Okay guys help me settle something that has bugged and confused me personally for many years:
And before anyone breaks out a “well actually this is the RIGHT one,” please note that Encyclopedia Britannica literally offers all three as valid options. I am looking purely for consensus on vibes here. (And maybe hoping to find allies for my favored and imo underutilized choice, Option 1)

Shiva and Parvati seated on Nandi, one of the many sculptures enshrined in niches around the walls of Sahastrabahu Temple in Rajasthan, India. The walls of Sahastrabahu temple are decked with stone carvings of gods, goddesses, celestial nymphs, mythological beasts in typical Maru-gurjar style of architecture.

nikkicafeina said: There's just /something/ there when all our revolutionary leaders learned about justice and heroism and politics from Europe (sometimes IN Europe) and Europe learned it from Rome and in the end it just comes down to how we've never learned to say "freedom" in our own languages, and maybe we never can.
I actually have a much more optimistic opinion on this! even if our history has been brutalized four times over (spain, america, japan, and both marcos administrations), we did, as a people, learn to cry for freedom, and it did not come from a place of Roman imagery or European thought.
there were parts of the Philippines that managed to escape the full force of imperial violence due to the simple fact of geography, and they resisted tyranny as much as someone inspired by the writings of Rizal did, and there were parts of the Philippines that have always resisted the forceful reach of Manila to culturally assimilate and consume all other cultures and regions under an invented national one. these are calls for freedom, maybe without language, but it IS resistance born out of the filipino people, without the hand of europe to guide it.
even if much of our history was lost, rewritten, bastardized, the Filipino people have always resisted, even if the conclusion was tragic or forced into something else by someone's poetic but misguided bullshit, because at the end of the day, it is intolerable to be under the foot of someone else and it always has been, everywhere across the world.
the continuation of imperial visuals (whether it's the Western talking points of the government, the architecture, the Roman Empire) has a lot to do with structures of power. the government is distinctly European-Western. honestly, it's fucking American. it's driven by capitalism and imperialism, or a desire to ally with imperialist nations, to subjugate and maintain power to benefit a handful of officials who desire profit above all else. this is a tragedy, and we seem unable to shake it!
but. our students have always come forward to fight against injustice. we burned effigies, we protested, we call for justice even when our journalists are killed, our farmers are massacred in the streets, when our people are shot down by the military. many people from my province do not have a higher education, they would not know of the messy politics of imperial powers, but they do know that the elections were bullshit and the farmers are suffering and government doesn't fucking care, so they all turned out to march through the city to cry for justice, to be recognized.
today, we hold hands across seas with other oppressed people who are also desperate for freedom and peace. it would be nice to have our own words for it! but I'm not sure that we need it. it's enough to stand next to our countrymen and for others across the world and say, I got your back.
as the chant goes: from the classrooms to the streets, etc.
if our history had not been colonized, we might have had our own words and philosophies for it, instead of borrowed approximations, but the desire for freedom and justice is very much ours, and we have always called for it through action. the language now, I think, is one of solidarity. like, I think above all else, we MUST believe in a better future.

In time Bathala grew feeble with age and died. Then Apolaki and Mayari had a quarrel, for each wanted to rule the world alone. “I am the man and I will succeed my father to the throne,” said Apolaki. “I am going to rule the world, whether you like it or not.”
Mayari’s eyes flashed with anger and she said, “I am no less my father’s child than you. I will succeed him to his throne, whether you like it or not!”
It was only a matter of time before I had to draw them TwT I got the quote here!

Finally finished my designs for the Bakunawas paladin family
some extra blurbs on them below :DDD
Apo (he/him) - head of the paladin order, a bit strict but very compassionate. trained alongside Kedes when they were younger but now he doesn’t fight as much but is still very skilled at healing and light magic
Miranda (she/her) - tends to be sarcastic and doesn’t tolerate “shenanigans” of any sort (comes off as a bit rude if you don’t know her well) very protective of the younger members (Mamiyo and Lllokesin) very by the book and can identify lots of types of undead, ghosts, hauntings and etc.
Agueo (they/them) - second in command, strong silent type, very meticulous and helps in the upkeep of the order’s living space, very intimidating but very competent, taught the Bakunawas basic knowledge and life skills (math, reading and writing, cooking, cleaning, etc.)
Kedes (he/him) - many things wrong with this guy... supposedly older than Apo but stopped ageing a long time ago really strong and could probably take out an army of undead on his own but is constantly in pain. on good days, he tells the kids about his and Apo’s adventures and also teaches them basic combat but on bad days, he spends his time in his quarters,
Suku (they/she) - a well-traveled paladin who decided to settle at this order and naturally has plenty of stories to tell about everything they’ve seen across lore (made the kids want to leave the nest and experience the world for themselves). very concerned with the way she presents herself (also pierced the kids ears)
Mamiyo (she/her) - second youngest, energetic and is in charge of watching the kids most of the time since she can keep up with them. really sweet and also crafty (knows a lot  of secret corners and shortcuts) taught the kids how to have fun (through pranks) and do creative stuff like art and sewing (her cravat was made by Nx)
Llokesin (he/they) - youngest in the order and found the kids on his patrol of the woods. a bit of a scaredy cat and is the subject of pranks from other paladins and later the kids. really good with plants and foraging and also elemental magic

Isonade (Spinopinnasqualus japonica) – Sail Struggling
Tumblr media
“ Living sharks were not related to modern-day sharks, like dogfish and whale sharks. However, are the Yamato and Hawaiians aware that this yacht-sized pricked shark swore revenge against the festival? ”
– Eostre
Isonade (Spinopinnasqualus japonica) is the minor tritagonist and antagonist, as well as one of the species of ancient shark introduced in Worldcraft rebooted series as part of Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure sequel.
Etymology
Isonade's name from Japanese: 磯撫で; even in Katakana: いそなで (isonade) means beach stroke.
Physiology
Isonade is a real shark that doesn't belong to any modern-day sharks; it is actually an ancient shark called hybodonts. Isonade possessed sharp spines, blue-gray skin, navy blue lines, durable scales, and blue-colored eyes.
Abilities
2022 edition: Isonade thrashes, with the large fin resembling a hand fan, to slam ocean waves into tsunamis. It commands their own minions called "Isonadette." The Isonadettes are smaller versions of Isonade that can spin in their school form to form a real whirlpool in the ocean until one isonade eats the whole thing.
2024 edition: Isonade thrashes, with the large fin resembling a hand fan, to slam ocean waves into tsunamis. It commands their own body and tailfin to spin and the form a real whirlpool in the ocean until the itself eats the whole thing after the whirlpool stops. No smaller version of itself and it was removed for being dumb.
Behavior
Isonade is strange, but since humans and other mammals are not part of their natural diet, they are not harmful to us. Although they have a bad reputation, sharks don't often attack people and prefer to eat fish, birds, pterosaurs, dragons, and marine reptiles over marine mammals.
Distribution and Habitat
Isonades are found in Nihon and Hawaii as endemic species, which is included the deepest part of Hawaiian–Emperor seamount chain.

Legends and myths about trees
Celtic beliefs in trees (28)
Ph for Phagos (Beech) - all year around, the Celtic Tree Calendar (Ref)
Stars: Mercury, Saturn; Gender: female; Element: air, earth; Patrons: Ogma, Thoth, Hermes, Mercurius, Odin, Kronos; Symbols: learning + knowledge, wisdom + understanding, prosperity
The beech tree is a tree of learning, a symbol of prosperity and success. When walking through a beech forest, the large trees with the smooth, silver-grey bark and the curves created by the trunk and branches are like a living elephant or rhinoceros, giving you a sense of relief all year round.
In spring, the beech forests are bright and breezy, and the bluebells are in full bloom, the contrast between the dazzling young leaf colours and the blue announces that ‘spring has come’. In spring, the beech spreads soft, translucent, golden-green leaves with a fan-like shape, and in summer these leaves eventually become hard and dark green in colour, changing to yellow, reddish brown or golden in autumn. It is an essential tree for the forest.
The beech tree symbolises the written word, human innate wisdom and ancient knowledge. In olden times, writing was written on beech wood, and the first books were made by binding thinly cut beech wood. Before that, they were scrolls.
The beech tree is associated with deities of wisdom, knowledge and intelligence, such as Odin in Norse mythology, who brought us the runes, or the inventor of the Ogham script; the great warrior of the Tuatha Dé Danann; the monstrous strength of the eighty oxen; and the Celtic god, the sun-faced Ogma. And because of its connection with the creation of the secret code alphabet, it is also a symbol of divination and prophecy.

redacted filipino hcs & thoughts! lol
mostly about shaw pack + vamps + guy&honey
inpsired by @erial-c nahiya akong itag ka pero hiiii po
the trivia and translations are probably not accurate 🧍‍♀️please forgive my very scattered brain thoughts
darlin probably does arnis. it's why they fight like a menace 😈 sam has never known peace since he's seen em wield an ital
arnis - a ph martial art
itak - a bolo sword(?)
asher doesn't call milo "tol" bc he's not tall /j
"tol" is like the equivalent of "dude" as in a way of calling your friend
lovely & darlin would probably call vincent & sam their asawang (gets niyo ba asawa + aswang)
asawa means spouse or wife or husband
aswang is a ph mythological creature. different sources tell different things but what is mostly agreed upon is that (1) they're nocturnal (2) they usually pretend to be humans in the day time if not (3) they hide in the woods (4) they prey on children, pregnant women (specifically for their unborn child), and maybe new borns. they often get lumped with vampires though i'm not too sure how accurate that is.
aspins have a very special place in darlin's heart. sam's cabin in the woods usually have attract lots of them and they never had the heart to turn them away. in a way too, they know what it's like to being wild, dirty, street dog.
aspin - a dog breed in the ph that is sort of a mix of other breeds. they often get a bad rep for being street dogs and not having a particular breed.
vincent n his cars get featured a lot in those carspotting around manila tiktoks. whenever lovely finds em they make sure to send those to vincent lol
(this is me also hoping that vincent gets to keep at least few of them when they leave the house of solaire)
not entirely sure how the entire mate thing would translate into ph culture but even with all that david & asher would insist on doing things properly before marriage - they would mamanhikan to their partner's parents respectively hehehe
mamanhikan or pamamanhikan is a like a traditional practice of going to the fiancee's family's house and asking for their hand in marriage lol.
whenever they drive down shaw boulevard, the pack would turn to david and go "taga dito ka di ba?" or something to that effect HAHAHAHHA
"taga-dito ka 'di ba?" = "you're from (around) here, right?"
angel know it's general cleaning morning whenever david is blasting opm songs or old timey songs around their house.
asher would take panliligaw very seriously!!!!! magpapaalam sa magulang lagi ni baabe paglalabas sila!!! aabangan niya after work si baabe tapos "sabay na raw sila umuwi" galawan mo asher talbot !!!! dyan ka magaling !!!! and ofc it never stopped kahit naging sila na ni baabe :)))
panliligaw or ligaw is a more traditional pre-dating courting stage in a relationship. lol
marie has definitely said to david & asher & milo & darlin at some point na "kakaselpon niyo yan". it doesn't matter that they're adults.
"kakaselpon niyo yan" = "it's because of that (damn) phone"
this one is a bit more in general: vampire houses have THE filipino family drama. territory/progeny disputes? grudges? backstabbing? been there done that.
speaking of vamps: pre-turning, sam was once an altar boy (darlin: hahaha samkristan)
speaking of sam (again): pre-turning, he has a picture in baguio, riding a horse & wearing a cowboy hat. when darlin found it they couldn't stop staring at it for a loong while.
sweetheart LOVES singing. marie loves having them over for karaoke.
marie would drag milo's ahh every night for simbang gabi.
simbang gabi - mass service for the nine nights leading up to christmas eve.
guy's filipino nickname would be "totoy"
"totoy" is another way of refering to a younger male. addtionally, it's also often used as a euphism for a dick HAHAJAHA
guy definitely has a tiktok acct tapos don siya nagpaparinig kay honey HAHAHAHA lagi niyang kinakanta "crush" by tweens of pop
guy always does those cheesy, poetry pick up line jokes to honey like:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. gusto kita i-keese (read: kiss)"
"mga 6 out of 10. medyo pilit yung rhyme"
"honey naman 😭😓"
translation:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. i want to give you a k-eese."
"a 6 out of 10. the rhyming was a bit forced."
"honey, c'mon 😭😓."
guy and honey are definitely oa x nonchalant pairings but may i also suggest na they are jeje x pogi typings. they both definitely have kanal humor though HAHAHA
- after returning to the pack, darlin couldnt help but cry tear up after marie called them "anak" again
anak = child

What are some stereotypical Danish things that Kento would love to be involved in? (Examples: making traditional dishes, festivals, etc.)
NONNIE THIS IS SUCH A CUTE QUESTION OOOOHHH LEMME THINK!!!!! MWAHAHAH, okay, since you asked so nicely, nonnie, here are my very self indulgent headcanons based on the fact that gege said nanami’s maternal grandfather is danish one time. (source: salem)
also danish people are losers when it comes to culture. our national dish is potatoes, sauce and pork. BUT i do have some (a lot of) thoughts about it.
okay so…. first of all i firmly believe kento nanami is a ryebread eater. you’re at lunch and he pulls up with one of these.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(not as fancy but i hope you get the picture.) if satoru is there he WILL make fun of kento. definitely tells him it tastes bad. kento will either 1) ignore satoru 2) tell him to fuck off. depends on his mood.
next up, i think he watches handball. not all the time obviously he’s a busy man 😔 BUT he has to watch the finals. whenever denmark scores he say a little “yes!” and clenches his fists but he’s not like obnoxiously man about it. (he does however celebrate when denmark wins. which we do a lot. prepare to get railed when we do.)
he has both a kaj bojesen monkey and a ph lamp. (iconic danish brands.) like these two i could see him having.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
his grandfather gave him them both. he cares about them a looot like a looooottt. if you’re having sex in his living room, he’s making sure the monkey is turned around so… ya know. it doesn’t see. HAHAH IT’S SILLY BUT I BELIEVE IT.
and last but not least i think he grew up on norse mythology stories. odin, thor, loki, ragnarok, the fenris wolf, the whole thing. i think his granddad would tell his mom, and then his mom told him when he was a kid. if you have kids with kento nanami they WILL grow up on bedtime stories about the nordic gods.
actually very last thing he brings out danish flags on birthdays. (us danes are very obsessed with our flags.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he’ll put them on your cake like this and when you ask why he just stops and blinks. his brain literally malfunctions and he goes “i don’t know. my mom always did that.”
HAHA. okay that’s all i have, nonnie. i hope i didn’t disappoint but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INDULGING ME I HAD FUN.
I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
NO WAGAGAH LAST THING KENTO NANAMI IS A FIRM BELIEVER IN RAINCOATS. IF ITS RAINING OUTSIDE YOU BEST BELIEVE HE’S PULLING UP LIKE ABOVE. ^^^^^ (enjoy my poor editing skills :3)
