Mueller gets a lot of hype, but I don’t think she gets enough tbh. Her control, her choices, the raw power she keeps just perfectly restrained. She’s awesome

RWRB Musical Ramble Part 2: References/Parallels
More on this brain rot because I’m losing my mind over it
I thought of moments and scenes from the movie (because if we’re gonna adapt this into a musical, we’re gonna need to use the movie more than the book just because of the limitation of theatre) that sort of draw parallels to songs and moments from musicals I know:
Their initial feud and quips from the opening scenes remind me of “What is this Feeling” from Wicked, which in the musical, is literally the start of Glinda and Elphaba’s enemies-to-friends arc. Plus this part would be so funny with Henry:
Yes, there's been some confusion
For you see, my room-mate is
Unusually and exceedingly peculiar
And altogether quite impossible to describe
Blonde
Matthew literally posted this parallel on his Instagram story a few days ago: The get low moment in the movie is so similar to the dance in West Side Story, so imagine an upbeat fun party song where everyone is dancing and suddenly it’s just the two of them staring at each other while their motif plays
Tumblr media
The Red Room/ First Hook Up/ Polo scene fits perfectly with Bad Idea from Waitress, I mean Alex initially calls them a beautiful mistake in the books, and just look at the lyrics:
Heart, keep racing
Let's make mistakes
Let us say, "So what?"
And make worse what was already pretty bad
This secret is safe
No reason to throw it away when there's love to be had
Hold me tight as I tell myself that you might make sense
And make good what has been just so bad
Let's see this through
It's a pretty good bad idea
Me and you
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus in the actual show, the reprise is literally just the three couples having very enthusiastic sex, and again, lyrics:
Hearts keep racing
There’s no mistaking
We can’t come back from this
Good, ’cause I want more of what I had
It feels so good to…
Feels so good…
To be bad
To be bad
Take this bad idea and walk this wire
Throw your spark into oil and fire
Chance won’t come every single day
So don’t throw it away
Don’t throw it away
We might burn but we might get saved
I don’t feel much fire at all these days
Feels so good to
Feels so good to be
Bad
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Emails can be done like “Take a Break” from Hamilton, where Angelica and Hamilton, or Alex and Henry are on different, opposite parts of the stage, left and right, or like in Hamilton, Alex working on the campaign on the base stage, while Henry’s on the balcony, taking turns singing their letters/emails out, we could even add the cute signatures from the book every time they finish their own verse, and the chorus could be a harmony sang together about how much they miss each other, plus Hamilton and Angelica are literally in America and London respectively and Take a Break has this line:
And there you are an ocean away
Do you have to live an ocean away?
Thoughts of you subside
Then I get another letter
And I cannot put the notion away
Tumblr media
I thought of the Waterloo Letters paralleling the Reynolds Pamphlet from Hamilton, but on second thought although they’re both about “affairs”, the Firstprince one is a genuinely loving and monogamous relationship unlike the extra-marital sexual affair Hamilton had, and in Hamilton, we see it from other people’s perspective like Jefferson, Maddison, Philip and Angelica, but in RWRB both the book and movie show us the reaction of Henry and Alex, the two people directly involved. Plus in terms of emotions, Reynold Pamphlet feels damning on Hamilton, while the Waterloo Letters feel heart-breaking on Henry and Alex. But the staging of letters flying around and everyone reading it like crazy would translate pretty well
Tumblr media
That’s all I can think of for now but this was really fun!!! I’ll definitely write again when I think of more
Finding GiFs and formatting for this was so exhausting and took me more time and writing the actual post, I'll add the rest later when I figure out where tf the gifs I want are and how to format this properly

Thanks for the tag game summons @fireandgrimstone the original post was getting suuuper long, so I thought I'd just post it myself! (Also do you know how hard my username was to do for this??? It took me like an hour just to find Q and X songs ;w;)
Rules: pick a song for each letter of your url and tag that many people.
Q - Quidditch, Third Year by John Williams, from the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban soundtrack (look, ok, it was REALLY hard to find a song that started with Q)
U - Umbrella Beach by Owl City
A - All I Ask Of You from The Phantom of the Opera
R - Rider's Lullaby by Jessie Mueller, from the Centaurworld soundtrack
K - KICK BACK by Kenshi Yonezu, Chainsaw Man OP
L - Lothlorien (feat. "Lament for Gandalf) by Howard Shore and Elizabeth Fraser, from The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack
Y - Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy
N - New Divide by Linkin Park
X - Xanadu by Rush... I guess
So I now have to tag 9 people according to tradition:
@i-love-u-loser @apetitefae @sinfulsagev @venidlara @raspbrrytea @voltfruits @enigma-the-anomaly @the-gayest-sky-kid @fantabulisticity
No pressure to do it if you don't want to, but just know that when I thought of Tumblr folks I was fond of, I thought of you uwu

3, 5 (sorry I love pain), 20 😇, 25, 29, 30
3. three songs you were recently obsessed with
I'll Be (Celine Dion)
Our Song (P!nk)
Queen of Me (Shania Twain)
5. three songs you wish you could forget (because listening to them hurts)
Fix You (Coldplay) why must every show use this to kill off characters. It hurts. Especially Mel from Packed to the Rafters.
Running Up That Hill (Placebo) The OC.
Moving Oleta (Reba McEntire) it just breaks my heart.
for the record, I love these songs so I don't actually wanna forget them.
20. three songs that remind you of the person who sends this one
is it cheating if I use songs you recommended to me?
You Matter to Me (Sara Bareilles)
You Learn to Live Without (Idina Menzel)
Beautiful (Jessie Mueller)
25. three favourite songs of 2017
How Does a Moment Last Forever (Celine Dion)
Back to God (Reba McEntire)
What About Us (P!nk)
29. three songs that influenced you most (some songs change or save lives)
My Heart Will Go On (Celine Dion) my one and only memory of Titanic is seeing Celine singing this at the end of the VHS. I was SO TINY. And then, also, in grade school, our music teacher wanted us to do this song, and she picked me for the main part of it. It changed something in me. I performed it a million times in my childhood.
You Needed Me (Anne Murray & Shania Twain) I love Anne's duets album so much. It's this version of the song specifically that hits me right in the heart. I love these two women and it really is such a comfort. It also makes me think of my aunt.
If I Had Only Known (Reba McEntire) I mean, it speaks for itself. But to put it simply, grief never does go away. It informs every decision I make, every breath that I take. It's the not knowing, on top of the loss. Please tell the people you love that you love them while you can.
30. three songs you really want your followers to know (for reasons other than all those above)
Mariska Hargitay (Preston Hull) it's just... lmao iconic
As If (Sara Evans) the music video is so fun
You're Gonna Be (Reba McEntire) it's just a beautiful song. I love mother/child relationships dearly, and this song just wraps it up so beautifully.

any good obscure musical recs?? ive listened to like almost 400 musicals and i need some new ones
oh boy, oh boy, oh boy *rubbing hands together* i'm so glad you asked
my number 1 go-to rec is always "waitress" cause it's gotta be my favorite; it's my comfort musical, i know it's a little more mainstream but i've met a lot of people who just weren't interested enough to watch it, so if you fit into that category pLEASE DO
i think i'd also have to recommend "avenue q"; it's fucking funny, the whole show is done with puppets and the dude who wrote it purposefully hired people who had worked either on sesame street or the muppets, only on this show they're swearing up and down, talking about porn, racism and whatnot; gold mine.
i also love "35mm-a musical exhibition;" dude wrote a musical that makes you feel like you're walking down an photography exhibition and each song tells the story to a different picture. i've actually got a side blog ( @35mm-a-musical-exhibition ) with the pictures to each song cause they're so frickin hard to find??? i was like, why hasn't anyone just dug deep to find the pictures and compiled them all into one place yet?? meh, somebody's gotta do it so it might as well be me (that was a "spies are forever" reference if you didn't get; another great rec; it's a tin can brothers musical, that's made up of some starkid members, including joey richter)
i'm also a really big fan of "lizzie the musical;" i actually made a post hyping it up a while back; it's a rock horror lesbian musical. need i say any more?
now, this isn't really a new musical rec, cause since you said you've listened to almost 400 musicals i'm pretty sure you've heard of "into the woods," bUT lately i've been obssessed with the central park run they did and i'll talk about it for hours to anyone who gives me the chance. they did this shakespeare in the park kind of thing? in which the show is actually put on in the middle of the woods. the lady who plays the witch? my favorite witch up to date; donna murphy was actually the same person who voiced mother gothel in "tangled," which is basically the same role, right? further proving my point that she was born for this part. its so much creepier than any other production, not only because of visual elements but some details they added into some of the characters' representations and detail on the actual story. i do have to warn you tho, that they did not take the wolf's song to little red as a "subtle" reference to being a sexual predator, it's actually pretty explicit, so watch out if you've got any SA triggers. some other details include that amy adams (yes, giselle from "enchanted") plays the baker's wife, jessie mueller (yes, jenna from "waitress") plays cinderella and chip zien (yes, the baker from the original 1987 production of "into the woods") plays the mysterious man. it's so good. please watch it.

a late submission for this. but top 5 songs your fave musical theatre artist that isn't Idina (so i guess your second fave?, lol) has sung! (doesn't have to be original cast recordings, just any that they've ever covered!) (if you put links if they're covers and idk them I'll go listen to them!)
fjkdaj;fa okay I just... have to straight up ignore the "5 songs" part because I need to shout about her and I don't do it nearly enough so JESSIE MUELLER my beloved side note as I do this idk why I thought this would be even a little easy
"You've Got a Friend"
This performance of "Beautiful" (specifically because I swear you can hear her smile when she sings "people gonna treat you better")
"Both Sides Now" (she sang this at my concert and I remember being so bitter bc they were like "someone on Facebook suggested this" and I was like y'all I literally suggested that on Instagram you're not special fkjdka;fj)
"Always/Goodnight" with Abby Mueller (when she starts and I cry. what then.)
"Door Number Three" from the ART run (baby look around) (I know she struggled with this song but I still love it)
"She Used to Be Mine" from the ART run (idk i really love this version)
also the rehearsal video
"People" from Funny Girl
"My Brother Lived in San Francisco"
"Rainbow" with Alison Luff (this is EVERYTHING to me)
This performance of "A Soft Place to Land" (GOOD GOD 😭)
"Mister Snow" (she is SO FUCKING CUTE it hurts fdjaj;fj also I know someone did a mashup of her singing a duet by herself since she's played both Julie and Carrie but idk where it is lol)
anyway when I tell you i'm crying about her fjda;jfa;d
send me an albums or artists and I’ll tell you my top 5 songs! 💙

edelweiss: how’d you think of your url/username? jasmine: do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
orchid: what’s a song you consider to be perfect? cactus: something you’re currently learning (about)?
:) <3
Thank you for the ask!!!!
Edelweiss: How'd you think of your url/username? A: It's kind of silly. I wanted a more succinct username than the one I'd been using, so I was trying to do some word association, or just slapping words together to see what I liked. Deer are some of my favourite animals, so that's where Fawn came from (could not for the life of me tell the difference between 'fawn' and 'faun' so I just went with the former). And then I found the word 'joculatrix' (which, if the internet is to be believed, is the female form of the word jester/joculator) and was like "man that slaps" so I threw them together and boom!!! Fawnatrix was born. I also go by Fawn or Fawnie (<- nickname reserved for friends and beloved mutuals) cause they're cute and I like them ^-^
Jasmine: Do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again? A: Oh god. If I'm being completely honest with myself, it's the Harry Potter franchise. I grew up loving it so much; my dad was also super into it and got me into it as a kid. But I'm not some kind of pussy who clings to their childhood memories of a book franchise when 1) upon closer inspection said books are rife with racism/antisemitism/homophobia/etc (not gonna go into it all here cause so, so many people have explained it all better than I ever could. Shaun on YouTube has a great video encompassing a lot of the issues with the franchise here) and 2) the author is an active, vitriolic transphobe, who uses the money from said franchise to hurt people in your own community; your little guy (that's me!) is non-binary. I'll never read or support the Harry Potter franchise again because I know better, and also because the author despises me and my people personally.
On a lighter note. Orchid: What's a song you consider to be perfect? A: This is so tough because I love so many songs. They are all so beloved to me. Never Love an Anchor by The Crane Wives, Sunlight by Hozier, The Night We Met by Lord Huron, Liquid Smooth by Mitski, Poplar Street by Glass Animals, She Used to Be Mine from the musical Waitress, sung by Jessie Mueller..... my heart says to put every ABBA song down but I will restrain myself and pick one, which is Does Your Mother Know. I'm sorry I'm very indecisive.
Cactus: Something you're currently learning (about)? A: Not a whole lot, at them moment, ehehe. I've been embroidering a bit more, and I'm always eager to learn more about that. But aside from that, not a whole lot :)
Thanks again for the ask!!! I really appreciate it <3 I'm sorry my answers were so long ehehe :)

will we be relitigating all the tonys from where you are currently to now because i would like to hear people’s thoughts on 2014
Thanks for asking, Anon. I've been choosing various years to rehash based on how many tournament Divas are involved, how close the races may have been, and my own preference towards shows and performances. I have most of the upcoming polls already queued up and I will be out of the country on a business trip all next week, so apologies if I don't get to making a poll for the 2014 Tonys.
But if you want to hear my thoughts, 2014 was the Lady Day year, and Audra McDonald became a record-breaking Tony winner in multiple ways. The most performance Tonys won, one of just a few to be nominated in all four categories across career, and the only one to win. Amazing, showstopping, a performance for the ages--possible category fraud, but she's Audra, so justifiable, I guess. And my, oh my, was the competition incredible that year. May run a poll without Audra just to see what happens. Cherry Jones, Estelle Parsons, LaTonya Richardson Jackson, Tyne Daly. What a list.
As for the musical races: Lena Hall was an obvious winner for Featured, no matter how much I adore Linda Emond (and the other). As for Best Actress, good for Jessie Mueller, justice for Kelli O'Hara, my downer opinion on two of the five Divas nominated has been well-documented, so let's leave it there.
Everyone, tell us in the notes/reblogs what your 2014 Tony opinions are. My biggest opinion is that Bullets Over Broadway might have flopped hard (and having listened to it...yikes), but Marin Mazzie was everything and deserved better.

Okay, so Vocal Coaches are amazing. They give you personalized advice for singing based on your own voice and it’s great.
However, if you can’t get a vocal coach, it’s possible to learn through observation. This gets a bit tricky since it’s very easy to fall into mimicking other people’s voices, which isn’t healthy/sustainable for most singing purposes. Ideally, you want to mimic the technique, not the voice. Now, a good thing to do when you want to learn new techniques is to find singers who have voices similar to yours and see what they do.
If they have a similar voice to yours, the vocal maneuvers that are healthy for them have a better chance of translating over to you.
You can track them to find more fun songs to sing.
When looking for these singers, match your voice types, vocal timbres, and preferred music genre.
Voice types are: Soprano (High Female), Mezzo Soprano (Middle Female), Alto (Low Female), Tenor (High Male), Baritone (Middle Male), Bass (Low Male)
Some things that describe vocal timbres are: “Bright” (Sounds higher, more youthful. Think 1937 Snow White for high female voices, 1997 Anastasia for lower female voices. The closer it sounds to Spongebob or a Wicked Witch, the brighter it is), “Warm” or “Dark” (Sounds like it has depth, a little more mature. Think 1959 Sleeping Beauty for soprano voices, 1950 Cinderella for Mezzo or Alto Voices. The closer it sounds to a Femme Fatale character or to Patrick Warburton, the darker it is), and there are more but I don’t know the technical terms. If a voice type is a range, then a timbre is the way a voice sounds within that range.
I haven’t heard a song that wasn’t from a musical since 2016, so all my examples of singers are broadway or movie musical stars. I have blind spots. You can find more people using your ears, a recording of your own singing, and a radio/music streaming service.
Soprano or Mezzo - Bright: Laura Osnes (Bandstand, Bonnie & Clyde, 2013 Cinderella), Lauren Worsham (Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), Lisa O’Hare (Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, Candide, Descendants, and so much more), Kristin Stokes (Percy Jackson Musical), Kara Lindsay (Newsies, also Wicked), Caroline Innerbichler (Frozen Tour), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Movie Last Five Years, Movie Into the Woods, etc.), Sutton Foster (Little Women, Shrek the Musical, Anything Goes, Drowsy Chaperone, etc.), Liz Callaway (Film Anastasia, Lion King II, etc.), Jessica Vosk (Wicked, Dreamland, more than that), Annaleigh Ashford (Legally Blonde, Sweeney Todd Revival, Wicked, etc), Jessie Mueller (Six, Beautiful the Carole King musical, definitely more), Laura Bell Bundy (Legally Blonde, probably more than that), Sherie Renee Scott (Broadway Last Five Years, definitely more)
