eight's Aspiration Calculator & Personality Coder For the Sims 1 and the Sims 2
I'm reposting because I made some updates! But the link will stay the same for as long as I can help it. The SimPE Order version is included now and I won't be keeping the old link to it up-to-date.
Feel free to use/copy/edit/share/etc. To use, simply make a copy of the spreadsheet where you are the owner or download it as a file. More info under the cut.
The Aspiration Calculator:
It includes calculations for HB's Traits Project with room for other trait mods, and is designed for the calculations to be customizable because maybe you don't think a non-committal Libra with high outgoing points should be a Romance sim. It's also designed to be used as-is, so you can get right down to it. Its initial settings may be derivative of other calculators but these are the settings I use it on. For the record, there is a built in tie-breaker function that will prioritize them in the original order they're listed.
The Personality Coder:
This one is a little different. It's basically meant to put all of the numbers and traits that make up a Sim's personality into a simple code so you don't have to look them up and then type them by hand every time. I find myself always having to do this and I got tired of it so this is my solution. In my hood tracker there's a field for personality codes, and I catalogued them for every premade.
Changes:
Aug 4th, 2023:
Added the personality coder/decoder
Added a guide in the first tab
Tokens are less weighted
Traits are less weighted
Zodiac signs are included now, with settings
It's prettier! Lookie!
Jun 28th, 2024:
Consolidated the personality coder/decoder and aspiration calculator so they function as one
Added the Wiki Order spreadsheet as a tab
Traits are now part of the code
More trait slots, why not?
Guide was re-written a bit to account for all of this
Copy/pasting and deleting cells should cause less issues
Jul 7th, 2024:
Consolidated SimPE order*/game order into the same spreadsheet and added a toggle Jul 12th: Not worth a major update but the Wiki lists interests in the game's order so it was renamed to reflect that
Fixed an issue with some of the interests not getting counted
Fixed an issue with not all of the new trait slots getting counted
In the past week a lot of its formulas were streamlined
Apr 29th, 2025:
Fixed the traits part of the Personality Coder so that new traits added to the settings were actually recorded properly
Consolidated hidden tokens and incorporated them into the personality coder
Added Original Aspiration for premade Sims etc., currently uses the same value as hidden tokens, "Aspiration Bonus" in the settings
Added One True Hobby to the personality code, NOT to calculations. OTH Calculation is already tied to personality and interest points in-game
A lot of stuff was moved around in general
I heard someone Grilled a Cheese on this spreadsheet
Fixed the half-assed Grilled Cheese calculation I implemented early this morning
May 1st, 2025
Fiddled with the default Grilled Cheese calculations again
Older version pictures for future reference's sake:

Y'all don't get it, I'm this (🤏) close to actually writing a book or something about jews who are badass and survive the apocalypse and one of them is like... trying to build a motorcycle with scrap parts or whatever. I'm actually mentally ill about this
#jumblr#personal thoughts tag#i talk about this a lot but i LOVE apocalypse media so much#if i were a coder it would be a video game because i prefer video games as a medium for apocalypse settings. but alas.#i'm authoring this post on the clock by the way. i am being paid to talk to y'all about jews in the apocalypse rather than doing my job

I have a new nemesis, her name is technical communication
coding bootcamp is going great why do you ask
#coding#python#meme#homemade memes#it's been a mere two days of pair programming and me struggling to remember which one a semi-colon is and wtf quotation marks are called#so I've made a cheat sheet now cause mf I didn't have english in school until I was 15 and we never had a class *in* english#other than *english class* and then once in the uk I went to art school where the only time punctuation was relevant was essays#and if someone needed to make a correction while proofreading that they'd just -YA KNOW- TYPE THE CORRECTION#((for non-coders: technical communication = explaining ur code to other coders#pair programming = coding in pairs; person 1 decides the logic person 2 writes it out -> involves a lot of technical communication))#bootcamp

DARKEST BEFORE DAWN - PERSONAL PROJECT
The last major bit of the theme is finally complete! I still have a bunch of random bits of styling and things that make it fully responsive and cohesive but progress! I'm really happy with the way things have turned out.
Anyway, here is a quick look at the Post Row for OOC accounts and then also IC accounts (one with the text-based customizations and one with image-based).

I've been doin' a lot of thinkin' lately. I've been having a lot of fun coding lately. (40hr work + 10hr volunteer, personal has fallen by the wayside ...again.) But once again, I’m warming up to the idea that I probably could and should start coding more productively on personal things again. Where the time will come from I'm not yet sure (probably getting more strict with my web comic reading and YouTube and Disney.)
The one thing I do have going for me is the first personal project I'm thinking of isn't some vague video game. It's a local financial (bank/budgeting/forecasting) app that I already started with my husband.
What I don't know is how much I should prioritize my personal software projects over what I already have going on. Should I consider backing out of my volunteer coding position (and probably my closest online friends) of almost 4 years? How would I be able to maintain or improve my code-life balance? How can I make sure I'm not setting myself up for burnout? Is it worth researching how to being an indie developer would work (small business, Patreon, marketing, ...) ???
I'm not sure these thoughts will lead to anything, because I already know that my thoughts and moods on things may linger, but often do not last. But I kind of want them to this time. These thoughts feel productively introspective, which is new to me.

Weebly is better than wix, neocities is the best. Wix is being boycotted rn & shitty so you should definitely move to another platform
Copy that 👍
#i have a neocities but it will Not work for my project lol. I am a baby coder and what functions I need are out of my skill range#and coding is not something I actively enjoy. I have a barebones site for personal use and that's all i can muster#lorekeeper with our own host is more along the lines of what I want but. money.#weebly it be. just gotta uh. build it again

Art and character designs I made for a now discontinued 48 hour game jam visual novel last year.
#The game was originally going to be updated but I'm no longer friends with the coder and writer. I figured I'd share some small snippets of#Old work cause of that.#I still draw both shown characters in my own time as their designs were entirely my own; all of the art and design was my work. I have give#Both of the characters different names and personalities now#as I didn't do the games writing.#The quality on these is a little lower due to the fact over ten sprites were made for 4 different characters in 48 hours#But only two of those characters got used and#I believe most the sprites didn't make it in.#I also had to make backgrounds end art ui ect.#Which was a lot considering my backpain#This won't be getting any tags or anything as it's personal but I needed something to share#While I work on more stuff.#I also named the game#So it's likely if I learn a little more I will revamp this game in rpgmaker OR Renpy like the original. Just with my own storyline.

It’s a simple process, really; you walk up to the console, enter a number, and either the microchip implanted in your body at birth immediately kills you or a little slot underneath the screen pops out a wad of cash and you move on with your life.
The lines were long, so you had plenty of time to people watch. Most people walked away with nothing; anything short of 90% chance of sudden death wouldn’t get you any money, and less than $1000 was just not worth it, even for teenagers who thought they were invincible. Only a few people actually took the risk. You could tell which ones they were by how they tensed right before hitting the confirmation button at the bottom of the screen. And then went entirely limp as they crumpled to the ground, losing their gamble. Not one of them got their money.
As the person in front of you stepped up to the console, you idly wondered if the cash slots still worked, or if they had rusted closed from disuse. Or maybe there never even was any money in there.
And suddenly, it was your turn. You stepped up to the console, palms slightly sweaty. Of course, you had no intention of taking any chances, but it was still a little nerve-wracking to be only one typo away from death. There was a fingerprint scanner and a small number pad underneath the screen, which was black with three large words printed across it in white: "ENTER YOUR NUMBER."
You swallowed, scanned your thumb on the scanner, and used the number pad to do just that: 0. Just to be safe, you entered a few more 0's, a period, and some more 0's. Wouldn't want something weird to happen with unfilled digits. You hit the "enter" key on the number pad and held your breath.
The console's message changed: "CALCULATING REWARD..." It would come out to 0, then announce that you were free to--
The screen suddenly went blue, and from the sounds of protest from the people around you, yours wasn't the only one. As the technicians -- who were really just there to tote out the corpses of the foolish -- worked their way through the crowd, white text appeared on the screen:
Error on line 15:
Illegal operation: divide by 0
When a technician finally reached your side, he took one look at the console and cursed. "God dammit, who's the asshole who put in 0?!"
"Um... that may have been me," you admit sheepishly. You had no idea what was going on; of the hundreds of teenagers at the consoles before you who had also refused to risk death, not one of them had broken the machine, but somehow you had?
The technician shot you a disparaging look as he pulled a foldable keyboard out of his pocket and plugged it into a port hidden on the side of the console. "Seriously? Couldn't you have just jumped off of a building like a normal person? You didn't have to come in here and break our machine..."
The technician started tapping away at his keyboard, still grumbling, while your brain worked furiously to figure out what he was talking about. Why would he think you were suicidal for entering 0? You entered 0 because you wanted 0% chance of death--
Your heart skipped a beat as you realized. The number the machine wanted wasn't chance of death -- you were supposed to tell it your chance of life. Every person ahead of you who had made the same choice had entered 100%; you, on the other hand, had asked the machine for certain death.
In a daze, you watched the console screen as the technician worked. Instead of its usual simple, almost menacing black interface, it now displayed the rolling hills of a version of Windows older than you were with a terminal window pulled up in the corner. You didn't know much about coding, but you suspected that the mere 20 lines of code pulled up in the terminal were the entirety of what ran the machine.
The technician groaned. "Are you kidding me?! Why does it decide the money before it even decides if the person is going to live to see it?! And there's not any kind of error handling! How has it taken this long for the machine to break? I'd heard that it was shitty, but I didn't think it was this bad!"
You barely understood a word of what he said, but you did get the important part: you had asked the machine for certain death and been spared by a technical error. With a few more key presses on the technician's keyboard, the console returned to its original screen. The technician folded his keyboard away and turned to go.
"Wait...!" you called after him. "What should I do?"
The technician sighed and turned around. "Well, you can't use the console again -- the machine already marked your fingerprints as used," he told you. "At least there's an actual database hooked up to this thing so we didn't lose everything when it crashed," he added under his breath. The technician returned to his normal volume. "You're not getting any money, if that's what you're asking. Just be grateful you still have your life and get out of here."
His expression softened. "And, maybe take it as a new lease on life?" He put a hand on your shoulder. "I promise you, kid, life can be tough, but it's almost always worth living. Don't forget that, okay?" He awkwardly pat your shoulder before walking back to his post at the edge of the room.
You took his advice and left the room, truly grateful to be breathing in a way that, suicidal or not, you never had been before.
At 18 everyone must go to “the machine” and choose a percent that represents the odds the machine will not euthanize you. Those who live are granted 1000/(x^5) dollars. You confuse the meaning of the numbers and become the first person to ever put 0, but when the machine activates, you survive.
#mayfly mayscribe#some worldbuilding things that got left out because I'm actually learning to do that:#$1000 definitely seems like a lot to an 18 year old who doesn't have to pay for their living expenses#but since The Choice is already ingrained in their culture#it is extensively covered in education and many parents will also impress on their kids that $1000 is not worth a 90%+ chance of death.#Some people do win the money but between the low number of people who actually try it and the low chance of it succeeding#it is rare enough to be a newsworthy event.#Over time the technicians have become less and less actual coders who can successfully troubleshoot issues#and more and more burly dudes who can actually carry out the occasional body. Cause you know most CS majors are not particularly strong.#Not that the original technicians were ever super capable; I mean just look at the code college grad Dave wrote to control life and death.#But anyways the other technicians don't actually know what they're doing so they just stood around looking important#while our guy fixed everything and grumbled about Dave's shitty code.#Anyways sorry this is what happens when you give CS person a CS-adjacent prompt.

DARKEST BEFORE DAWN - PERSONAL PROJECT
Decided to try something different for the Main Profile for this project and it was a LOT but its done now and going to be totally worth it. Instead of just doing a base Profile App, we decided to do more of a "choose your own adventure" style. What this means is that the players get to choose how they want their profiles to display so each one can be customized!
OOC Accounts will display some basic info as well as a list of their subaccounts (img 1). NPC accounts will have basic character info, a freeform tab, and a tracker (not pictured). All character accounts will have a basic info tab, freeform, connections, and a tracker.
On the Basics tab for character accounts, players have the option of having character traits or not. If they choose to have them, they can then choose between 2, 3, 4, or 6 (imgs 2-4).
On the Freeform tab for character accounts, players have the option of having aesthetic images or not. If they choose to have them, they can then choose between 2, 3, 4, or 6. In addition to this, players can choose to have a separate Updates section if their freeform format doesn't allow for adding current events (imgs 5-8).
Characters that are Victors will receive an extra tab between the Freeform and Connections that has all of their info for the Hunger Games that they won (img 9).
On the Connections tab, players have a few choices. The first one is whether they want to include fields for a shipper (platonic, romantic, and other). The second one is whether they want text-based connections or image-based ones (imgs 10-13).
The last tab is the Tracker and while its not customizable, it will only show the tabs that the account has applicable posts for. Pictured is a couple of views with all the tabs available (imgs 14-15).

I've finally figured out an argument that convinces coding tech-bros that AI art is bad.
Got into a discussion today (actually a discussion, we were both very reasonable and calm even through I felt like committing violence) with a tech-bro-coded lady who claimed that people use AI in coding all the time so she didn't see why it mattered if people used AI in art.
Obviously I repressed the surge of violence because that would accomplish nothing. Plus, this lady is very articulate, the type who makes claims and you sit there thinking no that's wrong it must be but she said it so well you're kind of just waffling going but, no, wait-- so I knew I had to get this right if I was gonna come out of this unscathed.
The usual arguments about it being about the soul of it and creation fell flat, in fact she was adamant that anyone who believed that was in fact looking down at coding as an art form as she insisted it is. Which, sure, you can totally express yourself through coding. There's a lot more nuance as to the differences but clearly I was not going to win this one.
The other people I was with (literally 8 people anti-ai against her, but you can't change the mind of someone who doesn't want to listen and she just kept accusing us of devaluing coding as an art) took over for I kid you not 15 minutes while I tried desperately to come up with a clear and articulate way to explain the difference to her. They tried so many reasonable arguments, coding being for a function ("what, art doesn't serve a function?") coding being many discrete building blocks that you put together differently, and the AI simply provides the blocks and you put it together yourself ("isn't that what prompt building is") that it's bad for the environment ("but not if it's used for capitalism, hm?" "Yeah literally that's how capitalism works it doesn't care about the environment" she didn't like that response)
But I finally got it.
And the answer is: It's not about what you do, it's about what you claim to be.
Imagine that someone asks an AI to write a code and, by some miracle, it works perfectly without them having to tweak it---which is great because they couldn't tell you what a single solitary thing in that code means.
Now imagine this person, with their code that they don't know how it works, goes and applies to be a coder somewhere, presenting this AI code as proof that they're qualified.
Should they be hired?
She was horrified, of course. Of course they shouldn't be. They're not qualified. They can't actually code, and even if by some miracle they did have an AI successfully write a flawless code for every issue they came across that wouldn't be their code, you could hire any shmuck on the street to do that, no reason to pay someone like they're creating something.
When actual engineers use AI what they do is get some kind of base, which they then go though and check for problems and then if they find any they fix them, and add on to the base code with their own knowledge instead of just trying different prompt after prompt until they randomly come across one that works.
People who generate code like this don't usually call themselves engineers. They're people who needed a bit of code and didn't have the knowledge to generate it, and so used a resource.
And there you go. There are people who have none of the skills of artists, they don't practice, they don't create for themselves. When they feed the prompt to the AI they then don't just use the resulting image as a reference point for their own personal masterpiece, and if they don't like it they don't have the skills to change it---they simply try another prompt, and do that until they get something they like.
These people are calling themselves artists.
Not only that, these people are bringing the AI generated thing to interviews, and they are getting hired, leaving people who slave over their craft out of the job.
And that is the difference, for the tech bros who think AI art isn't a big deal.
