Miles Edgeworth's Secret
This post is purely for documentation purposes, and also to inform anyone who may not be aware. This post will contain SPOILERS for the end of Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations, so proceed with caution.
Tumblr media
During Case 5, Bridge to the Turnabout, while playing as Edgeworth, you are presented the opportunity to peer into Iris' heart. Specifically in regards to a secret she is withholding from Phoenix, someone she was romantically involved with. During which, if the player fails to present the correct evidence specifically for the second Psyche-Lock, an interesting conversation concerning the nature of secrets occurs.
I have seen talk of this dialogue, but no footage or screenshots, so I took the liberty of getting them myself. The full conversation and my further thoughts will be found under the cut.
You MUST present incorrect evidence during the second Psyche-Lock. This dialogue is laughably easy to miss, which is why I could find zero footage of it. (Sorry if the formatting for this sucks)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Interesting to note: the music stops playing here.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Incidentally, Iris' secret is that she developed romantic feelings for Phoenix while dating him in college (disguised as her twin sister). Edgeworth affirms her thoughts, confirming that he does indeed have a secret of similar nature deep within his heart and soul; "It takes one to know one." It cannot be said what exactly this secret of his is, but every real plot point behind Edgeworth has been more or less resolved by this point in the series. He found his path as a prosecutor, the truth behind his involvement in the DL-6 incident was concluded, so... What's left? Reading between the lines, this only really seems to lead us to one answer. It has something to do with romantic feelings. I truly can't see it being anything else, even with a critical mind.
Just mere moments ago, Iris had inquired as to what Edgeworth and Phoenix' relationship was. Edgeworth (famously) responds that Wright is a "dear and indispensable friend". Wonder if Iris gleamed something deeper from that comment, then? ;P Keep in mind: she makes these comments directly because Edgeworth avoided presenting Phoenix Wright's profile.
"he just like me fr" - iris probably
Now, just for completion's sake, let's see what happens when you present Phoenix's profile and break the Psyche-Lock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a lot of thoughts regarding this string of text from the two of them. This is a huge reach from an admittedly shipper-crazed brain, but aren't Edgeworth's retorts here... interesting? He does not know this girl, but he knows that the two of them are important to one another. We can assume it's likely that he is pushing for this for Wright's sake, rather than Iris'. At this point it's fair to say that Edgeworth has some basic understanding of her secret (the feelings, at least), and he doesn't benefit from her telling Phoenix her secret. So why is he adamant that she does it? Especially when he's, apparently, holding a secret of similar nature himself? Projecting, perhaps?
"But it's pointless..." "Why would you say that?"
Why indeed.
(EDIT) I was thinking about this feverishly, and I had another thought. What if the "darkness in his heart" and his "secret" has something to do with jealousy? Still in context of romantic feelings... it starts to make sense that this could fit into the puzzle as well. By this point it was already established to Edgeworth that Phoenix and Iris share an intimate connection of some kind, and with all of this pressuring (including the words the two of them share before Edgeworth leaves the Detention Centre), it sort of adds up. "Uncovering the truth" in order to "get rid of the deep-seated darkness in [his] heart" - could this refer to closure? As in, if Iris comes forth to Phoenix Wright with her secret, and there is some level of reciprocation, would this make Edgeworth's own secret/feelings "pointless" to confess? I wonder.
One last note I'd like to make is that this is the first time we view Edgeworth through the 'protagonist lens', and that a great deal of care was put into having the player truly feel like they are Miles Edgeworth in this moment. His mannerisms, choice of words and thought patterns are decidedly very different than Phoenix's when you are in control of them, as I'm sure most people would agree. Therefore, I feel comfortable proposing that a lot of what he says here isn't filler, and in fact is very deliberately worded.
I think this post also deserves a spot here.
Diehard Narumitsu/Wrightworth shippers are likely already aware of this conversation's existence. However, due to the circumstances necessary to see it, I wasn't able to find any screenshots. I hope this was interesting to read, at least... Thanks for reading!

phoenix & miles defending you in court together
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: phoenix wright x gn!reader x miles edgeworth
tags: love triangle, angst with a happy ending, rivalry
Tumblr media
miles was a prosecutor and not a defense attorney, but he was willing to work for the opposing side for once, when you were the one being accused of murder!
or rather, miles was still the prosecutor in your case, but was working together behind the scenes with phoenix, exchanging information!
both of them knew about the other one's crush on you and while they usually would've worked alone, they were willing to go against their usual tactics, if it meant helping you!
as much as they might've want to show off and be the one saving you in the end, that type of behaviour would only make defending you more difficult
just for this one case, phoenix and miles put aside their rivalry, to make sure you'd get out of this, no matter what!
as someone who knows the two of them well, it becomes clear quickly that they are working together, as no updated autopsy reports show up during this trial, nor does miles press phoenix too hard
it almost seems as if phoenix already knows the answer to every question miles asks him, as if they practiced this…
miles doesn't even seem upset when phoenix ends up winning the case! you could swear there's even a small smile on his lips, almost as if he's reliefed…

Taka post because I cannot stop spinning that bird in my brain like a deli chicken. Kept spoilers to a minimum where I could - this list only focuses on Taka with minimal detail elsewhere, though minor spoilers for Case 6-4!
Taka is based on a type of bird in the genus Accipiter. This encompasses 49 species of hawk, but Taka himself is most likely a Eurasian Sparrowhawk or Goshawk due to the franchise originally taking place in Japan (note the similar markings & patterns on their feathers!)
Taka's cry is most similar to a Red-tailed Hawk. You might recognise it's call from film and other popular media! It's iconic screech is often dubbed over a Bald Eagle (which don't sound nearly as hardcore - look them both up if you have the time!)
Takagari - the practice of falconry in Japan - was a popular sport amongst samurai. Simon Blackquill being the "Twisted Samurai" he is, his owning of a hawk only cements the ye-olde samurai vibes.
His localised name, Taka, is literally the Japanese word for hawk.
His original Japanese name, Gin, could either be a play on a Japanese word for a piercing ringing noise or a Japanese word for the metal silver. It's romanised form is also only one letter away from his owner's first name, Jin.
Taka lives in the courthouse according to Simon Blackquill. He appears to make his home in Courtroom No. 4, where every trial Blackquill is present for takes place. The one exception is the second trial in Case 5-4, which takes place in Courtroom No. 5.
Coutroom No. 4 is also the room where Wocky Kitaki's trial was held in Case 4-2. Taka obviously did not make an appearance there, however, implying he either minds his business when Blackquill isn't present or only made a home there when Blackquill returned to prosecute in the following year.
Across all of Dual Destinies, Taka has attacked Apollo Justice, Phineas Filch, Phoenix Wright, Athena Cykes, Aristotle Means, and Bobby Fulbright. He has used the Judge as a perch on multiple occassions.
Taka emotes along with Blackquill in their animations; he's surprised when Blackquill slams the desk with one hand, chuckles to himself when Blackquill laughs, and threatheningly leans towards people he and Blackquill are upset at.
Blackquill shows open affection towards Taka, petting him during trials with a loving expression on his face & stating that Taka is as human in spirit as himself or anyone else.
Case 5-DLC implies that Bobby Fulbright is responsible for caring for Taka while Simon Blackquill is in prison. Blackquill goes so far as to make a phone call to "Fool Bright" to ensure he feeds Taka.
Several lawyer characters have "reading" poses where they hold a sheet of paper in front of themselves. Taka holds Blackquill's papers for him in his "reading" poses due to his shackles limiting what he can do with his arms.
Taka is intelligent enough to purchase items from a store and return them; in Case 6-4, Blackquill gives him money to buy camel buns in order to chase a potential lead during the trial.
Taka has made an appearance in-game in 6 cases; 5-2, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5, 5-DLC, and 6-4. The only trial in Dual Destinies he and his owner are absent from is 5-1. He is never seen during investigation sequences.
An audiodrama set during Dual Destinies confirms that Athena Cykes can hear emotions from Taka's calls, but they are not as clear as human emotions.
The same audio drama demonstrated Taka's intelligence again, with him trying to point the WAA lawyers to a crucial piece of evidence for his master's trial & playing along as "the Plummed Punisher" for a skit they put together to retrieve it.

⚖️ Phoenix Wright x Reader 🚲
For Phoenix, relationships were something that rarely appeared in his life. His infatuation ended sadly, so when he realized that he had fallen in love with you, he tried to properly sort out his feelings. He didn't want to find himself in a similar situation again, but pretty quickly he became convinced not only of his feelings, but also that you had mutual feelings for him
From the very beginning of your relationship, you tried to see each other often. You came to his office when you knew he was busy on another case. You brought him a snack and sometimes helped him put the office and documents in order. You knew that he was doing a lot to win the trial and prove the innocence of his client, which is why you tried to help him in the few ways that were available to you
You tried to attend all the court sessions where Phoenix represented the defense. Every time he saw you among people, he felt confident in himself. Your support gave him the belief that he could do anything, including prove the innocence of the defendant
Phoenix cherished your relationship and tried to protect you. He knew that you could be in danger, as Maya was, which is why he tried to protect you from it. The last thing he wanted was for his loved one to suffer because of his next job
👻 Maya Fey x Reader 🍔
Maya didn't have a lot of opportunities to have a relationship. She spent most of her life in her native village where everyone was familiar to her, almost her own family. She met you in Los Angeles. You were her other older sister and it was she who introduced you. You were able to find a common language quickly and often tried to meet when Maya came to town. The news of her sister's death was a great blow to both of you
You supported each other after Mia's death, becoming even closer than before. Maya lived in your apartment the whole time she was in town. She was calmer with you. Your relationship began with the fact that after winning in court, she kissed you in a fit of emotion. You were both embarrassed by it, but that was the beginning of your relationship
You often went on dates when you both had free time. She told you about what happened to her during the time that you didn't see each other. When she returned to the village, you tried to call, but she did not always have the opportunity to do so. You understood that her aunt might not react well if she found out about your relationship, so you didn't tell anyone from her family about it
You and Maya have been through a lot of difficulties together. You supported each other and helped each other. You took care of her, lifted her spirits and tried to surround her with love. Your feelings for her were sincere, as were her feelings for you
⚖️ Miles Edgeworth x Reader 🚘
Edgeworth has never had time to arrange his personal life. He spent a lot of time studying and then working. It was only when he rethought for himself what it means to be a prosecutor that he began to find time for a rare rest. One of such rare rest was a friendly meeting with Phoenix during which he introduced Edgeworth to you
You and Phoenix have known each other since university, but unlike him, you graduated from the Faculty of Arts. During your acquaintance Miles behaved calmly and restrained, but his heart was beating furiously. He fell in love with you at first sight. It was the first time he felt such feelings and they did not hide from the Phoenix
Phoenix sincerely wanted to help his friend and you to be together. He saw that you also liked Edgeworth, so he and Maya tried to help you see each other's feelings. Their plans didn't always work, but eventually you and Miles really started dating. He was insecure when it came to relationships, but he genuinely wanted to make you happy
For the first time Edgeworth was so happy. He had friends, a favorite job and a loved one. Next to you, he felt warmth in his chest and wanted to smile at him. He was genuinely in love with you and hoped that you could spend as much time together as possible
⚖️ Franziska von Karma x Reader ⚜️
Since childhood, Franziska has not thought about relationships. She was completely focused on her studies, striving to become perfect, as her father had told her. She had no friends and certainly no romantic relationships. She aspired to become the best prosecutor no matter what. However, when she came to Los Angeles to work there as a prosecutor while Edgeworth was not there, she met you
You have worked in court and you have often encountered Franziska. At first she treated you coldly, but she liked you. She treated you more gently than others, sometimes being embarrassed around you. You didn't mind talking to her. You were genuinely interested in communicating with her, especially when she told you about life in Germany
When she left for her homeland, the first time you corresponded, sending letters to each other. She would have been happy for you to come to her, but she understood that you had no serious reason to leave your native country. However, in another letter you wrote to her that you were planning to surprise her. She assumed you were planning to send her a package, but she was wrong. You came to her in person. As it turned out, you were offered a job in Germany and you could not refuse the opportunity to combine the useful with the pleasant
She couldn't contain her feelings and hugged you tightly. She was glad to see you again. Now you had a lot of time that you could spend together. You had a lot of time to make sure of your feelings for each other and talk about them

I haven’t played all of AA4 yet but I was thinking a lot about how uneasy the first case made me feel (in a good way) and I finally figured out why. (AA 4-1 spoilers btw) Part of it of course is the overall scheme: what happened 7 years ago and what are the answers to all these unresolved questions. But I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen a more accurate depiction of how I experienced GAD and social anxiety than I have with Apollo Justice.
Thankfully, I have learned to stand up for myself and I’ve controlled the majority of my anxiety but I can very clearly see that Apollo has not done that, at least yet. I am hoping hoping hoping we get to see him grow in this game because I know that AA5 and 6 won’t do that justice (lol). All throughout the first case, Apollo rarely spoke for himself. He was very much a follower and wanted approval, ergo he was very easy to manipulate. Kristoph and Phoenix both recognized this about him and were able to both use Apollo as their own puppets. He followed Kristoph’s orders whenever he gave them (‘expose phoenix’s lies’ ‘don’t embarrass me’) but he also was very willing to follow Phoenix’s orders too (‘point on the map for us’ ‘name the fourth person/killer’ ‘accuse Kristoph’). He followed who he thought was seeking the truth but he had to be told that doing these actions was for the truth.
I never was manipulated in court like Apollo experienced, but I was VERY quick to abandon plans for something else or act in ways if someone told me to. I remember sometimes even saying yes to things that made me super uncomfortable because I didn’t think for myself and didn’t want to disappoint or make anyone mad. And you can tell that Apollo really looked up to both Kristoph and Phoenix in that trial. He wasn’t sure who to believe so he followed both simultaneously until at the end when he realized both were assholes. I LOVE the unease I felt during the first case. It felt so real to me how Apollo was able to be so easily manipulated and how that was able to be used as a very interesting way to set up a new game and protagonist.
It’s amplified especially if you played all the past Phoenix Wright games. Hell, I finished PLvsPW an hour before picking up AA4 and that really influenced how much I wanted to also follow and believe Phoenix. So I absolutely love how this trial was used not only to play with the heart and mind of Apollo, but the players as well. There’s less reason to follow Kristoph since the players don’t have the same bond Kristoph and Apollo have since this was our first time meeting him, but because he’s our boss and he’s standing at the defense with us like Mia has, that adds to his credibility. Which is even better that Phoenix took Kristoph’s spot behind the defense bench when Kristoph was summoned to the stand. “Don’t believe that other guy, look at where he is now. Believe me instead, the person who just left that same spot.” You want to believe him, it’s Phoenix Wright! Teaching us the ways just like Mia. But what he’s actually done is replace Kristoph as the supposed voice of reason in Apollo’s ear. Yes that’s the spot for mentors, but does every mentor have your best intentions in mind? Are you able to distinguish genuine advice versus motivated advice?
I am truly fascinated and captivated by the writing. You can tell how much Shu Takumi has grown as a writer compared to the original AA1. I am so excited to play the rest of this game.

Phoenix Wright but from the perspective of someone who's only consumed some klapollo content
Phoenix Wright Single Father and a well respected Attorney and every single co-worker he has is his adopted kid.
Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth is the guy he's secretly dating and they have some sort of Romeo and Juliet ass forbidden love in the courtroom during trials.
Maya Fey and Mia Fey are sisters and if they punched me I should thank them.
Trucy And Apollo are siblings but also they are super cool magicians and Klavier is a celebrity with a thing for guys with foreheads you can tic tac toe on.
I know absolutely nothing about the lore except Apollo has a lie detector bracelet

ok additional thoughts on 4-3..
it was very 🤯🤯 to learn that trucy has a "real father".... who i highly suspect to be shadi smith lol. it hasnt been stated explicitly whether this is her biological father or not and i still stand by the opinion tht wright isnt the type to adopt children he has no blood relation obligations to, so im still under the belief tht shes wright's biological daughter.. tho it wouldnt be super hard for me to believe tht shes actually not his bio daughter cuz wright having a child at 18 would be crazzyyyy. but yeah thats for case 4 to reveal to me so thts exciting.. oh and also im guessing mr. hat is modelled after zak gramarye, so valant = yellow, zak = blue, and trucy = pink/red like she was in tht cute little picture!
klavier's and apollo's relationship is sooo interesting to meee.. i really really like how its completely different from every relationship wright has had w his prosecutors. every prosecutor has been antagonistic to wright, but even tho klavier makes fun of apollo's forehead and is condescending to him in the court, hes still pretty respectful towards apollo. it was really cool how he entrusted apollo to incriminate drayan, it was very reminiscent of edgeworth's trust in wright during the engarde case. klavier is sooo interesting, like hes all here talking abt "finding the truth" which took our previous prosecutors like 2 whole games to reach that point, but klavier has already reached it here. i also liked how bratty and grumpy he was in the concert LOL and tht whole part in his office where hes like "i want to pursue simplicity :)" is so interesting and i bet will get unraveled next chapter hurhuahfksdj. hes so different in such a refreshing way and i really really enjoy it. i also like how nice he is to trucy, honestly its nice that everyone is nice to trucy! shes the games special girl and im glad we all treat her nicely!
and of course apollo has been so refreshingly different tooooo, it was typical game stupidity for him to leave the crime scene unattended but hey, he hasnt endangered trucy at any point so that has been a huge plus for me. i really like how deadpan and level-headed and 'serious' he is. its just really good character writing that he fills out the same role as wright but his personality is still very different. like wright was bizzare and apollo is not. but hes still as entertaining. also his confidence in the court was very coollll i really like this kid. and also its so neat to play as a protagonist whose the same age as me HAHA. and ive already said this but seriously him and trucy are so cuteeee together, maya and phoenix were the best of friends, but apollo is like looking after trucy and its just super adorable.
also at first i was very 🤨 at this case bc it took its time to point out my defendant was BLIND and short and also how could letouse have known lamiroir was a witness if he wasnt facing the small window, so i was irked during the 1st trial bc of this, but then it ended with a WOAHHH when lamiroir accused drayan and then the court started to get criticized and it was just soooooo gooddddd. oh and the part where i had to figure out how the magic trick worked was really funny bc i genuinely had no idea, and trucy knowing but not telling apollo was hilarious and so was the judge's insistence on learning how the trick worked 😭 i really liked that part! im very happy with the game so far and im super excited for the last case, cuz even tho turnabout corner kinda rushed its ending it was still a neat case and i liked alita's personality as a killer very much, all the cases have been very solid. and im excited to finally receive answers to the many mysteries of this game.. tho im a bit worried abt having the time and space to actually play it cuz eid is in like 4 days hejfkwehjkshdagjk but what happens happens!

Propaganda for Miles Edgeworth & Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney)
I came to submit this form after I saw that annon ask and I was like "yes they totally count I love that". They are so gay. And rivals to lovers. And they "fight" in the court room. I love them.
simultaneously badass and possessing sad wet cat energy at the same time. depends on how you look at them. i love them so much. the gay fuckin lawyers
theyre courtroom “rivals,” and in every game after the first ace attorney game, they actually do work together to try and find a verdict during trials. if i remember correctly, they also did investigate a murder together in the 6th game. might be wrong. anyways yeah i consider them a battle couple because they work together to find the truth.
They are literally childhood friends to (one-sided) enemies to best friends to lovers!!!!! They’re childhood best friends, then Edgeworth’s dad dies and he gets taken in by an awful man who moves him to Germany and he and Phoenix fall out of touch and don’t see or speak to each other for years!!!! Then Phoenix sees that Edgeworth has become a prosecutor and decides to become a lawyer to see him again!!!! Edgeworth meanwhile has become so obsessed with winning and broken inside, and Phoenix helps him get better and in later games they are just always ready to help each other if they’re asked!!!! Your honor they’re in love

I hope you won’t mind elaborating, please ignore this message if it makes you uncomfortable, but I am terribly intrigued by the correlation between shipping narumitsu and having attachement issues, and I would love to hear your thoughts - either on the pattern you’ve noticed, or on why you think one would lead to the other? Sincerely, a sceptical of the idea that our fictional preferences reflect who we are (who also just happens to ship narumitsu lol) (this is all /lh and /genuinely interested btw my signature is meant to be tongue in cheek not passive-aggressive)
this doesn't make me uncomfortable at all! in fact, i'm happy to elaborate. i would, however, like to start this by saying i meant the case majority of nrmt shippers, not every single one, so if this doesn't apply to you - honestly, great news for your future and present relationships with people.
anyways. when i started reading narumitsu fanfiction, i noticed a pattern. people tend to make the characters pass the "i will find you and help you" role like a hot potato between the characters depending on the time of the events in the fanfic - if it's feenie or aa1 era, phoenix is the one who writes endless letters and seeks miles out, if it's aa3-aa4, edgeworth is the one who flies across the ocean to see wright or helps him financially and emotionally during the disbarment. each time, that borderline obsessive behavior gets romanticized and turns into the basic formula of "i'm in pain, closed off and not who i really am - let me help you despite your constant refusals - okay i'm better now. i love you also". i don't mean to say it's inherently bad to write stuff like that or that it makes the relationship toxic, i'm simply hyperbolizing and making an overall point.
another thing about those fics is that the hurt/comfort is usually centered on the one who needs the comfort. if phoenix helps miles get over the turnabout goodbyes trial, holds him after an earthquake or saves him "again", it's usually a miles-centered fic, and the disbarment ones are a phoenix study. it can be the other way around, of course, but the ones described earlier made me have a realization.
as i've stated in my nrmt analysis post, what they would have had before turnabout succession is just... not that healthy in my eyes? not long term healthy, at least. so i feel like nrmt fans tend to have a warped sense of what love and relationships are, constantly defining phoenix and miles by what they do for each other and what they mean to each other, not by their individual growth. phoenix often gets too much credit for saving miles, miles gets assigned the role of the one who was always there during the 7yg and helped take down kristoph, etc. again, not bad!! just interesting.
and with all of that being portrayed as this big romantic thing, i just feel like the narumitsu fans can be divided into different groups. if you like phoenix-centered bratfeen and aa1-3 wrightworth, you are likely to disregard your emotional needs for the sake of another person, idealize then, and to have experienced parental neglect or betrayal and abandonment of some kind, which can lead to an anxious attachment style. the people who like aa1-3 wrightworth with explorations of miles and disbarment fics about phoenix might have an idea in their head that no one understands them and never will, have a tendency to isolate themselves and have an avoidant attachment style. it might get mixed up too. of course, this is no way scientifically credible or well-spoken, it's like two am for me, what am i doing. but anyway, with the way nrmt shippers practically tie these two together by their identities... yeah.
again. absolutely no shade or hate or anything similar. i'm a huge narumitsu enjoyer. i have 333 bookmarks on ao3 and god knows some of them are exactly what I described above. but a girl has to speak her mind.

My preconceptions of Ace Attorney before actually playing the games
[Based on the whole franchise rather than any individual games since I don't know what happens in what game specifically]
I only remember like 3 character names but it seems like everyone has the weirdest sounding names imaginable
Before checking if The Great Ace Attorney was on the switch, I thought it was a sequel series to Ace Attorney and that Apollo Justice was the protagonist but it turns out it takes place in the late 19th century so never mind on that
There’s something heartbreaking that happens just before Christmas even though this is meme by the fandom every year. I think someone important to the main cast dies or something
Refining my new take on Apollo Justice (since I was wrong about what The Great Ace Attorney was) is that he’s actually in the first series and he’s Phoenix Wright’s nephew (either biological, adopted, or a found family situation)
The magician girl is Phoenix’s adopted daughter and she’s bffs with Apollo Justice
There’s a racist vampire. I think he’s in TGAA but either this series is an urban fantasy or there just happens to be one vampire who’s there for some unknown reason and everyone rolls with it
Phoenix went to art school but discovered that his childhood friend Miles Edgeworth (whom he hasn’t seen in years) had enrolled in law school so he also goes to law school so he can catch up with him
There’s this one guy who has a huge mental breakdown from law school and he goes through major depression but his friends try to help him through it (I’m sorry I can’t be more specific I really don’t know any of these characters names, I just recognize him from angsty fan art my friend has drawn before)
This Tumblr post does a great job summarizing how I imagine Phoenix and Miles to be like during the trials https://pauladrawsnstuff.tumblr.com/post/720025716031356928/audio-from-themornal
This is less of a preconception and more of a wish. But, like in danganronpa v3, I really hope that there’s an option to lie in court cause that’d be so funny. Let phoenix have a little perjury as a treat
There’s straight up a dude named Herlock Sholmes. I really wish he was the protagonist of one of the games but I know he's a side character more than anything
It turns out that there is a trilogy for Apollo Justice so I was super wrong about him showing up in the ace attorney trilogy (I guess I have no idea who Apollo is in this franchise)
Apollo is somehow going to be the most normal protagonist not because he's actually normal but because everyone else is so much more ridiculously eccentric and weird
Oh my God is there a sentient magical hat named Mr hat??? Out of everything I most want this to be true. I'm begging (but for real is ace attorney an urban fantasy?? I thought this was about a normal ass lawyer??)
Omg one of the characters does the ghost trick death pose and I can't wait to learn these characters names cause I super don't know
There's some sort of martial artist who's part of the cast and I think hes quick to square up with people, like he has a super short temper except around his friends
Ace Attorney games 5 and 6 are straight up bad it turns out (I'm hoping these aren't part of the Apollo justice trilogy cause he looks like such a neat guy and he deserves everything good in the world)
Phoenix canonically calls Edgeworth "daddy" (this isn't a preconception, my friend straight up told me and this convinced me even more to play the games)
I know ace attorney predates ghost trick and danganronpa but I bet there's gonna be some of the most complex murder schemes known to mankind that'll be uncovered in the trials like the two games I mentioned (I have heard danganronpa described as ace attorney meets battle royale so I'm super stoked about the mystery investigation sections of aa)
I don't know how much later the Apollo justice trilogy takes place from the aa trilogy but phoenix is gonna pretend that he's not really phoenix and there's gonna be some big plot twist where reveals himself and he tells Apollo how proud he is of him to solve a near impossible case

What do you think is every WAA member's favorite Halloween Candy (answer carefully your life depends on it)
I'm a day late but why not!
Phoenix Wright: Grape-flavoured Nerds. Anything to ween himself off the juice now that he's back on the job. Might get a kick out of those powder dip candies, if only because he gets to spook Apollo with "white powder" all over again.
Trucy Wright: Twizzlers. Both because "teehee bendy edible magic wands" and having a whimsical name I think fits her well. Whether she eats them or not is another thing entirely. They probably get lost amongst the other magical props.
Apollo Justice: Milky-way. Space-themed and sentimental value to his bestie (this is very AA5-biased I'm sorry).
Athena Cykes: Is it orange-flavoured? Do you have orange-flavoured treats? Will you share your orange-flavoured treats? Candy apples too if you want a specific answer, that way she can say she's technically eating fruits and not just sugary garbage.
Charely: He is a plant.
Simon Blackquill (he brings jobs to them and shakes Athena's sticks during trials, he might as well work there): Honestly I think he'd rather give whatever candy he has to other people. Any black-and-white candies are prime ammunition for dark cannibalism jokes on his part.
My life is in your hands now.

Hey since you seem to have great taste in such things I was wondering if you had any Phoenix & Maya fics you could recommend 👉👈
SURE!!! some of these also include pearl and trucy because. family <3
kids who need saving (1.3k):
Maya gingerly stepped closer until she reached the middle of the cluttered room. She couldn't see what was happening on the other side until Nick stepped away, producing a small, timid child clinging to a pink cape.
“Uh, Maya? This is Trucy. She’s my—daughter.”
The little girl—Trucy—gave Maya a careful once-over, her eyes gliding from her socks and sandals to the stud earrings in her ears, and Maya felt pinned by the eight-old’s gaze. Her expression was blank, but Maya could see the contemplation stirring in her big round eyes. Nick seemed to notice, because he gently nudged her and whispered, “she’s good.”
And Trucy blinked up at her father, then back to Maya, and Maya realized that there were more kids who needed saving. Nick had seemed to realize it, too.
Wright and Co. Christmas Offices (5.6k):
Phoenix is determined to give Pearl a good Christmas this year. It goes better than expected, even if he's pretty sure he's going to have to set aside a 'Pearl Games' fund, now...
oceans and waves and wires (1.9k):
Before this week, Maya had really only channeled for maybe two or three hours at the absolute most. A whole twenty hours of unconsciousness rendered her completely disoriented and laughably weak until quite a while after her testimony had wrapped up. As Maya and Mia sat in the defendant’s lobby that morning during the recess, Maya nursing a ginger ale and Mia petting her hair, the older sister admitted that any longer probably would’ve resulted in a lot worse.
In spite of all this, if there’s one thing that can tide over a sour mood (or a raging migraine in Maya’s case), it’s a traditional post-trial Wright & Co. Law Offices afterparty, and Maya isn’t about to let that get taken away from her too.
A Time To Play (9.1k):
Nick takes Maya and Pearl on a day of fun and adventure around the city, trying to give Maya a chance to open up after all that's happened. Set post-Trials and Tribulations.
What You Cannot (3.3k):
Nick cries for Maya when she can't, when it is taking all of her strength just to carry on. Eventually Maya returns the favor.
Third Time Charmed (3k):
Maya visits the building for the "first time" three separate times. Whether it's housing Fey & Co. Law Offices, Wright & Co. Law Offices, or the Wright Anything Agency, it always manages to be just the opposite of what she's come to expect.
A Place To Rest Her Head (4.8k):
Maya thinks she's good at hiding when she doesn't feel well. But Phoenix knows her a little too well by now to know something's up.
name your courage now (11.8k):
There's an unspoken promise between Maya and Phoenix, dusty from where Phoenix picked up what Mia left off: if it's me or the truth - the truth, every time.
In the case of Iris of Hazakura Temple v. State, Maya's testimony is make-or-break. She knows what she has to do.
Not to Portray, but to Evoke (1.5k):
After learning that Phoenix went to art school, Maya and Pearl demand a day of painting together.
New Digs (3.3k):
Maya Fey has trouble sleeping. This is a known truth. The reasons behind it, though, are recent, uncomfortable, and best left alone.
Chip on my Shoulder (1.4k):
It is a lovely day in Los Angeles, and Maya Fey is a girl on a mission. It's nothing that illegal, of course! Is it even illegal? It's probably a little illegal.
But it'll be fun, and more importantly it'll be some great team bonding for the newly renamed Wright & Co. Law Offices, and—what the hell is Nick wearing?
Flurries and Phoenixes (11.3k):
Several months after Phoenix adopted Trucy, Maya has him bring Trucy up to Kurain to have some fun in the snow and get to know Pearl. Snow angels, snow phoenixes, and hot chocolate can't cure all the ills of the world, but they can certainly make them more bearable.
and, for fun, here's a super awesome casefic with phoenix, maya & pearl!! (+franziska!)
Turnabout Specter (76.8k):
Maya Fey has successfully launched the very first Kurain Village Cultural Festival, a celebration of the village’s culture and history! However, its success is short-lived, as (of course) a murder takes place on the festival grounds. With Phoenix Wright heading the defense of the suspect, of one of Kurain's acolytes, the trial that ensues will bring to light one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Fey clan, as its future becomes thrust into increasing uncertainty.

Assistant Clay Terran AU details/timeline (major aa4/5 spoilers): (there are brief timeskips in places where events don’t change)
-He still dreams of becoming an astronaut (but this gets delayed for whatever reason so he’s not officially part of the team by the time of the HAT-2 launch. Mr. Starbuck is still a mentor figure to him in this AU)
-Apollo has known about Clay’s unusual sense of smell from the beginning. It’s...not exactly a secret, but everyone assumes Clay’s speaking metaphorically and not literally when he says “something about that stinks”
-Clay works as a part-time model alongside studying/astronaut training. Apollo was helping him with job hunting in their early college years when he saw an ad for a modeling gig, and jokingly suggested Clay go for it (“I mean, you’re a handsome guy. if they didn’t take you I’d be shocked haha--”). Clay went for it
-To his surprise, the pictures gained a lot of attention and he became something of a local mini celebrity. He meets Klavier during a photoshoot they were both in, about a year and a half before Apollo runs into Klavier during his investigation. They quickly grow to be close acquaintances (not quite friends; they only run into each other during work but they hit it off pretty well in those few encounters)
-Apollo moves into Clay’s apartment shortly before he starts working at Gavin Law Offices, because it happens to be nearby. Clay thinks it’s just a coincidence that Klavier’s last name is also Gavin, as Klavier never mentions having a brother (no reason to)
-He misses Apollo’s first and second trials, due to a busy schedule (probably a good thing, because when Apollo tells him about the panties after the first day of investigating, Clay completely loses it for 5 minutes straight)
-Clay mentioned encountering the famous rockstar prosecutor Klavier Gavin but Apollo had been too focused on studying to remember the conversation. When they meet for the first time at People Park, Apollo doesn’t realize this is the guy Clay talked about all those months ago
-Apollo only describes Klavier as “some guy in purple”. Clay has a hunch but he says nothing about it
-After the day 2 trial, Apollo tells Clay the prosecutor was “that purple guy from yesterday. He’s kind of annoying and his hair’s in this weird drill braid or something” and Clay goes “Oh so it was KlavGav? He’s pretty cool” and Apollo spits out his drink
-In the month between Turnabout Corner and Serenade, Clay meets the Wrights. He and Trucy get along scarily well, to Apollo’s dismay (he calls Clay a magnet for chaos and the pair give Apollo the same sinister grin in response)
-Clay joins Apollo and Trucy at the Gavinners concert. When the murder occurs, he asks Trucy to let him assist Apollo instead. Klavier had been kind enough to give Clay a free ticket, and so he wanted to pay him back somehow--Trucy agrees on the condition that they at least let her stick around for the investigation
-Klavier learns about Clay’s weird ability to smell “lies” after Daryan leaves the hallway. He vehemently denies that Daryan could be suspicious, and Apollo says that all Clay means is that Daryan’s hiding something
-Clay and Ema get along surprisingly well, as he shows a genuine interest in forensic science and is more than willing to engage in conversation about it with her
-Between Turnabout Serenade and Succession, as Klavier considers disbanding the Gavinners, he becomes better acquainted with Clay and Apollo. Having little else to do, Apollo accompanies Clay to some of his photoshoots. By “coincidence,” Klavier happens to be there every time Apollo goes; they chat while Clay cycles through outfit after outfit. Klavier also gets invited to Trucy’s magic shows
-During Phoenix’s absence, Trucy stays with Clay and Apollo (at Clay’s suggestion, which Phoenix agrees to). In time, Trucy feels like a little sister to both of them. This is when Clay first volunteers to work backstage and move equipment for Trucy’s shows
-Clay is not present for the investigation of Drew Studio, but he hears about it from Apollo and watches the trial from the gallery. When Phoenix goes over his findings about the forged diary page and Kristoph, Apollo asks Trucy to let Clay take her place in the courtroom. It’s out of concern for her wellbeing, but she insists she can handle it. Clay proposes he joins both of them behind the bench--should anything happen to Trucy, he can support her
-Kristoph is the most unsettling man Clay has ever encountered. He deflects accusations without skipping a beat, and if he gets nervous, there’s barely a scent to pick up. He hates the condescending tone in Kristoph’s voice when he speaks to Klavier and mocks Apollo (maybe coming down from the gallery was a mistake--Trucy had been the one nudging him to keep him grounded despite his vow to watch over her)
-Moments before Apollo announces Shadi Smith’s true identity, Clay smells fear from Trucy. Although she urges Apollo to press on, Clay gives her a knowing look, to which she responds with a determined expression and watery eyes (soon after, he feels a gentle tug on the hanging sleeve of his jacket and sees it gripped tightly in her small hand)
-After the trial, Clay heads back to the apartment while Apollo and Trucy visit Vera. On his way out of the courthouse, before turning the corner, he hears Phoenix say “Take care, Thalassa” and sees a familiar woman walking away. When Phoenix realizes Clay is there and has put the pieces together, he asks him to keep it a secret. Clay tells him he can’t do that, and instead rushes out of the building to try and catch up to Lamiroir
-When he does, he tries to convince her to tell the truth to Apollo and Trucy. She agrees to accompany him to the hospital, and leaves after telling them the truth (not before Apollo storms out in disbelief to collect his thoughts, followed by Clay; and Trucy, while mostly understanding, is left conflicted on Apollo’s behalf. She eventually agrees that Thalassa should go, that they all need time to process things, but she thanks her for being upfront about her identity)
Dual Destinies:
-With Athena around, Clay only shows up for investigations/moral support in the gallery (he accompanies Trucy and Apollo to meet Athena in Monstrous Turnabout, and investigates with Klavier during Turnabout Academy)
-He gets an internship at the Cosmos Space Center at the end of May (a month after Monstrous Turnabout), and assists with preparations for the HAT-2 launch in December
-Trucy and Athena go clothes shopping with him every now and then. Sometimes they meet up with Klavier, sometimes Apollo tags along
-During his internship, Clay becomes well-acquainted with the astronaut set to participate in the HAT-2 launch with Starbuck: Sue Parr-Unova. She’s a boisterous but good-natured woman, whom Clay thinks of like an older sister
-Sue is severely injured during the sabotaged launch. At first, Clay bottles up his feelings and puts on a brave face. Apollo, aware of how much she means to his friend and knowing Starbuck couldn’t possibly be the culprit, takes the case. He tentatively asks Clay if he’d want to come with to investigate/assist, an offer that Clay hesitates to jump at (recalling his behavior during Vera Misham’s trial), but he accepts
-Clay joins Apollo and Athena at the bench for the trial, becoming suspicious of the whole incident when he learns that she feels uncertain in discussions about the knife (according to Apollo. Clay’s ability doesn’t pick up anything because she’s confused, not nervous)
-When the time bomb goes off, Clay gets injured after shoving Apollo and Juniper away. Apollo temporarily leaves the case in Athena’s hands while he goes to look for Juniper’s doll in the middle of Turnabout Countdown, leading to him getting attacked
-At the hospital Apollo swears to Clay that he’ll find the one responsible, for his sake, and that he should rest. Clay reassures Apollo that he won’t do anything rash, but the case bothers him too much and he insists on investigating despite his injuries. Apollo is unable to dissuade him, so he lets Phoenix know that he and Clay will be conducting their own investigation (this is after the 1st trial, ending in Athena being arrested)
-Clay expresses his thoughts about Athena--he believes she had nothing to do with the attempted murder, but all of the evidence so far has pointed to her. Apollo agrees, saying he suspects the Phantom disguised themselves as Athena to commit the crime (this isn’t what actually happens, it’s just their only possible theory)
-Unfortunately their search does little to prove their suspicions, agitating Clay, and even Apollo starts to get frustrated by the lack of a trail. They find Trucy back at the Space Center, right before Aura sets her hostage plan into motion (unintentionally preventing Trucy from being targeted)
-They also briefly run into Fulbright during the chaos, who says the whole situation’s got him feeling anxious, which immediately sets off both Apollo and Clay’s alarms (Apollo’s bracelet reacts, and Clay doesn’t smell anything at all)
-Their investigation doesn’t turn anything else up, so they meet up with Phoenix at the courthouse to discuss their theory, though he doesn’t have the evidence to prove the Phantom could have been the culprit either
-Apollo joins Phoenix at the bench, with Clay in the gallery fervently sifting through his notes during the trial. When Blackquill gives them the psych profile, Clay starts to piece together an idea and brings up the possibility of an alternate escape route to Apollo (by throwing a balled-up ripped note at him, but his aim sucks and he hits Phoenix instead. anyway-). This leads to an open discussion about the supposed escape route and Phoenix calling Fulbright to the stand
-Clay continues to watch the trial from the gallery with Klavier, whom Apollo called during the recess to keep him company. After Fulbright is taken away, he relaxes for the first time since the incident and cries
-Sue pulls through, although it’ll be a while before she can return to the Space Center. Clay finally fulfills his dream of becoming an astronaut some time after the trial, and cuts down on the modeling gigs (but doesn’t quit completely)
--------AA6 Minor Spoilers (Magical Turnabout)--------
Clay doesn’t play much of an active role in the events of SoJ, but he’s there for Trucy’s big show when it goes awry and participates in the investigation. Thalassa is also in attendance, and spends a lot of time at the detention center after Trucy is arrested.
Clay’s ability: -Clay’s nose is extremely sensitive to nervous/stress sweat, but with that alone he usually can’t deduce why someone’s worried. His effectiveness in detecting lies is between Trucy’s and Apollo’s--he can determine when a person starts sweating, but he can’t pinpoint the exact phrase like Apollo
-Clay and Apollo’s abilities overlap, but they still synergize because Clay can tell when someone’s keeping secrets even when they aren’t lying/before they even speak. He uses other context clues to determine if a person is just socially anxious or lying through omission (though in the case of witnesses it seems they’re always hiding something,)
-His ability comes most in handy when observing a witness (to later be found as the culprit) listening to the attorneys discuss the case, because they’ll sweat if they’re not confident they can get away
-This means Clay often suspects the true culprit long before anyone else, and he always tells Apollo the moment he catches the scent. They both know Apollo can’t indict someone they just met without solid evidence, so Clay uses his ability to help guide Apollo’s line of questioning during cross examinations (if necessary) in order to uncover the proof they need. It’s like a scent trail
-ex.: “Hey AJ, the smell got stronger when Prosecutor Gavin mentioned the cause of death just now. Think there’s anything you can ask about that?”

babbling about iris and a bit about dahlia bc they are awesomely awesome characters
iris is one of The characters ever like takumi accidentally wrote an amazingly compelling morally-grey female character but barely did anything w her (common trend with his characters)
Tumblr media
like this is an insane line that everybody just glosses over like.. dahlia's murder of doug swallow + attempted murder of phoenix wright is, by iris' own admission, the first time dahlia had ever acted out without iris' knowledge. and yes iris' line here can be interpreted specifically as "this was the first time dahlia's actions regarding phoenix weren't planned between dahlia and iris", but considering that:
1.) iris knew abt dahlia's faked kidnapping plot
2.) knew that dahlia had poisoned armando, and pretended to be dahlia to try and retrieve the necklace from phoenix in order to protect her
and 3.) hid the fact that she swapped places with a channelled dahlia at the sacred cavern,
im more inclined to believe that this line of hers meant that this is the first time that dahlia had ever acted out without iris' knowledge. which would then imply that every other scheme dahlia had carried out before this, iris has had knowledge of.. which honestly makes sense. like several of dahlia's crimes (faked kidnapping + murder of valerie) took place in close proximity of hazakura temple, and when u take this line into account, its more than likely that iris had played some sort of role in valerie's murder. like.. im sorry its just so mindboggling to me that so many ppl talk abt iris like she's the "good" twin or that she was threatened into helping dahlia bc like.... that just isnt true. if she was actually a "good" person, she wouldve let someone know that terry fawles was being framed, that dahlia had murdered valerie, and tht dahlia had poisoned armando and gave the evidence away to phoenix. cuz like what would dahlia hv done to her? shes a small woman whose preferred method of killing is poison, and even though iris had said this:
Tumblr media
dahlia's attempt to kill phoenix was a discrete attempt at poisoning, which relied on him being sick, and failed anyways. her murder of doug swallow was a matter of luck that a dangerous live wire was just dangling around, and her stabbing of valerie is well... lmfao its video game logic so ill ignore that. and also like, dahlia actually cares abt iris. its extremely unlikely she'd ever hurt her, and this is evident in the way that she had never once incriminated iris at any point. she couldve revealed tht iris had known abt the faked kidnapping, had known that she poisoned armando and was planning to kill phoenix, and yet she never does. during 3-5's final trial dahlia calls iris a nuisance and a backstabber, but yet never once does she reveal the extent of iris' complicity. the most she does is privately reveal to phoenix that iris had known abt the faked kidnapping. and she only does this as a channelled spirit, who now harbors a degree of resentment towards iris for her 'betrayals':
Tumblr media
but when dahlia was alive? what would she hv done to threaten iris? the most plausible thing she could do is maybe threaten the safety of sister bikini, but yet this possibility is never mentioned at any point. what is more likely is that iris wasnt being threatened into helping dahlia out, and instead helped her out of her own volition bc she loved and cared for her in spite of everything:
Tumblr media
and this would also then make this other crazy line from iris make much more sense:
Tumblr media
iris, knowing full and well that dahlia cared deeply for her, would use her own well-being as a bargaining chip to protect phoenix. basically, "if you try to kill phoenix i will Kill Myself." and also the fact that she admits that she considered killing her own sister like... DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A "GOOD" TWIN TO YOU??
and say even if iris was being threatened by dahlia... she still continues to keep quiet about everything, even after shes incarcerated and has no means to hurt her. never once does iris reach out to phoenix and tells him "yeah sorry but i was lying to you for 6 months". even when phoenix is right in front of her face, she still doesnt admit this to him. and then she goes on to cover up another murder, this time at the hands of godot, and continues to lie to not just phoenix, but other members of law enforcement. and when faced with dahlia, who is being channelled by maya.. she still chooses to help her, aiding her in deceiving everyone:
Tumblr media
oh and did i also mention that she um.. BRUTALLY DESECRATED HER AUNT'S CORPSE...?!?!?
like it really drives me nuts how ppl say that she's the opposite of dahlia, that shes her better half. cuz shes really... really not. shes been an accomplice of dahlia for god knows how long, having kept quiet about her various killings and poisonings, deceived phoenix for 6 months and let him believe for 6 whole years that the woman who loved him was also the woman who tried to kill him, had considered killing her sister, tried to cover up a murder, helped her dead sister deceive everyone, and desecrated her aunt's corpse. and shes an amazing character for that!!! iris is just as dark-hearted as dahlia, and the only difference is that she never took the plunge and took someone's life, though she does admit to having considered doing that. but still, she is an accomplice all the same.
both her and dahlia love each other, but hold feelings of resentment and remorse towards one another. dahlia feels betrayed by iris, and iris knows this. also this post puts this aspect of dahlia's character into words much better than i ever could, so let me just snag it and put it over here:
Tumblr media
in order to reduce iris into this "good twin threatened by her evil twin", it requires a disregard and flanderization of both iris' and dahlia's character. and considering how much this fandom loves to beat down dahlia and regard her as this cartoonishly evil character, its no wonder that iris' character is similarly oversimplified; bc people love to make dahlia = bad, then iris must be good! well BZZZT Wrong! both iris and dahlia are amazingly complex characters... who unfortunately exist in ace attorney's universe, where character complexity is secondary to murder mystery, if its even considered at all. and this is why the narrative does the insane decision to frame phoenix's unwavering belief in iris' character as a good thing which is um. Excuse Me? like he has no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the woman he fell in love with isnt the same woman who tried to kill him. but like ok sure he's defended clients in more incriminating situations, so the story is probably drawing a final parallel of Believe In Your Client with phoenix's and iris' dynamic. except the reveal that phoenix's gf did not try to kill him but instead.... lied to him for 6 months, never told him about the danger he was in during this time, left him to believe that she tried to kill him, and continued to deceive him is like. Bro. Hello. nothing about this is admirable and just makes phoenix look like an extremely unhealthily devoted man like....!!!?!?
but anyways YEAH iris is a charmingly complex character who was too good for ace attorney. sniffles. but i see you iris i know you're crazy and i love u!!!
