Day 1315 - I have been on a quest for awhile to have a totally waste-free period, but haven't quite pulled it off yet. However, for the last several months I have been down to a single disposable product each. And that's still progress to celebrate!

To all my strong sisters, Happy International Women’s Day! I’m taking this chance to open up about a topic that we don’t normally talk about here and yet, it’s the very thing that makes us incredibly strong even when we are struggling the most.... our period🩸 We shouldn’t have to feel like we need to whisper about needing a sanitary pad or hide a tampon up our sleeve. Periods aren’t anything out of the ordinary, and neither is talking about them. That said, I’ve had great experience with using period cups and I hope that every woman would be willing to give it a try. Not only does it lessen the waste of the sanitary products we use, it’s also more convenient as you save up on money and the hassle of changing your pad or tampon every few hours. If the idea of putting a cup up your yoni sounds crazy, start watching videos on YouTube and do your research. Or you could buy it and keep it next to your sanitary products so at least you own it when you finally get the courage to try it. Honestly, it took me months before I finally got used to using it regularly. I’m so proud of my girl friends who have tried it after I told them about how much it has changed my life and they all love it too. #welcometothesisterhood The cup I use is from @luuna.naturals 🍓 Their website has all the information you need from finding the right cup size to how-to videos. Plus, I love their community of supportive women who take care of their bodies and care for Mother Earth 🌍 Do you use a period cup? Share your experience and keep spreading the love! #honestperiods #nomoresecrets #luunawomen #periodpower #periodpositive #selfcare #plasticfreeperiods #mooncycle #menstrualhealth (at Singapore) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMKNhBbpVkO/?igshid=fcpilhjc0ob2

Did you know that we have a mini shop at @hopkinson21 as well? Super handy for the train station and a fab centre selling preloved goods - the haberdashery shop is Sam's fave!!! . . #Repost @hopkinson21 (@get_repost) ・・・ Have you realised, nearly everything you buy now comes in plastic? Shampoo, vegetables, meal deals, razors, beauty products and even your clothes made from synthetic materials have plastic in! It's time to say no! And stop letting oil/plastic producing companies benefit from the things you just throw away. The #zerowaste movement is growing, encouraging the reduce and reuse rather than just recycle! ♻️ On first floor, we have two cabinets full of plastic free goodies to get you started on your journey, and remember small steps all add up and one person can have a profound impact! #noplanetb All items from @dashvegan, a brilliant set up down in Cobden Chambers, where you can find more plastic free and vegan goodies! Today I'm talking #plasticfreeperiods 🙌🙌 You read that right - plastic free periods!  Hands up if you knew the majority of period products on the market are laden with toxic chemicals and planet polluting plastics. 🤔🙋‍♀️  But you're in luck, because there is a rising number of eco friendly and sustainable period options out there for you to choose from! In my recent blog post (link in bio) I covered four of these amazing eco alternatives: 👌 Organic disposables 👌 Reusable pads + tampons 👌 The cup 👌 Period Pants There is also stuff like menstrual disks and period active-wear, but I wanted to focus on the day to day alternatives that are as free from plastic as possible.  Switching these monthlies over to eco friendly options is great not just for the planet, but for your health (and usually your wallet too!), and I really do hope we see a new mindset begin to sweep the nation.  With all the attention on single use plastics at the moment, this is the time for  change. My questions to you eco-beauties are: 💢 Have you tried any eco friendly period products yet?  If so, which ones and what did you think? 💢 If you haven't (no shame in that -- I mean, you're here reading this so that's a huge start!!), what has stopped you from trying? 💢 and what do you think will help get more people trying more sustainable menstrual products?? #plasticfreeliving #plasticwaste #periodpositive #reusablepads #sustainableliving #ecoblogger #periodproblems #reusable #greenlife #greenliving #ecofriendlyproducts #ethicallifestyle #ethicalfashion #sustainableshopping #timeofthemonth #periodpanties #ethicalblogger #greenlifestyle #organicfashion #organiclife #organiclifestyle #nontoxichome #nontoxicliving #moneysaving #wellbeingwednesday #wellnesswednesday #healthyliving #menstrualcup #menstruation (at Norwich, Norfolk) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvzsnihl6po/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1a3wya65ganqf

Regrann from @lunettecup - Meet Scarlett and her WAR ON WASTE🚯 We invite you to meet Scarlett and to follow her daily struggle carrying around a wheelbarrow full of disposable hygiene waste throughout the city of Sydney. Scarlett wants everyone to know that disposable waste is a struggle and is environmentally unsustainable. Thankfully Scarlett has now discovered reusable hygiene products like Modibodi and Lunette & she is much happier.💙 Interestingly, some enviro TV programs believe this environmental issue is too squeamish a topic and too much of “female problem” for their male host to talk about, so just for them we rolled it in glitter to make it more appealing! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We want you to share our #waronwaste video and invite your friends to go on the journey with us to spread the word that waste is a problem, and it's our individual responsibility to help make that change. #ditchthedisposables #waronwasteau #lunettecup #lunettemenstrualcup #modibodiaustralia #modibodiundies #menstrualcup #periods #periodtalk #eco #sustainability #plasticfreeperiod https://www.instagram.com/p/BoINO0vh-qC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1tjo7tp39q8cx

Speaking of eco-friendly disposables... it’s been a good week for #gifted period freebies! 🩸 Many thanks to @essencepr for sending me @dameforgood’s innovative reusable applicator and organic tampons 💚 . We throw away sooo much plastic from our period products every month and, as I mentioned, I’m trying to be greener about my periods by using period pants with tampons as a backup. But I also struggle with the flimsy cardboard applicators that come with some of the eco tampons on the market 🤦‍♀️ . Dame’s reusable applicator is the first of its kind and I’m hoping it’ll prove to be a game-changer! 🤞 . #periods #ecoperiod #ecoperiods #periodpositive #enviromenstrual #greenperiod #plasticfree #plasticfreeperiods #menstrualcycle #menstruation #menstruationmatters #periodtalk #talkingperiods #reusableperiodproducts #periodpants #menstrualhealth #womenshealth #menstrualmovement #periodpower #periodpowerful #ecofriendlyperiod https://ift.tt/2vcEBgD

‘Most widespread disposable menstrual products contain plastics that can’t be recycled or reused
Talking about periods openly can be difficult, and discussing menstrual waste can be even harder. While the fight against single-use plastics like straws and shopping bags has become a mainstream issue, activists and environmental groups say disposable menstrual products are part of the problem too.
How many women actually know their tampons and pads may have plastic in them? Unlike food products, there is no legal compulsion to list ingredients on their packaging, although most of this information is available online.
Pads, the product favoured around the world, can in some cases be made up of about 90% plastic - containing as much as four supermarket bags. Tampons are predominantly cotton and rayon but have components made up of polyester materials. Many come individually wrapped with plastic applicators.
The average woman is estimated to use, and throw away, in excess of 10,000 of these in her menstrual lifetime.
During its annual clean-up weekend in 2017, the Marine Conservation Society found a large increase in sewage-related debris on British beaches - including hundreds of menstrual pads, tampons and applicators. The problem inspired City to Sea, a group fighting ocean pollution, to start a #PlasticFreePeriod campaign.
Despite warnings on packaging that products like wipes and tampons aren’t flushable, women continue to dispose of them this way, forcing water companies to spend huge amounts of money clearing blockages.
In countries without stringent disposal systems in place, these products can be found in the streets or on rubbish dumps being hand-sorted, leaving poor workers at huge health risk.
But through woman-to-woman advocacy and word of mouth, reusable products like cups, sponges and absorbent pants are growing in popularity around the world. Once a fringe choice, these environmentally friendlier options are being popularised by the internet.
Historically, a lot of women have used washable cloths to absorb blood.
Refined versions of this, in the form of reusable pads, have actually taken off as a plastic-free solution and are now being sold by retailers online.’

You're a star! And you're a goddess. #menstrualcycleawareness helps you reconnect with that feminine side that this patriarchal society tells us is weak and to be quashed. Cloth pads were the first step for me on my journey and helped me connect to my cycle and therefore the feminine side on myself. #hereford #herefordshire #localmakers #ditchthedisposables #reusablepads #clothsanitarypads #reusablemenstrualpads #rumps #csps #stars #blackandwhite #pussypads #homemadewithlove #makeclothmainstream #mamacloth #vegan #plasticfreeperiods #earthlove #noplanetb https://www.instagram.com/p/BuJXquyn9xb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=zke0uwuxnr97

You may have noticed I've been pretty silent this week. Nothing too dramatic going on, but I definitely felt the need to take a break from the online life. Sometimes social media can feel overwhelming, and that's not how I want this to go -- I love chatting with you lovelies, hearing what you're up to/what you're using, answering your questions, and sharing my thoughts on things with you! So I've decided that when I get super busy or life makes things start feeling like a chore, I'll take a step back so I can continue to 100% enjoy this space when I return 💚 Time for a life update! PhD is coming along slowly but surely. I'm aiming to finish my current chapter by the end of the month, so the next week is going to be intense! Our cat friend has been visiting again which is fab - love having a furball around! Trying to sort out details for our annual trip to visit my family, and hating how expensive airfare has gotten. Tickets are £250+ more than in past years! But very much looking forward to summer and seeing everyone 😊 Working on a ton of blog content, including a piece of #plasticfreeperiods which has been a long time coming. Also looking forward to reviewing February's @lovelulabeauty + @nat_beauty_box, the @vertuebox + @naturisimo edits, plus some goodies from @alteyaorganics, @mono_naturoils, @inner_senses_organics and more. Just wish I had more time to spend on The ecoLogical as I truly love it! Trying to get out a bit more recently as I've been a tad reclusive in the last few months, partially due to work, partially weather, and mostly just me being super introverted. But had a fab time meeting up with a friend for coffee earlier this week, and had a lovely stroll around Norwich today with Tim - and even tried a vegan restaurant we've been meaning to go to for ages! 👌👌 There are some stressful situations going on behind the scenes as well, but I wanted to keep things positive and look at the bright side today as this sunshine deserves happier thoughts I think ☀️ Now it is your turn! I would love to hear what is going on with all you lovelies 💕 Share one happy or exciting thing that's going on your life! 👇👇😘 https://www.instagram.com/p/BuPQi32FPsy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=eqi1dfu02vn9
