil fuels, yet many of them arrive in private jets for the annual gathering in Davos. Look no further than John Kerry for extreme hypocrisy. Biden’s climate envoy lives one way while expecting regular people to live a drastically different way. Eat bugs and live without electricity, peasants.
House Republicans introduced legislation to suspend funding for the World Economic Forum.
“No funds available to the Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, or any other department or agency may be used to provide funding for the World Economic Forum,” the bill simply reads. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Scott Perry, R-Penn., along with others, including Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., and Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Az. “The World Economic Forum doesn’t deserve one cent of American funding, and it’s past time we defund Davos,” Perry said in a press release. “The Defund Davos Act would ensure that U.S. tax dollars are not funding the World Economic Forum and their reset on our way of life. I thank Congressman Perry for leading this important effort,” Tiffany said.
Sounds good to me. The annual event is a bunch of reporters among the elites who get out whatever stories the rich and powerful want to get out. The virtue-signaling is off the charts. What does it all accomplish? Nothing as far as regular Americans can see. It sounds like a luxury vacation in Switzerland. Why are American taxpayers paying the way for John Kerry and many others to go?
The Heritage Foundation president accepted an invitation to speak in a panel discussion. I don’t think those in attendance enjoyed hearing what he had to say.
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts was offered a spot to participate in a panel discussing what to expect from a possible Republican presidency. He took the opportunity to criticize the WEF for supporting globalism and socialism and said that members of the next conservative presidential administration should reject all of the ideas being proposed at the WEF.
The world elites are dreading the thoughts of another Trump presidency. Maybe Mr. Keller is one of those people.
You aren’t getting my coffee, Hubert. Let’s talk about the champagne, ok?
The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, brought together 3,000 participants from around the globe. That included 1,600 business leaders, 350 heads of state and government ministers, and hundreds of academics, civil society leaders, and entrepreneurs. It was an elite affair as always, with sky-high lodging fees, champagne nightcaps, and chances to see and be seen by people holding some of the most influential jobs on the planet. A speech by Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a reminder of the world’s precariousness When we asked Paul Knopp, the CEO of KPMG US, what he came to Davos feeling most worried about, he echoed a common refrain heard in Davos this week. “Last year, for me, it would have been the economy. I’m a little more concerned right now about the number of geopolitical concerns around the world that could create shocks,” he said.
Surely the production of champagne must stop. Those grapes must help the coffee beans destroy the ozone, right? On a more serious note, the world is on fire and the elites have noticed. Too bad there isn’t a strong leader in the White House. There is concern about democracy, especially with so many regions holding elections oversea.
With elections this year in countries that are home to a combined 4.2 billion people, democratic leaders are worried about the threats of fascism, nationalism, disinformation, and other number of other risks for free societies. “We are now reaching a watershed moment: 2024 will be the year when European countries and the EU will be in a position to decide if we want to be sovereign or not,” French president Emmanuel Macron said, addressing just one region where elections are coming up soon.
When Trump primarily focuses on the United States, he is criticized for being an isolationist. You can bet that European leaders are nervous that Trump may be moving back into the White House. They are afraid of him and he intimidates them into such moves as paying their pledges to NATO and removing the U.S. from worthless international agreements like the Paris Climate Agreement.
The House Republicans may not be successful with their legislation, especially since many lawmakers make the trip to Davos, but it’s a good idea.
Progressives will not rest until they have removed every shred of joy from our lives.
