More “getting to know me”meme-y-ness

I was tagged by ​ @tejoxys and by @plush-anon and I utterly adore them both, enough to mangle split infinitives  so here are some catching-up-with-me answers.

favourite colour: 

Green.  Green, green, green.  It restores my heart, and just pleases me on a deep-down level, in nature, in textiles, and in art. For some odd reason it was not a colour I remember in many childhood “play clothes” outfits, although it was one of the colours in my plaid school uniforms. Nor do I remember having much green in my outfits in high school. So once I started buying my own things in college and beyond, I laid in quite a few pieces of green.  Particularly forest green taffeta or velvet.

currently reading: 

I always have several books going at once, and usually in summer they’re re-reads rather than new titles. At home I’m several chapters in for my annual revisit of DANDELION WINE by Ray Bradbury and I’m dipping in and out of WHO KILLED KENNEDY by David Bishop as reinforcement research for fanfiction purposes [see “currently working on”]; at work I’m bouncing between Mary Balogh’s “Westcotts” books and a Dramatists’ Play Service copy of “The Crucible”.  I just finished THE STAND by Stephen King because partner brought home the 1990s TV miniseries, and I zipped through the book GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES in an afternoon because one of my favourite customers at the bookstore started talking about Anita Loos. 

last song: 

The last song I had queued up was “The Crook Of My Good Arm”. Lately I’ve been using both albums by Pale Young Gentlemen as the soundtrack for my NDU fanfics.

last movie:

RATATOUILLE. Due to only getting to see movies when they hit the $2.00-$5.00 DVD bargain bin [or if I am gifted them], I’m always three to twenty years behind theatrical releases. I don’t like watching things on streaming services on my non-television devices, because my mind makes me think I am still at work, since I’m in front of a computer between ten and fifteen hours a day.

last series:

Currently in the middle of the 2002 reboot of THE TWILIGHT ZONE hosted by Forrest Whitaker. Gonna see if the revised theme and incidental music is on CD.

sweet, spicy or savory: 

Savory. Give me meat, give me soup. I have barely any sweet tooth, other than for fruit, and I get bored with spicy food very quickly.

craving: 

Cool winds.

Autumn smells.

Cross-country train travel

Coffee.  I’ll drink tea, but I am not a connoisseur.

currently working on: 

I need to pick up my knitting again. 

i have drafts in progress for four different longer fanfictions, two straightforward RISE OF THE GUARDIANS fics, one ROTG/DOCTOR WHO crossover, and a longfic Nightmare Dork University story.

A room-by-room reorganization and overall tidy-up at home, similar to the way I revamped my office at work. Very good for my mental health, if I take it in slow chunks to allow for medical and mobility issues.

The Guardians of Overwatch

I absolutely love the game Overwatch and recently I have been trying to find some new ideas for drawing practice. I also love Rise of the Guardians. Naturally, they both came together in my mind and now I am going to compare which of the Guardians I think matches up with/would inspire a cool outfit of the style of an Overwatch character that would be really fun to try to draw!

Pitch Black - Widowmaker (Sniper Rifle) or Moira (Biotic Arms)

🎬 Movie/TV/YouTube: I don’t watch much TV and I really am behind on kdramas and anime so: mostly science youtube, art youtube, cooking youtube, analysis of creepy internet stuff youtube and, uh, internal drama youtube, but as I am learning korean special shoutout to KOREAN youtube for how much of it has english subtitles and how interesting the stuff they do is. Some of my favourites include:

Not all of them have english subtitles, and the subtitles can be a bit hilarious at times (”But what about the farts that eat more animals than humans?”) but really informative.

🧶 Craft/Hobby: I draw already and do have some plans to work on my video games more. Also learn more about music making. And I am having a great time playing Numenera with friends online.

📖 Story:  Last year during nanowrimo I wrote a full script for a very angsty comic and a beginning of a script for a longer, not so angst comic. I plan to work on both soon.

🍲 Recipe/Snack: I’ve built up a stash of ramen just in case, but my staple lunch is still hummus and sauces in a pitabread microwaved until the hummus becomes crumbly.

🏋️‍♀️ Exercise: I’m pretty isolated and my job is gardener in at least one even more isolated place so exercise shouldn’t be a problem for me for now. Also the dog will still need his exercise daily.

🎲 Games: I have soo many games that I’ve been meaning to play. A massive backlog, especially of the free games that VG person has translated. https://vgperson.com/games/

🎧 Music: I have a massive music library, with me getting my hands on all the osts to the games I get that are available, though I’ve also been spending time listening to korean covers of songs I like on youtube. (heh). Natalie Imbruglia’s song “All the Roses” fits my Numenera character really well. It’s a good song for characters who’s verb is “forges a bond”.

🎨 Art: COMIC! Also doing a lot of pixel art. And giving myself mini art challenges... .

🏖 De-stressors: Does singing “Welcome to the black parade” for 20 seconds (up to “the beaten and the dammed”) really loudly every time I wash my hands count? Does inwardsly plotting story stuff count? I do vent at people. Thank goodness for online friends! Also low drama webcomics.

--Baby Tooth is the reincarnation of Jack’s sister. And/or the Bennetts are descendants from Jack’s sister. Something like that. 

--THE WHOLE ICE CUBE JACK SAGA. Jack has the power to CUBE. (It started in the rotg discord as a silly idea of Jack melting and reforming as ice cubes and the whole thing just. Spiraled. 🤣 Credit goes to @askmyname, @spookifrost, @pepiis-dump, @pheasantmadness, @quillienvii for all participating in this madness.) 

--Jack is zombie soup. A dead body marinating for decades in icy broth. How does he still have such healthy flesh on him :| 

--Jamie has forbidden necromancy knowledge and that’s how he revived Sandy at the end of the movie.

Fear Miser!~

I have been listening to the Snow and Heat Miser songs from the old movie “The Year Without a Santa Claus” while binge playing League of Legends and then the inspiration hit me that Pitch Black would TOTALLY have an adorably silly song and dance sequence like that! He’d be called the Fear Miser and jam the heck out of it if the Guardians tried to visit him when some sort of calamity happened to Christmas.

It may go something like this:

Jack and the Guardians all hesitantly followed the nightmares towards their leader, sitting upon his black sand throne within his dark and frightening lair surrounded by many other steeds. North huffs and crosses his arms in a bit of annoyance as Pitch stands and approaches them with a sly grin.

N: Here he comes now, the big ham...

Pitch slides over to the group dramatically with a chuckle, twirling his giant scythe.

P: I’m mister dark christmas, I’m mister fear~ I’m mister nightmares, I’m mister black unknown~ Friends call me Fear Miser~ Whatever I touch, turns to fear in my clutch~ HAHA! I’m too much~!

The nightmares around the lair begin to dance and prance, singing along with him.

N: He’s mister dark christmas~ He’s mister fear~

P: That’s right!~ I never wanna know a day that’s too cheerful to stand, I’d rather have it dreary, dark for fright and then with screeeeeeaaaams!~ Oh, some like it dark, but I like it REALLY dark, ehehemwehehehe!~
