I inflicted this in the discord so I will inflict it on Tumblr as well: SFTH Character Ghost Hunting Show AU
(Brought to you by a Phasmophobia stream I recently watched)
The working cast is
Titch (TUA) - the skeptic/host
Derek (TUA) - camera man
Samantha (Egbert’s Wife, TLW) - resident medium
Jimmy (TSP) - scaredy cat/intern
Older!Julian (PoH) - supernatural informationist/other intern
Titch gets away from the family business to run a local history/nature show but ends up turning into a ghost hunting show. He meets Derek as a camera man first. Julian was his first hire followed by Samantha and, recently, Jimmy who is doing a summer internship.
Julian’s play takes place and so does Jimmy’s. After the events of TSP, Jimmy was advised to take a leave of absence. He was originally hired to be a body guard/security specialist but that plan went off the rails. Titch still hired him though since the kid seemed spooked in his own skin.
Samantha’s play doesn’t take place but she still has her family’s weird family values and dynamics. Egbert’s is in the military and Samantha didn’t want the life of a military wife. She left everything and took the first supernatural-esque job because 1) it’s easy money and 2) she’s the most goddamn authentic “medium” then any other schnub they might hire.
Extra shit:
If I ever write this, it would open up in a tour of various haunts in (unspecified country so I can use both European and American sites since space is fake). They’re on episode 10 of this show and every other one was a dud.
Titch ensures the show is 100% honest and talks about things like “that previous house had a gas leak, people ate shrooms near here, this building’s wiring is way out of code.” He does play the skeptic after all.
Jimmy overreacts to everything but he’s also the fan favorite. It also adds a nice comedy to everything.
Samantha is pretty done with everyone. She makes sure Jimmy and Julian don’t get into trouble like the big sister she is.
Julian is a baby duck by Titch’s side and does want to pursue a career in supernatural television (mostly because I love the “TV Show” bit with Father Andrews haha).
Derek is the camera man/video editor. He’s 100% responsible why most of the scenes focus on Titch even if he’s not the main focus of the shot. That’s why he makes sure he’s the editor so nobody has to see all of that.
Now their show is nearly the end of its current run and no actual supernatural stuff. (Though Samantha was very insistent there were some in Episode 3.) Episode 10’s stop?
The Langbrook Manor, home to the mysterious deaths of the Langbrook family and the equally mysterious disappearance of the previous Lady, Annabelle.
Their “no supernatural” streak ends there.
This has been on my thoughts all night.

A Lone Melody (Pt. 5)
Soft Platonic Yandere Arlong & OC(Melody)
Main|First|Previous
Warnings: None. Excessive cuteness of a child. World and lore building?
Word Count: 1,846
Tumblr media
They docked the ship at Fishman Island, frankly the only place Arlong felt comfortable doing this at. He wanted to give Melody the kind of support he never got as a child for his own first time being totally submersed and learning how to breathe. He was helped by a mermaid who realized he was almost five and had never properly learned yet. She was kind and gentle and one of the first people he ensured had a good nest egg when he started making money—but she wasn’t family.
Maybe that made it more noble and sweet, a true testament to how they all needed to look out for each other, but it was something his own father should have done in leu of his mother. At bare minimum, his responsibility. But clearly that useless bastard only knew how to sire kids, not raise them. And now Shyarly could meet her niece as well.
Jinbe walked alongside him as they approached the mermaid café that his half sister worked at, Melody sitting up in his arms and looking around in wonder. It was the first island he’d ever allowed her to get off at—refusing to trust any island predominantly occupied by humans. Light blue dress with seafoam green frills and small orange fish swimming along the hem a recent purchase that suited his pup. He wanted Shyarly to meet her niece in something that wasn’t a onesie, as convenient as those were while they were at sea.
If Jinbe had his way, she’d be wearing a kimono. But the idea of trying to ensure his pup didn’t loosen the tie by accident while exploring simply didn’t appeal to him. Maybe when she wasn’t so enchanted by the idea of running around on her own and getting into everything. Last week she’d snuck into the storeroom and tried to eat a potato so old it was successfully growing new potatoes spuds along with mold. How and why was elaborated on in simple sentences.
“Daaah! Tha’ poh-tat-oh smell good!” Melody had cheerfully declared while still trying to stuff it into her mouth. Jinbe had, in an effort to encourage her speech, corrected her words rather than her actions. Leaving Arlong to gently pry the potato away, finding the smell personally offensive.
It had probably gotten lost between the barrels and was now inedible. Likely only good for food poisoning.
“It’s ‘the potato smells good’, baby.” Jinbe cooed with a smile before wrinkling his nose at the potato. “What are you even smelling, Melody? It’s clearly gone bad.” Melody huffed, still reaching for the potato with a pout. Not quite used to being told ‘no’ for any reason… Arlong may be spoiling his daughter a bit when he could. But he’d never admit it.
The door opened with a soft chime, the waitresses turning their heads briefly to see who was coming in. At the back, serving a table of rowdy humans, was Shyarly with a bubble to help her move around. Her dark hair was short still, dark purple dress flowing to her hips just under a bubble ring. She waved at him briefly before turning her attention back to the table. Another mermaid, with a tail that was long and slender like an eel, beamed. Clearly recognizing one of them.
“Jinbe! It’s been a while! Let me get you two—three a table! Does the little cutie need a highchair?” She asked politely while leaning over to wave at Melody who, awestruck, waved back. Body swaying with a clear desire to both stay in his arms while also personally investigating the mermaid.
Jinbe answered while Arlong was distracted with trying to keep Melody firmly seated.
“Yes please, Kagiri.” Jinbe smiled. “It’s good to see you’re doing well.”
“Dah! She’s so pretty! And her tail is like a noodle!” Melody ‘whispered’ to him, the young mermaid very entertained by the comment as Melody flapped her arm to demonstrate the noodle likeness. Arlong huffed a laugh.
“Melody, it’s a bit rude to comment on someone’s tail like that.” Arlong chastised her lightly. Melody looked perplexed and glanced at the mermaid as though checking.
“Oh… I’m sorry. It’s just so pretty—I promise I wasn’t gonna to bite it.” Melody reassured her.
“T-That’s alright, sweetie. I wasn’t worried about that—” the mermaid struggled to not laugh. “How old are you?” Melody puffed up with pride, baring her now mostly full set of sharp teeth.
“I’m two!” Melody held up her hand and, after a brief correction from Jinbe, showed off two fingers with pride.
“Wow! You’re a big girl, practically all grown up!” Kagiri cooed playfully. “And you know what big girls get? Their own chair.” She pulled out a highchair designed to accommodate both mermaid and fishmen children with a small buckle to secure them. Melody had never been in a chair before on her own, Arlong simply holding her for meals whenever Jinbe wouldn’t.
Another waitress, a young mermaid with a flowing blue tail, took the chair and set it up at a booth, allowing Arlong and Jinbe to be seated within easy reach of Melody’s chair. Arlong was a little nervous about how she’d react, but apparently the prospect of being ‘a big girl’ with her own chair was exciting. A few pieces of paper and crayons laid on the surface of the chair’s table to entertain her. A task she eagerly indulged in with a serious pout on her face. Any attempt to see what she was drawing was met with an angry huff and her arms slapping over the paper.
“Alright! I’ll stop trying to look! Sorry, pup.” Arlong acquiesced with a smile, leaning over to kiss her cheek apologetically. She huffed but kissed his cheek back, arms still trying to block out what was clearly the rough figure of Kagiri with a long, noodle tail.
“Arlong! I didn’t expect to see you here, let alone with company. You’re always so grumpy.” Shyarly came over with a teasing grin. “And who are you?” She leaned over to be at eyelevel with Melody.
Melody stopped drawing, eyes wide through her black-tipped bangs as she beamed. Shyarly followed her gaze and smiled, curling up her tail to show Melody.
“Ahck!” Melody cried out, gently grabbing the crescent shaped fin to marvel at it. “Dah! It’s like tha moon!” Melody looked at Arlong for confirmation. Shyarly chuckled, poking Melody’s cheek while looking at him expectantly.
“This is Melody. We found her at sea and took her in.” Arlong explained fondly. “Careful, she’s taken to biting things she likes.”
“Biting? Who, this cute little pup?” Shyarly cooed, gently ruffling Melody’s hair as she rubbed her face on the tail. Clearly trying to refrain from biting—an impulse Arlong had reluctantly started to curb once he realized she was still fully capable of puncturing his skin despite her mixed heritage. She opened her mouth wide and froze, pulling back to bite her hand instead with a frustrated grunt. “Haven’t you gotten this poor pup a teething ring, Arlong? She’s part shark, isn’t she? I had the same problem as a pup. She’ll grow out of it.”
Arlong flushed, shrugging his shoulders a bit helplessly. He had, in fact, gotten her many teething rings. Most were demolished quickly, though the Adam wood ones lasted the longest. Metal was just not good for her teeth.
“We’re not sure what kind of mix she has, honestly.” Jinbe admitted with a shrug. “But we do know she’s half human.” At that Shyarly looked surprised, glancing at Arlong like she expected him to deny it.
He couldn’t really blame her? His attitude about humans was hardly a secret.
Arlong leaned over and gently took Melody’s hand from her mouth. Wiping it with a napkin to see if she’d hurt herself. Melody was rather good about not breaking skin once they started training her to be more aware of her bite strength. Pleased to see now damage, just a slightly damp fist, Arlong kissed her cheek again.
“She’s my daughter. Nothing else matters.” Arlong explained quietly with a huff. “Maybe not by blood, but she’s no less mine.”
Shyarly still looked surprised, but there was an undeniable look of pride in her eyes.
“Well then, I guess that’s that!” Shyarly declared with a smile before turning to Melody who was still gently stroking the curve of her fin. “Hey, sweetie. Do you know who I am?” Melody paused, looking up at her.
“…No? B-But you have a pretty tail! I can say that, right dah?” Melody asked. Arlong chuckled and nodded.
Shyarly laughed, tapping Melody’s nose to regain her attention.
“I’m your auntie! Arlong’s my older brother—you can just call me Auntie Shar.” Melody gasped.
“I have a pretty auntie, Auntie Shar!” Melody declared, much to Shyarly’s delight.
“And I have a cute little niece! You have such precious eyes!” Shyarly cooed.
“I’m taking her for her first swim later this evening. Would you like to join us?” Arlong asked. Shyarly’s reaction was instant.
“Oh! Her first swim! Oh, little pup, you’re going to go swimming today? I’d love to come!” Shyarly agreed. “The little grotto by the bay, right? Where we used to swim when I was almost as small as she is?” Arlong nodded with a fond smile.
Arlong hadn’t been there for Shyarly’s first swim, but he often took her to a small, secluded area to make sure her tail didn’t grow weak from lack of use. ‘Walking’ with a bubble ring was convenient on land and less abrasive for mermaid tails, but the movements were different from swimming. Trying to walk with their tails was difficult and the end result ridiculous for all parties. Mermaids that never swam often had problems with their tails later in life, usually weakness or becoming bent in painful shapes. The pressure from their weight and the streets wearing down on their scales, muscles, and bones.
Of course she’d remember where it was without him saying it.
First swims were a more private, family-oriented affair. Sometimes frightening and undeniably a vulnerable moment for guppies and pups. And, traditionally, done in the shallow reefs. It just wasn’t the same doing it in a tub or pool, which was considered bad luck. Often being taken as a sign that the family was preparing their children to live far away from the sea—something that usually only occurs if they’re sold into slavery.
So yeah.
Arlong was taking his daughter on her first swim to the sea. Where she’ll learn what freedom, true freedom, feels like. Not the wind on an open deck or a port town.
Just the endless blue sea that she can explore at her leisure—when she grows up of course.
They ordered their food and left Shyarly to tend to her other customers. Arlong keeping an eye out for her while helping Melody eat.
Predictably, both Kagiri and Shyarly each received a picture of themselves lovingly rendered in messy crayon with an abundance of lopsided hearts. They were delivered with hopeful eyes and a hug that couldn’t be denied, even if they wanted to—which they naturally did not.

For Talk Shop Tuesday, something I've been curious about! Since Collateral and Purpose of Heritage are both multichapters that cover the same time period, what would you say makes each of them different? Like, I know how they might hit on different themes (based on the summary of PoH and in having read Collateral), but as a writer, what was your process in planning PoH without feeling like you might be repeating yourself or trying to come up with different headcanons for what happened?
Oh my word, my answer is so long, I'm so sorry! (and thank you for asking!)
So, it's not been overly difficult on the whole primarily because Collateral has such a short timeline when compared to PoH. Ignoring any flashback scenes, the bulk of the story takes place over a week or two, I think? whereas Purpose of Heritage starts within hours of the medal ceremony on Yavin and ends three years later on Hoth, so there's a lot more ground to cover and relatively few areas of overlap.
But, they're also very different stories. The focus of Purpose of Heritage is Leia, not necessarily Leia and Han (though...you know, with him being a prominent figure in her life, he is obviously a huge part of the story). PoH is all Leia's POV rather than having alternating POVs like in Collateral, and it's a lot more...in her head (I'm probably a little too wordy at times tbh). I've characterized Leia somewhat differently as well. She is very specifically not suicidal at any point (she does fail her initial enlistment psych eval, but that is 1000% because she tells Rieekan she's good to do it right away to try to prove something to herself). She starts out feeling very out-of-place because of the circumstances surrounding her enlistment into the militia portion of the Alliance -- which is similar to how she still feels three years later in Collateral -- but in PoH, she eventually bonds with people other than just Han, Luke, and Chewie, and starts to try to let some of the others in emotionally, at least for a bit.
Her relationship with Han is characterized differently compared to Collateral. It's been awhile since I've revisited Collateral, but I recall them being friends, but not as close as they eventually get in PoH. And, I think in Collateral, I imply that their relationship takes the standard bickering-to-friends-to-lovers trajectory.
In PoH, their relationship is more...complicated? The first chapter involves Han finding out that Leia had been tortured in detail that essentially no one else in the Alliance aside from maybe High Command knows about, and because of his history with the Empire, she's able to sort of communicate this by talking around what happened rather than talking about it (FYI: I do not get graphic with this stuff), and that's sort of the framework around which their relationship is initially based -- this ability to use experiences the other has had that are just similar enough to what they've experienced that they can reference trauma without actually dealing with it. It works for them until it doesn't, at which point, Leia has to decide how open she wants to be with him. She actually at one point wants Han to leave like he threatens to do every five seconds because she's trying to will herself into having a "fresh start", and she feels like him just knowing about her experience on the Death Star is keeping her from being able to fully embrace an all-new life.
And on the note of Han threatening to leave, I purposefully did away with that for character development reasons after about six months in the story. Han, for reasons that become clear much later, stops saying he's going to leave, and while he doesn't promise to stay until way, way late in the story, it still removes some tension between them. They still argue -- and even argue about really dumb stuff sometimes -- but the backbiting and bickering wanes over time as their relationship deepens.
I do think -- for better or for worse-- PoH Han is a bit softer (and I think more nuanced?) than Han in Collateral. I hope not to the point of butchering his character -- and the areas where he's softer are there for a reason (I really try to think about motivations of everyone in a scene all the dang time). But that certainly alters the way he and Leia interact to a degree, which differentiates PoH from Collateral, I think.
In the areas where there are opportunities for a lot over overlap between stories -- especially plot points -- I usually just choose something for PoH that wasn't done in Collateral. Leia is in a different sort of mindset post-Yavin -- still a hot mess, but in a way that's different from Collateral. Ord Mantell plays out entirely differently (though, fun fact: the bounty hunter they run into in PoH was supposed to be a character in Collateral at one point, and then I rewrote a chapter and they got cut. But their presence as well as some other little details were pulled from an old draft of Collateral). Leia and Han are together longer in PoH (closer to a month rather than a week or two), and Han's reasons for wanting to leave...well, they aren't entirely different, but there's more to it than just a bounty hunter finding them. The reason things get so hostile between them right before The Empire Strikes Back is similar, but I've also been hinting at Han's insecurities literally since he and Leia started a romantic relationship in PoH, which are a big part of why things turn as nasty as they do.
I think all-in-all, if I felt like something was important for characterization, then I probably kept things pretty similar, but nearly anywhere where a plot point count be different, I made it different.
Except the fact that the Ord Mantell trip was for cold-resistant speeder parts. That's the same in both (I guess technically in Collateral they go to Nar Shadaa for those, but it's the same trip). (And in PoH, they never even get the parts, which, in my mind, is why the speeders won't work consistently at the beginning of ESB.)
(Also, Leia initiates their first kiss in both. But I would argue that's more a characterization choice rather than a plot similarity.)
I...really hope that answers the question, because, holy cow, this is such a long answer :D. (But also, I could talk about this forever, so thank you again for asking!)

MATCHUP FOR kavehtham ♡
I want you to meet . . .
Tumblr media
RIDDLE ROSEHEARTS ! ♡
Perhaps it isn't the best match of all time.. And I'm supposed to be the BEST matchmaker of all.. But I see this working out! You are definitely a breath of fresh air to him, he certainly is pleased by your attitude. He hasn't met much people like you, so you're special to him! He feels drawn to your carefree, and laid back personality. He loves that you're so accepting, forgiving, and patient.. He might even form a calmer mind from you, maybe.. He'd stop to give Ace another chance for breaking the 23th rule this day! As for when you're feeling unmotivated, he always helps you out! No matter the occasion, he always finds the time to help you. Ace plotting to start a fight again? He's busy helping you, someone else just stop him. He's interested in your studies. He's glad that you've found something you're passionate about, and he takes a genuine interest in them. It's not like he's gonna study everything about it since he has other studies, but he would like to. I think he would especially want to see you work! Your little dates are pretty much just tea parties and stargazing. He isn't as knowledgeable in stargazing, and doesn't know most of the constellations.. But he's trying his hardest so give him that! At least the both of you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of heartslabyul, and hopefully not many stars get covered by the trees. You stated you liked true crime, but he isn't exactly comfortable with that. He likes being knowledgeable on the tragic events that happened, but he feels off about it. He would love to watch informational documentaries with you though, he's happy that you too like that! You also stated that you prefer relationships at a slow pace, lucky for you that Riddle makes the relationship start of slow. He isn't very affectionate but he does love you, but he has to take things slow first.
Tumblr media
MINORI HANASATO ! ♡
She thinks you're really interesting! Platonic or not, she loves you a lot!! To her, you're super cool, and she wants to be you a little! She's always excited to hang out with you since you both mostly stargaze, and she loves the beautiful scenery. Though whenever you do something other than stargazing, you both would probably go to a cute cafe! She loves cute little cafes, so she would always drag you there whenever she gets the chance. She's sort of fast with the relationship, but always slows down if you can't catch up with her! She thinks that being with you is like.. An eternal picnic, with all of her favorite foods, and all of whom she loves surrounding her and talking. She thinks that you're super pleasant to be around. even with your dry-ish humor, she loves you a bunch! And like Riddle, whenever you're feeling unmotivated, she (tries) to help you out! She's going for every chance she gets to help you out, even if she's not as knowledgeable about the subject. She also loves what you study! She's interested in it, and wants to know more. She wants to know what you think about that certain subject, and your opinions on it. She also wants to see you in work, like Riddle! She doesn't exactly get some stuff, but she's trying to know more about what you like! Oh! And you should know, she is TERRIFIED of true crime documentaries.. She doesn't exactly like them much, but she'd watch them for you and then end up clinging to you. She likes to be with you though, but please don't show her this horrifying stuff..
Tumblr media
disclaimer ⇶ the art is not mine! I just edited it, so credits to the actual artist;
note to kavehtham ;; hi🥺 *kinaldag* /jj BUT UHM U'RE SO COOL AND I LOVE YOUR INTERESTS BECAUSE WE HAVE THE SAME INTERESTS EXCEPT ENGINEERING STUFF HUHU THANK YOU FOR REQUESTING POH

Okay, I’m not done with this idea, so...
To start off, Riku and Kairi's relationship post-KH3 is a little, uh.... strained. After everything that happened in the Graveyard, Riku really doesn't trust Kairi to hold her own at all. They both want to go search for a way to revive Sora, but Riku's pretty dead-set on Kairi staying safe at home while he does all the actual work. He's already lost one friend, and he's not risking losing another. Kairi argues that if he's going to go chasing the Lich, he needs someone like her who can bring him back, but her argument kind of falls flat because her PoH abilities have been pretty shaky ever since Sora died because, well, her heart's broken. So Riku doesn't budge, and Kairi's left feeling useless and powerless to help her friends. Again. Also, Kairi can tell that Riku does sort of lowkey resent her for being a liability back in the Graveyard. Riku knows it's unfair of him, but he can't help how he feels. And while Riku really does want to keep her safe, Kairi feels that he's also shutting her out as a way to penalize her for costing them Sora's life. Angst ensues. Basically, instead of working together on a way to bring back Sora, Riku and Kairi end up pushing each other away and doubtlessly making things harder than they need to be. 🎉🎉🎉
Obviously, Kairi isn't going to just stay home. She thinks that if she can fully regain her powers, she may be able to restore Sora like she did in KH1, or get some kind of tether on him from the Realm of Light like she did in KH3. So she decides to sneak off on her own to first go find the other former Princesses of Heart to see if they can teach her more about her abilities, and then hopefully get her powers back and use them to revive Sora or at least help Riku. And admittedly, there’s a small, petty part of her that just wants to prove to Riku that she's not useless.
Naminé catches on to what Kairi's planning and wants to come with her to help however she can. Kairi kept her alive for the last couple of years, so Naminé is basically RIDE OR DIE for this girl at this point. If Kairi wants to go save Sora, then dammit, they’re gonna go save Sora. That said, she probably feels guilty enough to leave Riku a note or something just telling him that she and Kairi left together and everything's fine and to please not freak out. Riku reads it and is like "for fuck's sake," decides to go look for them (on top of everything else he's doing).
I'm... not really sure how Xion gets involved tbh. Maybe she initially wants to help Riku find Kairi and bring her home, but then switches sides once she realizes that Kairi's just trying to prove herself? Anyway, Xion is a total badass and (in this story, at least) has some of her Days boss battle abilities still in her arsenal, so after she joins the other girls, they're able to venture into more worlds that they'd had to avoid before because the combat level was too high they were too dangerous. During their journey, Xion gives Kairi lots of pointers that do her way more good as a keyblade wielder than whatever Merlin had her and Axel doing in that time chamber.
There's initially some tension between Kairi and Xion because Xion is supposed to be "Kairi as Sora remembers her," and in this story, Xion's clearly much stronger and (now that she's free of the Organization) cheerier than the real Kairi. So Kairi feels like she's hanging around a better version of herself all the time, and it takes effort to not let her bitterness over it show. It also doesn't help that Kairi's spending most of her time with two people who are like embodiments of Sora's love for her (Naminé being the Nobody that was created from Sora housing Kairi's heart in his, Xion being made up of Sora's memories of Kairi). Theoretically, that knowledge should be comforting, but it really just ends up rubbing some extra salt in that "Sora's dead and it's all my fault" wound.
While they're off on their journey, Riku tries to call Kairi almost every day, but she never picks up because she knows he'll just try to talk her into going home. Eventually Axel calls her, and it's fine until she realizes he's trying to weasel her whereabouts out of her so he can pass the info along to Riku. After that, she keeps her phone off.
Kairi, Naminé, and Xion start to work really well together after a while both because of their skill sets (Xion being the powerhouse, Naminé the healer, Kairi the warrior-still-in-training), but also because they have a lot in common. Xion can empathize pretty strongly with Kairi feeling like she's just a liability. Naminé knows how it feels to be used by people more powerful than you to hurt someone you care about. The trio develops a pretty deep understanding of one another, and they help each other rationalize and work through their problems/insecurities (like Xion has a tendency to get irritated/overly defensive when her judgment's questioned because, well, she also isn't sure if she can trust her own mind sometimes thanks to the Org reprogramming her in the past. Naminé has some pretty deep-rooted abandonment issues that are part of the reason she clings to Kairi as much as she does. Kairi has survivor's guilt in spades.). Character development ensues.
Naminé does Not like combat or just hurting things in general, hence why she sticks to healing. She does still have her heart-shattering ability from CoM, but she never wants to use it again (especially considering whose replica vessel she’s inhabiting these days).
Meanwhile, Riku thinks the other masters will help him with figuring out how to either find the Lich or contact Sora somehow, but nope. Yen Sid and Mickey don't want him going after the Lich or "chasing hearts," potentially costing them another valuable wielder getting himself killed. Aqua's more inclined to let him do what he thinks is right, but she's also doubtful that Sora's heart is even salvageable at this point. She tells Riku what she knows from her own training just because she feels he has the right to that information as a master, but that's about it. Beyond that, Riku's basically on his own. Without any real leads, Riku decides to visit different worlds to learn more about their differing concepts of death/the afterlife (so like the Underworld in Olympus, the Locker in the Caribbean, etc.). A lot of worlds have legends of creatures similar to the Lich that ferry the dead and all that cool stuff, so he makes note of that while also scouting the place for Kairi. He might also run into Maleficent at some point and learn something from her (since idk, she commanded the Heartless for a while, so maybe she knows something about the Lich)?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The trio runs into Riku once early on, and it... doesn't go that well. Riku's still not keen on Kairi running off (plus he's probably kind of annoyed that Naminé and Xion sided with her over him despite them both being his friends for way longer, oop), and Kairi's still frustrated that Riku has 0 faith in her and won't let her help him. They basically have the same argument they did back home, only now there's been more time for resentment to build. On top of that, they're both grieving over Sora without really knowing that they are (because neither's willing to even consider the idea that he may not be savable), and both feel like the other's abandoned them when they need them the most. Anyway, their fight doesn't accomplish anything other than hurting each other further. They split up again after Riku tells Kairi to just answer her damn phone every once and a while. She doesn't.
So Kairi meets up with the former PoHs as she travels worlds. She's lucky that Riku's on bad terms with half of these ladies and is gonna steer clear of Wonderland, Agrabah, and Beast's Castle. Kairi gets advice and some training from each of the princesses on how to tune out her own self-doubts and focus her magic on what she wants to accomplish. Her biggest help is probably Belle just because that lady spent SO MUCH TIME in Hollow Bastion's library in KH1 probably reading everything about light/darkness. That, and I think Belle kind of uses a tethering ability in KH1 to bring the Beast to Hollow Bastion (or at least, the Beast says he got there just by ~believing~, so maybe it's a two-way connection or something), so she may have a better understanding of her (former) powers than the others. Anyway, Kairi slowly starts regaining her powers, and they only get better as her confidence/faith in herself improves. Eventually, she starts working Faith/Holy into her combat moves and "tethering" to the other girls just to see if she can. She's able to use the latter ability to sense out where exactly Naminé and Xion are whenever they're separated from one another. Connecting with people in the same world is easy enough, but doing it across worlds/realms is trickier, so she practices reaching out to Riku occasionally with mixed results. She gets to where she can figure out where he is, but she can't communicate with him, and she's not sure if that's due to her abilities being too weak or if it's because she and Riku have been shutting each other out (spoilers: It's mostly the latter.).
The trio has another run-in with Riku later on. He and Kairi have another argument, but it's more constructive this time around. Riku starts to call her out on leaving him to go on this journey (because unlike her, he's been going it alone this whole time, and it's really starting to get to him), but she points out that she only left him before he could leave her. Everything kind of starts to click after that. Riku eventually apologizes for trying to leave her behind, Kairi apologizes for shutting him out for so long. There's still some tension between them, but it starts to ebb once they finally start working together on a plan to bring Sora back.
Kairi finally turns her phone back on to find approximately 34978593487 missed calls from Riku. She also sees that he left her a few voicemails, and while Riku says she can just delete them, she keeps them to listen to later when he's not around.
....I'm not sure how this ends? Part of me likes the idea of Sora just... staying dead and everyone moving forward with their lives because that's all you can do, really. But another part of me really likes the idea of Riku and Kairi finding the Lich and figuring out a way to split the price for Sora between them. Maybe they have to give up a fraction of their hearts or cut time off their lifespans to give to Sora's. And they both agree to just not tell Sora about that once he's back.
I realize I'm leaving a TON of characters out of this story lmao. I don't know what everyone else would be up to. tbh Ven could probably save Riku and Kairi a lot of trouble just by introducing them to his magic cat that apparently knows all about the afterlife, but.......................... whatever.

ai(b): You’re disgusting!!
{3}
sai: That’s amazing. So you can even do stuff like that...
ai(a): Huh? Well, I guess?
ai(b): It’s nothing compared to what you can do though Kusuo. ~blush~
{4}
sai: No, even I don’t have the ability to predict whatever I want.
Ai: But getting the winning lotto numbers has a high chance of things turning out badly.
{5}
ai(a): A person’s luck moves like a wave.
ai(b): Whenever something really lucky happens, something really unlucky is sure to follow so that it always balances out to net 0.
ai: That’s why if you win the lottery, you might just end up dying on the very same day.
{6}
ai(a): One time, before I knew about this, I used my powers to win 3 free packets of Yotchan Squid in a row, and the very next day I got hit by a truck.
ai(b): My bones were totally shattered! Lol ♡
sai: That’s not net 0 at all.
Text: Yotchan Squid

Page 019
{1}
tori: Woah... what the heck? That means your powers are completely useless...
tori(a): You got your bones broken (lol) just from winning 3 packets of Yotchan Squid? Wow that’s terrible...
tori(b): Can I take back the groveling I did?
Ai: Huh!?
{2}
ai(a): Yeah but I can foresee anything about other people!!
ai(b): It’s way more amazing than your stupid power that only let’s you hallucinate!!
tori: Huh!? You don’t understand anything about what makes my power great!!
{3}
tori: It seems I have no choice but to make you understand...
tori: just who the weakest, most disgraceful member of the PK Psychic Trio is...!
sai: I don’t remember forming any trios.
Fx: menace menace
{4}
ai: You're the one who needs to understand..
Ai: We already have our super love love ESPer Combo, so you’re not necessary.

tori: Okay then! Let’s compete to see who’s more worthy of being Saiki-san’s sidekick!!
ai: Bring it on!! You’re going down!!

{3}
tori: Stupid! Saiki-san hates bugs enough to pee his pants!!
sai: I didn’t...
tori: All right! Whoever eliminates that bug gets to be the sidekick!!
ai: Huhh!? Hey, wait!!
fx: dash
{4}
tori: All right! Let’s go! Are any of you good with bugs!?
1: Not me.
2: I’ll take care of it.
{5}
tori: All right! I’ll leave it to you then!! I’m not actually good with bugs myself...

Random Deliria
I was tagged by @thank-god-its-fryeday . Heeeee! Thank you, Amy! :*
Are you named after anyone? My name is a combination of my paternal grandmother’s, paternal grandfather’s and maternal grandfather’s names. XD Sounds complicated, yeah? XD When was the last time you cried? Does tearing up after yawning count? Yes? Okay, 3 am this morning, while trying to finish my work. XD I cannot remember when I cried last. OH! A week ago when I “rescued” Prompto and when he revealed his past to the others!  Do you like your handwriting? I have my days when I look at my handwriting and think, “Oh, you’re looking pretty today!” :D  What’s your favorite lunch meat? Hm, turkey slices.  Do you have kids? Haha! I’ve got 5 four-legged kids. 3 cats (2 at home, 1 at the office) and 2 tortoises.  If you were a different person, would you be friends with you? Probably.
Do you use sarcasm? Yes.  Do you still have your tonsils? Yes.
Would you bungee jump? Yes and no. Yes because I like the adrenaline rush, no because I have this fear that the bungee cord would snap!
What’s your favorite cereal? LUCKY CHARMS! :D And Coco Pops.  Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? Nope. :3 Because I am lazy that way!  Do you think you are a strong person? No. I don’t think I am. I can break down easily. But people think of my optimism as being strong. I am not sure if I should be flattered.  What’s your favorite ice cream? Raspberry Ripple and Baileys.  What’s the first thing you notice about people? Normally… Their body language and the way they look and smile at me. I have a way to read a person’s smile. I can tell if they are truly sincere or comfortable. What’s your least favorite physical thing about yourself? MY BODY, IN GENERAL. But that does not mean I love myself less :p  What color pants and shoes are you wearing right now? Black lounge pants and no shoes. I am in my room. On my bed. It is 5.23 pm and I am trying not to fall asleep.  What are you listening to right now? The sound of the fan humming and the rain.  If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Tardis Blue :3  Favorite smell? Fresh cut grass after the rain and… the salty warm air by the seaside!  Who was the last person you talked on the phone with? My colleague from Kuala Lumpur. Favorite sport to watch? Ice hockey Hair color? Dark brown. Eye color? Brown Do you wear contacts? Nope. Eh, wait, I do occasionally.   Favorite food? Pasta. Muehehe.  Scary movie or comedy? Definitely comedy.  Last movie you watched? Ninjago with Athena.  What color shirt are you wearing? Mint green.  Summer or winter? Winter, please. I come from a tropical country where it is hot all the bloody time (except during the rainy season). Holy crap. I was in London last year for summer. I nearly died! AND I AM NOT looking forward to going to Kent in Summer next year! T_T  Hugs or kisses? I love giving hugs. COME HERE, LET ME HUG YOU!  Book you’re currently reading? At the present time, I am not reading anything. Work is taking too much of my time, including my free time!  Who do you miss right now? For some kind of odd reason; my colleague’s daughter! XD What’s on your mouse pad? I am using a carpet looking one. XD So, flowers and stuff.  What’s the last TV program you watched? Lucifer :3   What’s the best sound? The sound of rain on a quiet night, topped with classical music (Western and Eastern).  Rolling Stones or The Beatles? I listen to both. Don’t make me choose! But I prefer the Rolling Stones.   What’s the furthest you ever traveled? Toronto.
Do you have a special talent? Does attracting cats’ attentions count though? Everywhere I go... I am bound to be followed by one (if there are cats around). I remember I was at the Hagia Sophia and there were a few cats following me around.
I am not sure if it is just cats though. Even dogs seem to like me (except my Grandpa’s noisy Shih Tzu named Lulu! Oh, and Ee Poh’s annoying dachshund). My BFF’s dog is not a fan of strangers and she seems okay with me despite meeting her for the first time... :\  Where were you born? Good old Kuching, Sarawak. (East Malaysia)
I am going to tag
@swiggle-muffin @vrgxo @nitwitchcoldsage @jiruchan @tokufan1 @vaniri @vanilleeistee @fryed-egg @coolpurple82 @thepandadrawer @thatbellagaze @lady-mz-hyde and… Everybody else who’d want to do this! :D
Oh, @whimsicalparadise @eivalled  - if you guys got time.

“Yeah, Chuckie?” Newt asked, somewhat sarcastically. “And what’s your bloody question?”
Chuck seemed deep in thought. “Well, they found a dead Griever, right?”
“Yeah,” Newt replied. “Thanks for that bit of news.”
Chuck absently tapped his fork against the table for a few seconds. “Well, then who killed the stupid thing?”
Excellent question, Thomas thought. He waited for Newt to answer, but nothing came. He obviously didn’t have a clue.
CHAPTER 16
Thomas spent the morning with the Keeper of the Gardens, “working his butt off,” as Newt would’ve said. Zart was the tall, black-haired kid who’d stood at the front of the pole during Ben’s Banishment, and who for some odd reason smelled like sour milk. He didn’t say much, but showed Thomas the ropes until he could start working on his own. Weeding, pruning an apricot tree, planting squash and zucchini seeds, picking veggies. He didn’t love it, and mostly ignored the other boys working alongside him, but he didn’t hate it nearly as much as what he’d done for Winston at the Blood House.
Thomas and Zart were weeding a long row of young corn when Thomas decided it was a good time to start asking questions. This Keeper seemed a lot more approachable.
“So, Zart,” he said.
The Keeper glanced up at him, then resumed his work. The kid had droopy eyes and a long face—for some reason he looked as bored as humanly possible. “Yeah, Greenie, what you want?”
“How many Keepers total are there?” Thomas asked, trying to act casual. “And what are the job options?”
“Well, you got the Builders, the Sloppers, Baggers, Cooks, Map-makers, Med-jacks, Track-Hoes, Blood Housers. The Runners, of course. I don’t know, a few more, maybe. Pretty much keep to myself and my own stuff.”
Most of the words were self-explanatory, but Thomas wondered about a couple of them. “What’s a Slopper?” He knew that was what Chuck did, but the boy never wanted to talk about it. Refused to talk about it.
“That’s what the shanks do that can’t do nothin’ else. Clean toilets, clean the showers, clean the kitchen, clean up the Blood House after a slaughter, everything. Spend one day with them suckers—that’ll cure any thoughts of goin’ that direction, I can tell ya that.”
Thomas felt a pang of guilt over Chuck—felt sorry for him. The kid tried so hard to be everyone’s friend, but no one seemed to like him or even pay attention to him. Yeah, he was a little excitable and talked too much, but Thomas was glad enough to have him around.
“What about the Track-hoes?” Thomas asked as he yanked out a huge weed, clumps of dirt swaying on the roots.
Zart cleared his throat and kept on working as he answered. “They’re the ones take care of all the heavy stuff for the Gardens. Trenching and whatnot. During off times they do other stuff round the Glade. Actually, a lot of Gladers have more than one job. Anyone tell you that?”
Thomas ignored the question and moved on, determined to get as many answers as possible. “What about the Baggers? I know they take care of dead people, but it can’t happen that often, can it?”
“Those are the creepy fellas. They act as guards and poh-lice, too. Everyone just likes to call ’em Baggers. Have fun that day, brother.” He snickered, the first time Thomas had heard him do so—there was something very likable about it.
Thomas had more questions. Lots more. Chuck and everyone else around the Glade never wanted to give him the answers to anything. And here was Zart, who seemed perfectly willing. But suddenly Thomas didn’t feel like talking anymore. For some reason the girl had popped into his head again, out of the blue, and then thoughts of Ben, and the dead Griever, which should have been a good thing but everyone acted as if it were anything but.
His new life pretty much sucked.
He drew a deep, long breath. Just work, he thought. And he did.
By the time midafternoon arrived, Thomas was ready to collapse from exhaustion—all that bending over and crawling around on your knees in the dirt was the pits. Blood House, Gardens. Two strikes.
Runner, he thought as he went on break. Just let me be a Runner. Once again he thought about how absurd it was that he wanted it so badly. But even though he didn’t understand it, or where it came from, the desire was undeniable. Just as strong were thoughts of the girl, but he pushed them aside as much as possible.
Tired and sore, he headed to the Kitchen for a snack and some water. He could’ve eaten a full-blown meal despite having had lunch just two hours earlier. Even pig was starting to sound good again.
He bit into an apple, then plopped on the ground beside Chuck. Newt was there, too, but sat alone, ignoring everybody. His eyes were bloodshot, his forehead creased with heavy lines. Thomas watched as Newt chewed his fingernails, something he hadn’t seen the older boy do before.
Chuck noticed and asked the question that was on Thomas’s mind. “What’s wrong with him?” the boy whispered. “Looks like you did when you popped out of the Box.”
“I don’t know,” Thomas replied. “Why don’t you go ask him.”
“I can hear every bloody word you guys are saying,” Newt called in a loud voice. “No wonder people hate sleepin’ next to you shanks.”
Thomas felt like he’d been caught stealing, but he was genuinely concerned—Newt was one of the few people in the Glade he actually liked.
“What is wrong with you?” Chuck asked. “No offense, but you look like klunk.”
“Every lovin’ thing in the universe,” he replied, then fell silent as he stared off into space for a long moment. Thomas almost pushed him with another question, but Newt finally continued. “The girl from the Box. Keeps groanin’ and saying all kinds of weird stuff, but won’t wake up. Medjacks’re doing their best to feed her, but she’s eatin’ less each time. I’m tellin’ ya, something’s very bad about that whole bloody thing.”
Thomas looked down at his apple, then took a bite. It tasted sour now—he realized he was worried about the girl. Concerned for her welfare. As if he knew her.
Newt let out a long sigh. “Shuck it. But that’s not what really has me buggin’.”
“Then what does?” Chuck asked.
Thomas leaned forward, so curious he was able to put the girl out of his mind.
Newt’s eyes narrowed as he looked out toward one of the entrances to the Maze. “Alby and Minho,” he muttered. “They should’ve come back hours ago.”
Before Thomas knew it he was back at work, pulling up weeds again, counting down the minutes until he’d be done with the Gardens. He glanced constantly at the West Door, looking for any sign of Alby and Minho, Newt’s concern having rubbed off on him.
Newt had said they were supposed to have come back by noon, just enough time for them to get to the dead Griever, explore for an hour or two, then return. No wonder he’d looked so upset. When Chuck offered up that maybe they were just exploring and having some fun, Newt had given him a stare so harsh Thomas thought Chuck might spontaneously combust.
He’d never forget the next look that had come over Newt’s face. When Thomas asked why Newt and some others didn’t just go into the Maze and search for their friends, Newt’s expression had changed to outright horror—his cheeks had shrunk into his face, becoming sallow and dark. It gradually passed, and he’d explained that sending out search parties was forbidden, lest even more people be lost, but there was no mistaking the fear that had crossed his face.
Newt was terrified of the Maze.
Whatever had happened to him out there—maybe even related to his lingering ankle injury—had been truly awful.
Thomas tried not to think about it as he put his focus back on yanking weeds.
That night dinner proved to be a somber affair, and it had nothing to do with the food. Frypan and his cooks served up a grand meal of steak, mashed potatoes, green beans and hot rolls. Thomas was quickly learning that jokes about Frypan’s cooking were just that—jokes. Everyone gobbled up his food and usually begged for more. But tonight, the Gladers ate like dead men resurrected for one last meal before being sent to live with the devil.
The Runners had returned at their normal time, and Thomas had grown more and more upset as he watched Newt run from Door to Door as they entered the Glade, not bothering to hide his panic. But Alby and Minho never showed up. Newt forced the Gladers to go on and get some of Frypan’s hard-earned dinner, but he insisted on standing watch for the missing duo. No one said it, but Thomas knew it wouldn’t be long before the Doors closed.
Thomas reluctantly followed orders like the rest of the boys and was sharing a picnic table on the south side of the Homestead with Chuck and Winston. He’d only been able to eat a few bites when he couldn’t take it anymore.
“I can’t stand sitting here while they’re out there missing,” he said as he dropped his fork on the plate. “I’m going over to watch the Doors with Newt.” He stood up and headed out to look.
Not surprisingly, Chuck was right behind him.
They found Newt at the West Door, pacing, running his hands through his hair. He looked up as Thomas and Chuck approached.
“Where are they?” Newt said, his voice thin and strained.
Thomas was touched that Newt cared so much about Alby and Minho—as if they were his own kin. “Why don’t we send out a search party?” he suggested again. It seemed so stupid to sit here and worry themselves to death when they could go out there and find them.
“Bloody he—” Newt started before stopping himself; he closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath. “We can’t. Okay? Don’t say it again. One hundred percent against the rules. Especially with the buggin’ Doors about to close.”
“But why?” Thomas persisted, in disbelief at Newt’s stubbornness. “Won’t the Grievers get them if they stay out there? Shouldn’t we do something?”
Newt turned on him, his face flushed red, his eyes flamed with fury.
“Shut your hole, Greenie!” he yelled. “Not a bloody week you’ve been here! You think I wouldn’t risk my life in a second to save those lugs?”
“No … I … Sorry. I didn’t mean …” Thomas didn’t know what to say—he was just trying to help.
Newt’s face softened. “You don’t get it yet, Tommy. Going out there at night is beggin’ for death. We’d just be throwin’ more lives away. If those shanks don’t make it back …” He paused, seeming hesitant to say what everyone was thinking. “Both of ’em swore an oath, just like I did. Like we all did. You, too, when you go to your first Gathering and get chosen by a Keeper. Never go out at night. No matter what. Never.”
Thomas looked over at Chuck, who seemed as pale-faced as Newt.
“Newt won’t say it,” the boy said, “so I will. If they’re not back, it means they’re dead. Minho’s too smart to get lost. Impossible. They’re dead.”
Newt said nothing, and Chuck turned and walked back toward the Homestead, his head hanging low. Dead? Thomas thought. The situation had become so grave he didn’t know how to react, felt a pit of emptiness in his heart.
“The shank’s right,” Newt said solemnly. “That’s why we can’t go out. We can’t afford to make things bloody worse than they already are.”
He put his hand on Thomas’s shoulder, then let it slump to his side. Tears moistened Newt’s eyes, and Thomas was sure that even within the dark chamber of memories that were locked away, out of his reach, he’d never seen someone look so sad. The growing darkness of twilight was a perfect fit for how grim things felt to Thomas.
“The Doors close in two minutes,” Newt said, a statement so succinct and final it seemed to hang in the air like a burial shroud caught in a puff of wind. Then he walked away, hunched over, quiet.
Thomas shook his head and looked back into the Maze. He barely knew Alby and Minho. But his chest ached at the thought of them out there, killed by the horrendous creature he’d seen through the window his first morning in the Glade.
A loud boom sounded from all directions, startling Thomas out of his thoughts. Then came the crunching, grinding sound of stone against stone. The Doors were closing for the night.
The right wall rumbled across the ground, spitting dirt and rocks as it moved. The vertical row of connecting rods, so many they seemed to reach the sky far above, slid toward their corresponding holes on the left wall, ready to seal shut until the morning. Once again, Thomas looked in awe at the massive moving wall—it defied any sense of physics. It seemed impossible.
Then a flicker of movement to the left caught his eyes.
Something stirred inside the Maze, down the long corridor in front of him.
At first, a shot of panic raced through him; he stepped back, worried it might be a Griever. But then two forms took shape, stumbling along the alley toward the Door. His eyes finally focused through the initial blindness of fear, and he realized it was Minho, with one of Alby’s arms draped across his shoulders, practically dragging the boy along behind him. Minho looked up, saw Thomas, who knew his eyes must be bulging out of his head.
“They got him!” Minho shouted, his voice strangled and weak with exhaustion. Every step he took seemed like it could be his last.
Thomas was so stunned by the turn of events, it took a moment for him to act. “Newt!” he finally screamed, forcing his gaze away from Minho and Alby to face the other direction. “They’re coming! I can see ’em!” He knew he should run into the Maze and help, but the rule about not leaving the Glade was seared into his mind.

Picture was clear, but black hole’s name a little fuzzy
Picture was clear, but black hole’s name a little fuzzy Picture was clear, but black hole’s name a little fuzzy https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
WASHINGTON — The newly pictured supermassive black hole is a beast with no name, at least not an official one. And what happens next could be cosmically confusing.
The team of astronomers who created the image of the black hole called it M87(asterisk). (The asterisk is silent.) A language professor has given it a name from a Hawaiian chant — Powehi — meaning “the adorned fathomless dark creation.” And the international group in charge of handing out astronomical names? It has never named a black hole.
The black hole in question is about 53 million light years away in the centre of a galaxy called Messier 87, or M87 for short. On Wednesday, scientists revealed a picture they took of it using eight radio telescopes, the first time humans had actually seen one of the dense celestial objects that suck up everything around them, even light.
The stunning image shows the shadow of the supermassive black hole⚫️ in the center of Messier 87 (M87), an elliptical galaxy ~55 million light-years from Earth🌍
To complement @ehtelescope, NASA spacecraft🛰 also observed the black hole in different wavelengths of light🌈 pic.twitter.com/G6qReGtsOf

The International Astronomical Union usually takes care of names, but only for stuff inside our solar system and stars outside it. It doesn’t have a committee set up to handle other objects, like black holes, galaxies or nebulas.
The last time there was a similar situation, poor Pluto somehow got demoted to a dwarf planet, leading to public outcry, said Williams College astronomer Jay Pasachoff, a star-naming committee member.
Technically, our own galaxy — the Milky Way — has never been officially named by the IAU, said Rick Fienberg, an astronomer and press officer for the American Astronomical Society. He said, “that’s just a term that came down through history.”
“Virtually every object in the sky has more than one designation,” Fienberg said. “The constellations have their official IAU sanctioned names but in other cultures, they have other names.”

THE GIFT OF A NAME
When it comes to the black hole we saw this week , University of Hawaii-Hilo Hawaiian professor Larry Kimura stepped up even before the photo was unveiled.
Powehi (pronounced poh-veh-hee) is the black hole’s Hawaiian name, not its official name, explained Jessica Dempsey, who helped capture the black hole image as deputy director of the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii’s tallest mountain. Hawaii Gov. David Ige proclaimed April 10 as Powehi day, she said.
“This isn’t astronomers naming this,” she said. “This is coming from a cultural expert and language expert. This is him coming to the table and giving us a gift of this name. It’s a gift from Hawaiian culture and history, not the other way around.”
When asked about Kimura’s idea, IAU naming committee member Pasachoff said: “That’s the first I heard of it.”
Eric Mamajek, chairman of the IAU working group on star names, called it a “wonderful, thoughtful name.”
Centre of the Milky Way is teeming with black holes
Super big black hole from early universe farthest ever found
THE PLUTO SITUATION
But Mamajek said his committee may not be the right one to grant the black hole a name. It only does stars.
“This is exactly the Pluto situation,” Pasachoff said.
In 2006, astronomers at the IAU were discussing naming a large object in our solar system that eventually got called Eris. It wasn’t considered a planet, so it wasn’t the job of the planet committee. But some experts pointed out that it was bigger than Pluto, which added some confusion.
The conference decided to reclassify planets, kicked Pluto out of the club of regular planets and made it join the newly established dwarf planets category with Eris, Pasachoff said.
MORE NAMES COMING
The same day the photograph of the black hole was unveiled, the IAU asked the public to choose between three names for an object astronomers call 2007 OR10. It’s an icy planetesimal that circles the sun but gets 100 times further from our star than Earth does.
The three proposed names are Gonggong, a Chinese water god with red hair and a serpent tail; Holle, a European winter goddess of fertility; and Vili, a Nordic deity and brother of Odin.
The IAU is trying to bring in more languages and cultures into the naming game, Pasachoff and Fienberg said. And soon the IAU will ask the public to help name 100 planets outside our solar system.
As astronomers gaze further into the cosmos, Pasachoff said, “we will need more names.”

Tumblr media
I JUST TRIED POKĒ FOR THE FIRST TIME, and HERE’S HOW IT WENT...
If you Google search Aloha Poke Co., you’ll find numerous articles from the past year about the Chicago-based restaurant’s trademarking controversies. Furthermore, searching for them on social media will likely result in various commentary telling you to boycott the place entirely because of said controversies. This stateside (even worse, Midwestern) brand has repeatedly sent cease-and-desist letters to other pokē companies, including native Hawaiian ones, telling them to no longer use “Aloha” and/or “Aloha Poke” in any sort of branding. That’s like telling a Midwesterner to not use the words “hot dish” or “casserole”; it’s kind of impossible.
Although I do not agree with Aloha Pokē’ Co.’s proceedings as such (especially when itself does not have any native Hawaiians among its founders), and even briefly considered joining the boycott... I was too intrigued about trying pokē to stay away. Sorry, protestors, I crossed over to the dark side. And I’m probably staying there, because I have fallen in love with this dish.
Tumblr media
I was already a dedicated fan of sushi before trying Aloha, and from what I’ve previously understood about pokē, it’s essentially deconstructed sushi in a bowl. I still consider that an accurate and best possible description for those who don’t know anything about this Hawaiian staple. Pronounced “poh-kay,” this dish is comprised of diced raw fish (Aloha Pokē Co. also has tofu or cooked chicken if you’re not a fan), fresh cut vegetables and other toppings, and flavor-packed sauces, all served over a bed of rice. The word pokē itself actually means “to slice” or to “cut crosswise into pieces” in Hawaiian, or also “chunk” depending on your source material. It is a dish that has been around for centuries, is very healthy for you, and major bonus: it is customizable to your tastes.
But let’s get to the good stuff... the experience of eating it!
My favorite thing to do when trying a new “fast food” place like this (and I will repeat it over and over) is to ask the employees their recommendations; who better to suggest than those who work with the product every day! I especially wanted to ask during this particular visit because I have never tried pokē before. As is popular in quick food places these days, Aloha Pokē Co. is incredibly customizable to individual tastes. Customers choose a bowl size, their base (white or brown rice, or mixed greens), a protein that is either marinated or “naked,” then top with any amount of other ingredients as they see fit – anything from seaweed, edamame, and cucumber, scallions and sweet Maui onions, to avocado, pinneapple, jalapeños, and “crunch” fried onions. Even the sauces can be combined to form a unique (and dare I say perfect) blend of sweet, savory, and spicy that really does bring everything together.
The small corner location I visited within a strip-mall-esque development was surprisingly vacant on a damp and chilly Friday night. But there’s no doubt since opening that it has piqued the interest of many residents here. In the time I spent enjoying my noms, a handful of people started their discussion with “We haven’t been here before.” Oh good, haha, it wasn’t just me that day. But the staff were more than understanding and very accommodating.
When I made my way to the counter and let it be known that I was a newb, the first thing she asked – which solidifies my sushi-in-a-bowl description – was “Do you like sushi?” When I responded yes, but that I hadn’t had pokē before, she says we’ll do this in baby steps. Very much like Chipotle and other buildable restaurants, you just make your way through the list. Size, base, protein, other ingredients, sauce. Easy peasy. She also asked questions in relation to sushi, to help make decisions about what to add.
Once a size of bowl was determined, we discussed what sushi rolls I would typically go for.  In my case, I like salmon, tuna, and shrimp rolls – all of which are addable proteins to these pokē bowls – but on this particular day, I was in the mood for salmon and shrimp. These then come with the option of “naked” or marinated in sesame + shoyu (a darker soy sauce). The cashier neglected to ask, but gave me marinated. I say that is an excellent choice. Another layer of flavor is always welcome.
Although Aloha Pokē Co. does have bowls with predetermined ingredients and sauces (called “House Bowls”), many who eat here choose their own additions. For mine, we simply went through all the options and she asked if I liked them or not. Cucumber was a given; nix on the jalapeños. Because I prefer a sweeter taste, I went for the Maui onion (a native of Hawaii) over scallions. Naturally, I added avocado (yum!), but then got a bit more adventurous by adding seaweed (not the dried stuff typical of a sushi roll, but the actual wet version of it), pickled ginger like that which is typically served alongside sushi, and “crunch,” which is fried onions.
The sauces were mildly intimidating to choose from, since some are given names like “Volcano,” “Samurai,” and “Yuzu Ranch,” rather than true descriptors like “Spicy Aioli” and “Sesame Vinaigrette.” Thankfully, it is possibly to eliminate choices by determining whether you want spicy or not. Based on more recommendations by the helpful cashier, I went with Samurai (sweet + savory), with Spicy Aioli (tangy + spicy mayo) and Yuzu Ranch (Japanese citrus ranch) on the side that I could add as I pleased. As per her description, the spiciness of aioli (which was actually similar to the sriracha mayo I make at home) is offset by the sweetness of Samurai, while the Yuzu adds another level of creamy citrusy taste. I could have honestly went without the Ranch, and the Samurai sauce was delicious on it’s own, but the sweet and spicy combo of the aioli and Samurai was the epitome of umami with the other ingredients.
Because I’m such a nerd, the icing on the cake of this experience was eating most of the pokē bowl using chopsticks; when it got down to mostly rice, I just gave up my struggles and used a fork. But my god, it was so delicious! I felt bad for stirring it all around, because the ingredients were so beautifully placed. I don’t know why, but it felt like I was eating a salad. And I would consider this the best “salad” I’ve ever had. The combination of ingredients is so fresh, and the fusion of Hawaiian-Japanese elements is brimming with flavors that, when eaten together, are just... for lack of a better word, perfect. Each bite is different enough, but each ingredient within each variation still works incredibly well. From the creaminess of the avocado and seafood, to the tang and crunch of the ginger, it is an adventure from start to finish.
Having played it safe for my first trip by getting the “Little” bowl, I will openly admit that I could have gone back to the counter for more upon finishing my meal. It was so good. And the little bowl was the perfect portion size for a taste. I have yet to decide if the larger bowls would be... too much after a while? or if I could have eaten more in one sitting? Only more trips will tell.
I would absolutely recommend trying pokē bowls in general. Researching them more once I got home after my first trip to Aloha Pokē, I discovered that they are actually very good for you. Packed with Omega-3s and “good fats,” Rojak Daily’s informant certified nutritionist Emiza Merican claims that a bowl of pokē is less than 200 calories. Delicious AND healthy? Don’t gotta tell me twice! I’d gladly go back tomorrow!
Obviously not everyone shares or will share my enthusiasm – including native Hawaiians, who claim that the “mainland pokē” in general is ruining the concept of real culturally influenced pokē of the islands – but those with adventurous palates like mine will at least have some sort of delectable experience by giving this place a try. And with those options for people who don’t like raw seafood, it can be tried without even having to go near raw fish. So that means bonus for me: I can bring some of my closest friends with me next time!

Last KH3 playthrough post! Endgame spoilers are below the cut.
Just a warning: This post is REALLY long and contains, um… opinions.
I’m glad the final battle trailer scenes happen right off the bat. I had no idea what would come next, and it made the experience that much more interesting.
Why do none of these keyslingers know how to block? First Aqua tries to shield Ven with her own body, then Sora does the same for Kairi. Just hit square, guys.
ZETTAFLARE DONALD ILU SO MUCH
The way Riku and Aqua stepped up to Sora’s side made me think they were going to be party members in another demon tide battle, but nope. Boo.
I’m surprised that Aqua just… let the demon tide take her? What the hell?
Sora loses Kairi, Donald, and Goofy and just… crumbles. He completely gives up and says it’s all over. Riku almost starts to try to soothe him, but instead, he gets up, tells Sora that he knows that’s bullshit, and then faces off against the demon tide (which was polite enough to wait for Sora and Riku to finish their conversation before attacking, by the way). It’s like a moment of tough love, and it’s actually what I was expecting Roxas to do back when I assumed he would be the one to show up in the Graveyard and pull Sora back on his feet. I wasn’t expecting a bunch of reassurances like “no, you’re not worthless, we can still do this, everything will be okay” but rather, “Get up, we’re not finished here.”
So Riku confronts the heartless and Sora just… watches in horror as they take him, too. And he doesn’t even fight back when they turn and come for him. And then the screen cuts to black and shows the final line of the prophecy, and… That was a really effective way to end that scene. Damn.
Yeah, I don’t know how to play chess, but I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to just conjure extra pieces from thin air, Eraqus. That was a nice line from him, though, about light from the past. Like, “The light doesn’t need time travel bullshit to kick your ass because HEARTS.”
Sora fucking died. Sora actually, literally fucking died. He goes to the Final World because he died. Holy shit.
The Final World is beautiful, and the music is lovely, too. The first thing I did after getting control again was take some selfies of dead Sora, ngl.
Sora’s been to the Final World before in his sleep, and Chirithy just let him pass through lmao.
Who is the first star that Sora talks to here? At first I thought it was Xion, but she says a “somebody” sent her to the Final World, so… Strelitzia? Ava? Skuld? lol I like that Sora just sits down next to her like this conversation’s the most normal thing ever. He’s dead and talking to another dead person, and he just rolls with it. I love this kid.
Some of the optional star conversations really got to me. One of them says that their friends replaced them after they died (“That was my seat. That was my place at the table.”). There’s also one that was apparently a child looking for their father, and that one actually made me tear up.
I’m not sure who the one who talked about being “identical” was. I think a third talks about their mentor, and perhaps that was a past keyblade apprentice? Another says that people teased them and a friend about being an item, and they pulled away from the relationship, and the other person never closed the distance. All of their little stories are just… sad. Jesus.
Naminé has a star! I missed her star on my first playthrough, but I replayed this part just for her scene. I wish I’d gotten it the first time, though. She clarifies that Kairi’s the one keeping Sora tethered to the world of the living. And god, Naminé’s words are so sad. She truly doesn’t think anyone really misses her or that she matters at all. But Sora says that he and the others (including “someone else special,” who I think may’ve been Xion?) miss her and want her back. AND she mentions her conversation with Terra from the orchestra! Holy shit, WHY was this conversation optional? That was important story stuff that explained why Lingering Will shows up when we rehash the fight in the Graveyard. Naminé came through for everyone in a pretty major way, and if you don’t talk to her star (which is VERY easy to miss), you’d never know it. Though… I guess that’s kind of fitting in a meta way. Naminé helping people from behind the scenes and not expecting any credit, I mean. Still, I wish I hadn’t missed this on my first playthrough. Anyway, Naminé’s “Let’s just say I’ve got your back?” was really cute. And then Sora thanks her and gets all flustered. “That’s not the official thank-you!”
I’m… still not clear on what exactly the power of waking is or how it differs from restoring someone’s heart the old-fashioned way (i.e. taking a Keblade of Heart to the chest), but okay.
JIMINY SURVIVED ALL OF THAT JFSKLFFJL
I liked going through the different worlds to save all of Sora’s friends. It was a nice callback to KH1, when you visit different worlds in End of the World, and when you get to Realm of Chaos and have to rescue Donald and Goofy from Ansem SoD’s heartless… ship… thing. It was really annoying fighting the same boss over and over again, though. It wasn’t difficult (save for one instance where the lich spammed aeroga and pinned me against the ceiling. I only survived because it triggered rage form.), and I get that it was just a series of symbolic battles, but I dunno, maybe just giving him less HP for me to have to mow down would’ve made it less tedious.
So the power of waking is “traversing hearts to reach worlds.” So I guess that’s what Sora was doing while falling through the different Stations of Awakening and then arriving in different worlds.
“There’s no saving you.” Fuck, okay, after finishing the game, this line in the sleeping San Fransokyo hits a lot harder. You think Kid Xehanort knows that Team Nort is planning to snatch Kairi and use Sora’s desire to save her to ultimately destroy him? Because if so… ugh.
Sora and Kairi’s little spin when they reunite is so cute.
“I feel strong with you, Kairi.” Awww but also UGHHHHHHHH because I know what’s coming. And then Sora has flashbacks to Eugene and Anna sacrificing themselves for someone they love, and I’m not 100% sure why. Is it just foreshadowing his sacrifice for Kairi? Is he afraid that her rescuing him will cost her her own life? Whatever it is, Kairi seems to read Sora’s mind and says that he’s safe with her. And again, that’s really sweet, and I like that her PoH powers are FINALLY being explored in some way, but fuck, knowing how this all ends makes watching this scene so painful the second time around.
I was so confused when Sora was revived and we started replaying that confrontation scene in the Graveyard. The first time I played it, I was very seriously considering skipping the cutscene and reloading my save because I thought I’d gone the wrong way or something, but then Lingering Will showed up and the scene changed. Phew. I guess we went in a little time loop there. But wait, if everyone’s aware that Sora revived them, then they must remember how they were taken in the first place, right? If that’s the case, why the hell did Ven run up to Terra a second time? Why didn’t anyone stop him? Why did Aqua have to look “Terra” in the eye a second time to know it wasn’t him? Am I to assume that if Naminé hadn’t summoned Lingering Will, these dingdongs would’ve all lost their hearts AGAIN?
I’m so over demon tide boss fights, but damn if that battle theme doesn’t kick ass.
EPHEMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT, OF ALL THE THINGS I NEVER SAW COMING. He helps Sora use the keyblades of all the fallen wielders from the first war to fight off the heartless, and you use the names of all those KHUX users who won that KH3 contest as attacks. Oh my gosh, what a sweet tribute. I like thinking that Larkey’s keyblade helped, too. <3
Oh god, when KH1 Riku showed up and Forze Del Male started playing, my entire life flashed before my eyes. I DID NOT want a rehash of that fight. I was relieved that I didn’t have to, but I was also just a little disappointed because that Xehanort shadow that emerges from him looked like a cool potential boss. I feel like there are actually a lot of scenes that happened in the Graveyard that would’ve worked better as actual battles or gameplay, tbh.
Also, that Forze De Male remix was hot as hell.
R.I.P. to all of fandom’s “Yen Sid is useless” jokes. What a way to go.
“You’re a whole pint by yourself, Sora.” I LOVE THIS DUCK SO MUCH.
I like that the maze tries to force you to choose between helping Riku or Mickey first like it’s some tragic moral dilemma. Like oh gee, let me think: Best written character in the series, or corporate icon Ricky Rat? That said, I actually did go to Mickey first just because I couldn’t get past the moving wall puzzle lmao. I wish this area had had a few more puzzles, though. I felt like I breezed through it way too fast.
Riku is really nerfed as a party member. He was CONSTANTLY KO’d in my fight against the Norts. Like damn dude, even Kairi stayed conscious through her battle (all 5 seconds of it, but still).
Repliku tears himself away from his own vessel and leaves it. For Naminé. Fuck, I didn’t expect that at all. What a great scene, and what a better ending for a character whose story I thought ended in CoM. I loved that.
Didn’t love that Riku and Sora just left Naminé’s vessel facedown in the dirt, though. Like… at least prop it against the wall or something guys, geez.
I like that you get a sort of farewell scene between the heroes and all the main villains of the series. It may’ve been a little fanservicey, but oh well. I’m not so hot on it from a story standpoint. Like I know we’re doing the anime thing where “I defeated you in battle, now we’re cool” but it still felt… odd. But at least it’s not as obnoxious as what comes up later with Master Xehanort.
I liked Larxene’s take on this especially, how she’d rather be destroyed than be a Nort. Why she joined up in the first place is still a mystery… And her answering Sora the way she did implies that the Norts aren’t just possessed mind slaves. They do have agency, though I guess that was clear from Even and Demyx turning against them, now that I remember it.
Building on the agency thing, I liked Vanitas’s scene with Ven. Ven wanted so badly for Vanitas to come to the light, but… It really wasn’t what Vanitas wanted for himself. “We decide who we are.” “I did decide who I am.” It’s tragic, but I like that it showed that not everyone was getting a happy ending from this game, and that there are some people you just can’t save.
COME GUARDIAN WAS TERRA’S HEARTLESS AFTER ALL. FUCK YES. I love that theory and I’m so happy it turned out to be correct!!!!!
And then we finally get a Wayfinder reunion!!!!!!
“What final words do you have for your superior?” Okay, I know this game is rated E10, but I half expected Axel to just look up and say “Fuck you.”
Xemnas and Axel’s conversation was so meta. Axel bragging about how popular he was, Xemnas calling Axel’s keyblade a joke. Like… Damn, they really paid attention to fandom over the years, didn’t they? I just wish they’d paid this much attention to all the fans who wanted a good storyline for Kairi. Anywho, Xemnas destroys Axel’s keyblade, so we lose two Lights from this scene. I’m kind of grateful that happened, actually. Having Axel lose his spot made it a little easier to accept Kairi losing hers. But only a little. Kairi getting kidnapped AGAIN was still stupid and contrived.
Unlike the other Norts, Xion’s apparently not acting on her own free will when the fight starts. Sora telling her “You can stop now” seemed to break something within her. And then Xemnas turns to attack her, and Sora’s heart reaches out to someone, and then BOOM. Roxas shows up to sass Xemnas and save the day!!!
I barely did anything in that Isa fight, lmao. I tried to land a few hits on him, but then I realized Roxas could handle him just fine alone, so I just hung back with Xion and cast cure here and there.
I’m disappointed that there’s almost no interaction between Roxas and Sora beyond a couple of nods, tbh. It’s kind of a weak payoff after all the fuss Sora made about wanting to save Roxas at the start of the game. That was what Sora decided to fight for “with all his heart,” and then once Roxas is back, we just keep blazing ahead with the story without a moment to appreciate the fact that he accomplished his goal (or rather, someone else accomplished it for him).
Aww, Xion looked so left out when she stood of to the side and started crying. It was almost like she was hesitant to join Axel and Roxas after she came so close to almost killing both of them. She didn’t even reach for the other two when Axel pulled them into a group hug, she just kept her hands clasped tight together and sort of curled in on herself. Aw, honey. Anyway, I’m glad these three will get to be together again.
I half expected Riku to snap “ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?” when Sora tells him that Kairi’s been kidnapped.
I liked both Xemnas and Ansem SoD’s sendoffs. Kid Xehanort doesn’t give a shit that he lost, though, he just fucks off back to the past knowing damn well what’s about to happen. And to that, I again say ugh.
And then we get… that scene. What the fuck did Xehanort mean by “You need motivation.”? Motherfucker, we are already out here in the Keyblade Graveyard having this showdown. Kingdom Hearts is looming above us. Sora just got done killing all ninety-seven billion Xehanorts. This fight is happening no matter what you do. This doesn’t make any fucking sense. Having Xehanort kill off Kairi was stupid and unnecessary and pointless and lazy and truly horrible, horrible writing. And see, I can’t even give Nomura the benefit of the doubt here because he actually had Xehanort call Kairi Sora’s “motivation.” That was it. That was the only reason Xehanort killed her. Not because she was a keyblade wielder who was in the way of his goal, not because she was a Princess of Heart whose power could pose a threat. Not because of anything Kairi did or who she was as a person, but because she was a THING that was important to Sora. Fuck that. Fuck that entire scene, fuck everything about it, fuck everyone who gave that writing decision the green light. Fuck it. And knowing how this game ends (with Sora apparently sacrificing himself to save Kairi), Kairi now has more motivation than EVER to fight to get him back, but you know Nomura won’t give a shit when it comes time to write scenarios for KH4. He’s just gonna throw Kairi back on the islands and have Riku be the hero. Riku will find Sora, they’ll have adventures together and apart, they’ll continue to grow as characters, and then they’ll go home to where Kairi’s just sitting pretty, waiting to be the perfect reward for everything Sora’s accomplished. So there you go, that’s Kingdom Hearts IV. I just saved you $50 in the future (not adjusted for inflation).
Just. Jesus Christ, of all the idiotic tone-deaf bullshit… To have so much self-awareness while writing Naminé’s dialogue in the Final World and Axel’s scene with Xemnas in the Graveyard and then NONE OF THAT WHATSOEVER when it came to writing Kairi’s final scenes… That’s unreal. It’s almost unbelievable, but I really shouldn’t be surprised. Nomura’s pulled this shit before, so oop @ me for actually expecting better from him. Lesson fucking learned.
Anyway, after we get past all that stupid sexist bullshit that I actively hated, Sora gets ready to leave for the next area. I like that Donald and Goofy literally pick him up off the ground and help him stand, and that they go with him afterward. I just love the Trinity Trio in this game so much. They feel so much like a family now, and since I’m clearly never ever ever ever getting any decent Destiny Trio development, that’s a nice comfort. The other keyslingers stay behind to keep Kingdom Hearts shut, and Xion tells Sora that she can sense that Kairi will be okay, which… Yeah, alright. I just saw Xehanort slash into her back and shatter her into thousands of pieces, but no, I’m sure she’s fine. flskjdf Okay, sorry, I get what that scene with Xion was trying to do, but it just doesn’t make any sense? Xion is Sora’s replica, not Kairi’s. I could buy that she can sense Sora’s heart, but she has no real connection to Kairi’s at all, so how would she know that Kairi’s okay? Maybe she was just saying that as a way to comfort Sora, like a “she’ll always be in your heart” kind of thing, but even that feels off. Like that’s the kind of thing you say to someone a couple weeks after the funeral, not right there at the crime scene. Oh well. I guess it was sweet that she at least wanted him to hear that.
Then we get to Scala ad Caelum, which was kind of a letdown, really. I was hoping to get to explore the city, but you really just have one large area that’s ultimately just a battlefield. The boss battles weren’t much of a challenge at all, and you don’t even have to defeat them all, which was disappointing, but eh. The only tense moment was when Xehanort triggered Sora’s rage form in the final battle, but Donald and Goofy kept me healed up enough that it wasn’t much of a problem.
Xehanort uses the “one sky, one destiny” line from Kairi’s letter. Like it’s not enough that he killed her, he’s gotta plagiarize her, too. Dick.
Donald and Goofy help Sora ward off Xehanort’s final attack! Like they literally, physically help him push back against it! I love these half-pints. <3
Eraqus! He asks Terra to look after his other apprentices for him, aw.
Xehanort gives Sora the X-blade, and there’s no “sorry I killed your friend” or anything. He just goes on to be at peace with Eraqus. Seriously? This dude abuses Ven, hijacks Terra’s body, throws Aqua into the Realm of Darkness, murders Kairi, and he still gets to pass on peacefully into the next life with his bff? Come the fuck on.
Hearing “Always On My Mind” again was nice. That was always one of my favorite tracks from KH1.
Okay, after rewatching the ending cinematic, it makes a lot more sense to me. Riku suggests that they all go back to Yen Sid’s place to figure out how to save Kairi (which… why are we all acting like this is something that can just be undone? She wasn’t taken into darkness by the heartless like before; Xehanort struck her down. We didn’t see her heart leave her body or anything, she just shattered. To me, that looks like an E10-rated game’s version of death.), but Sora knows what he has to do. It wasn’t until the second time through this ending that I realized he was already planning on waking her heart at the expense of his own life. Knowing that, it’s a little odd that Riku just lets him go with a roundabout way of saying “I believe in you.” Kairi’s supposedly Riku’s friend, too, isn’t she? And he knows how to wake sleeping hearts, too, so why couldn’t he go with Sora to find her?
I loved seeing the Wayfinder Trio laying flowers at Eraqus’s memorial. I also like that keyblades are apparently used specifically for this when the wielder has passed on. That’s a nice bit of world building. And Chirithy is reunited with Ven after all (who apparently remembers them)! Aww. I still don’t know how the hell Ven exists in this timeline, but still. Aw.
I love Xion’s new outfit, and that she and her boys got to go back to Twilight Town together. I’m not so hot on Isa being there, though, and I’m really put off by how chummy he and Roxas seem. I know these scenes are taking place after a little time has passed, so maybe there was some tension between them at first that we just don’t see because it’s not particularly relevant, but still… Anyway, a shadow passes over them for a moment, and I think it must’ve been the gummi ship arriving to pick them up and take them to a party on Destiny Islands. Nice.
When I got to the scene of Naminé waking up in Radiant Garden… I actually started sobbing. Like that’s embarrassing to admit, but that scene hit me so hard. Just watching her open her eyes, and then seeing Dilan and Aeleus lead her out to the courtyard where the ship lands. Seeing her smile when Riku holds out his hand to her… I started crying while typing this up just remembering it, haha. I loved that moment so, so much. I’m so happy she gets to be her own person, that Ansem helped restore her to finally give her a life of her own after everything he put her through. I love that Riku’s the person to welcome her onto the ship, that he’s doing this for the Replica who gave up the vessel for her, but also because she’s been his friend, too (albeit largely off-screen). And the final shot of her laying her hand so gently in his... Holy god, what a finale shot. That scene ALONE was worth the thirteen year wait for me. I am truly stunned that that was part of the ending, that Naminé—of all characters—was the final person they built up to. That was just so much more than I had ever hoped for for her.
And then the actual final scene. You have all the main characters playing on the beach. Xion and Naminé are finding seashells; Riku, Roxas, and Terra are running around doing… something; the Twilight Town kids and Goofy and Donald are making sand castles; Lea, Ven, and Isa are playing frisbee. And then everyone stops to look at Sora and Kairi on the paopu tree. Sora vanishes, and you see Kairi start to slowly curl in on herself as the scene fades to black. And… upon rewatch, I actually like this ending? I was confused the first time I watched it because I didn’t have Kid Xehanort’s words in San Fransokyo fresh on my mind at the time, but when I went back and watched all the scenes together, I understood that Sora woke up her heart, and him “abusing” that power took its toll. I’m alright with us actually not seeing him do this (or at least, I’m not bothered by that by itself. I’m really bothered that it happened like that after Kairi got fridged the way she did, but on its own, it’s fine.). I’m upset that Sora’s gone, but truthfully, I was sort of expecting it. And like I said in my tirade about Kairi’s writing a few bullet points up, you know he’ll be back. It’s just really upsetting to know that Kairi now has to live with the guilt over the fact that he gave up his life for her, and that—as far as she knows—she’ll never see him again. And you just know that Nomura will absolutely, positively not let her do anything about it come KH4, to which I can only say, again: UGH.
I don’t care about Braig being Luxu, bye.
I think I’m still too raw from the emotional highs (and lows) of this game to really analyze everything as clearly as I’d like. There’s still stuff I want to talk about, but I’ll save that for another time. I can’t deny how much I enjoyed everything that happened before Kairi got fridged, but man, that one point really sours a lot of this game for me.
But yeah, that’s all for now.

Thanks to due to Corona we meet online so I hang out in a different strand that's extremely helpful to my work and learn about HTML, XML, TEI and coding. I did some of that in school but that's 15 years ago so it's good to have it repeated.
