HEY!
are you new to fanfic? new to tumblr? or both?
well here is a mini guide for new fanfic readers on tumblr !!
first, like many other sites, the way you find fanfics is by going to the search, typing in 'character x' then finishing it with whatever you'd like, such as 'char x reader' 'char x char' and so on.
second, is looking at tags and warnings. tags are the words at the bottom of the post that signify what the post is mainly about, but be careful because a lot of people will put tags in their posts just for attention to the post, such as trending tags.
and warnings, a LOT of fanfic writers will put the warnings in the description of the fic, so at the top of the post. popular things that are in warnings that can be a bit confusing or be unknown to new readers are;
nsfw: this means that whatever in the fic, is either sexual, violent or down right diabolical so they much rather warn you than having to deal with upset readers
mdni: very commonly seen anywhere that is 18+ or 21+ is mdni, or minors do not interact, very similar to nsfw, this just means if you are under 18, this post is not for you, or this account is not for you
fem! and masc! or gn! reader: this is just declaring who this fic was intended for, whether it be afab or feminine people, (fem!), amab or masculine people (masc!), or for anyone and everyone (gn!)
OOC: this is just warning you that the character/s are not as shown in whatever media they are originally from, many instances are when someone has a different vision for a character so they write the character with such vision. OOC means, out of character.
warnings will usually have everything you need to know about the fic, and if the warnings don't, the tags will.
third, is masterlists. alright, so masterlists are just a writer's way of making their fics more accessible to the readers. most writers have multiple masterlists that correspond with the characters, fandoms, or genres they write for. masterlists can almost always be found on the writer's pinned post.
and lastly, LIKES AND REBLOGS.
likes and reblogs are very controversial for no reason. likes and reblogs are the easiest way for writers to know if someone is enjoying their fics. don't get me wrong, follows and comments are nice but reblogs, most importantly, get posts to be spread around.
so, now you've got a guide to help you through this hellhole we call Tumblr.

|This is the introduction post to my blog, where all my request and rules information is held in one place. As well as links to future master lists.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
— Warning! My blog is going to be dedicated to writing about darker versions of characters and my own little ideas. It is all fiction and stays fictional.
Requests; OPEN✓
Tumblr media
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Good- whenever you're reading this, you may call me DeadLaus, or C.C, if you prefer. My first language is not English, and I'd love for you to help point out any spelling or grammar mistakes whenever they appear in my works.
Also here's a bit of information regarding my blogs filtering of NSFW contents;
For sexual content, tags like this may be found underneath the post; (examples)
— Tw. (Insert fandom name)-(Insert sexual elements), Tw. (Insert sexual elements), or Tw. MDNI. 🔞, ECT.
Please keep this in mind, and if you do not enjoy reading sexual content or sexually charged content please filter these tags out using ↓
Lack of SW (sexual warnings), No holding hands, Pure post & ✅
⚠️ Warning!!: Those which feature these tags can still have any of the below, as all of my content is going to lean into darkfic territory!
For works that feature more darker themes without being inherently sexual, (I E, things like murder, coercion, gore, other things along this line), these tags can be found;
Tw. (Insert trigger warning), Tw. Cognito-hazard, 🛑, fake fluff, ECT.
And lastly, for content that doesn't have a specific fandom. You may filter it by using these tags;
Author blurbs, Yandere imagines, THIRST💦, (insert nonspecific descriptions), 🌊💌_, ECT.
-
Rules;
- I will not tolerate any sort of bullying for people who request. As going out of your way to read things that don't appeal to you is directly your own fault. Not mine.
- Anyone may request anything, except for any sort of (for example) half cat/half human, anything that has to do with scat or piss fetishes, pedophilia, or anything along the lines of that.
- Do not request for me to write outside of the fandoms I list.
- I only write for canon, so nothing like High school or College AU's. Not my thing, but on rare occasions if I'm interested enough I might write one like that.
- Keep in mind this is a DARK FIC blog, please do not request pure fluff, it defeats the point of a darkfic. However there can be fake fluff.
- Also please do not request multiple characters from multiple of the fandoms listed below, the most characters I'll do is with head cannons and "How ▧▧▧ is (insert characters)". But that's about it.
- Please be a little bit specific, though it's not required. It will automatically default as HC(head cannons) if not specific. Like- for example, scenarios or maybe one shot ideas. Or maybe with a specific reader type- like maybe an uninterested reader or something like that, I want to make works that you'd enjoy!
— I write for all types of darling's! Here's a short list to go off of!— Disabled(Mentally or physically)!Darling, Fem!Darling, Masc!Darling, Female/Male/Gn darling, Trans!Darling ECT.

I feel like it's really easy to slip into writing for/catering to fem readers, even if you write for gn readers, without realising sometimes . . . Can imagine it frustrates the hell out of readers. So, if you have time, could you give advice for writers on that bit? Stuff they shouldn't do or stuff they should do more of when writing fics so its inclusive to all? (Stuff to definitely avoid)
Totally understandable if you'd rather not answer this!
It definitely is easy to slip into writing female or male characters if that is what you mainly write. This is definitely a situation where theirs multiple different answers depending on who you ask. As someone who used to write majority female characters and then male their are some things you can do that can help.
The biggest give away and biggest no, no in my opinion; check your pronouns. CTRL+F is a great tool or if your on phone the 3 dots on the side where favorites are and it's called the find tool. I have misgendered nonbinary characters a lot by mistake, heck I've misgendered myself. To avoid accidently writing female or male characters that is the most important thing to edit out of the drafts.
Is a point people might argue on but feminine clothing like dresses and skirts. I know nonbinary/masc people can pull of dresses, my proof;
Tumblr media
The problem with dresses with reader x is for it to pull off in my opinion it has to match the character which is extremely hard to do with a by design open character like a reader. The character above is already thought of as a very 'gender is a social construct' character so him wearing a dress make sense. But I'd avoid using feminine clothes since it's hard to do right with nonbinary characters. (small note after the next point)
3. make up goes along with the point above. I don't think it's super girly and a lot of male and nonbinary characters wear make up but a lot also feel insecure about make up and hating it. The fact I know kids around 12 years old that steal fake eyelashes because of how expensive and expected it is for woman fashion- it's a whole issue but I'd treat it the same as dresses can do it with characters but would honestly suggest steering clear if it's a reader character.
With both dresses and make up having a note at the start can also do a lot of help. Since it tells people who aren't comfortable hey this is going to be in here because gender is a construct and nonbinary people look just as good in make up and dresses then men and women.
So I think the most important thing to do to learn is you won't please everyone. Just trying to write for a different gender male, female and nonbinary is great, and a good way to help learn is to read about them. Starting to write nonbinary readers from female readers can be a shift like from writing male characters to female characters. Not everyone gets it right away. But try your hardest and be open to constructive criticism and if you can read some gender neutral stories and take notes on how it's different and how it's similar. Since makeup isn't as forced upon them as with girls and can be discouraged in the case of men.
With that said nobody has the right to abuse you because you got it wrong it's just really annoying to go onto the x reader tag and see a fanfic being she/her or he/him the entire way down from start to finish.
TLDR; make sure you use they/them pronouns, be aware of feminine associated clothes and read gender neutral stories and posts if you can. Even if you mess up or make a mistake nobody deserves to be berated and abused but try and take the constructive criticism on the chin do your best. And if you want to add more feminine associated stuff a simple note at the start can go a long way. Even as simple as; 'Reader wears a dress in this because gender is fake'
With that said this is open for any readers/writers to add their own opinions to. Did I miss anything? or disagree with me? tell me I think having a conversation is more important than 'do it my way and only my way'

also honestly, girl at an all boys school has been such a common trope for YEARS like. i know not everyone is insane like i was and went through a gacha phase but the fandom was literally 1/5 built off a girl mc in an all boys school trope. obviously we were all kids when we made it so gacha mvs weren't the best for the portrayal of nuanced, gendered issues or specifically, proper handling of misogyny for the matter but like. the theme itself definitely not weird as bad as people think. yuu literally got their asscheeks yoinked to an alternate world them being a girl is the least of their concerns. if any thing, it can be more interesting to see how characters differently interact with yuu and come to build positive, intimate and meaningful relationships with her especially as guys who have had limited interactions with girls, so both yuu and the characters learn from each other putting aside the main character development in the storyline. adding onto the feeling of the divide yuu would feel at the beginning as someone who's both from another world and of another gender in nrc. these girl in an all boys school plots often end up as a harem story where the mcs are just a blank slate in the character drama. and i hate it cause most of the times it ends up perpetuating the notion that guys can never be friends with girls due to romantic or sexual interest electing the girls as either someone to possess in a relationship or someone not suited to them at all, just generally being misogynistic pricks, or actually being a decent friend to a girl is humiliating and a sign of inferiority. or girls just aren't as interesting. my best friend is the lesbian to my gay twink and building relationships with people fundamentally different than you can be so, so beautiful and fulfilling. i love seeing girls and guys just being HOMIES!!! seeing fem yuu's learn and stumble and grow with the nrc and just. overall people drawing and writing their yuu's with their favorite character is like fuck, speak your truth man. to be honest i was mainly speaking about the inexperienced first years but just any character. malleus, lilia, vil, etc etc. let's go yuu nation
tdlr its a really intriguing dynamic and allows for a lot of possibilities a fan could think of. masc yuu's are great, gn yuu's are great, fem yuu's are great. some twsties need to LET OTHER twsties just enjoy their whimsical thoughts.
YES YES YES YES EXACTLY AGREEING WITH ALL OF THIS!!!! having a girl in an all boys school or a boy in an all girls school has been a trope for years, and sure sometimes it is used for uh. fanservice. but when it is properly explored it can be a really interesting trope!
i saw someone say once (before yuuka came out) that there shouldn't be an official fem yuu because then the studio would HAVE to canonize a yuu ship which is soooooo. firstly why would having a fem mc mean that you have to ship them with someone, and secondly what about the studio implies that they would ever do that, and thirdly what an ass backwards misogynistic take, and fourthly you have to understand that f/m and f/f ships are not lesser than m/m. please LKAHSDFLKASDHFLKH the lengths people go to to justify not liking fem yuus. i laugh but it sucks going in the twst tags sometimes because people are so mean its depressing.
nyeah i feel like fandom is a bit like. too romance focused. people can do whatever the hell they want forever ofc! i like shipping also! i am known to enjoy an reader insert fic! i buy romance novels and play otomes all the time ajksldfhlakshdfasldhf but it sucks when its all that there is yknow. i love pushing dolls faces together to make them kiss but sometimes i would also like to play something else.
i also wish there was less disdain towards different yuus. like man we're all stuck in disney anime boy hell can't you guys suffer with dignity like the rest of us instead of being mean. we should all hold hands and imagine our favorite characters together.
