it’s Kerry and my V again, I think about these two so much even though I post so infrequently about them
Here's a bunch of scenarios and mental images about these two that I play over and over in my head, to help me calm down and go to sleep. Pretty self-indulgent.
After the surgery that saves his life, V moves in with Kerry. Over time, he designs and installs numerous security upgrades in the villa, and this gives Kerry an idea as to what to tell the public if they ask how the two met...
They agree on the following story: V broke into Kerry's villa to steal one of his guitars. Kerry caught him, and asked how he got past his security systems. (For the sake of the story, said security was nearly impossible to breach, though in reality it was the opposite.) After V gave his explanation, Kerry offered him a job to upgrade the security, and he accepted. They started seeing each other soon afterwards.
Dating celebrities is difficult. Kerry is bound by numerous contractual obligations, and in the beginning, he and V had to follow various "rules" when they're out in public -- for example, V wasn't allowed to touch Kerry. Eventually, they feel that they've had enough of these rules, and so Kerry gets in touch with his manager and demands that the terms of the contracts are re-negotiated. The rules are lessened -- the two are allowed to hold hands, hug, and kiss in public as much as they want, and V is allowed to come along whenever Kerry goes on tour.
Kerry notices that V has a little bit of an accent sometimes. V then explains that he was born in Dublin, Ireland, but most of his upbringing was in Night City. As he was growing up, many of his summers were spent in Ireland to visit his extended family -- while he was there, he would pick up on the accent. He’d lose it over time as he returned to Night City, but it seems it never goes away completely.
Kerry then asks where V’s family is now, and V reluctantly confesses that they had a falling out some years ago. He doesn’t seem proud of that, and so Kerry asks if he’d ever considered reconnecting with his family. V admits that he’s scared, but with Kerry’s support, he eventually builds up the courage.
They travel to the luxury condo of V's parents in Charter Hill. V is very nervous, but Kerry takes his hand to comfort him. As V's parents see their son at the door, they are skeptical at first -- but V makes his sincere apologies, getting emotional as he does so, and Kerry squeezes his arm to show his support. V's parents accept their son's apology and welcome him back, and he and Kerry are invited to stay for dinner.
V's sister and brother-in-law are also invited over for dinner. The siblings meet each other at the door and happily embrace, while the brother-in-law is stunned that V is dating Kerry Eurodyne.
Kerry eventually releases new music, and his manager schedules a tour. V tags along, because at this point, the two can’t stand being apart. On the AV flight to their first destination, they gaze out the window, looking at the wide expanse of the moonlit ocean. Calmed by the sight, they head to bed and snuggle for a while before going to sleep.
About a year since they’d started dating, Kerry and V go on vacation to the Philippines. Kerry shows V the home and culture he's so proud of, and V develops an understanding and appreciation for it. Watching the sunset at a beach, Kerry proposes, and V happily accepts. They don’t make any public statement, but over the next few weeks, the media goes crazy with speculation over the rings Kerry and V are now wearing.

RED RUBIES OF AFFLICTION | PW
“What a familiar sight of a successful figure, Atty. Fuentes.” A sudden greeting from a woman in a wine-red dress, with jewelry that reflects its stones of red rubies. Her eyes sparkled. She had the sweet smile of an angel. In events like these, meeting familiar faces were no surprise. Her presence was comforting as if her greetings were anticipated. It made me feel safe.
‘Atty. Valentina Ally Fuentes; the only heir of Fuentes Pharmaceutical.’
Spoiled rich girl? Such a stereotype I refuse to be associated with. My mother is publicly recognized as Dra. Amelia Fuentes, the owner of Fuentes Pharmaceutical. As for my father, he is the company’s CLO, Atty. Christophe Fuentes. Our business is the fruit of my parents’ sacrifices. Having the title of being one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the country, Fuentes Pharmaceutical continues to flourish. Knowing that our family business is a growing company still astounds me, but along with the wealth it brings is a deprivation that silently suffocates.
After passing the board exam five years ago, my father offered me a job to work under the company’s legal department. Years of working experience exposed me to the environment and exhaustion that comes with handling the company’s legal matters. There was no special treatment, for I am an employee of my parents and I wish to keep it professional in that manner. Having to work for my current title was an endless cycle of sleepless nights.
‘Atty. Valentina Ally Fuentes.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’
It is a title I have brought upon my name through perseverance. I have always wanted to be known for being Valentina Ally Fuentes and not only as of the daughter of my parents. With determination, I am with pride to say that I have successfully created a name for myself. I proved that I am more than just the heir of Fuentes Pharmaceuticals, that I deserve the company because of my hard work. I am to be remembered as Atty. Valentina Ally Fuentes, a lawyer, successor of the leading pharmaceutical company in the Philippines, and most importantly, a woman of her person.
Being an only child, I grew up in an environment too mature for my age. My parents were often preoccupied with the stress of managing the company. Being in the industry made it hard for them to provide time for me. I have always had a close bond with my mother. Although she used to be the CEO of Fuentes Pharmaceutical, I know how she would consistently check up on me and my state of coping with school. My energy is at its fullest when I am with my mother. She became the source of my motivation if ever I disappointed myself. Her voice gave me the peace that made me realize how valuable her presence is in my life. She is the comfort I will continue to long for.
“I apologize for my mother’s absence. On behalf of Dra. Fuentes, it was a pleasure catching up with you, Dr. Cabrera.”
I flew to Manila to assess the Fuentes Pharmaceutical Laboratory in Makati. My mother usually does the inspections of the laboratories; unfortunately, she is currently unavailable because of her emergency conference at Torres Medical Hospital. Upon arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, I placed my carry-on baggage in the trunk of the car and had Ashton drive me to the laboratory. Ashton is the son of our maid, Agatha, but he is now residing here in Manila after getting married. Even before my existence, Agatha has been working for our family. She worked as the caretaker of my grandmother, but because of my grandmother’s passing, she now works to take care of us.
Our laboratory in Makati is our second biggest after the main laboratory in Mandaue. I met up with Dr. Cabrera, a member of the board of directors and a trusted family friend. He toured me around the offices and introduced me to the staff. I never really introduced myself to staff due to some being intimidated by my presence.
So far, the laboratories are exquisitely designed. All were accessible and had a system that made it easier to inspect, and at the same time keep order and cleanliness. Of course, cleanliness is a sector that I meticulously assess. We are a pharmaceutical company after all, how could we risk the lives of our consumers as well as our staff?
After completing the inspections, I had to immediately catch my flight home to Cebu. It was around 5:35 in the afternoon when I called Ashton to pick me up and drive me to the airport. During the car ride, I felt this fear and uncertainty. I started sweating and trembling, not knowing the reason for my abrupt shivers. I calmly looked out my window, diverting my attention to the towering buildings in the area. City lights remind me of the times I used to come home late with my mother since I would always insist on coming home with her after my student council meetings. If only I could go back to the days where I am in the comfort of my mother’s warmth. I instantly avoided the sight, trying so hard to forget the distinct memories instilled in my mind.
“Oh my god! If I walked to the airport, I would have probably arrived there by now. Is this a sign to stay the night?” I said in annoyance.
The traffic in Manila is dreadful. Imagine sitting in a vehicle for almost an hour, what a hassle. If only I could just spend the night in my condo at Rockwell Makati, which is only a few minutes away from the laboratory. Unfortunately, I do not have all the time in the world especially now that I have duties to attend to back in Cebu. Good thing my secretary, Mrs. Aphelion, booked a flight at 9:25 PM so I do not have to worry about missing my plane. What would I do if I miss my flight due to traffic? At last, we arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport before the expected boarding time. Ashton assisted me with the door whilst saying his goodbyes. I boarded the plane, tired from all the wandering I did the entire day.
Upon my arrival at Mactan International Airport, I went to the parking lot and decided to drive myself home. I was on my way home when a sudden buzzing came from my phone. I ignored the call because I was driving, and I did not want to kill someone with my awful driving skills. Driving is not something I would do often. I barely passed my driver's license test. What choice do I have now that I am driving on the road together with reckless drivers?
“Urgh! Who again is calling?!…” I answered the phone when it rang again at the stoplight. It was Emsie, one of our maids. She rarely calls me, why would she call me multiple times now? I was about to speak when I heard her voice of fear.
“Ally, you need to come home right now! Please...” She sounds muffled. Her voice was breaking as if she was restricted from breathing. I felt needles puncture my skin, anxious about the reason for her flowing emotions.
“Madam is—”
“Ally, your mother is—” The call ended.
My mother? Did something happen at the conference? My thoughts were jumbled. I started imagining things I should not be imagining. My mind was too occupied with the thought of what had happened to my mother. From there, I knew it was something serious. I said how driving was never my expertise; but with shock, I drove fast and even forgot to breathe.
As I arrived home, the guards opened the gates with panic seen in their gestures. I ran inside as fast as I was capable of, not even caring about the glass sculpture I broke while rushing to find my father. The staff were in tears, I was confused. They pointed in the direction of the study. When I barged into the room, I saw a group of men talking to my father. They have dressed in navy blue uniforms with one holding a folder; they were policemen. My father’s eyes shifted and met with mine when he saw me, panting from all the running. I could not comprehend what was happening in front of me. I love my mother so much that I did not even bother to ask about what happened; instead, I screamed in pain asking where she is.
“Where is my mother?! Where is she?! I want to see her now...” My vision became blurry, tears filled my eyes. I was trembling, my body felt pain in the numbness; I was paralyzed. I could hardly stand properly when the policeman holding the folder turned to me. He looked disappointed.
“I am sorry for what happened, Attorney Fuentes. Three men have been suspected of the incident; it was an ambush. Dra. Fuentes was shot multiple times, hitting her neck and chest. I am sorry Atty., but Doctor Fuentes died at the scene due to excessive blood loss...”
They handed over a clear plastic bag. It was a set of jewelry with shining red rubies.
My mother’s signature set.
She believed that rubies are stones that can bring happiness and passion into the life of the wearer. Thus, her signature stone being ruby. I remember clearly how she would get ready in her vanity, with a smile on her face as she puts on her earring of shining red rubies. Ruby is a stone believed to protect the wearer from negative entities that leach positive energy, promoting spiritual vitality and wellness overall. My mother is an optimistic spirit. Her words are gentle and comforting; yet what am I now that those words of comfort could never be heard in the same voice ever again?
I collapsed, closing my eyes as a flood of tears gushed down my ashen cheeks.
My mother...is gone. I could never hear her voice, see her smile, and feel her warmth again. All was so sudden that I did not have the chance to say what I wanted to say to her. I felt a pang of guilt in me, it was like she died without knowing how much I loved her. Just like a nightmare, this is the horror that never wanted to happen in my life, yet it did. So many questions came to mind; my thoughts are distorted.
I felt a sharp sting in my chest, a puncture in my stomach, and a bullet through my head. I was in suffering.
“Ally be careful with your dosage! Are you even aware of the amount you intake?!” Hearing the voice of my father, I gradually opened my eyes. I look over to see my psychiatrist checking the bottle of pills. Was it all a vivid flashback?
I then realized how my thoughts took over my body. Driving home and seeing flashing city lights triggered the memories of my mother to flood my mind with thoughts of her tragic death. I felt tightness in my throat, rapid palpitations in my chest. I reached for my medication, unaware of the amount I am taking, hoping that it could relieve the choking sensation that silently suffocated me. With the sound of aggressive honking, I drove drained of strength and energy. Arriving home, my body began to respond to the side effects that came with my medication; It led to my slumber.
After being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, Dr. Torres prescribed me pills to cope with my sudden anxiety attacks. The death of my mother scarred me. My mother died in an ambush when I was 15 years old, almost 20 years ago. I am now 35 years old, a lawyer, a CEO, and a woman determined to grow my mother’s legacy. I know how sentimental the company is to my mother, so I continue to work hard to make what she started to flourish into a company she sacrificed for.
‘A goal without a plan is not a goal, it is only a dream.
- Dra. Amelia Fuentes.’
When she died, I saw how she still looked glowing. Although she died blood-soaked in a silk dress, her beauty was radiant. My mother is the woman that ensured to raise me with passion in all my works. She has left me with the knowledge that made me grow into the woman I am today. Her wisdom will forever remain with me; the most valuable gift she has ever given.
Even after 20 years, it still haunts me, yet I decide to focus on the path ahead of me, instead of longing for the past that I could never bring back. I may not be able to go back to the days we spent as a complete family, but I gradually accepted that my mother is now home in the heavens. Her presence is something I have been longing for ever since she left. I would even hallucinate seeing her in events, imagining her voice of greetings, her smile of an angel, and her gentle touch.
She is now an angel that continues to protect my father and me from this selfish world. I may not feel her warmth anymore, but I feel her presence.
"My mother will forever be the source of my tranquility.
She will forever be my angel."

Revised Cradlesona Character Sheet
Because I got more ideas for my Cradlesona so :’)
Also I made a new artwork!! (I was trying to shade but it looked too ugly sooooooo)
Tumblr media
And here’s the updated character sheet!! (Also posting it now because I’m writing for the school event ongoing)
CRADLESONA CHARACTER SHEET
Basic Info:
Name: Angel Burnham
Nickname: None; call her Angel
Birthday: December 12
Age: 22
Height: 150cm
Blood Type: O+
Physical:
Eyes: Her right eye is a natural dark brown color. Her left eye, however, is a mix of colors that resemble a galaxy. It used to be the same brown color as her right eye until she first performed magic. When using magic, both her eyes take on the galaxy colors. Nobody knows why this is the case, although Angel has a feeling it’s because of her heritage.
Hair: Dark brown hair; in some angles, it looks black, while in others, it looks brown
Accessories: Two rosary bracelets on her left wrists and a St. Benedict’s ring on her left middle finger
Features: Other than her left eye, nothing too significant
Illnesses: Aside from allergies to most seafood except fish, none
Social:
Affiliation: Neutral initially, Red Army after two months
Occupations: Originally worked as a waitress in a cafe, but days after she discovered her magic, she was recruited by the Red Army to help them in the war
Relationships:
Blanc and Oliver: These two were the first people Angel met when she first arrived in Cradle. Blanc had been nothing but kind to her while Oliver was more merciless with his words; nevertheless, Angel was able to get along with both of them. Blanc had even given her a tour around Cradle. Angel stayed in their home for a few days until she requested to stay in another place. Blanc and Oliver also helped her find a job.
Fenrir: Fenrir and Angel became immediate friends when he stopped by Blanc’s house. He even gave her a food tour around Cradle. Fenrir found out her new home when he visited the cafe she worked in and since then, he has made occasional visits. He was there for Angel after she learned about her magic and also helped her move out of her apartment after she was recruited by the Red Army.
Lancelot: Angel found him intimidating. She even disliked him for not allowing her to go out of Red Army HQ on her own. However, after finding out about what he had to go through to keep Cradle (and her) safe, she realized he is actually kind.
Jonah: Angel found him very attractive the moment she first saw him during her tour around Cradle. She saw him eating mille-fueille while having a lunch break in another cafe and found it really endearing. When she was made to serve the Red Army, Jonah was assigned to be her (main) bodyguard. They grew closer because of it.
Edgar: Angel found him sketchy, despite his kindness to her. Much to her annoyance, Edgar teases her about her crush on Jonah. However, when he teases Jonah, she either enjoys the show or joins Edgar. Sometimes, if Jonah is really busy, Edgar takes the role of bodyguard.
Kyle: Angel likes his chill personality, especially since she grew up in a lax environment. Kyle has brought her out to the bar he goes to twice. The first time went off without a hitch. The second time, however…
Zero: Because of his quiet nature, Angel doesn’t know him that well. They do talk about their annoyance towards Edgar. If Jonah and Edgar aren’t available, Zero is her third bodyguard.
Personality:
Angel has Filipino and Cradle blood. She was born and raised in 21st century Philippines, having a pretty decent life with a loving family, enough sustenance, and (as decent as it can get) WiFi. Although her elementary and high school taught her, Angel isn’t particular about manners. She can act properly if necessary, but she prefers to let loose and be chill.
When you first meet her, you might be intimidated by her serious expression. However, once you try to talk to her in a friendly way, you actually see she’s really friendly and great to talk to. She’s particularly energetic if you talk about similar interests, such as Pokemon, TwoSetViolin, etc. (sadly no one in Cradle knows about those things). While Angel likes to chat, she is an introvert and can get tired easily during hangouts.
Angel is generally a relaxed person. She would rather go with the flow than organize things because for her, things become messier if she does plan it. She acts chill around people, never trying to get mad at anyone because for her, it makes it much easier in the long run. This is also because Angel hates conflict and problems and would rather stay away if she can.
However, in unfamiliar settings, Angel gets very tense. If she is made a leader, she gets easily nervous and can break down. She wishes that she was more confident, however, so she can be someone people can look up to. In very familiar areas, however, she has more confidence, to the point she can seem arrogant.
Because of her relaxed nature, Angel tends to laze around and not finish whatever projects she herself started on unless there are more people involved in it. This also causes her to not have many passions for things. However, she has two things she really likes: astronomy and music. Stars always make her feel better and she gets excited over space. As for music, she is a pianist and a flutist. Music is the one thing where she feels confident and very much like her ideal self. After discovering magic, however, she had a rocky relationship with it for a while. Angel also likes maths, writing, and drawing, partly because it makes her feel smart but mostly because she likes doing it. She tends to get lazy with those three, however.
Angel is also an honest person, never one to tell a lie. She can also be blunt, especially when the situation calls for it. She is also a very loyal friend, not wanting to turn her back and hurt them.
Deep down, she hates herself to the point where every time she’s asked what positive quality she thinks she has, she wouldn’t be able to give a response. She wants to be good enough for people to even want and appreciate her but feels like she isn’t. Sometimes, she feels like telling someone but she fears she’ll burden them.
Because of this low self-esteem, she attempts to raise it up by counting her blessings every day. Occasionally, this causes her to be arrogant in a way, but she really doesn’t intend for it to be that way. This awareness of her arrogance tends to attack her ego, bringing her self-esteem back down.
Family and History:
Angel is actually from the 21st century who recently graduated from college with a degree in music. While walking back to a condo her family owns, Blanc bumps into her and drops his pocket watch, which she picked up. The rest is history.
Angel’s family is actually a mix of two worlds. Her mother was a Cradle citizen, born into a family of magic users, while her father was from the Land of Reason. Her mother, dared by her friends, entered the Garden on the full moon via teleportation and accidentally ended up being transported to 21st century Earth, where she met Angel’s father and fell in love. They hid this from Angel and her other siblings and she only found out during a chance encounter with her mother’s parents. Because of the magic and resistance to it being passed down, she inherited both abilities, which are most powerful in music.
Skills and Special Abilities:
Magic: Angel can cast magic like typical magic users. When she uses magic normally, it’s far from the power of magic users such as Lancelot and Harr. However, when she plays piano or flute, her magic becomes much stronger, possibly stronger than the aforementioned two. Using it, however, can cause fatigue, fever, and even fainting.
Magic Resistance: Due to her roots in the Land of Reason, she also has the ability to nullify magic, making her one of the most powerful people in Cradle– and a target. Strangely, when she makes TwoSetViolin references, her magic nullification ability is more powerful. (It was how she even found out about her magic resistance. She remarked “iNtErEsTiNg” once and the nearby lights went off. The crystals in the light bulbs were newly installed.)
Pianist: She has a decade and a half worth of experience.
Flutist: While not as experienced with the flute (only having played it for around 5 years), she can still play it.
Writing: She writes in her spare time.
Drawing: She’s less confident in her drawings and would rather not show them to anyone. She does draw in her spare time.
Paired with: Jonah
Life in Cradle:
Angel just recently graduated from college when she first encountered Blanc, who bumped into her. Blanc seemed very antsy and, after apologizing to her, ran off. He dropped his pocket watch, however. The same thing that happened to Alice the Second occurred, except Blanc actually was nearby when Angel was falling to 19th century Cradle.
The portal closed immediately after Blanc caught Angel, so she was trapped in the unknown world.
On the first days staying in Cradle, Angel was nervous, even with Blanc and Oliver helping her. Often, she was reminded of how tense she was.
During one of the days Blanc showed her around, Angel saw a troop of Red Army soldiers, being led by Jonah. Angel found him attractive and kept glancing at him.
Eventually, Angel asked Blanc if she can get a job and her own living space, since she didn’t want to burden him. Blanc helped her find a job as a waitress in a cafe and got her an apartment to stay in.
She found out about her magic nullification abilities when she moved in to her apartment.
For two months, she carried a rather mundane life as a worker in a cafe. There was a day when, during break, she ate in another cafe at the same time as Jonah (and found him cute as he ate his mille-fueille).
A few days after the news of the former King of Hearts being assassinated was announced, Angel was eating out with some friends from work. The restaurant had a piano, so she decided to play Sonata Pathetique mvm. 3. Midway through the piece, she heard screams and shouts of pain. That was when she found out that she was unleashing magical attacks through her playing and started to panic when she realized her hands were moving on their own. That was when an explosion occurred.
She was brought to Kyle thanks to Oliver. She was the only one who survived the fiasco, which was dubbed the Night When Death Sang. She also found out her left eye changed color.
Because of the fiasco, she was fired from her job.
She encounters her Cradle family by chance near the fountain in Central Quarter. They bring her to her house and decide to teach her how to control her magic.
A week later, Red Army declared war on the Black Army. The next day, they faced off. Angel was nearby when it happened and was praying in her head for nothing bad to happen. That was when she accidentally repelled Lancelot’s magic, confusing everyone. It was enough for Blanc and Oliver to arrive and stop the conflict.
Two days after the face-off, Edgar finds Angel in her apartment, taking her to the Red Army HQ. There, Angel is made to serve the Red Army by using her magical abilities against the Black Army.
Because of what she did at the restaurant, however, Lancelot orders his officers to be Angel’s bodyguards whenever she goes out. Jonah is her main bodyguard.

Confessions of an armchair journalist
MY THIRD article for the day involves a scuffle between President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo. The chief executive is insisting to have the latter take charge of his anti-drug campaign. The veep, backed by her vocal supporters, takes time to accept the random offer. If her retaliation was quicker and had read something like, “Bring it on,” there would be less room for the DDS to call her “duwag,” “tamad,” “Leni lugaw,” et cetera. I weave together the statements of the two highest officials of the land while munching on some stale pan de sal at my office in Mandaluyong.
I could call it a day except I am running late to a story conference for my other job. I prepared more than five story proposals just in case my executive producer comes in late again: Brexit delays, Trump’s looming impeachment, the Hong Kong turmoil, the simultaneous unrests in Chile, Lebanon, and Bolivia, and the deadly earthquakes that jolted parts of the Philippines just so I could squeeze in my corner of the world to the weekly global newscast I produce for.
I should be going home after securing my story assignments for the show, but I have so far pleased only three out of four bosses. That’s how my Wednesdays go: I cry a river of digital content while producing a morning talk show, scour for raw news clips from the Associated Press’s video bank, and then play a virtual tug-of-war on Viber with my anchor for a radio show that airs on Saturdays. Sometimes I wonder how I get things done and still manage to sleep, and then I remember I am just in the comforts of a dim-lit, airconditioned, rumored-to-be-close-to-bankruptcy office.
The jobs I juggle as a fresh graduate are a stark contrast from what I envisioned. While close to a thousand students belted the university hymn on our graduation day, I was busy daydreaming of seeing my byline on any of the three major dailies in the country. I have always wanted to become a print journalist. It was probably an inherited interest from my father, who unfortunately died too early to stop me from walking the same dangerous path he did. But I had constantly convinced myself that the mole on my right foot meant the Lord had pre-assigned me to scrape the field for exclusive stories, except my mother would say it only symbolized my being “layas.”
I left the office just before the sun flirted with the gigantic “M” that points to McDonald’s. My condo unit is just roughly 100 steps from the fast food chain. I got myself some burger and fries before proceeding to the dilapidated building I call home.
“Wahaha di mo kc kaya LENI LUGAW.. BBM is real vp..”
“Kapag hindi effective ang war on drugs ibig sabihin di ito umepekto XD di b Leni Lugaw?”
“Tatay digong we love u here from Saudi.. ”
My article this morning has so far lured some two hundred comments, most of them written by seemingly the same person. I would educate all of them about ad hominem, or at least how to type like a human being, but that would be beyond my pay grade. I devoured my evil combination of a meal and then browsed further into the deepest parts of my company’s Facebook page. By deepest I mean the troll department, or the comment section, or the wrestling ring where Duterte devotees, the dilawans, and those neither make the most of their internet connections defending their political patron saints. I scanned the whole thing, made faces, then decided to call it a day.
***
I came unusually early for the feature talk show I write for the next day. It was one of the few episodes we tackled something newsy, hence close to my heart. We had a former Agriculture secretary clashing with the department’s current spokesman. I have been writing about rice farmers’ plight under the heavily-criticized rice liberalization law for months now. After the hour-long banter, my anchor proceeded to pooling his staff together to talk about the story outlook for the week. No praise, or at least mention, of this morning’s newsy episode. I do not think my anchor is journalist enough.
But neither am I.
Early into college, I encountered the term “armchair journalism” from my news writing professor, who was probably the most grumpy and aggressive person to introduce the term to aspiring newsmen like me. He passionately bashed the practice, saying journalists should not be labeled one sans direct interaction with sources, or the scorching heat in the field, or the slim chance of exhausting an exclusive off pressers in this era of pack journalism. It was among the few lectures that stuck to me after graduation, precisely because I had vowed to dodge it the best way I could. Except here I am now—writing hundreds of stories without meeting my sources in flesh.
Do not get me wrong, I am all for the upgraded accessibility and convenience courtesy of the fast-changing media landscape. Plus, my current job definitely puts food on the table. But although I am always just a bold decision away from taking on a fieldwork, I dread the lack of financial safety net that everyone—literally everyone in the print industry I am friends with right now—has been warning me about. After all, journalism is public service. What matters most is how it drives a society into acting on pressing issues.
I dressed up the last few paragraphs of my article on the Duterte-initiated drug war’s new czar, pacified my radio anchor who kept insisting his Tokyo car show tour was newsy, updated my LinkedIn profile, then took the last sip of my Starbucks staple.

Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: A Magnificent Journey of Italian Art and Culture in the Philippines
The Philippines is hosting an international tour of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling paintings, showcasing high-definition pictures. According to Bernie Franco (2023), the exhibition located at the Estancia Mall in Capitol Commons, Pasig City, allows visitors to view the artwork at eye level, showcasing divine figures and expressive faces. Italian art has been renowned for its universal and timeless design contribution to modern society. And it shows with the inspiration design of Crown Asia's properties. Crown Asia's Condo in Las Piñas, Hermosa, is close to the exhibit as well.
Before diving more into the cultural significance of the Renaissance Art Movement in the Philippines. This article will explore an in-depth analysis of the life and artwork of one of the legendary artists of the Renaissance Period, Michaelangelo.

China Adventure
by: KIMSON JUDE T. DE LAS ALAS
Day 1 Philippines  – China
From Legazpi, our family took a private car going to Iriga. We went there to fetch our cousin going to Manila. We took private car. We slept at the car and the moment we open our yes we were already in Manila. Of course traffic was really exhausting. Everyone was tired. Even my butt hurts a lot because of almost sitting down for almost 12 hours. When we arrived at our condo, we rest for a day. Everyone was excited because on that day, we are finally heading to the airport.  We arrived early at the airport. It was 5 am because our flight is at 7:30 am. Everyone was patiently waiting, our parents checked in our luggage and other staff.  While waiting for our parents, we ate our breakfast at the hotel. I was amazed because there is a television on the plane at the same time I was surprised because there is a tracker, we can easily locate if we are near or far from Beijing Airport. Finally, we arrived safe and sound. I was really happy because it was my first time in China. I never felt happy knowing that I am Chinese and it is my first time to be in China. When we landed I thought that it was a sunny day but when we stepped outside it was really cold. I ask my ate to give me my jacket at night we saw the great wall of china in the dark because there was lights. We ate dinner at a restaurant and when we went out of the restaurant it was so cold. We went for a walk and since it was getting late so we asked the tour guide how far are we and he said 30% so we asked him if we could go back to the hotel to get some sleep and I think he said yes so we went into our rooms and went to bed.
Day 2 China Great wall of China
I was amazed of how the people in china live. Their houses were made out of concrete stone and strong wood and I was also shocked to know that The Great Wall of China was made in the Qin Dynasty. We tried walking up and my cousins made it up but I didn’t, I was kinda close. It was kinda steep and it was harder to climb down the stairs and we used a zipline capsule thing to actually get to the great wall of china. After we went down the great wall of china we hopped on a mini bus and went to eat lunch at a restaurant we went back to the hotel to rest a little bit and after toured around and at night we went to another hotel and checked in, ate dinner, went in our rooms and got prepared to go to sleep.

Day 3-5 Touring around Bei Jing
We went to the forbidden city and you might ask what is the forbidden city it was the imperial palace and the political heart of China during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). Now, also known as the Palace Museum, it’s a top attraction throughout China.  oh and it is constructed from 1402 to 1420 which means now   it is 600 years old and it is a very large it runs 753 meters (823 yards)  from east to west, and extends 961 meters ( 1,051 yards ) from north to south and it has an area of 72 hectares so we walked a lot. Well we didn’t walk through all the parts of it but a lot of the parts and you can see a lot of exquisite decorations there. After we went to eat lunch we continued touring and after we went to eat at a restaurant and went back to the hotel and went to sleep. The next day we toured around the city. We went to the temple of heaven and we got in and we walked around I was amazed of the buildings and we saw some trees that were more than a hundred years old. It was a tiring day but it was full of fun and adventure. On our third day in Bei Jing, we went to where the 2008 Olympics where it was held. It was a surreal experience. I felt like we were on the 2008 Olympics as walk through the stadiums. It was very big. After touring around, we bought souvenirs for our friends and family so after we went to a restaurant to eat dinner and we went to our hotel. As we head to the hotel all of us were excited because we were going to shanghai at the next day.

Day 6-7 touring around shanghai
We prepared for another adventurous day. Same routine ate our breakfast, went to the train station, hopped in the bullet train. It was a very cool experience for me because the train was really fast. It was about 350 km/h.  During night time, I was amazed with the lights. We saw one of the tallest buildings in the world. Yes! Indeed, it was really tall. We were all happy. After we went to the hotel to take a rest. On the next day, we prepared ourselves. It was a fun experience because I met some new friends. Sad to say I wasn’t able to ask his name. They are actually brothers. We talk and play for a bit. After we head top the restaurant. It was really cool because it spins. It is a revolving restaurant. One of the most memorable experience was Me and my cousin were lost in the restaurant. Terrified we were, good we are together that time. I couldn’t imagine myself if I were alone that moment.  We were just lucky that our parents found us.  After we went to a carnival and saw a big ball and motorcycles would go around the ball it was cool. After we went to eat dinner and went back to the hotel and take a rest.

Day 8 going to Shanghai Disneyland
We were excited for this day. This is the most awaited part of our tour. When we arrive try the different ride. There are many people at the Disneyland because it was Holiday The line was really long. We only managed to ride 2. I was really excited to ride the TRON but I wasn’t qualified because I wasn’t able to reach he height limit. I was really sad because that ride has a speed is 60 miles per hour or 97 km/h. After we ride on motorcycle like vehicles. It was fast, I really wanted to back out but it was too late. It already started. I just enjoy the fun ride. It was sometimes scary so I just close my eyes for a bit. The other ride was a slinky dog. It was not that fast but its ok. After we watched a movie. After a very thrilling, adventurous and fun experience at the Disney land we went to our hotel. I must agree that Disney Land is the most wonderful and happiest place on earth.

Day 9 going to manila
I was kinda sad because we were going back already. I still wanted to tour but mom told me that it was fine. We went to the train station and soon we went inside another bullet train. My dad’s friend was actually an engineer. He said that he wanted to have this kind of train in the Philippines. The train would only take 3 hours from Legazpi to Manila. When we arrive at the airport, it was a bitter sweet feeling for us. We said goodbye to our friends in China. I took a nap in the plane and the moment I open my eyes, I was in the Philippines. Welcome Back. Lot’s of love. See you in my next blog. XoXo KIMSON
