If we get Zoltan, Percival and Regis in S4E1, does that mean we'll have Fen Carn and THE MOONSHINE almost right at the start of the new season? The actors seem to have a lot of fun with the script!
Maybe the episode will end with the Nilfgaardian attack on the refugee camp and Geralt being knocked out as a cliffhanger? And E2 will have Cahir rescue Milva and join the hansa without the ⚰️ and confrontation because Geralt has seen that he's not such a bad guy on Thanedd, plus Jaskier might go: "Hey, that's Yennefer's shaggy-beard friend from Oxenfurt, remember, Geralt, I told you about him, the one she had a bath with?" 😂

A theory about "The Ride of The Witcher"
Netflix and Sony music have released the latest Joey Batey song for The Witcher Season 3. The song is to be sung by Jaskier (Joey Batey) and was a collaboration between Joey Batey, Joseph Trapanese (composer), and Percival Schuttenbach (Polish composers and band who did the music for The Witcher 3 video game).
Joey Batey is the front man for his own band that he had before he was ever cast as Jaskier. The band is known as Amazing Devil. And my personal favorite song of theirs is The Horror and the Wild. Anyway, the song was released early and it is probably the most elaborate Jaskier song to date in regard to production values. Only four other Jaskier songs have this much quality. Toss a Coin to your Witcher, Burn Butcher Burn, The Golden One and Song of the Seven. Song of the Seven didn't do quite as well as Netflix hoped. Before I proceed with my theory let me state here and now I cannot speak or read Polish. I barely know that Jaskier translates to Buttercup (though Dandelion is used in the English language video games and novels). I had to find a rough translation of the Polish chanting part of Ride of The Witcher on Tumblr. I would like to thank @spoonietimelordy for the Polish portion.
Now on with my theory. All of the bigger Jaskier songs tell a story. Toss a Coin to your Witcher tells an exaggerated account of Geralt and Jaskier's meeting with the exiled Elven King. Burn Butcher Burn is Jaskier venting his heartbreak at Geralt leaving him on the side of a mountain. Golden One tells the story of the golden dragon encounter from episode six of season one of The Witcher. And Song of the Seven was inspired by the events of The Witcher: Blood Origin. The Ride of The Witcher is no different. We are told a story.
Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride For the child of Destiny. Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride. Bring the storm that sets her free. Sleepless under frozen suns, Treachery and chosen ones. Rise anew, the time has come. To take hold of the skies.
Once betrayed, but not again. Steel restored onto his name. With silver coursing through his veins, And vengeance in his eyes! Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride For the child of Destiny Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride. Bring the storm that sets her free. Twisted lies and sorcery Make no match for Destiny. You won’t rest till worlds collide. So stake your claim and choose a side!
Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride For the child of Destiny. Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride. Bring the storm that sets her free.
(Now with Polish vocals in the background)
Humans more monsters than creatures. Witcher more human than them. Butcher, White Wolf, or a saviour. The Witcher returns in the end!
(The Polish background chanting)
Z ukrytego lasu
Przez góry i ciemność
ruszysz znów
Przez ogień i wodę
Nic cię nie zatrzyma
Dzikość bestii w tobie tkwi
(In Polish repeating)
Szumią lasy, lasy szumią
Szumią lasy, szumią
Szumią lasy, lasy szumią
Szumią lasy, szumią
(Jaskier calls out)
Come on!
(Polish chanting chorus repeating)
Szumią lasy, lasy szumią
Szumią lasy, szumią
Szumią lasy, lasy szumią
Szumią lasy, szumią  (Polish translated:
From the hidden forest Through mountains and darkness You will move again. Through fire and water Nothing will stop you. The wildness of the beast is within you. The forests are humming! The forests are humming! The forests are humming! They are humming! The forests are humming! The forests are humming! The forests are humming! They are humming!
Jaskier:
Oooooh! Oooooh!
(in Polish background:)
Jego córka
Więc rusza wiedźmin *(Special note here. This is the first time we actually see the original polish word for "Witcher." "Wiedźmin" is the original title of the book series in the original Polish.) (Translation: His daughter! So The Witcher sets off!
Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that moves the trees. Ride, Witcher, ride For the child of Destiny. Ride, Witcher, ride With the wind that howls. It howls for thee! Oh, ride, Witcher, ride. Don’t fear that wind. It howls for thee! Don’t fear that wind, it howls for thee! It howls for thee! _____________________________ There are a few special things to note. This song is different from other Jaskier songs. For starters it is the only one to have Polish lyrics even if they're just sung in a background chorus / chant. It's also the first time we hear the original Polish word for Witcher.
The song is also co-written by Percival Schuttenbach, who did The Witcher video game songs. This is their first time writing music for The Witcher Netflix series. And I sincerely doubt they would have hired the original Polish composers just for a typical Jaskier tavern bard song.
No. Something is definitely different here. And it's not just because it has a Heavy Metal-esque Polish chorus and chant. Some fans have speculated that Jaskier will perform this in a tavern but I don't think so.
Now please hear me out. This might be a bit controversial but I always felt The Witcher Netflix series was a bit like a strange cross between Xena: Warrior Princess (for some of the character dynamics and the way the show uses Polish and central to Eastern European folklore the way Xena used Greek and some others), Buffy The Vampire Slayer (for the chosen one aspect and the found family), and a little bit of Highlander: The series (mostly because at least two of the main characters are not aging, the great music, and the sword fights). And this song made me think of something. It actually made me think of the resurrection spell in Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 6 that raised Buffy from the dead, tearing her out of Heaven so that she could again be the hero of the people. ("Here lies the warrior of the people! Let her cross over!") I don't think this is just a Jaskier song. For starters up until this point the "Common" language of The Continent has been English (though in the novels it's probably Polish). So what race is using the Polish language? Is it the Dryads? Is it some Ancient Elvish language? What is the Polish language to this universe since it doesn't sound like the common language of the show? Who is chanting during Jaskier's song? Can you really imagine the Power metal chanting during one of Jaskier's tavern performances? Perhaps. They do look like rock concerts sometimes. Especially in season 2. But instead of "You have been the most beautiful audience. If anyone needs me I'll be at the bar." Instead we have an intense "Come on!" like Jaskier is trying to do something, trying to accomplish something. This is not merely a song. It feels like a spell. Yes, he IS telling the story of The Witcher. The Child of Destiny is Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. And "Once betrayed" is probably in regard to Yennefer last season unless Jaskier accidentally betrays him this season because of his new lover's evil inclinations. (Cough.) "You will move again" doesn't seem like a normal lyric. And "The forest is humming." Humming is often a sound described for strong and intense magical energy. I'm not saying that Jaskier is a latent sorcerer but perhaps he's beseeching someone to cast a spell or helping with a spell. And doesn't "Ride, Witcher, ride" sound an awful lot like "Rise, Witcher, rise"? "The Witcher Returns in The End!" And think about the ending of the song. "Don't fear that wind, it howls for thee!" "Thee" isn't a normal lyric for Jaskier. His lyrics are usually very modern sounding compared to the usual language of the characters in the show. And why would Geralt have to fear the wind howling? "Wind howling" is a sly video game reference or... sounds one might hear when being called back to the land of the living.
I think Geralt might get killed and magick will be needed to bring him back. I think Jaskier's new song is a combo anthem and resurrection spell. Maybe they intensify a scene of the Dryads healing Geralt from the novels. There, There's my possibly VERY wrong theory about "The Ride of The Witcher."

I hate this man. I'm really trying to be negative here and all. And all of sudden this man and Percival. Not some commercialised but full Percival with polish back vocals. And as Percival have one of the most amazing vocalists ever Joey proves how amazing he is here.
Also that is some meta shit for me. When i'm doing stuff for uni I listen to The Amazing Devil and cry because of the mental breakdown or to Witcher 3 soundtrack. Now it's all in one place... I this the witcherverse is calling me....

Witcher, Metal Version
Ever since I stumbled across Orion's Reign I was wondering which metal bands or artists have made songs about The Witcher. By which I mean game and books, so you will not find Dan Vasc's (really good!) version of "Toss a coin" on this list. There are, however, some bands or artists that made metal versions of soundtrack pieces, and some of those are listed here, too. A good source to bands with Witcher themes is this reddit post, btw! Without further ado, here it goes: Metal Witcher songs! (And if you have additions, reblog this post with them, please!)
youtube
BG's "Blood of the Elves" is the latest I know of dealing with Witcher themes. It is, of course, about Ciri. Also Blind Guardian are - I'm sorry I'm saying this so often - one of my top fav bands, so they are the first on this list :)
youtube
Yes, "Elder Blood" by Orion's Reign is dealing with the same topic. Dan Vasc is the singer here ;) I simply love his voice, and the song is epic!
youtube
Vader must have been one of the first, if not THE first, metal bands to cover a Witcher theme. Rightfully so, they are polish... "Sword of the Witcher" is about the first game.
What else can you expect from a band named "Kaer Morhen" than epic songs? This is, according to the "Encyclopedia Metallum", an instrumental duo, so this is basically symphonic metal (or, as they call the genre, "Epic Symphonic Metal", ok). This song covers the game theme for Kaer Morhen and enhances it in an awesome way!
youtube
Skar has a couple of Witcher metal covers. This is "The Wolven Storm". Check out this guy, he has awesome songs!
youtube
Miracle of Sound is another really, really cool project with many songs inspired by video games. There are a couple of Witcher songs, this one's the "Wake The White Wolf - Metal Version" (it takes a bit to get "metal" but it's really neat!).
youtube
"Wild Hunt" by German band Oversense is a sadly widely unknown song with a very nice melody and lyrics about Geralt. Their song "White Wolf" is also really nice!
youtube
Can you imagine me finding out there's this band "Hekseblad" with a couple of Witcher songs, including "The White Flame?" Yeah, sadly it's Trash metal, which I don't really like... but thanks folks, now I know there is an Emhyr song. Wow.
youtube
We can NOT, of course, miss out Percival Schuttenbach, which is also known as just Percival, but does a bit of different music with both projects. Percival Schuttenbach, however, is considered "Folk Metal".
youtube
Midgard is a Ukrainian metal band, this is "The Witcher". Whenever you hear them sing two similar words in a row, it's "Белый волк", meaning "White Wolf".
I really like Elvenking (check out "Black Roses For The Wicked One!") and I was thrilled to find they have a song about the Wild Hunt!
If you're hooked now, but not that much into metal - no prob, there's a lot of witcher inspired folk music out there. Check your favorite streaming service for Myrkur's cover of "Lullaby of Woe", and definitely look for Gingertail's epic covers, especially "The Wolven Storm". There are also a LOT of "Toss a Coin" covers, if that is your thing, I'd suggest to start with Dan Vasc but also look into the really good guitar version by  Luca Stricagnoli.
Here's my list with more Witcher songs, non-metal!
More Metal songs, Eastern edition!

Hello! For the "send a character" ask, could I request my favouritest guy Percival Schuttenbach? Or Lydia van Bredevoort, whichever you are more inclined towards :0
Tumblr media
percival
send me a character and i will tell you my:
first impression
didn't care at first. you see from this long post that that changed
impression now
i find him utterly relatable... his excitement about metallurgy is just so special to me... and this bit, when he's too obsessed with admiring the technology that it doesn't register to him that he's being offered a drink for recreation, rather than being asked a question about how something works:
‘Moonshine,’ Zoltan corrected him gently. ‘And what moonshine! Try some, Percival.’ ‘But I’m not an expert in organic chemistry,’ the gnome answered absentmindedly, examining the details of the alchemical furnace’s construction. ‘It’s doubtful I would be familiar with the ingredients…’
favorite moment
it's a tie... my first-favorite moment is when percival and zoltan are showing sihill to geralt, and percival just keeps getting so excited about the technology behind the blade:
‘(...) my sihil’s blade was forged from a refined alloy containing graphite and borax…’ ‘It’s a modern technique!’ Percival burst out, a little excited, since the conversation was moving inevitably towards his field of expertise. ‘The blade’s construction and composition, numerous laminates in its soft core, edged with hard–not soft–steel…’ ‘Take it easy,’ the dwarf said, reining him in. ‘You won’t make a metallurgist out of him, Schuttenbach, so don’t bore him with details.
my second-favorite moment is when they're all freaking out about the alleged witch-girl allegedly cooking her cat in a stew, and percival points out that the cat is sitting right there... and he specifically points out the cat, using his own vocabulary:
‘It’s a shame about that cat,’ Percival Schuttenbach suddenly said in a loud voice. ‘It was a fine beast, sleek and fat. Fur shining like anthracite, eyes like two chrysoberyls, long whiskers, and a tail as thick as a mechanical’s tool! Everything you could want in a cat. He must have caught plenty of mice!’ The peasants fell silent. ‘And how would you know, Master Gnome?’ someone asked. ‘How do you know what the cat looked like?’ Percival Schuttenbach cleared his nose and wiped his fingers on a trouser leg. ‘Because he’s sitting over there on a cart. Right behind you.’ The peasants all turned around at once, muttering as they observed the cat sitting on a pile of bundles. The cat, meanwhile, utterly unconcerned about being the centre of attention, stuck a hind leg up in the air and got down to licking his rump.
idea for a story
i want to know about him and the grail... that was a fun joke from sapkowski, pointing out his namesake, but i want to know about this...
‘A cup…’ Percival Schuttenbach jabbered. ‘A goblet, I mean… Carved from a single piece of milk opal… This big. I found it on the summit of Montsalvat. Its rim was set with jasper and the base was of gold. A sheer marvel…’ ‘Don’t give him any more spirits,’ Zoltan Chivay said. ‘Hold on, hold on,’ Dandelion said, becoming interested, also slurring his words somewhat. ‘What happened to that legendary goblet?’ ‘I exchanged it for a mule. I needed a mule, in order to transport a load… Corundum and crystalline carbon. I had… Err… Lots of it… Hic… A load, I mean, a heavy load, couldn’t have moved it without a mule… Why the hell did I need that goblet?’
unpopular opinion
it's easier to avoid antisemitic caricatures when drawing gnomes than people think... though this is a complaint i've had for-just-about-ever, that artists need to be more aware of racial/ethnic caricatures so they don't replicate them in their work
another unpopular opinion maybe since i've seen no one's opinion on this yet, but i hate his voice in the chrzest ognia audiodrama, oh my lord...
favorite relationship
asides from his friendship with zoltan, i think his potential friendship with regis would be really fun. my intense special interest-having guysss... my mule-owning guys... nerds <3
another favorite moment, between them:
At the sight of the stove Percival Schuttenbach first stared goggle-eyed, then gaped, and finally sighed and leapt up in the air. ‘Ho, ho, ho!’ he called, unable to conceal his delight. ‘What do I see? That’s an absolutely authentic athanor coupled to an alembic! Equipped with a rectifying column and a copper condenser! A beautiful apparatus! Did you build it yourself, master barber-surgeon?’ ‘Indeed,’ Emiel Regis admitted modestly. ‘My work involves producing elixirs, so I have to distil (...)’
favorite headcanon
ern's design for him is the bestest and most supreme in my opinion
---
lydia
send me a character and i will tell you my:
first impression
also didn't care at first. and you see again from this long post that that also changed
impression now
i already wrote a little bit on how lydia and rience are the "as above, so below" between vilgefortz's reveal as antagonist, but:
i think lydia's relationship with vilgefortz and the way he treated her was the first sign, actually a bigger sign than more 'obvious' things like his repeated phrases, research of the elder blood, and attempted tracking of yennefer..., the first and biggest sign that vilgefortz was a bad, bad person.
his way of treating lydia is to use her as a tool, an assistant who will serve him blindly and literally not say a word against him. in other words, total control.
‘Have you ever wondered what happened when Bekker forced the water to gush from the rock? It’s generally put very simply: Bekker tamed the Power. He forced the element to be obedient. He subdued nature; controlled it . . . What is your relationship to women, Geralt?’ ‘I beg your pardon?’ Lydia van Bredevoort turned with a whisper of silk and froze in anticipation. Geralt saw she was holding a wrapped-up painting under one arm. He had no idea where the picture had come from, since Lydia had been empty-handed a moment before. The amulet around his neck vibrated faintly. Vilgefortz smiled. ‘I enquired,’ he repeated, ‘as to your views concerning the relationship between men and women.’ ‘Regarding what respect of that relationship?’ ‘Can obedience, in your opinion, be forced upon women? I’m talking about real women, of course, not just the female of the species. Can a real woman be controlled? Overcome? Made to surrender to your will? And if so, how? Answer me.’
the way it is introduced all makes sense, then:
Everyone knew that Lydia van Bredevoort was in love with Vilgefortz of Roggeveen, that she had loved him for years with a silent, relentless and stubborn love. The wizard, it is to be understood, also knew about this but pretended not to. Lydia made it easier for him by never betraying her feelings to him – she never took the slightest step or made the slightest gesture, transmitted no sign by thought and, even if she could speak, would never have said a word. She was too proud. Vilgefortz, too, did nothing because he did not love Lydia. He could, of course, simply have have made her his lover, tied her to him even more strongly and, who knows, maybe even made her happy. There were those who advised him to do so. But Vilgefortz did not. He was too proud and too much a man of principle. The situation, therefore, was hopeless but stable, and this patently satisfied them both.
vilgefortz knew she was too proud to ever say anything, so he used her love for him to control her.
favorite moment
we don't see it happen, but the attack and then suicide she commits to buy time for vilgefortz is the most tragic thing...
‘How did it happen, Radcliffe?’ asked Triss, withdrawing her hand from the gilded haft of the dagger which was embedded beneath Lydia’s sternum. ‘How could it have happened? This was supposed to be bloodless!’ ‘She attacked us,’ muttered the sorcerer and lowered his head. ‘She attacked us as Vilgefortz was being escorted out. There was a scuffle . . . I have no idea . . . It’s her own dagger.’
idea for a story
the way she lost her face...
Four years ago, on Vilgefortz’s – her master’s – recommendation, Lydia had taken part in experiments concerning the properties of an artefact found amongst the excavations of an ancient necropolis. The artefact turned out to be cursed. It activated only once. Of the five wizards taking part in the experiment, three died on the spot. The fourth lost his eyes, both hands and went mad. Lydia escaped with burns, a mangled jaw and a mutation of the larynx and throat (...)
i'd like to explore how vilgefortz manipulated her while she was recovering, espousing (manufactured?) grief and regret, enough to keep her feeling that he cares for her...
unpopular opinion
sometimes characters are just devices to show something about another character. this is the case with lydia and vilgefortz.
favorite relationship
tissaia and lydia's friendship...
Lydia van Bredevoort, delicately conjuring up a tiny flame between her thumb and index finger, lit the candles in the candelabras. Tissaia saw traces of oil paint on her hand. She filed it in her memory so later, after supper, she could ask the young enchantress to show her her latest work. Lydia was a talented artist.
favorite headcanon
lydia was intelligent enough to guess what vilgefortz had planned. she knew, in the back of her mind, how wicked he was, she had figured it out. but was too loyal to him to reveal anything.

Percival Schuttenbach
Chest: Agility, keen senses, and a flair for card games weren't the only talents of Percival, and by far the most prominent. The gnome was, above all, an excellent metallurgist and jeweller, and established his first factory in the free city of Novigrad. Having bought a parrot from Zoltan—Field Marshal Duda—he made it a living advertisement, by teaching the bird to call out: "Brrrilliants, brrrrilliants!" And it worked! The gnome had a multitude of customers—his hands were full, and his purse was heavy with coin. With the boom in business, Schuttenbach opened another jewellery branch in Vizima, and the future of his entrepreneurial expansion seemed very bright indeed. Unfortunately, times changed, and not for the better... In 1271, Percival left Novigrad due to racial persecution and moved his factory to Mount Carbon, the capital of Mahakam.
Scroll 1: Though he belonged to Zoltan's dwarven company, Percival Schuttenbach was not a dwarf. Instead of a bushy beard, he had a long, pointed nose that reliably marked the wearer's belonging to the old and noble race of gnomes.
Scroll 2: Percival, giving way to the dwarves in height and strength, was equal to them in endurance. In agility, he was far superior. When he marched with the company, he was always wandering around, rummaging through the bushes, forcing himself forward and disappearing. The gnome would then suddenly reappear, and with nervous gestures, he would signal from a distance that everything was fine—you could go on safely. In other words: Percival was the scout of the team.
Scroll 3: When the gnome and his dwarven companions paused to rest, they would sit by the cart and play Gwent. It was their undisputed favourite card game, to which they devoted every free moment, even on wet evenings. The gameplay was usually loud and violent, with each player having a thick stick close to hand...
Scroll 4: The sticks were rarely used to clobber, but were often waved around threateningly, for some had the bad habit of cheating during Gwent. Percival was one such offender, as he would exchange suggestive blinks with his buddies and hide extra cards here and there. There were times, however, when his beardless face betrayed his deceitful expressions. Once outed as a swindler, he would promptly face a barrage of curses and insults—and stick blows.

Ok so TIL that a Polish rock band read The Witcher and said "this autistic af gnome with a special interests in machines and minerals is who we vibe with, we're naming our band after him"
And then they helped create the third game's soundtrack
