Tips for Hiring Personal Trainers in Henderson, NV
Embarking on a fitness journey can be both exhilarating and daunting, especially when navigating it alone. That's where personal trainers come in. In Henderson, NV, a city known for its active lifestyle and wellness culture, finding the right personal trainer can make all the difference in achieving your fitness goals. Whether you're aiming to lose weight, build muscle, improve flexibility, or enhance overall health and well-being, a qualified personal trainer can provide guidance, motivation, and accountability every step of the way. Here are some essential tips to consider when hiring personal trainers in Henderson, NV:
Tumblr media
Qualifications and Certifications
Before committing to personal trainers in Henderson NV, ensure they have the necessary qualifications and certifications from reputable fitness organizations. Look for certifications such as NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), or NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association). These certifications indicate that the trainer has undergone rigorous training and education to provide safe and effective fitness instruction.
Experience and Specialization
Consider the trainer's experience and specialization in working with clients with similar goals, fitness levels, or health conditions as yours. Whether you're a beginner, an athlete, a senior, or someone with specific fitness needs or limitations, choosing a trainer with relevant experience can ensure personalized guidance and effective results. Inquire about their track record, success stories, and client testimonials to gauge their expertise and credibility.
Personal Compatibility
The relationship between a client and their personal trainer is built on trust, communication, and mutual respect. Schedule an initial consultation or trial session to assess your compatibility with the trainer. Pay attention to their communication style, personality, and coaching approach to ensure it aligns with your preferences and comfort level. A positive and supportive trainer-client dynamic can enhance motivation, adherence, and overall satisfaction with the training experience.
Goal Alignment
Clearly define your fitness goals and expectations upfront, and ensure they align with the trainer's philosophy, methodology, and approach. Whether you're aiming to lose weight, gain muscle, improve cardiovascular fitness, or enhance athletic performance, communicate your goals explicitly to the trainer. A skilled personal trainer will tailor a customized workout plan and progression strategy to help you achieve your desired outcomes effectively and efficiently.
Availability and Schedule
Consider the trainer's availability and schedule compatibility with yours when making your decision. Determine whether they offer flexible scheduling options, including early morning, evening, or weekend sessions, to accommodate your busy lifestyle and commitments. Additionally, inquire about their availability for ongoing support, check-ins, and progress tracking outside of scheduled training sessions to ensure continuous guidance and accountability.
Facility and Equipment
Evaluate the training facility or gym where the trainer operates to ensure it meets your preferences and requirements. Consider factors such as cleanliness, equipment availability, ambiance, and accessibility when selecting a training environment. If you prefer outdoor training or home workouts, discuss these options with the trainer to ensure they can accommodate your preferences and provide personalized training solutions accordingly.
Cost and Value
While cost is an important consideration, prioritize value and quality when choosing a personal trainer. Compare pricing structures, package options, and payment plans offered by different trainers, keeping in mind that expertise, experience, and personalized attention come at a premium. Assess the overall value proposition, including the trainer's qualifications, track record, services offered, and additional perks or benefits, to determine the best investment for your fitness journey.
Trial Sessions and Feedback
Take advantage of trial sessions or introductory offers provided by personal trainers to experience their coaching style and training methodology firsthand. Use these sessions to assess the trainer's professionalism, expertise, and ability to motivate and challenge you effectively. Provide honest feedback and communicate any concerns or preferences to ensure a collaborative and productive training partnership moving forward.
Progress Tracking and Evaluation
A reputable personal trainer will incorporate progress tracking and evaluation mechanisms into your training program to monitor your results and adjust your plan accordingly. Inquire about their approach to tracking key performance indicators, such as body measurements, strength gains, endurance improvements, and adherence to nutritional guidelines. Regular progress assessments and goal reassessment sessions will help you stay on track and make informed adjustments to your fitness plan as needed.
Commitment to Continued Learning
Choose a personal trainer who demonstrates a commitment to continued learning, professional development, and staying abreast of the latest fitness trends and research. Inquire about their participation in workshops, seminars, certifications, or advanced training programs to ensure they are equipped with the latest knowledge and techniques to support your fitness journey effectively. A trainer who invests in their own education and growth is more likely to deliver innovative and evidence-based training solutions tailored to your needs.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hiring a personal trainer in Henderson, NV, from Vitality Fitness is a significant investment in your health, fitness, and overall well-being. By considering these essential tips and factors when selecting a personal trainer, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your goals, preferences, and lifestyle. Whether you're seeking accountability, motivation, or expert guidance, a qualified personal trainer can empower you to unleash your full potential and achieve transformative results on your fitness journey.

Trent Alexander-Arnold x reader
Word count: 1.7k
Summary: Trent isn't very good at keeping your relationship a secret, especially not around his noisy teammates.
Warnings: Just fluff and a small hint of angst but not really
Notes: Trent is literally my favorite person to write for x
Tumblr media
The training was finally done and all Trent wanted to do now was go home and snuggle up to you. He was tired and wet, the cloudy day not lifting his mood in any way.
He threw his phone down on the bench not caring that it went past his bag before going to the showers.
He was the quickest getting ready, throwing his clothes down and drying off his hair before lacing his shoes, ready to go when Henderson stopped him.
"Hey, don't forget your ph-" he cut himself off as the screen lit up "Hey who is this?" he questioned, turning the phone up to study it for real. Andy who was next to Henderson leaned over to look for himself while Trent stood frozen.
"Hey let me see" Virgil cut in, and soon everybody was passing the phone around, everyone staring at Trent who looked around the room, his tongue poking out from the side.
"Wait, is that-is that y/n?!" Virgil exclaimed as he got the phone again, studying it really close causing Henderson and Ox to throw themselves over the phone again to study the picture closer "It is! Trent you have some explaining to do!" Henderson called.
"Okay, fuck just give me my phone back you idiots" Trent groaned, snatching it back and turning it off. Closing the picture he had as a background. He had just switched it yesterday, the picture taken of the two of you at Trent's parents house last weekend, you were sitting on the couch together, smiling at each other as he is kissing your temple. He loved that photo and thought it was a cute background but now he remembered why he had a simple background before, you kept your relationship low-key.
Trent threw the phone down in the bag, wanting to leave but there was no reason to even try with the way everyone looked at him.
Everybody knew who you were as you were friends with many of the team, you knew Klopp and was therefore often watching training and matches. Sometimes assisting the trainers out and just being around.
That was how you'd met Trent. After a late training he had stayed a bit longer on the pitch where you had been, the two of you had begun talking and then he'd driven you home with the promise of meeting you again. He had kept his promise and after that you'd met up frequently, slowly fallen in love with the right-back defender.
After you became official you decided to keep it on the low, both for media and for everyone in the team, just wanting to be you for a little while.
"Explain!" Virgil demanded, sitting relaxed on the bench, legs wide spread and a small smirk on his face.
"Well.. we're dating okay!" Trent explained, groaning at the collective gasps from his teammates "Since when! And why haven't you told us?!"
"Since two months back and because we decided not to, at least not yet"
"You've hid your relationship for two months, what!" Ox close to gasped which made Trent groan out a chuckle "Come on guys, it's no big deal, we wanted to keep it easy and not pressure it before we knew anything for real"
"Man, you've gotta take her to guys night soon" Ox grinned, cutting the tension slightly "Yeah yeah, maybe, anyway can I go now?" he asked sarcastically making the guys boo at him "Sure" Robby grinned, Trent rolled his eyes annoyed by them and their stupid grins.
"Have you fucked her yet?" "Are you married?" "Do you have secret kids?"
"Shut up and don't talk about her like that" Trent grunted before exiting the changing room feeling even more bitter than before.
Tumblr media
You were laying on the couch when Trent entered the apartment. You had been working from home, sorting all types of documents and numbers for your boss and now you were just finishing up in front of the tv.
"Hey love" you grinned as you saw his face in the door opening. "Hey" he muttered back, making you frown as he flopped down on the couch, face in your lap
"Hey, what's wrong" you asked softly, scratching his neck gently. "The boys found out about the two of us" he muttered after a second, not wanting to meet your eyes "What" you huffed, making him look up at you with a worried look.
"They saw my phone-background and put one and one together, everybody knows" You sat quite for a little while, processing the news but you didn't notice it made Trent anxious as he waited for you to say something, anything.
"Are you mad?" he said lowly meeting your eyes carefully "What, no no no, I were just-...thinking about what we will do, who we will be open to and if we should become official" you hummed, slowly threading your fingers through his hair to reassure him it was fine.
You were not mad, not at all. You both knew you wouldn't be able to keep it hidden forever and it was never really about hiding it either but more about being just you, getting to know each other and your relationship. But now multiple months had passed and you knew him and your relationship well by now and it felt like your relationship could survive the publicity.
Plus it was only his teammates, the guys you knew well and were sure they wouldn't tell it to the media. It was actually pretty nice that they knew so you would no longer have to hide and sneak around them with your relationship.
"Do you want to become official?" Trent asked, his eyes holding a little shocked glance. "I don't know" you hummed sweetly, kissing his forehead. "I think it would be possible to go official" you thought out loud "What do you mean?" "Like, the reason why we kept it to us where because we wanted to be sure and do it in our time but now I guess or relationship is strong enough to hold that kinda thing and we've already figured us out and I don't think it would destroy us as it could've before." Trent hummed, nodding a little "that's true but do you want that? Do you want to deal with all the media?" his voice was cold and almost dismissive, like what you said was stupid.
You frowned slightly, retreating your hands from his head which made him react, looking at you with an equal frown.
"Do you not want to be official with me?" you asked, slightly offended and hurt.
When he didn't answer you scoffed, pushing his head from you and standing up, ignoring his call of your name as you walked to the kitchen, roughly taking out a coffee mug from the cupboard.
"Babe" Trent sighed, wrapping his arms around your waist but you shrugged him off, really annoyed. "Babe I didn't mean it like that don't be sour" he pleaded but you already where. Pouring up the coffee you'd made earlier and slamming it into the microwave.
"I just.. I've just been thinking" he said carefully, not wanting to upset you anymore. "What" you barked "what the fuck have you been thinking off"
"I just.. can we please just sit down and talk about this" he sighed
"Sure" you huffed, taking out your cup and walking back into the living room, sitting down in the love-seat this time.
Trent sighed, knowing he had talked to fast.
He squatted down in front of you, not liking the annoyed look you had. "I didn't mean it like that"
"I-I guess- I'm just scared to be official" he finally spit. "I really love what we have and I don't want that to be messed up. I think you're right that we could survive it but I can't even think about it not working out. What if all the publicity makes you want to back out or if it causes trouble for us. I couldn't stand it" he sighed out, making your tense body soften and relax.
"It's not that I don't want to be official with you it's just that I don't want to loose you, I don't wanna loose what we have. I feel fine with the boys and all but I'm scared of social media"
He sighed out the words like it had been a hard burden for a long time making you feel slightly bad. Your hand made it's way to his face again, stroking his chin before you lean down to kiss him, sweetly and lovingly.
"I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions and I get what you mean" you said softly, loving the small sweet smile that tilted the corner of his mouth upwards.
"I'm sorry too, I didn't word it correctly and it came out wrong"
You nodded smiling at him before beginning your pondering again.
"I get what you mean, I do but we really only have one choice now and that's either we go out with our relationship publicly by ourself or we wait until we are exposed"
You said the words easily, simply just stating facts and Trent knew that you would never pressure him, it was the reality of things right now.
"You're right" he sighed, resting his forehead against your thigh. "What do you think?"
You bent down and dragged him up from the floor, settling in the couch instead so you could both sit.
"I don't know" you hummed
"Me neither" Trent sighed, drawing you into his side.
"What if we just let it be for a second, process it and keep it on the low, adjust to be us in front of the boys and then we will talk about it in a couple of weeks?"
Trent didn't answer, he just took a hold of your chin and kissed you needily. "I love that idea and I love you"
You giggled against his lips before letting them melt together again. "Then that's what we do"

Royal Guard AU (wip)
There's a Royal AU for TwiYor week @twiyorbase, and I've had this wip for quite some time now, and I don't know when I'll finish it.
So, please accept this humble 'will be chapter 1 of someday will be finished fic'
Inspired by the amazing @mochidoodle Royal Guard AU art. (not at all part of their AU).
Summary:
Prince Loid Forger of Westalis loves to go undercover and blend with his people to gain information. To ensure his safety during his late-night shenanigans, Westalis' General of Royal Knights assigns him a personal bodyguard. Unbeknownst to them, this personal bodyguard also has her own personal mission.
(AO3)
----------------------------------------
"Your Highness. This is Ms. Yor Roseate. She is to be assigned as your personal bodyguard starting today."
Prince Loid Forger raises his brows as he looks up from the thick tomes in front of him. "And why do you think I need a personal bodyguard, Ms. Sherwood?"
The red-haired General of the Royal Knights' brow furrows. "I think you know full well of the reason."
Loid looks directly at her eyes. "I'm afraid I do not. Please enlighten me?"
Instead of backing down, the older woman hardens her looks. "Do you really want me to spell it to you?"
He sighs in defeat.
He should've known better than to challenge their Royal Knights General, who is also his personal trainer and has been with him since they were young.
Of course, the woman would know his nighttime shenanigans. And even though he had tried his best to cover his most recent injury (he was so sure he had done it secretly), those things do not escape Sylvia's observation.
"You won't tell Father, will you?"
The red-haired woman smirks. "Are you questioning my diplomatic ability?"
He chuckles, "No. Of course not." And then he mutters, "I still value my life after all."
"What was that?"
"Nothing!!" He stands up and comes closer. "So, any special reason for assigning Ms. Roseate as my personal bodyguard? Why don't you yourself be one?"
He saw the general gesture at the stiff woman beside her. "She might be the newest recruit, but she happens to be the strongest and most talented."
"Newest recruit?"
"Mhmm. But I highly suggest you not underestimate her, lest you want to taste her wrath."
Loid doesn't like the smug face of his martial arts mentor.
There must be a hidden agenda that Sylvia is scheming.
He plans to uncover that along the way.
The man then focuses on the dark-haired woman that stand in perfect stance ever since she is introduced.
Dark long hair, red eyes, and a lean figure.
What interests him most is her unique lean rapier-like swords that rest at her hip.
Double swords? Interesting….
"Well then. It's a pleasure meeting you, Ms. Roseate."
"The honor is mine, Your Highness." He sees her bow.
Mmm… very polite. Let's see how long until she asks to be replaced.
"And I trust you'll be on your best behavior, Your Highness? Please do not underestimate the 'recent' rumors."
Darn it! Loid is sure that he has suppressed the smirk.
"Of course, Ms. Sherwood. You can count on me for that."
The look that Sylvia gives him tells that she doesn't believe every single word that he says.
Loid just smiles politely.
She knows me too well.
.
It is the first day that Yor is officially on duty as crowned Prince Loid Forger Henderson's personal bodyguard.
And she feels nervous.
No, she doesn't think that her skills are under-standard.
She has passed General Sherwood's tests with flying colors.
It's the responsibility that unnerves her.
If something bad happens to His Highness, then aside from that her head will be on the line, it will soil her reputation.
And her mission.
She simply cannot allow that to happen.
So, she makes sure to stay close to His Highness and observe her surroundings thoroughly.
The day's tasks are part of Prince Loid's daily routines as crowned prince. He goes around villages, listening to the farmers' problems and giving advice to solve them and also taking notes for things the palace has to intervene to make sure they have a good harvest in upcoming months.
In other places, he monitors the progress of their new harbor, designed to make sure their fish products can be packed and distributed to wider areas, one of the most promising export commodities of Westalis.
On the way, he always returns the greetings of his subjects.
Yor often hear about the humbleness of the Prince of Westalis. But to witness said act by her very own eyes is certainly a different experience.
Seeing how the people of Westalia clearly love the Prince, and how he reciprocates each one of greetings is a bit overwhelming for her.
There's a certain pang of alien emotion bubbling in her chest.
When was the last time I felt envious of other people?
She squashes the feeling by refocusing on her task.
The amount of people gathering so close to him can mean danger.
What if someone with bad intentions was among these people and was waiting for a chance to harm the Prince?
So she better do her job properly and observe every small movement of the people, the environment, and every possible place for any surprise attack.
Thankfully, no incident occurred that day until they returned to the palace.
.
Arriving back at the palace, Loid then sits in his room and starts to read, and sign paperwork.
All the time, his newly assigned personal bodyguard sticks to his side, like what a usual bodyguard does.
However, Loid's keen observation noticed how Ms. Roseate many times look tense and glaring at his surroundings.
And she is still doing it now. He muses.
"Are you always this stiff, Ms. Roseate?"
He raises his brow when he sees her start.
She immediately bows "Apologies, Your Highness."
Loid chuckles and waves his hand. "Relax, will you? This is the last of my tasks for the day by the way. You are dismissed."
Yor blinks and answers, "I am sorry Your Highness. Ms. Sherwood assigned me to be at your side 24/7."
Loid's eyebrows arch, "24/7? Must you stay by my side even when I'm doing my business at the loo?"
Face immediately flushes, he hears Yor stammers, "O-Of course I'll be waiting outside, Sir…. I mean, Your Highness."
Loid guffaws. "That would be unnecessary. Sylvia can be too paranoid sometimes. But rest assured. Nothing bad will happen inside the palace. You may rest."
He gives her his best reassuring smile which always manages to convince everyone.
It looks like she is included.
He sees her fidgeting for a moment before finally Yor bows and retreats from his room.
Loid smirks triumphantly.
It is time to leave this confined palace and continue his nighttime routine.
.
After applying the fake mustache and goatee, clad in his cloak, Loid, or now known as Twilight, sneaks out of the palace through a secret passage.
The first place he always visits is The Frizz Tavern.
The place may be reeking of tobacco smells and alcohol, but people always gather there and so are information and rumors.
Today is no different.
He comes in and takes his seat at the corner of the bar. Right beside a curly-haired man, who once again is seen trying to woo the waiter and failing.
Slapping his shoulder, Twilight greets him. "Yo, Frankie. Still trying?"
The shorter man grumbles, "Shut it! If only you would share one or two of your persona with me, you stingy bastard!"
"It's not right to pursue women through deception, Frankie."
"You're one to talk!" Frankie grumbles, "Who is she?"
Twilight raises one eyebrow, "Who's what?"
Frankie places his chin in his palm and points past Twilight, "Her of course, who else?"
Puzzled, Twilight twirls on his chair and almost jumps from it in surprise.
"Good evening." The calm and soft voice of Yor Roseate greets him.
Thankfully she is wearing a massive cloak that covers her from head to toe, hiding her royal guard uniform, and a mask that hides half of her face.
But that doesn't answer his question, so he whispers, "What are you doing, here?!"
"I'm following my order from Ms. She-...."
Twilight immediately clamps her mouth and whispers, "No no no! Not here!"
Frankie peeks from his shoulder and says, " So you do know her. Is she another of your-..."
Twilight doesn't let him finish as he abruptly grabs Yor's wrist and briskly walks out from the tavern's back door.
After making sure that they are alone, Twilight starts his questions, "How do you know where to find me?"
"I'm following Your Highness."
Following him? From the palace? But he didn't feel anyone's presence.
He presses on, "Nobody should know I left the palace."
"I've been following you since you left the room."
Twilight blinks, "But I went through…." He abruptly stops himself lest he blurts his secret.
"That passage is indeed very cleverly built, as expected from Your Highness. But as Ms. Sherwood said it is-...."
He lifts his hand to stop her, "Wait wait….. Sylvia knows about that??!!"
The woman in front of him shrugs, "It's not that hard to find."
Twilight faces faults.
And suddenly Sylvia's warning rings in his mind: do not underestimate her.
.
.
.
Several weeks prior
“You are to go on a solo mission in a faraway place. I wish you to keep up your impeccable performance and not put shame on our country.”
Yor bows her head deeply. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Go. And make our country proud.”
Once again Yor bows her head and turns to leave the majestic throne room.
“Oh, and Yor…”
She stops and turns to face the King of Ostania.
She notices how His Majesty’s face softens a fraction as he whispers, “Please be careful.”
Yor smiles. “I will… Father.”
She then continues to pack her belongings and immediately departs to the kingdom of the West.

open to - women plot: based. muse: deandre henderson (25-27), fitness trainer. two children with his ex-girlfriend/high school sweetheart from before he started dating your muse. he's got boyish charms but still lacks maturity in certain situations; more than likely the breakup was due to his infidelity but can be anything.
Tumblr media
"I know I'm the last person you wanna see right now, but I kinda got a big favor to ask." DeAndre doesn't even greet her with a 'hello', cutting straight to the chase before she has the opportunity to dismiss him. He'd come to the one place he knew she would be this afternoon: her workplace. At least, she couldn't kick him out of here. That was his thought process anyway. "You know how my Granny's been sick, right?" He continues, as his grandmother had been diagnosed with cancer before they'd even broken up. "She's stopping treatment and she wants to have the whole family together one last time, and you know how much she and the rest of my family love you and I know she'd want you there." He pauses long enough to sheepishly rub the back of his neck. He hadn't even dropped the bomb yet, and he was about to. It felt like ripping off a band-aid. "And I might've not told them we broke up yet..."

5 September 1985 - Freddie’s Legendary ‘Black and White Drag Ball’  at Old Mrs Henderson’s Club in Munich.  He celebrated his 39th birthday with a bang!It all started with a beyond flamboyant throw-down in Munich, Germany where Freddie Mercury and a few hundred of his famous friends gathered together for Mercury’s “black and white” themed 39th birthday at the Henderson club. The Henderson was also used by Mercury to shoot the video for his 1985 solo single “Living on My Own” which includes footage shot at Freddie’s extravagant birthday shebang. Two months prior, Queen and Mercury set the world on fire with their set at Live Aid forever setting the rock and roll bar for greatness at a level so high it will likely forever stand as the single greatest live performance by a rock band ever. Freddie spared no expense and he flew out a few hundred guests and fellow celebrities, paying for flights and rooms at the Hilton hotel.  When Freddie sent out the invitations, he requested attendees dress in drag and only in black and white.Freddie, of course, was the only person who did not adhere to the strict dress code.
He came as himself, in his iconic Harlequin catsuit and Adidas trainers, paired with a flashy Russian Imperial jacket designed by the Emanuels.Yes, the same folks who had designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress. As unhinged as Mercury’s behavior could be behind-the-scenes there isn’t much evidence to cite his zealous pursuit of good times altering his ability to slay with his four-octave vocal range and commanding stage presence. To say nothing of the stone cold fact, Mercury knew how to party—something I’m sure you’ll be in agreement with after checking out the photos of Freddie partying like a pro. It was the party to end all parties. The following excerpt is from Richard Young:“Well I just found Freddie very generous, very kind and very lovely.  He was a one-off rock icon — irreplaceable!  He was the king of parties! His parties were always wild, full of laughter and unique.”“His confidence was electric.  His energy was inspiring, and he was one of the most professional people I’ve ever worked with.”“When you were in Freddie’s inner circle you would always be given a nickname, mine was “Muriel” — after Muriel Young. This was after the TV presenter from the fifties, and Freddie would always say, ‘Come on Muriel!’ I loved it. I felt I was part of his family.”Richard on Freddie’s famous 39th Drag Ball Birthday Party:“It was one of the most amazing moments that happened with Freddie. He rang me around 1985.  He said, “Richard, I want you to come to Munich; I want you to photograph my birthday party.” I said, “No problem, Freddie!” He said, “Everyone’s going to be in drag.” I said, “No problem!” And then he said it again: “Everybody.” Which included me. My wife had to find me a dress, it was a size 10, which was quite a nice feeling. I went off to Munich, we all got made up, and had a wild party that went through the whole night.” Richard Young - Hero Magazine One of Queen and Freddie’s official photographer since 1978

Player: Jordan Henderson Words: 1831 Requested: Anon Warnings: Fluff, mentions of pregnancy and miscarriage A/N: Hope you like it lovely! Thank you for requesting this prompt 😊 I decided to go for Jordan, the idea I had made more sense for him

------------
Jordan heard his wife talk to their daughter in hushed tones. The 3-year-old had been excited for Halloween for weeks, asking every night before bed “how many sleeps dada?”. He smiled and put the cottage pie in the oven, ready to heat up when they got home after the festivities at the AXA. Jordan rinsed the knife and cutting board and dried off his hands, turning around when he heard the unmistakable pitter-patter of their toddler running into the kitchen.
“Okay baby, tell dada,” his wife whispered. Jordan leaned against the kitchen counter, a smile on his face. She looked adorable in her Halloween costume. Their daughter looked up at him, big blue eyes twinkling.
“I’m the Greek Scouser!” she cheered, arms up in the air. Sophie was obsessed with one of Jordan’s teammates, she absolutely adored the Greek left back –much to the amusement of the rest of the team. So when Jordan and Emma had asked Sophie what she wanted to be for Halloween, the little girl immediately said ‘uncle Kos’, and wouldn’t let anyone change her mind. In fact, she had even decided who Jordan should dress as.
“I think my heart just might explode,” Emma said, taking in her daughter’s joy. She had even managed to pull Sophie’s curly brown hair back into a matching miniature bun. Her own hair was pulled back in a ponytail and her and Jordan were wearing the training staff tracksuits. Sophie had been adamant that daddy should be Klopp so she decided to dress as a female version of Pep. It was by far the comfiest Halloween costume she’d ever worn, especially now. Luckily the tracksuit bottoms had functioning pockets so she could hide her hands away. She just didn’t know how to tell Jordan, not after last time.
“Tsimi is going to love this,” Jordan said, running a hand through his beard, pulling Emma from her thoughts. They had spent an hour dying it so he’d look the part and it had turned out better than either of them had expected.
“Alright Soph, let's put your coat on so we can go outside. You can take it off when we’re at the party,” she said, ushering the little girl into the hallway.
For once they stood out in the crowd. Everybody at the AXA had gotten the memo to dress up. Most of the children were dressed as their favourite characters, there were a handful of princesses and a couple of Fireman Sams. Emma even spotted some great Paw Patrol costumes. Jordan was wearing a pair of fake glasses and a baseball cap that looked similar enough to Klopp’s along with the official tracksuit including the initials on both jacket and bottoms. She wore a matching set, but her initials were changed to PL. Emma made a mental note to thank the kitmen for hooking them up with their outfits. Sophie was dressed in the homekit with Tsimikas 21 across the back of her jersey, and a pair of red tights underneath the shorts to keep her warm. She’d even found a pair of official LFC socks in Sophie’s size and the girl already owned a pair of Nike trainers. Suffice to say, the little girl looked ready to play football.
“Shall we go find uncle Kos?” Emma asked Sophie as she took the toddler by the hand before she could run off again. Jordan chuckled and followed them. He worried for his daughter’s heart if Kostas ever left Liverpool. As they made their way through the crowd, they could hear people aww at Sophie and laugh when they spotted them.
“Uncle Kos!” Sophie shouted as she spotted her favourite person, breaking free from her mother’s hand. Kostas interrupted his conversation with Diogo, James and Andy, and dropped to his knees, holding his arms open. Sophie ran into them and laughed when Kostas rose to stand. All four Liverpool players started laughing when they spotted Jordan.
“Oh, that’s amazing. Has Klopp seen yet?” James said.
“No, but I don’t think it’ll take long for him to spot us.”
“Sophie has been practising all day on her best Kostas Tsimikas impression,” Emma said, “can you tell uncle Kos?”
Sophie nodded her head and shouted in her unmistakable Scouse accent: “I’m the Greek Scouser!”
Kostas laughed and cheered for her.
“Careful Kos, you’ve got competition!” Andy said with his trademark grin.
“She even has the Tsimikas bun!” Diogo said, laughing.
“It’s all or nothing for this girl,” Jordan said, looking lovingly at his daughter.
They all turned around when they heard Jurgen’s unmistakable laugh.
“I see our new signing got here!” Klopp said when he joined them. He then moved his eyes to take in Jordan and Emma’s costumes and started laughing again.
“It’s like looking in the mirror. Pep! You need to see this!” he shouted over his shoulder.
“Sophie wouldn’t take no for an answer. Daddy had to dress up as Klopp,” Emma explained. Klopp laughed again. He himself was dressed in lederhosen, playing into the German stereotype.
“I see we can take tomorrow off,” Pep said with a grin when he joined them. Emma shrugged.
“I can teach them all about stretches and how the muscles work, but I’m useless at running drills,” she said. The men laughed at that.
“Hey, maybe that’s just what they need,” Jordan said with a grin.
“Ready to get all the candy Soph?” Kostas asked the little girl. She turned to look at her parents.
“You can go with uncle Kos if you want baby,” Emma said, “Mummy and daddy will be right here, okay?” Sophie nodded. Kostas took the tote bag Emma had brought for her and carried her to the first person handing out sweets.
“Our baby’s all grown up,” Emma said with a pout. Jordan chuckled and pulled her against his side, wrapping an arm around her. Emma looked up at him.
“I’m not ready for her to grow up Jord,” she said.
“I know, neither am I. Guess we’ll just have to accept it.”
Emma sighed and nodded. Jordan smiled and gave her a quick kiss.
“Okay, now that’s just wrong,” Andy said, shuddering, “Klopp kissing a female Pep. Thanks for the nightmares.” Jordan and Emma laughed, watching Andy go to find his own children.
“It is a little weird,” Emma said, “the grey beard does evoke more Klopp and less Hendo.”
Jordan chuckled. “I’ll rinse it out when we get home.”
“Good, I prefer to share my bed with Hendo.”
“Glad to hear that,” Jordan said, kissing her again. Emma smiled into the kiss, resting a hand against his cheek.
“I need to tell you something… I was planning on a big surprise but I can’t wait any longer,” Emma said after she broke their kiss. She suddenly felt nervous, her heart hammering against her chest. Emma hadn’t planned on keeping this a secret for as long as she had, but seeing as her last pregnancy ended with a miscarriage at 8 weeks, she had wanted to wait a little longer before telling him. And with Jordan’s away fixtures on top of  all the travelling for the Champions League and her work schedule, there had hardly been any time for the two of them to spend together.
“Emma? What’s wrong?” Jordan asked, worry evident in his voice.
“Nothing’s wrong. I-.. Everything’s really good, actually. Remember what we talked about when we came to visit in Switzerland?” Sophie had spent a day being spoiled rotten by his teammates while they got to spend some much needed time together as husband and wife. After they had spent the entire day in bed, they had talked about what their future would look like. A tiny spark of hope fluttered in his chest as he looked at her, nodding.
“Uhm, well, turns out we scored in Switzerland,” Emma said cryptically, fiddling with the cuff of her jacket.
“Are you-... Really?” Jordan whispered, eyes wide. Emma nodded, eyes brimming with tears.
“I’m almost 15 weeks,” she whispered back. Jordan let out a relieved laugh, hugging her to his chest.
“You have no idea how happy that makes me. Another little baby,” Jordan said, a lump in his throat.
“Soph is going to be the best big sister.” Jordan smiled and brushed her tears away with his thumbs.
“Dada! Dada, look!” Sophie called from halfway across the room. Jordan and Emma turned to look at her. Kostas had moved her to on top of his shoulder, her tote bag in his hand.
“Did uncle Kos get you all the best sweets?” Jordan said when they were in front of them. Sophie nodded enthusiastically. “I got so many sweeties dada! Even ma-teasers! Uncle Kos carried them all!”
Sophie’s joy was infectious and all the adults chuckled.
“Good thing uncle Kos is very strong, baby,” Emma said.
“I strong too!” Sophie said, not at all impressed that her mum would discredit her strength.
Emma chuckled. “I know you are, baby. Alright, say goodbye to uncle Kos. The party’s over and we need to go home.” Kostas lifted her off his shoulders and gave her to Jordan, handing the tote to Emma.
“Bu-bye uncle Kos! Will you come play soon? I got a goal from Nanna for my birthday!”
Kostas smiled. “How about I ask Thiago to come with Isa and Leo and we have a competition?”
“Yes!” Sophie said, “can we mummy? Pwease?”
Emma pretended to think for a moment. “Alright then,” she said, feigning giving in to their plans. Sophie cheered, arms stretched above her head. Jordan smiled lovingly at his daughter. He couldn’t wait to see her as a big sister. He said his goodbyes to his teammates and friends, and carried Sophie outside to the car.
Sophie was fast asleep, the excitement of the Halloween party having worn her out. Jordan had managed to get the grey hair dye out of his beard. He had changed the jacket for one of his old sweaters, but was still wearing the tracksuit bottoms. Emma had changed into a pair of pyjama bottoms and a long sleeve top.
They had settled in on the couch. She had put a record on, neither of them feeling up to watching anything. Instead they just snuggled under a blanket, both with a hot drink.
“May I?” Jordan asked. Emma nodded, instantly knowing what he meant. He smiled that loving smile that always made her heart skip a beat, and scooted down so his head was resting in her lap. He gently put a hand on the slight swell of her stomach, rubbing it slowly with his thumb.
“Hi baby, I’m your daddy. I know you can’t hear me yet, but we love you so much already,” he murmured against the fabric of her shirt. Emma swallowed back her tears, resting a hand on top of his. She couldn’t wait to see him holding a tiny newborn, but for now she was more than content to stick to daydreaming about it.

Give It Some Thought: Imagine Operating a Smartphone. Or a Drone. Or a Computer That Speaks. Just Imagine - Technology Org
Dennis DeGray’s path to the extraordinary world of brain-computer interfaces began with a mishap during the most mundane of chores: taking out the trash. He was running to the curb on a rainy night when he went flying head over heels. In the murk of semiconsciousness, he thought he’d been bound by someone breaking into his house. It wasn’t until the next day that a neighbor heard his calls to be freed. “Dennis,” the man told him, “you’re not tied up.”
Illustration by Brian Stauffer, Stanford University
DeGray had simply slipped, breaking his neck between the second and third vertebrae. The machinist and former volunteer firefighter was paralyzed from the neck down. The week before his injury, he’d been on a guys’ trip in Northern California, shooting and fishing; the next, he says, his world had shrunk to bed and constant TV. “It’s amazing how one minute’s bad decision can really change everything,” he says. “You just lay there like a slug, waiting to die, until you have a reason to move forward. Then that reason becomes everything.”
DeGray’s everything is his leading role in an ongoing Stanford study of experimental devices that allow brains that can no longer fully communicate with their bodies to instead communicate with computers. In August 2016, nearly a decade after the accident, Stanford professor of neurosurgery Jaimie Henderson implanted a pair of electrode arrays the size of baby aspirins in the region of DeGray’s brain that is dominant for controlling his right hand—or was, before the accident throttled that communication. The so-called Utah arrays, each resembling a tiny bed of a hundred 1-millimeter nails, pierced just far enough into DeGray’s motor cortex to eavesdrop on surrounding neurons and relay the information to outside computers poised to decode it.
A month after surgery, DeGray made his first attempt to use the device. By visualizing moving his hand—essentially willing it to do what it no longer could—DeGray transmitted the neural signals that allowed him to gain control of a computer cursor in 37 seconds. Shortly thereafter, he was tasked with hitting 50 targets on the monitor before him. “I got them,” he says. “I got all 50 of them.” He remembers silence from the scientists in the room. “They’re a dry bunch,” he says. But it was an auspicious meeting of man and machine. Over the past seven years, DeGray has devoted himself to pushing the research further. In 2017, he set a mental typing record of eight words a minute by imagining himself hunt-and-pecking on a virtual keyboard. In 2020, he tried a new method—imagining writing letters out by hand, so that researchers could attempt and assess the decoding of mental handwriting. To train the algorithms, DeGray spent days visualizing holding a pen to a yellow notepad and picturing the act of writing out thousands of letters, stroke by stroke. “It was like punishment, but I did it religiously,” he says. He describes the task as a combination of writing sentences in after-school detention and being walloped by a personal trainer at the gym. “It’s a workout,” he says. “It requires me to attempt the movements. I’m as tight as I can be and as flexed as I can be. My blood pressure goes up. I have to be reminded to breathe.” The results—converted to type by computer—validated the effort. DeGray more than doubled his own record, to 18 words a minute.
‘I like to think of it like we’re developing the alphabet that other people will use to write books.’
The findings were proof of concept, not medical product. DeGray could tap his new powers only in the presence of researchers who calibrate and run a complex system that requires a trolley of computers that plug into pedestals attached to his skull. But they were eye-catching evidence of the potential for BCIs—brain-computer interfaces—to transcend the barrier between the interior of the brain and the external world, a leap that may one day enable people with a wide variety of neurological conditions to regain function in movement, communication, and vision, and that ultimately may provide a novel platform for treating and monitoring brain health and recovery. DeGray doesn’t expect that future to come quickly enough to change his life, but he has dedicated himself to its promise. “I like to think of it like we’re developing the alphabet that other people will use to write books.”
Sense and Sensibility
When Henderson, the doctor who operated on DeGray, joined the Stanford faculty in 2004, he brought expertise in deep brain stimulation, which delivers tiny jolts of electricity to the brain as a treatment for several conditions, including Parkinson’s disease. He’d been trying in vain to find a partner to explore the emerging world of BCI when, shortly after his arrival at Stanford, he was introduced to Krishna Shenoy, then an assistant professor of electrical engineering. Shenoy was dedicated to decoding the language of neurons, the voltaic pulses that send information throughout the nervous system. He had developed algorithms increasingly adept at deciphering the neural commands that control hand and arm movements in monkeys. His goal was to translate that work to humans—exactly what Henderson was looking for. It was the beginning of a relationship that would result in the formation of the shared Neural Prosthetic Translational Lab in 2009 and one that would last until Shenoy’s death from pancreatic cancer last year at 54. “It was chemistry,” Shenoy told Stanford Medicine in 2017. “Two people who just clicked.”
The pair met at a crucial time for BCIs. The first in-person studies were just beginning, after decades of animal testing. In 2004, researchers from Brown University and several other institutions performed the first human implementation of a Utah array, the spiky sensor that remains the gold standard for academic research in the field. That study implanted a sensor in the brain of a 24-year-old man who had been paralyzed by a knife to the neck, giving him basic cursor control as well as the ability to open and close a prosthetic hand and move a robotic arm. It was a vivid illustration not only that the brain retains its ability to issue orders years after the body stops receiving them, but that a BCI can provide it an attentive new audience. While the performance was groundbreaking, it was also rudimentary. A New York Times piece, published the same day the study appeared in Nature, noted the cursor control was wobbly and slow—taking 2.5 seconds, on average—and that the participant could only “somewhat” control the robotic arm. The reporter, however, cited another BCI study from the same issue of the journal, this time tested in monkeys, that reportedly operated about four times as fast. The work was from the Shenoy lab.
Brain stimulation – artistic interpretation.
In the years to follow, much of the excitement around BCIs centered on the potential for brain-controlled robotic limbs. In 2016, President Barack Obama fist-bumped with a robotic arm controlled by Nathan Copeland, a 30-year-old with paralysis. Copeland not only controlled the fist but also sensed the bump, thanks to electrodes implanted in a region of the brain that processes sensory information from the body. The Stanford research focused on areas that were less visually demonstrative, but graceful, intuitive, and effective. In a 2018 study led by Paul Nuyujukian, MS ’11, PhD ’12, MD ’14, now a Stanford assistant professor of bioengineering and of neurosurgery, participants used their thoughts to peruse music, search YouTube, and compose emails.
It was all done with BCIs that connected via Bluetooth with generic computer tablets fresh from Amazon. The humdrum hardware belied the fiendish complexity of the process: Nuyujukian compared the job of decoding neural commands to listening to a hundred people speaking a hundred different languages. But in a world where there’s an app for everything, researchers saw the power in creating ways to seamlessly control the consumer electronics that dominate everyday life. “We had to persevere in the early days, when people said, ‘Ah, it’s cooler to do a robotic arm—it makes a better movie,’” Shenoy told MIT Technology Review in 2021. But “if you can click, then you can use Gmail, surf the web, and play music.”
Stanford’s lead researchers understood how vital a role BCIs could play in communication. Shenoy said his work was influenced by his maternal grandfather—a World War II–era U.S. Marine—whose multiple sclerosis had affected his ability to walk, talk clearly, and move his hands effectively. Henderson was 5 when his father sustained severe and lasting injuries in a car accident, including serious brain trauma. “He would try to express himself really, really hard,” Henderson says. “It was hard to understand what he said. Eventually, we would usually figure out what silly pun he was trying to make, or that he was proud of us for something.” Henderson says his childhood imbued him with an awareness of the power of communication, a value mirrored in the lab’s goals. “For me, that’s the most important thing.”
When Henderson and Shenoy started collaborating, the idea of using BCIs to decode speech seemed distant indeed. Primates provide a model for motor studies, but no lab animal is relevant to speech, a uniquely human process controlled by a blizzard of electrical pulses to 100-some muscles in the cheeks, lips, jaw, tongue, and larynx. But in more recent years, a series of scientific strides—including a better understanding of the geography of the brain, improved surgical procedures, and, most prominently, the rise of machine learning—transformed the possibilities.
In 2021, a team from the lab of Edward Chang, a neurosurgeon at UCSF, published a groundbreaking paper detailing the use of a BCI that decoded the speech of a former field worker who had had a stroke 16 years earlier. The average American knows about 42,000 English words and speaks perhaps 150 of them per minute. At 18 words a minute and limited to a 50-word vocabulary, the BCI breakthrough was front-page news in the New York Times. “Not to be able to communicate with anyone, to have a normal conversation and express yourself in any way, it’s devastating, very hard to live with,” the research participant said via email in the piece, later adding, “It’s very much like getting a second chance to talk again.”
‘So many years of not being able to communicate and then suddenly the people in the room got what I said.’
The Stanford lab began to publish its own speech work last year, pushing the frontier even further. One of the key participants was Pat Bennett. A dozen years earlier, her words had begun to slur after she drank a glass of wine, prompting friends to suspect that the daily jogger and regular equestrian was hiding a drinking problem. In fact, Bennett had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that often results in death within five years. Bennett’s disease moved more slowly, but it was quick to attack her power of speech.
After hearing about Stanford’s BCI research from her medical team, Bennett volunteered to participate. In March 2022, Henderson implanted four sensors in two areas of her brain associated with speech. About a month later, she began working with Stanford scientists who cued her to recite thousands of sentences over the following four months. As Bennett read the prompts, machine learning algorithms began to correlate her brain signals with the sounds she intended. The results were fed into a sophisticated autocorrect system not unlike those on a smartphone.
By the end of training—some 10,850 sentences later—the software was deciphering Bennett’s speech into text at more than 60 words a minute using a 125,000-word vocabulary. The error rate of 23.8 percent was significant, but Bennett was delighted. “When the study advanced enough that I actually saw my garbled incomprehensible vocal noises translate to what I was saying, it was joyous,” Bennett wrote in a recent email. “So many years of not being able to communicate and then suddenly the people in the room got what I said. I don’t remember what I exactly said after the prescribed script finished, but it had to be along the lines of ‘Holy shit, it worked, I’m so happy, and you guys did it.’”
“I overloaded the memory on my phone because I would take videos of it every single time,” says doctoral student Erin Kunz, MS ’20, one of three lead authors of the paper, who had often decoded her father’s speech for others before he died of ALS. “I don’t want to delete them, because I want to remember it.”
Signal Boost
The Bennett paper was published in the same issue of Nature as a paper from Chang’s UCSF lab, which had used a different type of BCI in another participant unable to speak due to stroke. (It also created a digital avatar that modeled the woman’s emotions.) Their decoder was able to decipher that woman’s speech to text at 78 words per minute with a 1,000-word vocabulary and a 25.5 percent word error rate. By themselves, the two studies were obvious milestones of how quickly speech decoding research was moving, but just six weeks later a team led by scientists at UC Davis won the 2023 BCI Award with their demonstration of a BCI that reported decoding speech with better than 90 percent accuracy with a 125,000-word vocabulary on the second day of use. (Henderson and Kunz are among six Stanford co-authors on the study, which at press time had not yet been published in a journal.)
In fact, speech BCIs may be the first type available to the public, says UC Davis assistant professor of neurological surgery Sergey Stavisky, PhD ’16, a senior author on the winning study and a former student of Shenoy’s. The neural decoding required for control of robotic limbs—his initial focus at Stanford—is actually simpler, Stavisky says. But effectively executing those commands incurs other challenges, including the engineering of responsive, reliable, and mobile robotics. Similar challenges face researchers working on BCIs that could enable patients with severed spinal cords to move their arms and legs. Control of an appendage isn’t just a motor command; it also requires proprioception, or the sense of one’s own body in space. Think of how strange it can be to move an arm that’s fallen asleep or to chew after having Novocain at the dentist.
Once decoded, however, speech can be expressed relatively easily using consumer electronics. Stavisky imagines a fast-approaching future when people carry speech BCIs on their laps or belts. “I think within the next five years there will be approved medical devices for restoring communication.” (Less is known about the potential of BCIs to enable speech for those who have never spoken. “We haven’t taken that leap yet because we wanted to first show that our approach works well for the easier challenge of restoring lost speech,” Stavisky says. “It’s definitely something that’s on our radar and is one of the directions we aspire to investigate in the future.”)
Stavisky and Henderson are among the nine principal investigators of the BrainGate Consortium, a group of universities and academic medical centers studying BCIs. The collaboration has also enabled researchers to investigate the devices’ safety. A recent study of 14 BCIs implanted by BrainGate institutions, including two at Stanford, did not find any adverse effects that resulted in deaths, increased disabilities, or infections to the nervous system, or that required removal of the device.
One of the most remarkable things about the rise of BCIs is that they do so much with so little. In a three-pound organ containing billions of neurons, the sensors in studies like those involving DeGray and Bennett may be reading signals from just dozens of neurons. “It is really fascinating this works at all,” says Cindy Chestek, PhD ’10, a former student in Shenoy’s lab and an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan. Indeed, the Bennett experiment succeeded even though two of the four arrays did not provide relevant signals. Even so, realizing the full potential of BCIs—like enabling more naturalistic speech and movement—will depend on reading out much more data from the brain than currently possible. “It’s going to get a lot better when you have hundreds or even thousands of neurons,” Chestek says.
That requires new hardware, a likely prospect as companies jockey to create improved BCI products that could be approved for public use. The company with an inside lane uses a minimally invasive approach. Synchron—which last year became the first company to begin human trials of an implanted BCI in the United States—feeds a stent-like sensor up the jugular vein to the motor cortex, where it lines the wall of a blood vessel.
The device’s remove from neurons means it isn’t nearly as powerful as an implant—the current model allows participants with ALS to scroll and click a mouse, says Tom Oxley, the company’s CEO. But he thinks people will prefer the less invasive approach, and even these capabilities offer a transformative opportunity. “If you can navigate your way through an iPhone, you can do a bunch of meaningful tasks that we take for granted: shopping, ordering food, ordering your medication, jumping on a call, sending a message,” Oxley says. “That stuff gives you your independence back.”

Other companies are refining the Utah array model—creating implantable chips with more electrodes that will read out information wirelessly and use more bio-friendly designs. Existing BCIs in participants like Bennett have tended to decline in performance over time, due to either the brain’s resistance to a foreign body or the device’s degradation. Paradromics, an Austin, Texas–based company, is developing wireless implants that have more than four times the number of electrodes as a Utah array, says Vikash Gilja, MS ’10, PhD ’10, the company’s chief science officer. At the same time, he says, the devices are made of more durable material with thinner, less obtrusive electrodes. “The smaller we get them, the closer they are to being invisible to the body,” he says. The company expects to get FDA approval for clinical trials this year. Neuralink, a company co-founded by Elon Musk, is pursuing a similar track.
If these companies—or others like them—succeed, they could provide a platform for new approaches across a wide range of medical needs, Chestek says. “You’re interfacing with the brain at a neuronal level,” she says. “You can imagine a future of medicine where a lot of what you do is interacting with neurons and getting the body’s own control system to do things.” Conversely, BCIs could play a brain-monitoring role. Nuyujukian’s lab, for example, is looking at the potential for BCIs to shed light on stroke recovery. Each year, hundreds of thousands of Americans survive a stroke, often requiring intense physical rehab that occurs without any reliable window on how well it’s working. “We don’t have any scientific understanding into what changes at the neural-circuit level postinjury,” he says. A BCI could provide “a real-time readout of the state the brain” that guides how patients are treated. BCIs could ultimately offer similar insights for conditions such as epilepsy, depression, and Alzheimer’s.
Taking Flight
From his bed in a Menlo Park nursing home, DeGray continues to help researchers demonstrate what is possible. Last summer, he cast aside his imaginary pen and took to the air. Two miles away, a drone was taking off, flying, and landing, all under the command of DeGray’s thoughts. The research was gathering data on 4-D control— up/down, forward/backward, left/right, and rotation—but it was also simply and undeniably about fun, a symbol of the freedoms that BCIs promise. “You have to get him to quit,” says Henderson. “It’s like ‘OK, Dennis. We’ve been at this for hours. You’re going to get tired. We have to stop for today.’”
The work continues without Shenoy, which weighs on Henderson’s mind. “It’s very tough because it grew organically and it was truly a joint venture,” he says. Shenoy was both a visionary whose work transformed the field and a beloved mentor to a generation of scientists who continue to push its boundaries. Before his first cancer surgery, in 2011, he began to bank recommendation letters for his students, which he would update whenever he felt his health decline.
At his memorial service, there were nearly 20 tenured or tenure-track faculty who’d been his advisees, a remarkable output for a small lab, Stavisky says. “He was probably the best adviser I have ever even heard of,” Chestek says. “We’re not going to see another Krishna, but maybe all of us together can keep all of this going.” For Henderson, that means sticking to the vision he and Shenoy developed together, thanks to the collaboration of other engineering faculty.
DeGray will keep helping show the way. He’s contributed to thousands of hours of research and been central to a score of academic papers. Eight years after his surgery, the signals from his implants have remained serviceable, and his commitment unflagging. He works with Stanford researchers two days a week, and says he’d add a third if he had more energy. He’ll always be processing what he lost that day when he was hurrying to take out the trash, he says. “It’s so big you can’t really address it.” But he’s gained something too. “I’ve been given a great gift of being able to help other people,” he says. “Somewhere out there, there’s a guy who hasn’t even fallen down yet and when he falls down, he’s not going to have to go through what I’ve gone through. When he wakes up in the morning, his life will be substantially different than mine. And that’s a good thing.”

Can a chiropractor do physical therapy?
While in many states, both a chiropractor and a physical therapist will carry out insurance for active and passive physical therapy treatments due to a division of occupations, separate legislation has been put in place to regulate how one can speak properly about "what they do," or who they are.
We still recommend that if you don't do "physiotherapy," every decent chiropractor will refer to “Physical Therapy Chiropractor near me” to give the patient "completeness" in rehabilitation.
