(Pattern | Yarn)
I've been holding on to this yarn for a While trying to find the perfect pattern but eventually I've realized that. I will simply never find something that I ever feel like I would wear, because I will never wear this shade of yellow. So instead I impulse cast on this (free!!) shawl pattern that I thought was pretty and honestly I think the combo works pretty well. And more importantly, I could knit the first body lace without a pattern so I could work on it while recovering.
Well, I've finished the first lace section (Yucca chart). The large size says to do the Yucca chart 12 times but due to not being 100% confident in having enough yarn I've knit it 10 times (which should work according to the pattern). I'm almost sad this texture is going to block out for the final shawl, it's really delicious waffle cone flavoured.

I am calling this project done! It was supposed to be a blanket woven two panels at a time on my loom, but I ran out of steam after two panels, so it's a shawl now.

GUIDE TO MORI KEI!! 森系
mori kei is one of the many early 2000s subcultures that originated from the harajuku district inspired by living in the woods.
wearers of this type of clothing are usually referred to as mori girl (森ガール) or mori boy (森ボーイ). basically, forest girl/boy.
this subculture is based on nature and gives off a more elven/fae feel, its main color pallet consisting of earth tones, greens, whites, and other soft colors. plaid is a pattern that occasionally appears in mori kei fits, and sometimes baby blues and pinks will appear for a contrast to an outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you want to look for some clothing that would fit with this aesthetic, look for something loose and natural, and pieces that layer well together. such as a large cardigan/sweater vest that goes well with a frilly dress/skirt and leg warmers and tights. pants may also be used for a more masculine look.
"ゆるふわ" is what the loose layers achieve, hiding the curves of the body and therefore the wearer has a "fluffy" appearance. when layering, make sure to begin with the lightest/thinest layer first, and then move on to heavier materials.
lace, light materials, and embroidered clothes are musts, while accessories such as shawls, tights, and scarfs add to the layered effect.
linen, wool, and cotton are fabrics that are often used. fabrics that drape nicely will be your bff when creating a mori kei outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mori kei is actually quite similar to cottagecore, but while cottagecore is focused on a rural life, mori kei is more based on forests and nature itself.
It also expresses a love of the forest, quiet hobbies, reading, drinking tea, herbalism, and a natural lifestyle.
hair and makeup often match with the almost whimsical and natural look of the outfits. makeup is kept relatively basic, with use of colors such as beige, pinks, and golds. minimalistic igari makeup is a nice example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DARK MORI KEI/MORI GOTH
a subcategory of mori kei is mori goth, which uses darker, less saturated colors of the usually light color scheme of mori kei. it still follows the same layering scheme and relaxed silhouette, but as of now it has separated into strega, another subculture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YAMA KEI
a more practical subcategory, usually for fans of the outdoors who love hiking/camping. this includes brighter and more vivid colors while also reverting to more practical clothes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAMA KEI
hama kei is a beach-based section, with uses of lighter clothing and less layers, as well as blues and yellows. you'd also see things such as stripes, anchors, and denim to add to the sailor-like outfits

Elsa's Crochet Commission Info
So, it occurred to me that my editing and writing commission info had actual posts, which were linked in my pinned post, whereas my crochet commission info was just a separate page on my blog, which means all the people who only use mobile probably couldn't see it. Considering that, I figured I should make an actual post for my crochet commission stuff.
Things To Know:
I'll take three crochet commissions at a time, but they won't necessarily be first come, first serve. I'll probably work on all of them simultaneously, which means if Person A orders a shawl and then Person B orders a hat, Person B's hat will likely be done before Person A's shawl.
I do clothing items, accessories, plushies, blankets, etc.
I crochet. I do not knit. I do not know how to knit. I don't have any imminent plans to learn how to knit.
The price of the item will be determined by the complexity of the end result, the amount of time I estimate it will take, the type of yarn you want it made of (wool or cotton are more expensive than acrylic, alpaca is more expensive than sheep wool, etc.), and the cost of the pattern if you want a specific item and the pattern costs money.
Payment will be half up front, then half + shipping afterwards. I have Paypal and Venmo. (I prefer Venmo.)
The item will be made in an environment where cats and dogs are present, if you need to worry about allergies. I can't really feasibly escape them.
What To Do:
If you're interested, get in touch. You can DM me here on tumblr or email me at [email protected]. In the unlikely event I already have three commissions lined up, I'll let you know, but if you want I can let you know when a slot frees up later.
Give me as many details of what you want as you can.
If you haven't presented specific patterns and yarn choices, I will supply options for your approval.
Once the details are determined, I will give the price and you'll pay half.
I will commence working. I can offer a rough estimate of when the item will be finished, but I can't make any guarantees.
When I'm done, I will take photos and show you. You'll send the second half of the payment + shipping.
I will package up the item and give you the tracking info, and get it to the post office, at which point it is figuratively and literally out of my hands.
Assuming the post office doesn't shit the bed, your item will arrive! Yay! I don't require photos of you with the item, but I will appreciate them.

"Smile, Liebchen, we made it to America!"
With fingers benumbed by the cold February air, Louisa (Wilhelmina Louisa Augusta Munzenmaier, if you really want to know) clutches the bundle of blankets and clothing Mutti has given her as they make their way off the Athena.
It was a cold crossing, sailing from Bremen in late January 1867, but Mutti, Louisa, Freidrich, and August have finally made it to New York to join Papa, and Louisa's older brothers, Carl and Wilhelm. Papa and the boys have been working in New York, earning money to buy a farm in Texas before bringing the rest of the family across the ocean. Soon they will all be together again!
To keep warm, Louisa is wearing two petticoats under her outer skirt, one cotton and one wool. Her white blouse only reaches the elbow, in keeping with traditional clothing, so she wears knitted forearm warmers to cut down on the chill. Her blue shawl and plaid kerchief are warm and cozy, as does her black woolen vest buried beneath the shawl.
I've been doing some genealogical research into one side of my family, and found a great-grandmother who came from Germany with her mother and little brothers when she was seven, joining her father and older brothers in the US, so I have roughly based Louisa's story on hers. I've changed some of the names, ages and dates of crossing, but all are taken from family records.

Kirsten’s Plaid Dress and Shawl corresponds to the short story “Kirsten’s Promise.” Plaid was super duper popular in the 1850s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirsten’s shawl also has a woven-on pattern, so it’s difficult to see it in photographs. It looks like it’s more huck weaving, but I’m not sure. There’s a lot of meterials it could be.

Sparrow loves cats (Scene explanations below)
A digital sketch page featuring Sparrow from the Dungeons and Daddies podcast. There are five sections in five different colors. The top section is in dark green lineart. Sparrow is holding onto the catbus' cheeks and nuzzles the friendly cat. Since he is so happy, his inherent druid plant stuff is sprouting from his hair and floating around him in the form of petals and flowers. There are also hearts around him and above the catbus. There's an arrow pointing away from this sketch and it gestures to another green scene: a wild shape cat form Sparrow resting on top the catbus' head. He has a plaid scarf and glasses on with the phrase be cute, do crimes next to them. On the left side of the canvas is a scene sketched in dull pink lineart. Sparrow is napping in the forest near his home. He is laying on a patchwork blanket he made and has a few items laying around him: picnic basket, glasses, a book, and his drawings. Sparrow has three stray cat friends resting with them. Another cat looks at them curiously from a distance. On the bottom left is the focal point sketch scene drawn in blue lineart. Sparrow is wearing a dress, shawl, and light scarf while walking down the street. He stops to pet a stray cat sitting on the neaby brick wall. There seems to be some flower bushes planted in the wall divider too. This is the same curious cat from the pink scene. On the center right is a red sketch scene. Sparrow has set up a little cat sanctuary for their cat friends. They are wearing a big and soft sweater and long skirt while sitting on a wooden stool. They drink tea while smiling. There are two wooden circular tables, a big cat tree, and cat toys hanging from some easy to remove string. Two cats are also nearby. One plays with the flowers and plant bits flowing around Sparrow. The other kitty is relaxing on a hand-made blanket and watching Sparrow. There is also a sneaky third kitty peeking out from beside the cat tree and a sign hanging up that says cat cafe with a question mark. The last sketch on the bottom right is drawn in brown lineart. Sparrow sits in front a big canvas and has a cup filled with brushes plus a paint tube beside him on the table to his left. Sparrow is drawing a somewhat realistic looking cat with a white nose and otherwise dark fur and whiskers. The cat is facing the right. I've been thinking of Sparrow as a non-binary person who uses any pronouns--but I noticed I haven't been alternating pronouns much so I'm going to try doing that more for her in future art/writing things.

Okay, what should I wear for 5 hours at church on Easter while playing violin in the balcony poll time. Fits under the cut
Outfit 1
Tumblr media
White shirt, long pink skirt (that I rarely wear for literally no reason, I love it), and shawl I crocheted last year. The skirt is kind of tight around my waist, and the outfit doesn't look too very fancy, but I think it's still solid
Outfit 2
Tumblr media
Blue skirt I wear a lot, pink shirt that I got to match it but rarely wear with it, and black shawl. I'm wearing the shawl to the Good Friday services so it might be a little weird to wear it for Easter, too, but I'll be up in the balcony for practically the entire time, so does it really matter?
Outfit 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my mom's favorite out of all of them. Navy blue and pink dress with a pink cardigan. The dress is a little bit tight and the cardigan is a little too small, but other than that it's the prettiest out of all the options. Idk how I feel about it though, as I'll be out of sight for both services
Outfit 4
Tumblr media
This one's a backup in case I'm not feeling a skirt. Beige/brown plaid pants, pink shirt, colorful shawl. I might also wear it with black pants if I'm not feeling the plaid. Actually, black might look better, so I might wear black instead. My mom hates the plaid pants so she said ew no, but I like them, and no one's gonna see me anyway 😉
Anyway, scroll up and vote plz, I'm so indecisive 😅
Also, if you have any outfit suggestions based on the pictures, please tell me, even though I don't need any more options lol

I've patterned my plaid. I'm not calling it a pattern so much as a map. I've taken the tartans of the two clans I'm descended from, and written my map based off of that. It's my first project I plan on knitting a swatch for, because I want to be absolutely sure that it looks right. But my end goal is to knit myself a shawl to wear of it!
