Alelgor - A conversation about magic. Shireen has a negative/fearful view of it and stands to develop some herself. It might be interesting to see Alelgor become something of a mentor figure.

To add to your suggestion Tighnari sort of becomes an apprentice to Ford?

Or maybe a completely different AU where they both find themselves stuck in a place, bit like the Upside Down and have to find a way to escape back to their own dimensions

The Husbands of River Song is not and has never been about the Eleventh Doctor being a deadbeat, distant husband (gross mischaracterization by the way) and the Twelfth Doctor being the "better, more mature, affectionate" husband.

It was about River Song. It was about River and how the events in Manhattan took such a toll on her. It was about letting us see River dealing with grief the way The Snowmen showed us how the Doctor coped after losing believing he had used up all his time with River.

Looking at THORS now with The Ruby's Curse in mind, I get the instinct (for lack of a word that I cannot remember) that the Manhattan incident Blue Roach read from River's diary was not the Manhattan episode that we saw in series 7.

On that note, I'd also like to bring up the fact that the Doctor grounds River and River grounds the Doctor. As Tree talked about in one of her tags, River's empathy is more cognitive than emotional and after musing on it for a bit – considering that the Doctor can no longer go to Manhattan (which may have changed in later series but I wouldn't know at the moment because I have yet to overcome series 7b) and that River does spend time with her parents in Manhattan post-TATM, would the latest Manhattan incident in River's diary be the funeral for Amy? Amy's death? Perhaps even Anthony's? I mean, we already know Rory died five years earlier than Amy. So, knowing how deep River's love for her mother is, it's not too farfetched to say that River spent that time with them. River was by their bedsides as they drew their last breath.

Then Rory's gone, Amy's gone, Anthony's gone. Where does that leave River? Where is the Doctor? (sulking on a cloud on top of Victorian London? trying to figure out the mystery of his newest companion? all while constantly mentioning a certain Professor Song who actually turns out to be his dearly sort of departed absolutely beloved wife?)

Without her parents (and her husband) to ground her, she goes on this maddened, grieving space Robin Hood spree. She seeks fun to fill in the void and takes up marriage as a hobby/side quest. Does she look for the Doctor? Perhaps. Yes, actually. Considering she crashed her latest sort-of-husband's ship onto a planet where she purported the TARDIS to be.

But... she's stealing the TARDIS. She could have just called the Doctor, yeah? So, she doesn't want the Doctor to know then. Well... yeah, considering she has two sort-of-husbands in hand.

So, River would just have gone on from one space Robin Hood spree to the next had the TARDIS not sort-of-stranded herself on Mendorax Dellora to make sure her Water stopped being stubborn and reconcile(?) with her Thief?

Also taking note of how River has read stories about them and knows that Darillium is purported to be their last night together (I could also bring up the fact that this is why I find it easy to digest the "River meeting regenerations of the Doctor younger than the Tenth Doctor makes sense and doesn't break cannon nor ruin SITL/FOTD" but that would take a whole other post). Does this River believe her time with the Eleventh Doctor has ended? The same way series 7b Eleven believed his time with older versions of River has ended? Is this all part of some grand fuckup in communication all thanks to their tangled timelines?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But has River not just been running from her family's death? Has River been running from her supposed last night with the Doctor?

"But River doesn't run." Oh yes. Yes, she does. She knows when to stand her ground. She knows when to charge. And she knows when to run.

"That's out of character for her." No, it's not. She's not invincible. She's this well trained assassin, yes. But invincible? No.

Invincible from the tendency to be blinded by their emotions? Obviously not.

River lies. And River runs.

She is not afraid of her death. She is afraid of the day when her husband, her Doctor, looks into her eyes and looks right through her. And it shouldn't kill her but it does. It did.

So she ran and ran until her bigger-on-the-inside Mum gently reached out and put her back together with the only person left who could ground her. Who she didn't recognize at first but still fell in love with (and would have loved even if he hadn't been revealed to be her actual, long missing husband). Who finally found out their last night wasn't just any night – it was a twenty-four year long last night. Who finally gave her a breather from all the running she'd been doing.

And oh what a night that was (it was the talk of the universe).

I don't listen to people that haven't played a new Kingdom Hearts game since 2006. Yes yes kh2 we all love it yes kh2fm is amazing yeah yeah we've all see kh2. Play more kh games, that is literally game number 3 in a series that's like 15 games ongoing. "It's confusing" it's just long as fuck so its a lot of information to take in and that's okay. People literally take so much time and care to explain the series and lore to people who are lost. Like just say you enjoy kh2's gameplay and move on, if you really cared about the series AS A SERIES you'd be paying attention to it as a whole. She was not only a damn princess but also a diplomat. She owed Halt her life and she knew that Duncan was aware of it. By not taking it seriously as a betrayal, she had helped them all gain time to think about what now, despite the public around them.

She did what she could in this situation to help Halt.

Halt did something very similar for her in the seventh book, when he started mocking in public to kill them already and instead of Cassandra, the focus was on him...

So many possible approaches to this, many of them hilarious, some of them fucking tragic.

ONE: The first time Henry lays eyes on Alex in Rio, he's the most incredible thing Henry has ever seen, and it terrifies him. He bottles it up, keeps the Prince Henry of Wales mask on because that's all he knows how to do, and when he shakes Alex's hand, he pretends the brief, formal touch doesn't light him up from the inside out. He turns to Shaan and mutters "Can you get rid of him?" and despite being so caught up in his need to get away that he doesn't see the way Alex's eyes flash—in hurt, in disappointment—before they narrow.

TWO: The first (second) time Henry lays eyes on Alex in Rio, he's the most incredible thing Henry has ever seen, and it terrifies him. When Alex approaches, he does so with a wide smile, asks Henry about his new dog and how he's finding Oxford, and the thought of Alex wanting to know him is overwhelming. He turns to Shaan and mutters "Can you get rid of him?"—too loudly, because Alex blanches. "Guess it's just personal, then," he says before he turns on his heel, and Henry has no idea what he means.

THREE: The first (third) time Henry lays eyes on Alex in Rio, he's the most incredible thing Henry has ever seen, and it terrifies him. Alex doesn't approach him—he is, perhaps, the only dignitary in attendance who doesn't—but he glares across the crowd as though Henry has personally wronged him. There's a phrase echoing in the back of his mind: you don't get a second chance at a first impression. Henry doesn't know why. He hasn't had a first chance at a first impression. (He also doesn't know why it sounds so much like his bloody dad.)

FOUR: The first (eighth) time Henry lays eyes on Alex in Rio, he's the most incredible thing Henry has ever seen, and it terrifies him. When he approaches, he does so with both the women he's attending with in tow—Alex's sister June, Shaan tells him, and Nora Holleran; if the election goes their way in November, these three will be two children of a President and a grandchild of a Vice-President—and they take turns shaking his hand, Alex in between the two woman. It's not as overwhelming as it might have been to meet Alex alone, with June engaging him in polite conversation about the diving results, but when his eyes find their way to Alex's, Alex is looking at him with an expression of deep contemplation.

FIVE: The first (seventeenth) time Henry lays eyes on Alex in Rio, he's the most incredible thing Henry has ever seen, and it terrifies him. He puts Alex out of his mind, focusing on the task at hand—schmoozing without showing any personality whatsoever—so it's a shock when a warm voice suddenly appears practically in his ear, asking if he wants to get a drink. He should say no... but he doesn't. He wakes up the next morning with Alex's number programmed into his phone and, for the first time in over a year, a smile on his face.

Starter call! Yep, you saw correctly. I've been making progress in my drafts, and I realized since it was mentioned the other day that I function a little better under pressure, so, yes.

These will be a little shorter (and I'm going to be a little strict with myself on that so that I actually get them written), so expect roughly a paragraph and if it stems from an idea that we've spoken about in plotting or whatnot, then it might be a little longer. But generally, they will be shorter starters that knowing me, will become lengthier threads as the replies progress! i went to a giant second-hand book sale yesterday with my bestie, and like, i need you to picture me trailing after her like a duckling in this massive, packed convention centre. she’s browsing the FICTION GENERAL section and i’m cradling a pile of books i can rest my chin on (i was too stubborn for a trolley) excitedly recounting the entirety of the plot to my regency fic to her as she goes, “ooh,” or “ah!” in all the right places, only to interject myself when i see a familiar title and then proceed to immediately recount the plot of that to her instead.
