Hello .flow fandom! this time I come here with a fanart inspired by @/nightmargin's doodle about a Houseki no Kuni x .Flow crossover of sorts. here is the link of that wonderful piece!!

Ok, so, in the original post sabitsuki has Phos' arms and legs, but then I thought "Yeah, phos is pretty weak and it would fit Sabi just right, BUT WHAT IF SHE WAS MADE OF CINNABAR INTEAD?!"

Her body is actually more rock than gem, thus explaining the white hair and her disability that also traslates to this world. The arms are a gold/ mercury alloy and the legs are just like phos', because its funny that the ending is present in thie gem form.

The alloy decision was made because I discovered that mercury combines pretty well with gold, and is one of the most common uses it has, and what is Cinna's primary weapon and characteristic? Yes! mercury!

This also work very good with .flow's plot, because in the anime the gems couldn't be near Cinnabar because of their mercury, so it serves as a metaphor for Sabi's illness, also, the actual gem part look amazing, you could say it almost seems like RUST ey 😉.

I dunno who both knows the two mangas, but Houseki No Kuni x TPN?

To my brain both Grace Field and the house of the gems kinda looks similar (plus they are both run by "a mysterious person all alone"...)

Heey, I read the post and and, what about this... Cinnabar x Rutile? Like, Cinnabar shattered and couldn't move, so uh, Phos takes them to Rutile, and the magic starts there.

It's kinda weird but, why not(?

“Rutile!”

“Yes, I'm here —Ah. We have quite the rare visitor today, it would seem.”

Phos grunts as they set Cinnabar down on the operating table, their arms covered with black clad gloves to protect themself from Cinnabar's mercury. Speaking of Cinnabar, the red gem couldn't move, and the cracks running across their body, their face, and the shattered pieces of their torso tells the whole tale.

Rutile walks over and signals Phos to go away, to which they do, and the doctor sighs when they see Cinnabar's battered state. “Let me guess. Lunarian attack?”

Cinnabar refuses to meet the doctor's gaze, and keeps quiet. Rutile continues, “I take it that's what happened.”

The doctor starts taking out their tools, lining them up carefully before deftly working on Cinnabar. It's a marvel watching their skillful hands and fingers move, not a beat or moment of pause in putting Cinnabar back into pristine condition.

It doesn't take long until all of Cinnabar's shattered pieces click back into place, stuck together with a layer of glue, and all their parts powdered to perfection. Rutile lets out a satisfied sigh and helps Cinnabar sit up on the operating table, untouched by their mercury thanks to the doctor's pair of gloves.

The red gem still shies away from Rutile's gaze even then, but when they do, they mutter a soft `thank you.’

Rutile tilts their head, “I'm sorry. I couldn't quite hear you. What did you say?”

Cinnabar contemplates for a while before repeating themself, slightly louder this time, and Rutile acts like they still couldn't hear Cinnabar, until the latter does so again. The doctor gives out a light chuckle, “I heard you the first time. It's just that I haven't heard your voice in so long, I wanted to milk it for what it's worth.”

Cinnabar finally meets Rutile's gaze, and the doctor continues, “Apart from your check ups, I rarely ever see you. I pegged you as the careful kind, despite your fragility.” They give a warm smile to Cinnabar.

The red gem dips their head and is about to leave, thinking they're all done with the doctor, when Rutile stops them right in their tracks. “Wait,” they say.

Cinnabar wants to ignore them and carry on their merry way, off to isolate themself from the rest of the gems in the confines of their lonely cave, whose only visitor is either that annoying mint colored gem or the doctor currently beckoning them to come over.

They give in, eventually, and walks over towards Rutile. The doctor takes a seat on a stool and pulls out another identical one and gestures for Cinnabar to take a seat on there, to which they hesitate for a while only to give in yet again.

Rutile starts the conversation, again, just like all the other times —“How have you been?”

“Good.” Cinnabar's answer is short —terse, even, and although Cinnabar would love to say how they truly feel —`Terrible’, they had an inkling that saying what the doctor would probably want to hear would help end the conversation quicker, and sparing the use of words would hopefully make Rutile lose interest and finally leave them alone, but —

Apparently, they're wrong. Rutile keeps badgering them with questions. Questions no other gem ever asks Cinnabar, questions they never ever got to hear, not even from the short time they lived together with the gems until they up and left a long, long time ago.

Even through Cinnabar's uninterested and indifferent responses, Rutile stays patient. They keep asking if there's anything bothering Cinnabar, if the night job is any fun, if they're lonely —and the only answer Cinnabar gives the doctor are half baked lies.

When they think it's finally over, Cinnabar excuses themself, and on the way out of the infirmary, Rutile says, “You shouldn't lie like that, Shinsha.”

The red gem is almost shocked. They look at Rutile from the corner of their eye. “I understand how you feel. Isolation is not a strange feeling to me,” and Cinnabar can almost see Rutile eyeing the wooden coffin in the infirmary for a split second.

The mercury threatens to spill out through their eyes, and Rutile's next statement only amplifies that feeling even more —“If you feel lonely, know that you can always confide in me.”

Cinnabar is surprised they managed to hold in the mercury, and they're even more surprised when they manage to smile at Rutile —the first smile in decades, centuries even —a genuine one at that, and just out of politeness, they reply —“Thank you.”
