Berenice Abbott at 18 rue Servandoni
The portrait on the cover of Julia Van Haaften's 2018 biography "Berenice Abbott: A Life in Photography" and at the top of Abbott's wiki page is by an unknown photographer. It was taken for the small newspaper Paris-Midi, published June 14, 1928. Keystone France agency, and now Getty owns the rights and incorrectly dates it as 1927, while Wikipedia dates it as "1930s."
Tumblr media
At the time, her studio was at 18 rue Servandoni in Paris, we see the fireplace and door in the background in other portraits, such as the portrait of James Joyce's daughter, Lucia. There's a classic Atget at 15 rue Servandoni, but it's from 1903-4. Atget died in 1927 and Abbott, along with Julien Levy, saved his archive. By 1930 she was in New York City, where Walker Evans made his great portrait of her.
Van Haaften writes that in search of lower rent, Abbott moved to the rue Servandoni studio in early 1928. Abbott kept a clipping of the newspaper, but there's no further detail about the portrait session in the biography.
I was curious about the photographer of the portrait and found Getty has a handful of other frames from the same session that I'd never seen.
Tumblr media
Most interesting of those frames is this contemplative shot showing the windows of her studio, maybe some photo chemicals on the table. A puff of smoke emanates from Abbott's cigarette in the same place where someone has left their fingerprint on the negative or print. There's a strong reflection or light leak in the top left corner of the frame. Van Haaften describes the rue Servandoni studio offering "beautiful north light."
Looking at the building on Google Earth, there is one north-facing spot that has the large windows similar to the 1928 portrait, seen in the center of the screen grab below.
Tumblr media
Another detail Van Haaften mentions is that it took Abbott months to install electricity. An electric spotlight is on a tripod behind Abbott in the standing portrait. In the alternate angle you can see a not-to-code wire dangling.
Tumblr media
So, who made these portraits? The Keystone France agency was an off-shoot of a popular stereoview company based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, hence "keystone." If you've ever flipped through old stereoviews at a vintage shop, you recognize this brand. The French agency was founded by Alexandre Garai in 1927 (whose brother Bertram started a related Keystone in London in 1914). The Met has one photograph by Alexandre Garai, taken in 1927. The jpeg is tiny, but indicates a modern perspective. While it's possible Garai is the photographer, his brother's ethos seems to have been to be the boss ... and never touch a camera.
The identity could be buried deep in Getty's London warehouse, which stores 80 million photographs and negatives. When these frames were scanned and metadata added to Getty in 2010-2016, if there was a name on the back of the prints, it probably would have been added then.
From the photos themselves, it's difficult to say if Abbott had a rapport or was familiar with the photographer: her default intensity is remarkably consistent her entire life, up until the last portrait of her in 1991.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(left, rue Servandoni 1929, right: Hank O'Neal, Berenice Abbott, Last Portrait, Monson, Maine July 17, 1991)
From the resolution, the depth of field on the lens, these are probably shot with a 4x5 or larger camera. It looks like the photographer shot the lens wide open, the camera in the standing portraits looks very much in focus, while Abbott's face looks slightly out of focus.
Two of the four frames have similar damage, could be a development problem, but could be mold later while in storage. Abbott's Paris portraits of the period were shot on glass (as much of Atget's body of work was), though by the late 1920s glass plates had mostly been replaced by film. Annoyingly, Getty is one of the best places online to see her Paris portraits, but the Steidl book is highly recommended. Seen together, you realize why Man Ray felt threatened, or at least annoyed, by his former assistant.
Tumblr media
The photographer was either challenged or in a challenging environment. Abbott was often a withering critic, one can imagine a green photographer shows up to make portraits and encounters a prickly subject. With the seated portrait above, at first glance, I thought maybe the print has a piece torn out of the left side? Or is it a modern lamp intruding on the composition?
It's difficult to tell with the window portrait how much of it is a metering mistake or the potential development issue, but it looks several stops overexposed to be of use in publication of that time. Today, with our phone cameras taking three frames and digitally merging exposure, we can romanticize the top half of her body dissolving into the light is as the "magic of film."
Tumblr media
I'm calling this the "last" frame of the session, based only on the fact that her pose and facial expression has shifted from intensity to a mix of boredom and exasperation. The photographer told her to sit on the day bed with tea and a book, "look relaxed," but she wants nothing to do with it.

Okay, quick questions: how do we know the album is coming in November and how do you know the copies are already made?
Hi dear,
Because it had the release date on the amazon listing.
And production of anything, be it clothing, beauty products, vinyls and CDs, housing items, cleaning products....etc... EVERYTHING... takes MONTHS of production to get made. Harry was wearing his yellow Pleasing nail polish in November 2021 (likely one of the testers prior to wide release). It didn't get released until July 2022. Beauty influencers have spoken about how they began planning for their eyeshadow pallets 2 years prior to release. These things TAKE TIME. You can't simply decide you want to drop an album next week and have 10 million copies ready and shipping to customers. It's not how *any* industry works, much less the music industry. The pandemic has also screwed up with every single supply chain - including the vinyl one. I'm not sure if it's still the case right now, but a few months ago vinyl album required a MINIMUM of 9 months on average to be made in time for release. That's how long Harry's House took - and Harry is a big name, so he likely gets priority. Louis also seems to have gotten priority, because in order to have his album released in November 2022, he would've had it finished and sent to physical production by February 2022. Which tracks with when we saw him recording in London etc in 2021, then when he stopped and started tour in Feb 2022.
This also doesn't even account for everything else involved, including photography, styling, bookings, renting studios, going thru label approval, discussion pricing, rates, hiring set crews, photo editors, graphic designers. receiving 3 album design options, sending back notes, changing things, then waiting for the label to also review and send their notes...etc etc etc....
And many more aspects including worldwide distribution, licensing, copyright, distribution to streaming, stores in various countries, online stores etc etc....
Then they also have to plan ahead for promotion and marketing, and lay out a campaign, hire PR firms and publicists, booking agents, promoters, talk shows, radio, tv, print, magazines, online advertising, venue bookings for shows, approved promotional images and posters.
They also have to copyright and register everything on the legal side, obtain licenses etc.....
ALL of this takes MONTHS.

An Exclusive Interview With Queen!
Music Life September 1975 issue
By Kaoruko Togo and Keiko Miyasaka
[Original text in Japanese, translation by deathtoming]
Around noon on July 14th, we left the hotel by car, and around two hours later we arrived at the beautiful Ridge Farm, surrounded by trees. We were blessed with clear skies on this day, and the blue sky and the greenery of the farm were almost blindingly beautiful. It was a bit past 2 o’clock. When we arrived in the main building, we were first greeted by a large dog, followed by a familiar voice from a room in the back. It was a large food hall, with Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John present.
When they see us, the four of them say, “Hello! You’re from Music Life, right? Welcome!” and greet us with handshakes. The four of them rented this Ridge Farm to focus solely on rehearsing for their next album. “We’re about to have lunch. Want to join us?” We knew we couldn’t work while hungry, so we accepted their offer with thanks. When the meal finished, we could begin our interview at last….
Music Life (ML): Are you in the middle of recording now?
Roger: No, we’re not recording yet. We’re all practising our new songs together. Once we practise them, we get an idea of how we should record them, I think.
ML: When do you think you’ll start recording?
Roger Maybe in about 3 weeks…
John: We might use Rockfield Studios in Wales.
ML: Do you always record there?
Roger: No, not really, although we did a bit of recording there for our third album, Sheer Heart Attack.
Freddie. We used around five studios to record that one. We’ll probably use several studios this time around, too.
ML: You’ll do a bit of recording in London, too, right?
Roger: Probably a little bit, yeah. We usually do our mixing in London.
Brian: But when we first record the backing track, it’s better to do it somewhere where we’re nice and settled, so it’s good to do it while we’re holed out in the studio. By doing that, we’re able to relax and do the recording.
ML: Can you tell us something about your upcoming album?
Freddie: Yeah, well we only have the rough framework at this point, but I think it will be our best work so far. We’re in the middle of creating the songs now.
Roger: Nothing has really come together yet, so it’s difficult to explain.
John: When we first came here we presented what songs we had written so far to each other, and we had about two albums’ worth, haha.
ML: I hear you’re heading to the US on tour soon.
John: Probably. Our manager is in the US now, and he’s apparently in talks with a bunch of people.
Freddie: We have to decide whether to record the album or go on tour in the US like we had decided during our previous tour.
ML: How long have you been working with your producer?
Freddie: His name is Roy Thomas Baker, and he’s been with us since our debut album.
Roger: We’re co-producing the album with him. Our next album will be with him, too.
ML: This Ridge Farm is such a beautiful place. How did you find it?
Roger: Our mixer, John Harris, found it. The owner often rents out this place to rock groups, apparently.
<At this point, an airplane flies overhead, making an extremely loud noise! Everyone shouts “Quiet!”>
ML: When you write your songs, do you do it individually?
Freddie: Yes, that’s right. Everyone writes their own songs in their own homes, and then brings it to places like this and we all work on it.
ML: How many songs will be on this album?
Freddie: I don’t know yet. Maybe around 12.
ML: When will it be released?
Freddie: That depends on a lot of things. But I want it out some time this year. It will probably be by the end of this year.
ML: What have you been up to since you came back from Japan?
Freddie: For several weeks, we kept on talking about our time in Japan, haha. We’d unwrap the presents we got from Japan. Please pass along our thanks to our fans in Japan, because we were really treated so kindly.
<An airplane makes another appearance. The four look up and protest again.>
ML: Is there anything that stands out in particular from your time in Japan?
Roger: Aside from the people we met, probably our final show in Tokyo. Something felt special. It was also our final show in Japan. The atmosphere was wonderful.
John: I also remember appearing in a kimono on stage for the first time in that concert.
ML: What about Japanese food?
Freddie: Like, tempura, haha. We went to a Japanese restaurant with our bodyguards in Japan. Oh that’s right, please send our regards to those bodyguards; we owe them a lot.
ML: What do you want to do the most the next time you’re in Japan?
Roger: I’m going to go shopping for sure, haha! Things like tape recorders and other things. Last time, Freddie bought lots of ceramics, and Brian and John bought cameras.
ML: Brian, you like cameras, don’t you?
Brian: Yeah, I do photography sometimes, and I have lots of other hobbies. Right now I’m really into audio.
ML: Since when have you been taking pictures?
Brian: Since quite a long time ago. But I only recently got a good camera. In England, cameras are so expensive.
ML: This is especially the case in Japan, but you have a lot of young girls for fans. What do you think about that?
Roger: It’s outstanding, haha! Japanese fans in particular give us lots of presents. We don’t get too many gifts from other countries, but it seems to be a part of the Japanese tradition.
ML: Among your young, female Japanese fans, there are some who say that Queen is their first encounter with rock music.
Roger: Great!
Freddie: That’s a good thing. It was really exciting when we were in Japan, and I think it was probably the same kind of atmosphere as it was for the Beatles in the ‘60s.
<The others chime in with comments like, “That’s really good!”>
ML: Were there any interesting gifts from Japan?
Brian: I received a lot of birthday gifts, so thank you very much to all of you for those presents. I received many works of art, and also things like dolls and traditional balls wrapped with beautiful string. We got lots of toys, too.
Roger: That ball with the string was hand-made, right? I got one, too.
<The plane flies by again, distressing the band.>
ML: In your free time, what kind of music do you listen to?
Roger: I’ve been listening to Led Zeppelin's first album.
Freddie: Lately, classical. Like, Chopin. Also things like Led Zeppelin and John Lennon.
ML: Freddie, you have a broad range of interests.
Freddie: Of course. I’ll listen to anything that I like. That said, there’s no artist whose album I’d buy as soon as it was released.
ML: Brian, what about you?
Brian: Pretty much the same as everyone else. I often listen to Led Zeppelin.
ML: There’s a place called “Rhye” in the lyrics for Lily of the Valley, but is that a real place in England?
Freddie: No, it’s a land from my imagination. It’s also mentioned in Seven Seas of Rhye, and I guess it’s like a fairy tale.
Roger: There is a place called “Rye” in England, although the spelling is different.
ML: Your songs’ lyrics seem to be influenced by classical poets.
Freddie: You’re referring to lyric poetry. I don’t think we’re influenced by that too much. Truthfully, I don’t have time to read. I just like expressing myself in that way. Those kinds of expressions are easier.
ML: Do the really passionate lyrics for love songs come from your personal experiences?
Roger: Ahhhh--!! Haha, yeah right! But I guess there’s, uh, a little bit of something in there.<Grinning> But Brian sometimes writes really passionate ones.
ML: She Makes Me is quite the song, isn’t it?
Brian: No, it’s not like that at all. <Acting quite bashfully> Although there are times when my personal experiences are expressed in song lyrics.
<The rest of the band hoot and holler at this!>
ML: The band does a good job recreating the sound from your records live on stage, don’t you?
Roger: We’re not trying to reproduce what you hear on the record exactly, though. Of course we want to produce a good sound, but on stage we also need to add an exciting mood to the quality of the sound. So that’s why it needs to be a little different from the album.
ML: Which do you like better, recording or performing live?
Freddie: I like both. They’re both interesting in their own ways.
ML: Do you use any special equipment on stage?
Roger: No, although Brian uses echo machines and such.
ML: Do you have a lighting technician?
Freddie: We do have one, but the band comes up with the idea, and our lighting guy -- his name is James Dann -- takes care of the rest. We’ve already come up with our next stage design and it’s going to be interesting.
<The plane flies by again. Everyone looks defeated.>
ML: Killer Queen was a big hit single; are hit singles important to you?
Roger: It’s not absolutely necessary. But we’ll keep on releasing singles. Of course we’ll only release ones we like, though.
ML: Which do you like better, singles or albums?
Freddie: Definitely albums! I think our music is geared more towards albums rather than singles.
Roger: Rather than releasing single after single, it’s better if there happens to be a song in the album that works well as a single, and we release it if the timing is right. It’s not good if we start thinking we need to release a single every 3 months.
John: On this upcoming album as well, we will record everything first, and then release something if it works well as a single. But we don’t particularly record only songs that would work as singles.
ML: Does it seem like you’ll have another song like Killer Queen?
Freddie: No, when Seven Seas of Rhye became a hit in England, the people at the record company wanted our next song to be like that, but we couldn’t do it. We go in the studio and record what we’re feeling at that time, and only after everything is finished do we decide as a group what to release as a single.
ML: So, you’re always looking for a new sound?
Freddie: It’s more interesting that way.
Roger: That’s why we come to places like this, and while we’re rehearsing we make a bunch of noise and form songs from that.
ML: Did someone serve as an inspiration for Killer Queen?
Roger: Freddie’s mom.
<Everyone bursts out laughing>
ML: Do you have plans for a British tour?
Roger: Yeah. Probably by the end of this year.
John: But first we need to record our album, and we don’t know what will come after.
ML: Which country’s fans do you like?
John: Japan’s, of course, haha!
Brian: <Speaking seriously> We were really surprised by the reaction of our Japanese fans. Honestly speaking, we didn’t realize it was at that level.
Roger: We thought there would be difficulties because of the language difference, but rock fans are the same around the world, in the end.
ML: Did you have a break after you came back from Japan?
John: Just a little. But we had lots of preparation to do, so it’s like we didn’t have a break.
ML: And uhh… now I’d like to ask about things outside of the music. It’s something Japanese fans want to know: when did you fall in love for the first time? What kind of person were they?
<Everyone reacts in horror, and they point at each other, with no one answering the question. Finally, Freddie speaks for the group.>
Freddie: Err… our first love is, of course, music, haha.
ML: Do you have any memories from when you were going to school?
Roger: I haaaaated school!
ML: What about you, Brian?
Brian: I went to an all boys school. I had no idea what girls were like, right up to when I graduated when I was 18. It was really a shock when I first got to know girls. But that’s the British school system for you. I was raised away from girls for so long that I was afraid to meet them.
Freddie: You’re still afraid of them, aren’t you? Haha. <This was a tough joke>
ML: Freddie, what subjects did you like in school?
Roger Oh, I know! ”Needlework”! <Everyone bursts out laughing>
Freddie: Art. I studied graphics and illustration at an art school for 3 years.
ML: What about sports?
Freddie: I did everything. Cricket, tennis…
ML: Do you still meet up with your friends from school?
Freddie: I often meet with around two of them.
ML: And, finally, are you married?
Roger: Japanese fans often want to know things like that, but I won’t say. <Roger winks mischievously.>
Freddie: We’re all single! But the Japanese girls have to find that out for themselves.
ML: Let’s get a message from each one of you to our readers…
And with that, the friendly interview came to an end. We were fortunate that the band talked to us in a relaxed mood while bathing in the bright sun.

oscar campaign costs
Oscar campaign budgets for films seeking nominations in multiple categories, such as “A Star Is Born,” “Roma” and “First Man,” can run from $20 million to $30 million as companies compete with each other to out-wine and dine awards voters, according to insiders at the various studios and streamers. One source said the campaign for “A Star Is Born” came in at slightly lower than $20 million, in a studio effort to spend more strategically than in past years (as with the $25 million it spent on “Argo,” or the $20 million for “Gravity,” the insider said).
The current cycle has few precedents, many sources noted. Hardly a day goes by without awards voters receiving glossy booklets about the making of this or that prestige film or an invitation to see A-listers tell stories from the set over lunch at such posh eateries as the Russian Tea Room or Monkey Bar.
Netflix has left many rivals in the dust with “Roma.” Several sources estimate that the film, a modestly budgeted black-and-white drama that is entirely in Spanish, has spent at least $25 million in its pursuit of an Oscar. As part of that effort, the streaming giant produced a pop-up photography exhibit built around director Alfonso Cuarón’s meticulously designed vision of life in Mexico City, and erected a daylong showcase of its costumes and sets at Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios. Before the holiday break in December, the “Roma” campaign sent Academy voters overstuffed pillows emblazoned with the film’s title, preceded by a 200-plus-page coffee table book of stills. That’s to say nothing of the multiple tastemaker screenings that Netflix has hosted, along with a splashy U.S. premiere celebration at the swanky Chateau Marmont.
In support of its film “Dumplin,’” Netflix rented out the ballroom of the Four Seasons Los Angeles and provided voters a catered lunch, along with a four-minute performance by Dolly Parton of her best original song hopeful, “Girl in the Movies,” from the picture’s soundtrack. The company followed it up by mailing pink plastic guitar Christmas ornaments on behalf of Parton.
The streamer is hardly alone in writing big checks for Oscars. In November, Shinola notebooks stamped with the lyrics to “Shallow” in Lady Gaga’s handwriting were sent to voters in a presentation box with a DVD screener of “A Star Is Born.” The notebook was followed by a double-disc soundtrack on vinyl featuring posters of Cooper and Gaga gazing lovingly at each other, as well as vintage-style rocker T-shirts.
Universal Pictures took the “Roma” route, shipping to voters an equally meticulous coffee table book about “First Man” and a collector’s edition of the original score. Director Damien Chazelle and his stars, Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, sat for a spree of events, including a screening and luxe luncheon at Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Cafe at The London West Hollywood. The studio presented a “sound show” on the lot to demonstrate how the filmmakers gave voice to the force of gravity.
Some of these costs are accounted for before a single frame of film is even shot. Movie studios such as Warner Bros. and Universal budget in a major awards push at the development stage of movies that seem to have what it takes to go the distance. They typically incorporate those huge campaign sums into their overall marketing, say awards experts.
“If you’ve got a film with three actors campaigning, like ‘The Favourite,’ that’s going to add up quick,” one consultant said. “It’s cheaper if you’re an A24 who is only pursuing something for Ethan Hawke.”
To hype Hawke’s work in “First Reformed,” A24 plied voters with a bottle of whiskey and Pepto Bismol, a nod to his character’s gag-inducing favorite cocktail. As a cheeky plug for “Vice,” Annapurna sent digital heart rate monitors in an allusion to Dick Cheney’s damaged ticker. Not to be outdone, Searchlight plugged “The Favourite” by deploying actors in waistcoats and powdered wigs to greet awards bloggers on both sides of the Continent. They came carrying giant cakes adorned with a line from the film — “How goes the kingdom?” — written in white frosting.

Chapter 1: The Unknown Girl
Genre: College, Slice of Life, Romance, Comedy, Fiction
Tumblr media
[ The bell rings]
"Fuck off! I will sure make sure this clock is thrown out in the trash. It's unbearable."
Oh, the story started? Sorry about that. Hello, I am Johnny Western. I'm nineteen years old teen guy. I didn't have much for a hobby. The only hobby I have is basketball. I used to go running about five kilometres daily, but today, I am too late to go for running. It has been about three months since I graduated from Sylvia high, a local renowned high school in the city of Toronto. My family lives in New York City but I had to transfer to Toronto due to the school. It us embarrassing to say, but all girls in my high school were fan of me. Today's is my first day of college. I had no talents for science so I picked up to study Archaeology since I knew taking this subject will help me to go around different parts of the world. When I was in twelfth grade, I used to see travelling videos and it inspired me that I should also go to see the world.
It was a nice weather outside. Birds chirping all over the garden, green everywhere although there was a broad road going across the middle of the society. We had a garden at the back of my house. Actually, my parents had me rented a house near the college I would be visiting. The house was purely white with a garage at the front, a swimming pool at the back. I had a dream to become a YouTuber, so I made a separate studio for me in the first floor. The theme was for gaming. The reason I woke up late was because I went sleeping late because of a live stream, Ha-ha. So, coming to my morning routine. Specifically, nothing, just a shower before college, a bowl of corn flakes with milk. I heavy breakfast light because I heard that there is a short break after having two consecutive lectures. So, I'm late. See you at the college.
[Meanwhile, Arthur running.]
Hello I'm Arthur Rowland. Nice to meet you. I'm eighteen. My hobby is painting. I barely go outside unless my friends ask me out. A little shy. Prefer not to speak, unless necessary. So, after running about three kilometres, I go to the convenience store and take some necessary groceries for the day which includes bread, some instant ramen, and some vegetables. Alright, coming to my extraordinary personalities. Since I was in the second last year of my high school, I had a knack towards photography. So, I joined the photography club of our high school. If you think that what's the use of photography club in high school, then I must tell you the answer. Fortunately, we work with the newspaper club and send them the necessary photographs they need for a particular article and for that they used to share thirty percent of the total budget they get for the year since the budget for the photography club was the lowest of all the clubs in the high school. Beside this, school student council used to ask us out during any fest or any event in the school. And for that we get a fixed amount of money. And I am proud that I was the president of our photography club. But now all things have changed. Now is the time for us to go to a college. So, I'll be joining the same college as Johnny, whom you all heard before. I will be taking arts in the college since this could help me to carry forward my dream of becoming a photographer. Like we said, we are besties. Hehe!
[The phone rings]
"Yes coming!" Arthur shouted.
"Hello! Oh, it's you Johnny! Long-time no call bro. How have you been?"
"Yeah bro, I'm fine. See, we are going to the same college. So, I think we should join the same club. So, choose accordingly" Johnny from the other side.
"Ye... Yeah bro! Of course, if we get so."
Finding a trembling voice over the phone, Johnny got disgusted. " Hey, hey, hey! What you mean by probably? We definitely be joining the same club. By the way where are you now?"
"What's the time?"
"It's nine."
"Oh, fuck man! We're gonna be late bro? I haven't even entered my house yet. The college is from ten. Uuggggh! " Arthur shouted suddenly in between the public.
"Huh! That's why I tell you, be punctual. See I am ready. Just left to have my breakfast. " Johnny with pride.
"Tell me, have to gone running today?"
"Y...ye...Yes! Of course, I've gone."
"Stop lying bro!"
"Heh. You surely see through me all the time. Have you call the other idiot? "
"Who? Tom?"
"Yeah!"
"No. But don't worry. He'll just be alright."
[Meanwhile, Tom sneezes.]
Hello, I'm Tom Henderson, age same as Johnny, meaning Arthur is the youngest among us three. I like experimenting pranks over the other two. I never wasted their weekends without pulling pranks on them. I didn't listen to them. I have a good quality. I always break a serious mood of my friends. And Arthur and Johnny would accept me as they knew that I was only guy who helped them to understand that however may be the reason, we shouldn't let ourselves down and step back from the important days of our lives.
"Who the hell is talking about me?' said Tom after sneezing.
[Phone rings]
"Where are you?" Arthur called.
"In my house. But why? Anything bad happened?"
"Nothing bad but it's worst. We are late for school, man"
"What's the time?" Tom asked curiously.
"Fifteen minutes to start"
"Damn, man! I'm late." Tom keeps the phone in the bag and smiles for a second.
Arthur took the metro and boarded off at 1459 London Road. Then he kept running as fast as he could as it was almost three minutes remaining to enter the campus. On the last minute, Johnny entered. "Ooof...at last we managed" Arthur while relaxing. "But wait, hasn't Tom been here yet?
[From their back]
"Greetings, my friend! Long time no see! How have you all been?" Tom surprises both of them. "I thought you are late since you told me that you were late." "I lied" Tom after smiling. "You damn brat" Johnny got angry. "I'm sorry bro" Tom rubbing the hand at the back of the head. "My family members are all thin even if they eat all the junk food, even me too" Tom after smiling. "Why are we exercising Johnny? Is it that necessary? I'm envious of Tom's physique" Arthur with his crying face.
"Hey, we are late, run!" They started running along the corridors as fast as they could. They decided to enter through the second door, the back of the auditorium where the freshers meeting will be held.
[An unknown girl came running blindly from the front door and got crashed with the three boys]
"Ow! S...Sorry! I wasn't looking" the girl said.
"Don't worry! We weren't looking, so it was our fault too. We should apologize."
When the girl raised his head, something happened at her heart. It felt like she got her future prince. Normally, a girl gets only one prince but here is the story of a girl fascinated by the three boys. The girl blushed out and ran away. The last thing went over the boys' head.4
"What was that?" Johnny asked.
"I don't know."
And the three of them stared at the empty corridor with the girl running out. What will happen in the story? How will the girl react if they meet them again? Find out as the story continues.

Something Wonderful (PT. 4)
Synopsis: During your time as a professional photographer, you had come across incredibly good looking men, but there was just something about Tom that stood out. Who would have thought shooting the self-titled “walking meme” would change your life forever?
Chapter word count: 4.2k
Tumblr media
Part One // Part Two // Part Three // Part Four // Part Five // Part Six // Part Seven // Part Eight
It was a lot easier than expected to extend your stay at your hotel, scheduling your leave for a week later as requested by Tom. Changing your flight was a completely different story, but after a couple of hours and a hefty fine later (that’s what savings were for, right?), everything got sorted. There was a guilt in the pit of your stomach about spending so much money to stay away with a guy you’d been on one date with, but it was all so new and exciting and you just didn’t care. How often did this happen? In your professional life, the odd occasion. In your personal life, absolutely never.
Since your date, the two of you had only managed to see each other for a quick lunch the day after before Tom had to rush off for an interview with Jake. He’d texted you admitting and apologising about his schedule already getting in the way. You’d glanced at the message while you’d settled down in your hotel room with a Chinese takeaway, fully aware that he was enjoying a five star meal on the other side of town with his team. It was difficult and you made it work as much as you could, but there was the thought you’d wasted your time. You even grew the balls to express this to him over the phone on your third night, still yet to physically see him since the very rushed lunch.
“I just feel like I need a break from the city,” Tom said on the other end of the phone.
You sighed. “That’s hardly going to work going by how busy your diary is.” Standing from the edge of the bed, you moved to the large window and looked over the city that never sleeps. From the height you were at, everyone seemed like ants running around in their hectic lives. Somehow it was somewhat peaceful to watch.
“Well I’ll be done for the day in a couple of hours if nothing drastically changes,” came Tom’s reply, coaxing you to look away from a scene of midday road rage down below. “Yeah, that’s what we’ll do. This’ll make up for your shit stay.”
“What? It’s not been-”
“We’ll rent a car and just go somewhere. Stay the night away maybe… I’m not back at work until tomorrow night so it’s doable.”
Stay the night somewhere, just the two of you?
“Okay,” you smiled, absently picking at some paint that was starting to peel away on the windowsill. “Where are we gonna go?”
“We’ll figure that out later. It’ll be awesome! There’ll be no phone calls to interrupt us about work. It’ll just be you and me.”
Your cheeks warmed and a huge grin lit up your face as butterflies fluttered around in your stomach.
“What are your plans for the rest of the day?” he asked. Chattering and laughter could be heard in the background so you assumed he was at the studio for an interview. You’d completely forgotten who was interviewing him. The amount of talk shows and famous names Tom had mentioned had all blurred into one. It was like he was on one constant, never ending interview. At least that’s what it felt like. “I just thought… Yeah, actually, you could do the honours and decide where we go. That’ll be your job.”
“Well I was gonna go on a little photography day out around the city, but I suppose I can blow that off.”
“You know you could have come-”
“Yes, yes, I know, Tom. Maybe another time, yeah?”
Although things had felt like they were moving a million miles an hour between you and Tom (even though, ironically, you’d yet to spend more than an hour together during the last few days), you’d wanted to keep some sort of normality in the beginning of your… Whatever this was. Relationship? Definitely not. That’s why you’d put a hold on meeting his friends and family; it was far too soon for that. Tom’s parents were back home in London with his brothers Sam and Paddy, but Harry and his closest friend Harrison had stayed with Tom to travel around the world on the press junket. There had been so many times during your stay in New York where Tom had suggested you hang out with them, just for an hour or so while his work was quiet and more behind the scenes, but you always said no. You explained you just wanted the time to get to know him first. You kept the other half of the reason to yourself. You wanted to spend time alone with him just to be certain it was worth it, that it had the possibility to go somewhere amazing. That was normal, wasn’t it?
Tom’s sigh was barely audible, but you heard it.
“I’m sorry. Just not yet. Anyway, your driving might be awful and you could kill us off before I get a proper chance,” you murmured, smiling a little to yourself.
“My driving will entirely depend on how annoying you are later, darling.”
You could practically hear the smirk on his face. Giving a loud laugh, you shook your head and moved away from the window, kicking some dirty clothes on the floor into the small pile that had built up in the corner. “Go get back to work. I’ll sort the trip out and I’ll see you later.”
Keeping Tom’s work commitments in mind, you chose Philadelphia. It wasn’t too far a drive in case there was an emergency that meant you’d have to shoot back, and through the extremely limited research you’d done, you’d found an exhibition at The Franklin Institute dedicated to the Marvel Universe. In no way was that the deciding factor when it came to picking the destination. No, not at all.
You weren’t entirely sure how busy Tom would be for the rest of the day, so you went ahead and sorted a car and a cheap hotel too, then quickly sent him a message to explain everything had been booked and he could pay you back by buying dinner on the way over. Again, this was exactly how one spent their savings, wasn’t it? They were for fun, spontaneous trips and not for proper adult things.
It felt as though the rest of the day dragged because you were so excited for the road trip. With your small overnight bag packed, you tried to make the time pass as quickly as possible by pottering around the hotel room; watching whatever was on TV, messaging friends, double and triple checking all the bookings were sorted - anything to make the time fly by. After what felt like an age, Tom texted you to let you know he was outside, having picked up the car.
“Okay, before you say anything, I had no control over what car they gave us,” you said after making your way out of the hotel. You stood there and tried to hold back a laugh at the little red Nissan. It wasn’t exactly the cool convertible you’d fantasised about.
“Next time, I’m in charge of the car,” Tom replied with a chuckle as you slid into the passenger seat, closing the door with a slam. He tossed a wrapped burrito onto your lap.
You brought Google Maps up on your phone and found the hotel before setting it on the dashboard, then dug into your food.
“Philadelphia?” Tom questioned, pulling out onto the road. You couldn’t quite explain what it was, but seeing him driving was hot. The dark t-shirt he was wearing tightened around his arms, showing off his muscles as he gripped the wheel. “What’s in Philadelphia?”
“You’ll see,” you shrugged and gave him a grin, getting a smile from the boy in return.
Admittedly, you hadn’t thought much about how the visit to the Marvel exhibition would go. Yes, you knew that Tom would love it and be insanely interested in everything going on, but you hadn’t actually thought about the attention his presence would attract. He was Spider-Man after all. If he kept his head down and his hat on then hopefully all would be well.
It took longer than expected to get onto the highway, but when you eventually made it onto the smoother road, you relaxed into your seat and wound your window down to get some fresh, exhaust-filled air into the car.
“I haven’t even asked how your day was,” you said, looking over at Tom. His brow furrowed slightly as he focused intently on the road ahead.
“It was fun, always is, but sometimes I just get a bit bored of being asked the same questions over and over,” he replied, quickly casting his eyes your way before moving his attention back to the road.
“Like whether you and Zendaya are dating?” you smirked and caught the slight shake of his head. You weren’t surprised at how fed up he was of those rumours, having suffered with them for the last few years. “Or what it was like filming in your own home land?”
“I wasn’t aware of how much you were keeping up with all my interviews.”
“Well I’ve got to pass the time somehow.”
He chuckled. “I appreciate people have set questions and all, but the more creative ones are always better.” He reached over and fiddled with the radio, pressing a few buttons until it connected with his phone. “Go on, you can be the DJ. No pressure, but this could make or break us.”
“I wasn’t aware there was anything to make or break.” His snort of laughter made you grin and you took his phone to open up Spotify so you could have a nosy through his playlists. “Bit of a Destiny’s Child fan, are you?”
“Isn’t everyone?”
Well you couldn’t argue with that. You took the time to make a quick playlist and queued some songs, mixing it up a little and playing music from old school noughties hits to cheesy pop to classic rock anthems, throwing a bit of Destiny’s Child in there just to make him smile. As the beat of the music hit you, the both of you loosened up and started dancing stupidly in your seats, singing in funny voices to imitate the stars of your childhood. When it came to the first word of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody bursting through the speakers, you both stopped your movements and instantly joined in, as though part of the band. The ballad started and with that, so did the dramatics. Moving your arms and singing as loudly as you possibly could, you both fought for who would be the next Freddie Mercury and the fact you didn’t have the instruments there in the car didn’t stop you and Tom from playing them in the air - at least as much as he could without taking both hands off the wheel. There wasn’t a care in the world for what cars driving by thought of the couple of weirdos completely going for it. The guitar solo came and you had to admit, you were much better at air guitar than he was, but he could sing the higher notes far better. The music faded and you both burst into laughter.
“Wow, that was… Bad,” Tom laughed, forehead shining with sweat from his performance. “I don’t think you actually hit one note right just then.”
“Alright, Beyoncé,” you giggled and reached over to push his shoulder.
“Well I didn’t get the role of Billy Elliot for no reason,” he grinned cheekily and you laughed loudly before giving him another shove. His grin broadened as he grabbed your hand, holding it tightly. You didn’t pull away. He gave it a squeeze and placed your hand back on your lap, though instead of putting his back on the wheel, he settled it on your knee, where it remained for the rest of the drive.
The sun had just started to lower when you parked up in front of the hotel, casting a golden hue over everything in sight. Tom’s dark eyes sparkled in the light and you caught flecks of hazel in them. They were beautiful. He gave you a warm smile, eyes squinting slightly, and he squeezed your knee one final time before getting out of the car to get the bags.
“Are you going to tell me why we’ve come here yet?” he asked, following you into the hotel.
“You’ll see soon. We’ll just dump our stuff and head out, yeah? You’ll like it, I promise.”
You headed over to the front desk so you could check in. After giving your name and ID, the receptionist found your reservation on the computer. Her brow furrowed ever so slightly. “There seems to be a little bit of a mix up with your room,” she said, looking up and glancing between the two of you. “The room that’s been booked for you is a double room instead of the twin room you requested.”
“Okay, well can it be changed?” you asked and tried not to get too flustered.
“I’m sorry, Ma’am, but all the twin rooms are fully booked.”
“But I booked-”
“It’s okay,” Tom interjected, stepping slightly closer to the desk. He shot the receptionist a smile. “We’ll just have the double. I can sleep in the bath or outside or something,” he chuckled and you shook your head, biting back a smile. Not that you would let it happen, but you knew he one hundred percent would sleep outside in the hall if you asked him to.
Tom picked up your bags and carried them up to the room. Seeing the large double bed with towels rolled up into two swans that connected at the beak to make a heart, your face flamed and you scratched the back of your head awkwardly. “I guess I’ll take the couch,” you murmured and stared at the sorry-looking piece of furniture that Tom tossed the bags onto.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he said. “You get the bed.”
“I’m the only one small enough to be able to stretch out on it. For once, it seems you’re actually too tall for something.”
“If you want to talk about our heights, just let me know because I’ve got a whole file up in here filled with jokes about you,” he grinned, tapping the side of his head.
“Wow, a whole file dedicated to me?” you sighed dramatically and placed a hand over your heart. “I’m touched, Tom. Really, I am.”
“Oh piss off,” he laughed and pulled off his hat to fluff his hair up a little, only to then put the cap back on. “Come on, it’s time for you to show me why I had to put up with your horrible singing for the longest two hours of my life.”
To keep things a secret, you took control of the car and drove to the Franklin Institute. With every passing sign for the exhibit or civilian you drove past with some sort of Marvel item of clothing on, you broke into a cold sweat, but Tom didn’t mentioned anything whether he noticed or not. Going by the quiet singing to himself and tapping away on his phone he was doing, he seemed not to catch on, which was great. Even when you pulled up in the parking lot and there was a sign for the exhibit mere meters away from the car, he got out obliviously. You gave a breath of a laugh. God, he was blind.
“Have we come all this way for a museum?” he asked and followed you out of the parking garage. All you did was flash him a grin, giving nothing away.
“Okay, the only thing I’m gonna say is to keep your hat on,” you told him when you walked around to the front of the building. Groups of people of all ages passed by, rushing to get inside or chatting with each other after just leaving the exhibit. You caught a glimpse of Tom, squinting at the taller boy, the setting sun making it almost impossible to see properly. But you saw the confused expression ghost his features after a couple of young children ran between the two of you in Captain America costumes, shield and all.
“[Y/N], where are we?”
You grabbed a hold of his arm and gave it a squeeze, feeling the hard muscles under the skin. “I know you might be a bit sick of work and you wanted a break, but I just couldn’t help myself,” you grinned and gave a laugh when he finally spotted one of the many signs advertising the Marvel exhibit. When he didn’t show immediate signs of elation, you bit your lower lip nervously. Was this a bad idea? “We don’t have to stay if you don’t want to… I’m sure there’s plenty of other things to do here…”
“What? No, no, this is awesome!” Tom assured you and pulled his arm from your grip so he could wrap it around your shoulders. “Sorry, just took me a second to read it properly.” Ah, that explained it. He’d only ever briefly mentioned his dyslexia in passing comments a few times before.
You moved an arm around his waist and tried to ignore your stomach flipping at the warmth his chest brought. “Well just be sure you keep that hat on, Holland.”
Walking along the red carpet, you followed the small crowd into the first room where people fought over to get the best view of Marvel’s first published comic book. Even Tom had to hold himself back from lunging forward to press his nose right up against the glass case. You took photos together in front of the artifacts, pulling faces in a few but gave your best smile for the rest. It was strange being so close to the props and costumes used in the films, even more so due to the fact you were wandering around with one of the stars. As you slowly made your way through the rooms, Tom quietly told you some behind-the-scenes stories of his time on set, including some of the pranks the older guys played on him just because he was the baby of the group. It was near enough impossible not to smile goofily at every word. His excitement and pure adoration for the entire Marvel Universe was adorable.
In the corner of your eye, you spotted a familiar red and blue costume peeking out from the next room. You didn’t think twice about grabbing a hold of Tom’s hand to drag him through to the other area and you didn’t pay attention to the fact he didn’t let go once you’d stopped in front of Spider-Man sculpture hanging upside down from the ceiling. He squeezed your hand, beaming.
“It says it’s life-size, but clearly they’re picturing Spider-Man to be of normal human height,” you teased and he rolled his eyes.
“Again with the height thing?” he questioned, raising a brow. “It’s not like you’re one to talk, short arse.”
You scanned the room quickly and noticed a handful of people looking your way, some even having the nerve to point. You sighed quietly. “Okay, I think this is actually the last room anyway so come on, I’ve got to get a picture of you with this Spider-Man,” you said, giving him a smile. “And then we’ll go before someone starts a scene.”
“I might as well come out of hiding then since we’re going anyway.” Tom took off his hat and ran his fingers through his hair to fix the curls. A few squeals and excited chatter could instantly be heard and you tried your best to ignore it, not wanting to ruin your time together. He stood next to the sculpture and grinned away as you (and fans all around) snapped some photos, laughing softly when he gave a peace sign or pulled the infamous Spider-Man pose, pretending to shoot a web.
“You’re such a poser,” you snorted after he’d finished his mini photoshoot. All Tom could do was laugh before his attention was pulled away by the fans asking for photos and signatures. You even heard someone request he phone their mother. Was it rude to ask them to leave him alone so he could enjoy the rest of his date day with you? Sensing your almost overwhelming need to leave, he caught your eye and then began to say his goodbyes to the small crowd that had built up around him. After a few final waves and a couple of last photographs with some of the younger visitors, he slipped his fingers through yours and left the museum.
“I was hoping you wouldn’t get recognised at all,” you said once you’d set off in the car. Your hand felt cold without his comforting grip. “Although I suppose we can count ourselves lucky it only happened at the end.”
Tom’s grin had yet to leave his face since you’d hurried out of the exhibition and he reached over, placing his hand on your knee. Your skin burned and you craved his touch even more. “I don’t even care. It was really cool! Putting me through your shit singing was more than worth it.”
He talked non-stop the whole drive back to the hotel, speaking animatedly about his favourite props and how much of a Spider-Man fan he’d been as a child. It was heart-warming to know how big of an impact the superhero had on Tom since before he could even speak, and now he was that same character being a huge part of millions of people’s lives.
It was only when Tom opened the door to the room that you remembered the whole double bed situation. As though reading your mind, he grabbed one of the pillows and headed towards the bathroom, but you clutched his arm to stop his movements. “No, don’t be silly, we’ll just share the bed,” you told him and pushed a piece of hair from your face, tucking it behind your ear. “But you better keep your hands to yourself, Holland.”
After insisting you change into your pyjamas in the bathroom, you came out wearing a One Direction concert t-shirt that was nearly a decade old and had more holes in than members of the band, and a pair of Christmas-patterned shorts. You stopped on the spot when you saw Tom. He’d managed to pack some bottoms, but clearly he had no idea what a t-shirt was. The hard muscles on his stomach made your mouth water. You’d seen him topless the first time you met, but this was different… This was more intimate.
“Just so you don’t feel awkward,” Tom said, pulling your attention away from his abs. He gestured towards the bed where he’d laid the spare pillows down the middle as some sort of soft wall. It wasn’t necessary and that’s what made you feel even more touched at the gesture.
You turned off the lights and climbed into bed with him, the wall of pillows somehow making you feel even closer. He shuffled around to try and get comfortable. You lay on your back, stiff and silent. When he’d rolled over for the seventh time, you gave a sigh and turned on your side. Your eyes had adjusted to the darkness so you could just about see his silhouette. “Okay, I take it back, you can go and sleep in the bath,” you whispered, reaching over the pillows to push his shoulder.
“Sorry, I’m just not used to sleeping next to a wall.”
“It’s hardly a tower of bricks. Deal with it.” Unable to stop yourself, you give him another push just for good measure. He swiftly grabbed your hand and held your arm out so he could easily tickle your armpit, making you squeal with laughter. “You can’t do that!” you giggled and pulled your arm back, keeping it safe and sound on your side of the wall.
“You invaded my territory!”
“Yeah, to shut you up!”
A squeak of surprise came out when a pillow hit you right in the face. Being the mature adult you were, the only way to react was obviously to hit him back. He laughed and tried to move out of the way when you went to whack him again, though the groan he released gave a clear indication that the target had been hit. With barely enough time to celebrate, he’d pounced. His fingers dug into your sides, tickling you mercilessly, and you laughed loudly, squirming beneath him. You reached out blindly and tried to get him back, to find his weak spot. He yelped and you laughed triumphantly as you went to tickle his ribs again. His hands grabbed yours and pinned them to the bed beside your head. He moved his body on top of yours to keep you from jumping at the first chance you got to tickle him again
Then you stopped.
The only sound breaking the tense silence was your uneven panting. Your chests rose and fell heavily. Your legs had somehow tangled and his hot breath tickled your skin, causing goosebumps to rise all over your body. His grip loosened on your wrists and he swallowed thickly before tentatively leaning down, hand moving to lightly cup your jaw and tilt your head up higher. His lips pressed against yours in a gentle kiss.

Pairing: Isabelle Lightwood & My OC Jennifer Reaper
I got sidetracked so many times because this originally was supposed to be an AU so please bear with me thank you for your time. ❤️
______
It was simple, take the picture then boom Isabelle had an idea. But it wasn’t easy it was actually pretty difficult for the small women to find something or someone to be her muse, Jace volunteered but Isabelle declined, don’t get the women wrong she loved her brother but Jace was sometimes to much he loved taking pictures of himself Isabelle couldn’t really blame him she did the same.
But that wasn’t the point, Izzy was doing a fashion design at home, she had the clothing down but nothing came to mind when she got to the colors, so Isabelle decided to use an old hobby that she loved to do, photography. Isabelle has an eye for fashion but she also has an amazing eye for scenery, perfect lighting and timing.
Aside from fashion Isabelle adored taking photos of things that caught her interest.
But at the moment nothing caught her attention or interested her. Izzy huffed in defeat deciding to go home leaving the park she was originally at.
—-
As Soon as Isabelle entered her apartment the smell of freshly cooked pasta invaded her senses which only meant one thing.
Jennifer was cooking lunch.
Isabelle made a Beeline towards the kitchen settling on a chair by the bar placing her camera on the wooden platform resting her head in the palm of her hand letting out a deep sigh.
“Uh oh I know that sigh, that’s the ‘I give up’ sigh, who exactly are you and what have you done to my best friend?.” Jennifer asked clearly joking with a hint of seriousness. Isabelle groaned tilting her head back as Jennifer set a bowl of pasta in front of her, “But seriously Iz what’s up?” Jennifer continued to question placing a fork in front of the women swaying her hips a bit to the music that was quietly playing.
“I have no muse.” Iz mumbled picking up her fork stabbing the pasta, “Isabelle Lightwood, not having any muse?. No that’s not possible Isabelle, you made a design out of a garbage bag and it looked nice! And you got that from where? A dumpster by an ally?.”
Isabelle shook her head chuckling a bit eating the noodles she stabbed earlier.
“Why not use Jace for muse?.”
Isabelle snorted covering her mouth so she didn’t spit out her food.
“Izzy he’s not that bad he models for Clary all the time.”
“I know but Jace sometimes doesn’t act normal when a Camera is faced towards him.”
“Jace does love himself I don’t know what to tell you there. Hell pretty sure if there was a second him he’d date him.”
Isabelle glanced up at Jenny her eyes casted down on the newspaper placed in front of her, she didn’t miss the way the corners of her mouth curled up, Isabelle found herself smiling too.
“It’s true.” They said in sync.
Jennifer looked at Isabelle meeting her eyes, their smiles growing bigger both women laughing.
——-
Later in the evening Isabelle found herself in her fashion and photography studio, Izzy stared down at the unfinished drawing that she created nothing coming to mind.
Isabelle groans in defeat she’s been staring at the drawing for two hours now and nothing struck her creative side.
“Why not red? You know like the iconic rose.” Isabelle jumped a bit looking over her shoulder to see Jennifer leaning against the doorframe of the studio her amber hair dissolved hazel eyes dropping wearing a shirt that went past her waist hiding her underwear, holding a cup in her hands. Isabelle gave her a gentle smile “I have at least over a hundred styles that are full on red Jen.” Jennifer shrugged “just trying to help.” She mumbled walking over to where Izzy was sitting leaning over her shoulder to see what she did.
“It looks good.”
“Yeah but it would look better if it had color.”
“And a hat.”
Isabelle looked up towards Jennifer “what?.”
“It is the winter time Iz a beanie would go great with the Jacket and pants, beneath the ripped Jeans would be leggings the shoes would mostly brown army boots with one of the tags hanging off the side.”
Isabelle thought of it, trying to imagine what Jennifer told her and explained into some details.
“Or not, i’m not as good at fashion then you are aside from that you can do it Iz, your a lightwood you’ll find a way to finish this and make it come to life.” Jen said kindly placing a quick kiss on Isabelle cheek.
“Here I made this for you, don’t stay here too long or I might have to drag you to dinner and bed like last time.” the women warned in a playful tone placing the cup in Isabelle hand “Coffee?.”
“Coffee.” Jen answered messing with Izzy’s hair before finally leaving the short women alone.
Isabelle huffed in amusement she adored that women, Isabelle looked down at the liquid smiling, not to dark or to light it balanced out, but it was mostly the foam heart that made her smile. Jennifer understood her well.
“Perfect.” a small ‘Just like you!’ could be heard making Isabelle laugh.
“Thank You!.”
Like I said, she adores that woman.
_____
Hours after hours Isabelle found herself yawning, her black hair tied up into a messy bun held together by different pencils and pens, The cup from earlier empty on her table.
Isabelle drew 5 different styles using some pictures she took years ago to help her, but nothing they didn’t give her the passion she would usually get when she created a new design.
An exhausted sigh left her lips deciding to call it a night, it can’t be that late if Jennifer didn’t come to drag her to bed, right?.
Isabelle looked at her watch, it was 8:46 Pm.
“Shit…” Isabelle dropped her pencil onto the platform of her design table grabbing the cup beside her pushing the stool back walking out of the studio turning off the light on her way out, quickly walking down the hall going to the kitchen order to clean the cup placing it in the sink.
Isabelle sighed rubbing her eyes, “what am I supposed to do?. I can’t think with a tired mind.” She said to herself leaning against the counter after a minute of complete silence and debating on what she’s supposed to do, Isabelle noticed a dim light coming from the living room, raising a brow Isabelle circled around the island heading towards the source of the light, finding a sleeping Jennifer laying on the couch. Papers laid out on the coffee table, Isabelle glanced over at them to see one word in bold RENT.
She forgot all about the rent, Isabelle was out of town for a couple months on vacation with the Lightwood family and Magnus, Jennifer wasn’t allowed to come because in her mother’s words ‘I don’t have enough money for another ticket.’
They both knew it was a load of bullshit but Jenny being Jenny told Isabelle it was fine she’ll live.
‘It’s gonna take a couple of months to get rid of the Lightwood smell anyway you and that freaking perfume trying to kill me.’
Isabelle smiled at the memory, Jennifer always tries to find something to tease Isabelle about.
Isabelle scoffed rolling her eyes a soft smile forming on her face “now aren’t you a sweetheart?.”
“Who pays 150 dollars for a damn perfume!?.” She Shouted in a playful manner a smile on her face.
“Me!.”
“Obviously.” Jennifer scoffed shaking her head.
Isabelle closed her eyes shaking her head at the memory quietly laughing.
The revenant took a seat by the sleeping amber haired girl noticing money lined up by the rent and other things, there were labels on top of the different stacks, Rent, Light, Cable, Gas, Phone’s, AC bill, Water bill. Taxes.
Isabelle brows drew together, how the hell was Jennifer able to pay for all these things for the past 3 months? Isabelle never got the chance to ever send Jennifer money because of her mother.
“She’s a big girl, she’ll be able to handle it.”
Isabelle was so mad when her mother said that, Isabelle and Jennifer were roommates for a reason, they split the bills, food stamps and more and of course they’ve always planned on living with each other since they were kids.
Why was the Light bill so high?.
Crap the light room…
Isabelle forgot to shut that off, after looking over the bills she noticed how each was was high beside the phone and gas bill, AC was Isabelle fault So was the light.
Isabelle sighed “you better not be working twelve jobs again.” Izzy said to herself, Izzy left before for a whole year because of a design project she was doing in London she was needed to make and come up with ideas for the dresses the models were wearing thanks to Magnus help, he knew how bad Isabelle wanted to be a fashion designer so he tried to help everyone supported her especially Jennifer. Frankly her year trip was cut short because of a call she got that scared the hell out of her. Jennifer ended up in the hospital.
Isabelle can’t remember the last time she got on a public transport so fast, she remembered bouncing her leg up and down on her way back tears in her eyes fearing for a best friend as soon as she got off the plane she called an Uber going straight to the hospital she told the Uber to take her bags to her house saying her landlord would be at the door to help with them. Izzy opened the double doors seeing that her brother’s, Magnus, Clay and Simon were already there all looking equally worried but Isabelle knew she was worst that she looked worst she was the closest to Jennifer, Jennifer was her everything.
Later on Isabelle found out she didn’t have enough nutrients in her body, she didn’t eat a normal amount of food she didn’t drink enough water or anything else her anxiety levels were horrible, doctors said she either passed out from hunger, stress, anxiety or exhaustion. All of those reasons made Isabelle feel horrible, Isabelle remembered everyone arguing with the doctor but she was more focused on the unconscious Jennifer on the hospital bed, she didn’t even look alive she would’ve mistaken Jennifer for dead if the heart monitor didn’t tell her otherwise. She was pale Isabelle couldn’t see her freckles as much, the dark circles under her eyes made her sick to her stomach.
At one point she had to yell at everyone to shut the hell up. Them arguing was gonna give Jennifer more stress and make her state last longer she may be unconscious but Isabelle knew Jennifer could probably hear them.
Isabelle was pulled out of memory lane when a small sound came from beside her, she looked over to see Jennifer stirring in her sleep a bit, then there were the nightmares.
Isabelle sighed crawling over to her lightly stroking the side of Jennifer’s head humming a song, Jennifer relaxed under her touch a deep breath leaving her, Isabelle watched her friend for a while thinking of all the times Jen was there for her. “You do so much and you barely get recognition for any of it… I tell you everyday and I’ll keep telling you, I am thankful for you I appreciate you for being in my life for always putting me first even when I don’t deserve it. I want you to take better care of yourself, I should’ve asked Magnus to help you that year but I was to caught up in my own excitement that I forgot, that was selfish of me and I really wish you told me of all the things you were doing, I would’ve helped you pay for your classes if I knew that paper was coming early, even if I did ask for Magnus to help you, I know you would decline his help till the bitter end because you’ve never enjoyed asking people for anything.” She spoke quietly. Playing with a strand of her hair.
“When I got that call I felt as if my world crumbled around me… I was so scared for you I tried to not think the worst but I did… all I knew I wanted to do was hold you and not let you go or let you out of my sight, I don’t know if I want to do this fashion thing if it’s gonna end up taking me away from you for a period of time, period of time that causes you to run all around the place trying to keep a place for us. It’s not fair for you or me, I don’t want to go somewhere and find out months later you’re in the hospital again because you weren’t able to have time for yourself.” Tears overwhelmed her eyes, “I’ve always wanted the best for you, as you did for me… be selfish for once please… do something for you…”
“You think you don’t have a calling or a future, you think you’re nothing but you are something you’re not a delinquent you’re not a mistake. You’re not bad I don’t care what my mom says, you are a part of the family you’re my family…”
“I absolutely unconditionally adore you and love you with my heart and soul.”

Being woken up at 7 the following morning wasn’t something you had wanted or needed the day after binge drinking. You kept your eyes closed not wanting the hangover to start just yet. You were woken up by the sound of Chris banging on the kitchen counter, more than likely trying to get your best friend to wake up.
Anytime anyone, even you, fell asleep in the lounge, he did his best to annoy them into leaving. Anytime you told him to fuck off he would use the argument that it was his flat and he could do what he wanted.
Your head starts to throb when you hear Chris moaning at Y/B/F for being on the sofa. You hear him yell a nasty comment at her and the next minute you hear your door crack open and feel your friend get in bed next to you.
“Hate that fucker” She murmurs, and you smile to yourself.
“Gunna look for a new flat later and we’ll move in together and leave him high and dry” You sleepily tell her before you fall unconscious again.
When your eyes reopen, the clock in your room shows 11:47am and you let out a loud groan. The light that filled your room is blinding and you pull your duvet over your eyes to get used to the idea of being awake. You hear your best friend tapping away on her phone in the mornings silence that always takes place when you either of you stay over.
You get your phone from the table beside you, ready to look through the memes that she’s probably already tagged you in. When you unlock your phone however, you are blinded by the brightness of it which immediately intensifies your headache. You turn your brightness the lowest it will go and start looking through your phone.
After silently laughing at memes on Facebook for 10 minutes you start to look through some other apps on your phone. That’s when you see you have a few text messages and you tap on them curiously.
You roll your eyes when you see the name ‘Daddy’ pop up on your screen. You tap on the message and smile at your phone.
How’s your head this morning?
You quickly type your reply:
Morning Matty. Heads a bit fucked and feel disgusting but it’s nothing a McDonalds can’t fix. What about you? x
As soon as it sent, you loudly say, “Shit”
Your friend turns over to you and asks what was wrong and you show her your phone. She let out a loud squeal which hurt your ears and you stuff your head under the pillow.
“What’s your problem? Matty Healy is texting you and your acting like a fucking baby” Y/B/F tells you and you let out a sigh.
“I accidentally sent him a kiss, he’s going to think I want his dick even more now. For fucks sake” You say, throwing your phone to the other end of your bed.
“What do you mean ‘even more’?” She asks curiously and you look at her.
You forgot to tell her. She’s going to fucking lose it.
“Matty’s tongue may or may not have been down my throat last night, and then he punched a guy for me” You tell her, and she screams, and you head starts to bang.
After 10 minutes of you having to answer her questions, you’ve had enough and need to escape at least for a few minutes. You felt disgusting.
You walked into your flat’s shared bathroom and saw the mess that was yourself in the mirror. Your hair desperately needed brushing and your smudged make up needed to be removed.
After a good wash, you felt somewhat human again, apart from your head and stomach causing you pain. You make went back into your room and sat at the end of your bed, opposite your friend. She tells you that she’s just ordered you both your usuals from McDonalds and you couldn’t wait.
When your text alert went off, both you and your best friend stop immediately and look down at your phone. She tries to reach for it, but you got a hold of it faster.
The message read: Heads fine, just my lips are swollen but can’t seem to remember why??? Any ideas? x
You let out a loud groan and show your friend. She just starts grinning at you like a mad man.
“I don’t know what to say” You tell her almost pouting, silently pleading for her to help you.
However, she gets herself up and out of bed and heads out of your room, presumably to the toilet.
“You can’t go to the bathroom now I need your help” You shout after her, but she doesn’t reply.
You stare at your phone for a minute before deciding it was just best for you to reply sarcastically. You hesitate before pressing send but then you thought, ‘fuck it’.
If worse came to worst, you could say you were still drunk when you next saw him.
I don’t know, I seem to recall you getting lucky and having the best pull of your life 😂 How’s your hand? (Sorry again) x
Whilst your friend was still out of the room, you got yourself changed into some comfy clothes and thankfully the food arrives a 10 minutes later. You and Y/B/F just started eating the fatty food when your phone goes off again.
Well I wouldn’t go quite that far but glad to know that’s how you felt about it. The hands fine, the dick had it coming. Stop apologising xx
You quickly reply:
Okay sorry😂 And don’t get ahead of yourself Matty, wasn’t that good… I’ve had better things in my mouth, like this…
You send a picture of your McDonalds before you carry on eating it. You and your best friend gossip about last night’s antics and about the band.
She kept of telling you about how cute Ross was, but then she would change to Adam, and then to George. She tells you that she caught Matty staring at you a few times and you shake your head.
You didn’t believe a word.
Matty’s next reply came a few minutes later and it made you nearly choke on your food.
We’ll just have to try harder next time then, won’t we? x
You and Matty ended up chatting on and off for the rest of the day and you were getting excited to start doing what you loved every day. When you texted Alec about having to quit at the bar, he told you that he didn’t want to see you in again unless you were having a drink yourself. He even told you that you didn’t have to work your shift that night which you felt relieved about.
You spent the day looking at new flats and found a good one that you and Y/F/N could share, and you started packing up your stuff. You were just going to leave and not tell Chris, you’d had enough of his bullshit over the years and you had only ever been his roommate because of how cheap it was. You luckily didn’t have a contract with him so you couldn’t wait to leave.
The next day, you went to view the new flat with your best friend and you were beyond excited. You thankfully had enough money from the ballet photography to put a deposit down on the place, and by the time the rent was due the money from Dirty Hit would already be in your bank.
However, Y/B/F told you that she didn’t feel like she had enough money to move in with you because of how expensive it was. The place was big and a little posh, but you just agreed with her that it now wasn’t a problem for you, and she could just give you what she was paying now.
She was your best friend and you’d always spoken about living with her one day. You were just happy that you’d finally caught a break you could make that dream come true for you both.
You managed to get her to completely agree to move in with you when you told he she could have the bigger bedroom because you would be away a lot. Not that you minded, you’d rather be on tour with your favourite band.
When Monday rolls around, you were packed up completely and couldn't wait to move in later after work. You had texted George the day before to see what time they wanted you at the studio.
Matty had told you 7am but you somehow didn’t believe him. You got there at 10am, like George had told you, and you had bought the guys a coffee each and picked up some chocolate.
When you walk in the boys all looked pleased to see you. You were dressed in skinny black jeans with an oversized black hoodie on and your hair was in a messy bun at the top of your head. If you hadn’t of done your make up like usual you were certain they would have thought you were a tramp.
Your belief was confirmed by Ross smirking over to you, asking if you were, “Still rough?”
You sent a sarcastic laugh his way as you rested the coffees down on the coffee table in the middle of the sofas. You were in a really good mood and felt like your life was in order.
You never thought you’d be so excited for a first day at a new job.
“I’m actually fine, thanks for asking Ross” You tell him as you hand him his coffee and distributed the other ones to the other lads.
They all thank you and you just can’t take the smile off your face. You then remember the chocolate bars that were in the pocket of your hoodie and grab one.
You get the attention of the man with brown curly hair and throw it to him.
He catches it and smiles up at you realising it was the same as the one you gave him on the train. You playfully wink at him before taking a bite out of your own.
“So, Y/N, what did you do with your weekend?” George asks as he moved towards the mixing desk.
“It’s been productive actually” You tell him before taking a sip of your cappuccino.
“Chris was a fucking dick to Y/B/F on Saturday morning, so I’ve decided to move. I’ve even put deposit down on a place yesterday and I’m gunna start moving my stuff over later today”
You take a seat next to Adam and start to get your laptop and camera out as the guys ask you numerous questions about your living situation with Chris. You tell them everything they want to know, like why you lived with him anyway and they asked if you needed any help moving.
You tell them that you’d be fine because Alec was going to be helping you. When you told Alec about your plans, he insisted that he would help you.
Once you chat for a few minutes, you start taking a few pictures of them being normal people instead of rockstars. They didn’t seem to mind that you’d started snapping pictures of them.
Ross pulled a few silly faces at you and Matty lay across his free sofa saying, “Paint me like one of your French girls”.
You couldn't stop laughing at him when he said that and after you brought the picture back up on your camera, you show it to Adam. He also seems amused by the picture, especially when you zoom in on Matty’s face.
“Sexy” Adam states, and you hum in fake agreement.
The face he pulled made him look as if he’d been modelling for years. Which you guess he sort of had because of all the photoshoots the band had done over the years.
George starts the boys off the day by asking Adam if he wanted to do another take of something which he agreed to immediately. You watch as Adam went into the recording booth and you stood up to watch but George waves you over to the desk.
You stand behind him and watch as Adam picks up his guitar through the glass window that separates you. Ross takes a seat on the sofa behind you and Matty goes to the other side of the desk and drags his chair over next to George.
As he’s about to take his seat, you quickly move in front it from the other side. You smirk up at him and victoriously grin, “Awh, thanks Matty”
Matty looks down at you with wide eyes and you maintain eye contact, grinning at him. Ross and George let out an extremely loud laugh at the situation they just saw unfold.
George chuckles, “I fuckin’ love her”
“Awh yes! Best buddy George” You smile at him
He wraps an arm around your shoulder which you lean in to, appreciating the side hug. You look up at Matty, still grinning, and he just shakes his head at you and turns his attention towards Adam who’s strums his guitar in the next room.
George lets go of you and returns to tapping away on the computer and telling Adam to the “Go for it” over the microphone. You watch what he does in awe because you had no idea what all the different bars on the screen meant or why he kept fiddling with the buttons on the mixing desk.
When Adam starts playing riff on the electric guitar you lent back in your chair and watched as the screen picks up the recording and sound waves were now appearing. You averted your attention to Adam playing and you couldn’t keep the smile off your face. You take a couple of photos of him through the window but make sure the flash was off, so you didn’t distract him
When you put your camera down on the table, you feel Matty rest his hands on the back of your chair which makes you lean further into your seat. You tilt your head back and look up at him, he looks down at you and smile.
After a second, you pick your head back up and carry on watching Adam now doing an awesome guitar solo and you got more excited.
Matty took his hands off your seat and then starts to pull the pins out of your hair that were holding your bun in place. After a few seconds, Matty had collected all the pins from your head and it was now messily down.
Luckily it was freshly washed and straightened, you just wanted it out of your way for moving later on.
However, Matty starts to ruffle it up by running his fingers through it. Despite his actions being extremely smoothing, you tilt your head back to look at him again but this time you shoot him an annoyed glare, but you couldn’t keep the smile off your face.
His fingers continue to mess up your hair, taking handfuls of it at a time and tugging it through his fingers. You shake your head slightly when he pokes his tongue out at you and you let out a small laugh before returning your attention towards the music that was being made.
George then looks towards you and you smile brightly at him, but you see his eyes go to your head, then up to Matty, and then presumably over to Ross. Once his gaze as returns to you, you roll your eyes at him in jest as to what Matty is doing to you.
George laughs, “Mate, you aren’t going to annoy her out of her seat like that. She’s enjoying it”
Matty’s hands then immediately leave you hair and you let out a gasp at George.
“Best buddy George, that’s not cool outing me like that… Getting a free head massage there” You say in jest and nudge him slightly.
You both laugh and you run your own fingers through your hair to flatten it down. Matty plonks a stool in-between the two of you and he looks towards you annoyed.
You giggle to yourself as the music stops and George stops the recording a moment later.
“Come and listen Hann” Matty says through the microphone and he makes his way into the room again, perching on the back of the sofa near Ross.
“Wait, am I about to hear a new song?” You ask excitedly, clasping your hands together and your face is beaming with excitement. They all look at you with grins on their faces and George lets out a little laugh.
“Yeah we thought we had it done earlier but Hann found something he wasn’t happy with… Are you prepared for the finished product?” Matty asks.
You clear your throat and run a hand through your hair. Then you sit up straight and release a deep breath before saying, “Alright, my body is ready”
They all laugh at you, and Matty grins, “Funny you should say that”
You give him a questioning look not understanding, but George chuckles before pressing play.
You put a hand over your mouth in an attempt to hide your grin from them. You swivel your chair around, so they are all in your field of vision and they all seem to be waiting for your approval.
As the music starts, you hear what sounds to you like muddled guitar notes, yet it sounds really tranquil. Especially when a females angelic vocals start accompanying it.
After that, guitar chords start playing straight after each other with the last being sustained until it starts over again, creating a slow riff. You already love it and it hadn't even kicked in yet.
Just after the riff was played twice though the drums kicked in and you couldn't help but look to George. He grinned at you as the song began properly and you were already nodding your head along to the beat.
You can’t even deny how much you love it. It is quite literally music to your ears, and you end up laughing when you look at Adam and Ross.
They are all chuckling at your reaction, and your jaw ends up dropping when you hear the sax come into the song. You look to Ross when that part is finished and say loudly, “Waughy fucking kills it!” and you bite your lip seeing how they all seem to be enjoying your reaction.
You can’t help but catch Matty’s eyes when the chorus comes in and you hear Matty sing, “Maybe I would like you better if you took off your clothes”
When it gets to John Waugh’s sax solo, you lose any sense of control you once had. You start playing air saxophone along with the music, still bopping your head up and down and each one of them lets out a laugh and you start laughing as well.
When it ends with the 3 beats, your head is hurting but you’re so excited.
“I fucking love it so much!” You beam at them all and they all chuckle again.
“If you’re gunna be like this every time we play a new song, this could be a very interesting year” Ross says, and you hold your hands up.
“Well Matty knew how obsessed I was before I became employed to photograph you… But yeah don’t be surprised if I end up jumping up and down whilst you’re performing”
“I expect to see that” Adam says, and you promise him that he would.
“I’ll save a dance just for you Adam I promise” You grin.
“Right Hann…” Matty starts, “Are you happy with that one or do you want one more?”
“I think I can do it better, one more time” He says and goes back into the other room. Once it’s recorded again and Adam is happy with it they all took a seat on the sofas.
You were still so excited from hearing the new song that you really wanted more.
“Georgeee, Mattyyyy, Rossss, Adammm” You drag their names out with a clear cheeky smile on your face.
They all looked towards you confused as to why you were acting like that. This was the happiest they had ever seen you, not that they had much to go on.
“What?” Matty asked blatantly.
“Can I pleaseeee listen to the Notes On A Conditional From version of The 1975 by The 1975. Pleaseee” You plead.
You watch as they all look at each other debating if they actually would or not. You saw smiles on Ross’ and Adams faces as they looked between George and Matty.
Matty turns back around to you with a smile on his face and says, “No”
Your smile falls and you looked at them with pleading eyes. “Guys please… I bought you coffee” You say to try and get them to give in, but they were having any of it.
“Bribery will get you nowhere Y/N” Ross jokes, and you pout when they get up to go back to work and you take a seat on one of the free sofas.
Your back to joking around with them in no time and you watch them as they get on with what they had to do. Later in the day, you’re playing with the settings on your camera and when notice Ross sat across from you playing a few notes on the bass. You adjust the focus on the camera, so he looks pristine and go to take the picture.
However, Matty decided in at that moment he would jump over the back of sofa you were on. You look towards him immediately sending a glare his way and he just smiled cheekily at you. You let out a huff and go to take the picture of Ross again leaving Matty to be Matty.
When you take it and check that it’s actually good you go back to looking for something else to take. You can feel Matty’s eyes on you as you look for something else to photograph and when you can’t immediately see anything you look back towards him and smile.
Your Y/E/C eyes connect with his brown ones and he smiles at you. You stay like that for a few seconds, just simply enjoying the others company. But then your attention is then diverted to George playing about with bits of music on the computer and carry on taking pictures.
After a few minutes, you turn your attention back to Matty and see that he’s now got his head resting on the back of the sofa and his eyes are closed. He looks like he’d fallen asleep but he still had a big smile on his face. He looks adorable and you quickly snap a picture of him like that.
Before you even remove your eye from the camera lens, you see that he’s opened his eyes and is giving you a playful dirty look. Your softly giggling when he pulls his tongue out at you, but you make the most of it and quickly get a picture of him like that too.
You then move the camera away from your eye and quickly go to look at it. After bringing the preview up, you cannot keep the smile from your face.
You laugh as you show it to him, and Matty smiles back at you. You end up getting your laptop out and start editing the good pictures you’d taken.
All of the boys had come over to you one by one throughout the day to observe what you were up to. They asked you quite a few questions as well which you happily answered.
By the time they were all calling it quits for the day, you’d uploaded the one of Matty’s adorable face to your Instagram.
You’d changed it to black and white which make it seem more peaceful. Within an hour of tagging him in the picture you’d received hundreds of new followers and thousands of likes.
It was mind-blowing. You definitely wouldn’t get used to that attention anytime soon.
~*~*~*~
The weeks seemed to fly by as you photographed the boys. Within the first week you’d managed to move into your new flat peacefully and abandoned Chris.
You’d blocked his number from your phone and left him a wordy message on the counter along with your keys. You’d managed to get all of your stuff out of the flat whilst Chris was doing the late shift’s at work, so you were extremely happy you didn’t have to deal with his bullshit anymore.
You felt free and you felt like you’d accumulated a new family.
The guys had been awesome with you, considering you were sort of invading their space. You quickly realised that the first day you were with them, they had been acting very civilised toward each other because they were in your company.
However, as the weeks went by their true colours started to show. The boys still acted like a bunch of teenaged lads, shouting at each other and getting annoyed if something was in their way.
Matty was the worst for it.
If something was on the floor or in his way, he would yell at whoever it was that it belonged to. You’d been a target a few times for leaving your rucksack on the floor near the sofa or on the coffee table. It was funny seeing them in their natural habitat, always getting on each other’s nerves.
You definitely wouldn’t get bored of their antics and how something different happened each day. When you walked in one morning, they had played the song you’d so desperately asked them for really loud and you practically threw your bags on the sofa screaming along, “GO DOWN GO DOWN SOFT SOUND!”
You were stood near the computer with your arms raised as if praying to god as you screamed the lyrics. Thankfully they were playing the music that loud that the boys definitely wouldn’t have been able to hear how awful you sounded.
They had left you in a hyper mood for the rest of that day and you were beyond excited to eventually hear the rest of the album. You already knew it was going to be amazing.
When they had dropped the first single off Notes on a Conditional Form you all spent most of the day looking though social media seeing what people thought about it. You had adored it when they first played it for you.
People was a true bop. Not what you were expecting by any means, but you actually really liked it.
Definitely a good way to start off the new tour and you could already visualise the crowd buzzing when the drums kicked in. But you think that Give Yourself A Try would always be your favourite opener.
You shared with them all the funny comment that you were finding and at one point you and Ross started saying the same one out loud and you both burst out laughing before even finishing the comment. You’d made loads of fun memories with them whilst being in the studio as well
One time, you and Adam were sat on the sofa next to each other and he had one of his guitars in his hands. Out of nowhere he started playing the start of Girls. Your head shot around and looked at him with wide eyes.
“Oh my god” You said in shock.
“That was everything, please do it again?” You asked and you intently watched as he did it.
When you gasped, the boys around you chuckled. They all loved how enthusiastic you were about their music. When you asked Adam if he would teach you to play it, he agreed immediately and you were over the moon.
Every other day, when you both found yourselves having nothing to do, he went and got his guitar and you borrowed Matty’s. He taught you all the basic chords first and made you practice them which was tedious at first.
But after a few weeks, you felt yourself getting better and he only moved on to start leaning the song you could play all the chords from memory. It was like a game for you. Adam would say a chord and you would play it for him. It was only a week before the tour was due to start that he’d started teaching you the actual song.
You and George had quickly become the best friends that you joked about. You found yourself annoying him most of the time when you were bored, and he would do the same to you.
At one point, George was at his desk and you were next to him as you watched and listened to Matty record some vocals for a song named Playing On My Mind. You were taking pictures of him through the window and he kept winking at you as he sang.
You ended up leaving the pictures for another time because you didn’t know how much more of Matty’s flirting you could take. The flirting had been going on for a long while and you were playing it off as if it was nothing.
You played along the odd time to keep the banter up and it was funny when you pied him off to sit with Ross. His face was brilliant when Ross pulled you into him and you didn’t move out of his grip like you had done 5 minutes previously with Matty.
You turned your camera off and put it down on the desk and watched as George started sliding things on the mixing desk and twisting dials.
“What does that do?” You asked every time he adjusted something, and he explained everything in the simplest way he could.
He told you that you could slide something up for him and when you did it, he cheered and explained what you just did.
You looked at him and said, “Awesome I can say I produced a 1975 song now.” George let out a loud laugh and you started chuckling along with him.
“I’m being serious George” You half laughed as you nudged his shoulder playfully.
His hair fell over the side of his face as he looked back towards you. He was so adorable, you loved his long hair.
“I expect to be credited” You state with a serious expression but then you both end up laughing. George joked saying that he would make sure you were credited for that one thing you did in the song.
Matty and you had grown to be good friends the past few weeks as well. He was extremely sassy with you and there was constant flirting between the two of you, but you knew it was all just for a laugh.
You always found yourself in situations with the man though. One time you were all watching a movie together in the studio and you were resting your back against him chest as you were sat in between his legs.
Your head was resting on his chest and he was holding you against him with one of his loving headlocks. You were so comfortable that time that you nearly fell asleep on him.
Other cute moments like that had happened between the two of you all the time.
For example, the previous week Matty had found a red sharpie and was looking desperately looking for something to colour in. You were waving a blank piece of paper at him when he noticed your tattoo again. He practically begged you to let him colour the roses in and you didn’t have the heart to tell him no.
You were all currently in the studio sat eating a McDonalds chatting away to each other.
“You ready for Monday Y/N/N?” Adam asks and you laugh.
Monday was the day you were all flying to Arizona to start the tour. You were all being flown over a week early and you weren’t prepared at all.
“God no, I haven’t even started packing yet” You tell them honestly before biting into your burger.
They then all tell you different things that they have found that they’ve needed over the years of them touring and you made a mental note of the necessities.
“Yeah that’s all good, but are you all prepared for two months of constant me?” You ask them with a cheeky grin
However, you aren't impressed when they all groan.
“Hey!” You laugh, “I’m great to live with”
You look around them and see them all smiling at what you said, well, all except for Matty. He was looking at you with disbelief written all over his features.
“I’m gunna stay with Rome” Matty announces and George and Ross agree.
“Fine by me, Adam’s my favourite anyway” You grin.
You smile at Adam and he sends a playful wink back at you causing you to softly giggle. He may be your new mate but he was still Adam Hann, so you tried to hide your cheeks going hot as best you could.
“Thought we were best friends?” George asks you whilst putting his arm around your shoulder.
You pick up your phone showing your disinterest and say, “We were” not looking at him.
He pulls you into him some more and you end up falling into his chest. You pretend like it’s not one of the best feelings ever and start kicking up a fuss.
“For fucks sake, why do you and Matty feel the need to put me in headlocks. Do you have some weird kink or something?” You ask.
You can just about see Matty because of your impaired vision as George has now trapped you against his chest with his arm around your neck.
You see the curly haired brunette smirk in your direction before he says, “Yeah it’s a choking one, get used to it”
~*~*~*~*~*~
You were petrified. You had never felt so much pressure in your life. The guys were sat around on sofas in front of you and they were just chatting as if nothing was about to happen.
However, you could hear the rumble from the crowd as they sang along to Pale Waves music and Rome, who was the sweetest guy ever, had just walked in to wish the guys luck.
But other than that, the room that you were all in backstage was completely silent. Everything but your boot tapping away nervously on the ground.
George was sat opposite you swirling drum sticks around his fingers and Adam was next to him and looked as if he was asleep. Ross was pacing around the room in circles and Matty was sat next to you.
It felt like the calm before the storm and you felt sick. You could feel your heart pounding in your chest and your hands were sweaty from holding your camera. You swallow and let out a sigh, wiping your hands on your jeans wishing something would just distract you.
Your brain was on overdrive with a million questions running through your head at once.
What if you couldn’t get a decent shot all night? What happened if the pictures you took weren’t good enough for Jamie? What if you weren't good enough?
You would get sacked and you would lose your new flat and you would be homeless. The boys hadn’t even been round to see it yet and you were going to lose it and lose them at the same time.
You were spiralling and you were starting to panic, but thankfully Matty was observant. Matty had noticed your leg bouncing up and down for the past 5 minutes.
It was slow at first when he’d started to focus on your movements. He noticed how you moved your hair back behind your ear every time it fell forward and how you kept checking your camera to make sure everything was working.
Matty could feel the anxiety pouring out of you and he didn’t know what to say to help you. This was second nature to him now so he did the only thing he could think that may give you some comfort.
Matty took a hold of your hand and held it tightly. He didn’t look at you as he did so, he just wanted you to know that he was there and that he understood.
You look towards Matty and you felt his grip on your hand tighten slightly, but he didn’t make eye contact with you. You felt as if he was alleviating your stress by a simple act of kindness.
You smile in his direction and clutch his hand tightly. Matty saw that you had stopped anxiously moving around and you were now perfectly still.
You both stay in that tranquil state for the next 5 minutes and you felt at ease. Matty’s thumb had started caressing the back of your hand and your mind had now gone numb.
However, when a runner came in and gave you the 5-minute call your heart rate picked up again and your grip on Matty’s hand tightened as you took a deep breath.
He returns the pressure before he lets go of your hand when you get up. You look down at him with grateful eyes and he could see you silently thanking him.
He innocently winked up at you with a smile on his face and nods his head. You look around to the other boys whose attentions were now on you.
“Good luck out there guys” You smile.
“Adam, I’ll do that dance for you during Love Me so keep an eye out” You laugh as you make your way to the door.
You look back and blow a kiss at them before you say, “Look pretty for me boys”
When you make it out and stand in front of the stage you see that you’re going to have to manoeuvre through the cameramen that litter around the stage. You look to the crowd and see the excited faces of the girls at the front and they flash smiles in your direction. You can feel the buzz in the room because they all know it’s nearly time.
You felt like you were at one of their concerts again. Listening to the Love Theme that was playing, feeling your accelerated heartbeat and hearing the chatter of thousands of other people around you. Now you just had the privilege of not being shoved around whilst still getting the best view.
Before you even had time to think the background music had faded and their iconic theme was starting to play, and you couldn’t help but shout along. When the strobe lights started you got your camera ready and you could see their forms come out from backstage and take their positions.
When they start playing decided you would try and get pictures of George first because you didn’t want all of his pictures to consist of him being a sweaty mess. As the start of People started playing you couldn’t help but get lost in the music.
You found yourself singing along as you started taking pictures. You could feel the vibrations drums hitting your body. You tried to lean against the stage to focus your camera on him, but you could feel the sturdy structure vibrating.
You managed to get a few decent photos of him and decided that later you would just go back stage and get some closer ones. You got a few of Matty really quickly as you couldn't really not do. This was the first time they had done the song live and you knew Jamie would want pictures of him singing it.
After you got a few though, your attention diverted to the other boys. You got a really good one of Ross that you knew he would be pleased with later on.
You got a few more of him before switching to Adam. You were at the centre of the stage taking a picture of him when the lights went out after the first song had finished and the crowd erupted.
It was scary how much noise was being projected from the thousands of people around you but at the same time it increased the adrenaline pumping through your system. You could hear the boys start playing TooTime and when the lights came back on you looked to your left and saw Matty dancing.
You let out a chuckle and quickly took a picture of George whilst directly in front of him. Thankfully, you managed to get it just in time before Matty walked back over and walked in front of your camera.
You looked up at him and he made eye contact with you as he started to sing the song. You could see the humour in them, confirming that he did actually want to ruin the picture.
Matty watches as you start to singing along to TooTime with him. He could see the excitement in your features, the big grin on your lips, wild looking eyes, and you nodding your head up and down to the beat.
He quickly winked at you and went back to entertaining.
From your position you managed to get pictures of the other 3 boys easily. You decided Matty was easy to photograph, you would get the best ones of him later on.
However, Matty had other ideas.
He’d not noticed you point the camera at him once, so when he had to go to the middle of the stage so the Jaiy twins could join him, he quickly came over to the front of the stage and ruffled your hair. You were so confused because you were in the middle of taking a picture of Ross and hadn’t even seen him come over.
You look up at him, not really caring about your hair just wondering why he did it. When your eyes met his you saw him make a camera sign with his hands and then point to himself. You shook your head at him laughing but you pick up your camera and point it up at him.
You take a few of him and the twins moving together in sync and then some of him when he ran to either side of the stage to get the audience going. You could hear them screaming when he danced, and you just laughed.
You were literally them 4 months ago and would have done the exact same thing.
As the concert continues on, you find yourself having the time of your life. You felt like you were getting decent pictures and you got to watch your favourite band perform your favourite songs at the same time. When you heard the start of Love Me start playing you let out a scream along with the rest of the crowd.
You manoeuvre towards Adam’s side of the stage and start jumping up and down and messing around. You giggle when Adam looks up from his guitar and make eye contacts with you.
It’s even cuter when his grin doesn’t leave his face the whole time he’s playing. You’re certain that he let out a laugh at your giddy dancing too.
You quickly take a few pictures of him like that before you head back over to Ross. Before you went backstage to get some pictures of George, you took a few more of Matty dancing in front of the crowd and then disappear into the sea of crew members.
You went to the right side of the stage and start taking pictures of George. You were getting some awesome ones of him and his hair flying around everywhere. You had just started to take another few when you heard a crew member start yelling for someone to give Matty his stuff.
No one seemed to be listening to him so you just said you would do it.
You let your camera dangle over your shoulder as you take the rucksack, the rabbit hat, and the headphones from the very grateful man. You watch as he ran off to do something else and you turn your attention towards the stage.
Within 30 seconds, Love Me had ended and Matty was in front of you. He smiles when he sees you and you help him slip the green backpack on. When he turns back around, you put the hat on him, covering up his sweaty wild curls, and he then slips the headphones on over it.
Matty leans forward and asks you, “You having fun?”
“Yeah, you’re all fucking awesome” You tell him shouting down his ear over the noise of the crowd.
You feel his hand on your waist to steady himself and you rest your hand on his shoulder. You can hear the opening chords to Sincerity is Scary start playing and your pat his shoulder.
“Get back out there you” You tell him and move away slightly to smile at him.
You hear him say, “Wish me luck” before he quickly he pecks the side of your mouth.
Your taken aback by his actions but you can’t help but smile at him as he runs back on stage. You feel your face heat up a bit, but you ignore it and turn yourself back around to go down to the front of the stage again.
You thankfully don’t have time to over think Matty’s kiss because the concert takes over your mind completely. When they started playing Robbers, Matty says his little speech and you give yourself this one song to just enjoy their music.
You love the song with the whole of your heart and something in the room changes when they started singing it. It was magical.
Multiple things happened throughout the concert that you don’t think you would ever forget. For example, when you make eye contact with Ross and he motioned for you to look behind you and all you could see was a sea of stars. It was extraordinary and you try to get as many pictures of it as you could.
When they sang Fallingforyou, Matty gets down onto the floor so you manage to get some close up pictures of him there. But you knew what was about to happen. He’s done it at each concert he’d performed the song at, which was pretty much all of them.
The only time you recall he hadn’t done it was on the I Like It When You Sleep tour, but you presumed that was only because he was going out with Gabby.
You watch him as he picked his prey from the front of the crowd but for some reason you couldn’t bring yourself to take a picture of it.
You turn away from him and start to take pictures of George whilst Matty wasn’t in your way. You can hear the commotion from the crowd behind you and you look to the screens on either side of the stage that show Matty kissing a random girl.
You avert your gaze immediately, trying not to let it bother you but the flirting and the playfulness you’d received over the past few months all came back to mind. You were starting to let jealousy get the better of you, but you force yourself to swallow it down.
You smile brightly towards Ross as you take his picture, and you loved the way his how sweaty head of hair hung over his face as he played. He looked really attractive.
The concert seemed to be quickly come to an end after that moment. You put it down to the buzz of Chocolate, The Sound and Sex being played after each other.
You wouldn’t even deny that you sang along loudly to each one as you continued to take your pictures.
Before they left the stage, you managed to get a few pictures of them all before the room went dark and Goodbye was plastered on the screen in front of you, with the blatant voice telling the crowd to leave.
As the droning “Goodbye” continued on, you made your way back up to the room you were all sat in before the show started. As you start walking, you felt how hot and sweaty you’d gotten. You felt disgusting but your adrenaline was so high that you didn’t really care.
As you walk back into the room you were greeted with a big hug from Ross who seemed to be buzzing with energy. You hug him back tightly, telling him how awesome he was before you then moved on to Adam who was eagerly awaiting a hug from you.
As he embraces you, he says over the noisy room, “Loved the dance.”
You hug him tighter and grin, “Just for you Adam I promise”
Once he let go of you, you were then embraced from behind in a headlock and you knew from the second his skin touched yours that it was Matty. You smile and try to look around him whilst holding onto his arm with your hands.
You feel him place a kiss on your cheek as you try your best to look at the singer. You laugh and quickly remove yourself from the headlock so you can turn to give him a proper hug.
Your hands go around his neck and his go around your waist meaning that when he attempted it, it was really easy to pick you up and spin you around.
You were a giggling mess when he put you down and he asks, “Did you enjoy yourself?”
“Of course, I fucking did!” You said loudly and he laughed releasing you from his grip. “You were amazing”
“Thank you Darling” Matty grins at you before tucking a piece of your slightly sweaty hair back behind your ear where he knew you liked it being.
After giving him an appreciative smile, you look around for George, but you notice that he isn’t in the room.
Matty seems to notice who you’re looking for, so he informs you, “He’s gone for a shower… He was very sweaty”
You nod understandingly, saying “Same” and Matty grins back at you.
He pulls you into another hug and says into your ear, “We can be sweaty messes together” and you shake your head and bite your lip.
You let out a soft chuckle and raise your eyebrows at him suggestively. Matty grins back at you but them your attention is diverted to the door.
George walks into the room shirtless with just his blue jeans on. His hair was dripping wet and you see his damp, chiselled chest glistening with droplets of water running down it.
You don’t even attempt to stop yourself from looking at him up and down. You’d seen pictures before, but he’d toned up since the last you’d seen. He looked fucking amazing.
Before you even realise what you say, the words escape from your lips, “Fuck me”
All eyes in the room were now on you and you let out nervous laughter and Matty’s dropped his grip on your waist.
Thankfully, George laughs and says, “Get over here then” raising his arms out to you.
You walk over to him and he embraces you into a bear hug and he refuses to let you go. You certainly didn’t mind about that, you'd stay there all night if he’d let you.
“Well done out there G” You say as you let go of him.
“Hope you got some good pictures of me Y/N/N” George tells you as he puts on a new shirt.
‘Goodbye beautiful muscles’ You think selfishly.
You chuckle, “Don’t worry, I got you all covered”
You all start having random little conversations about the gig and they talk about how awesome it was. They all get excited when someone mentions how the audience went wild when they started singing She’s American.
You laugh and say, “Yeah, it’s funny though because like they are all singing it yet insulting themselves at the same time”
They all agree with you and then something sprang to mind, and you couldn’t stop yourself from asking. Whether it was a jealous part of you coming out or some other unknown reason, you found the words leaving your mouth.
“How was the American girl for you Matty? Good pull?” You ask.
His brown eyes meet yours and your heart drops when he confirms, “Yeah, she was good”
But a second later your heart skipped a beat when he smiles, “But not as good as you”
