These dumb requirements for level 44 in Pokémon GO has me looking up the PVP meta stuff and I don’t think is very fun? It’s no surprise that people just beat up on their alt accounts to meet this ‘challenge’.

Learning Curve
So there’s a bit of a learning curve on the pokey mans. Like you can bop around and get to level like, ten on vibes and whatnot, and you lose as many rocket grunt fights as you win and that’s rough because revives are hard to come by so sometimes you’re running around with a bunch of fainted pokeys in your inventory feeling guilty about them lying there in comas or whatever, but you think, I’ll get the hang of this, I’ll figure out how the stupid combat works, no problem!
I’m just gonna go ahead and tell you, you won’t. If you’ve played other Pokemon games maybe, because those apparently? Explain? How the nineteen-way Rock/Paper/Scissors thing goes? But Pokemon Go is not going to hold your hand or indeed even show you a pathway. You’re kind of alone in a room with no light switches or doors here, bud.
You’re gonna have to go to a web browser and search it. Maybe download a graphic or something, keep that to hand. I am so uniquely learning-disabled special that I couldn’t understand those, so a friend made a Google sheet for me. I was fully level 20 before I understood that the attacks are for offense, and the type vulnerabilities are for defense. So if you have a guy of type Scissors but his attacks are Rock, when you put him in against a Scissors type he’ll beat her, and if the Scissors type you're fighting has Paper attacks, she'll be useless against your guy, but fortunately Pokemon extends that out to literally nineteen dimensions so that specific scenario will almost never happen. (Fire beats Ice! Ice beats Ground! Ground beats Fire! Dragon beats Dragon! what does it mean)
But anyway. I’m in the unfortunate situation that I like to send and receive gifts so I’ve curated this extensive friends list, because I genuinely love looking at the postcards and putting the stickers on them and all, but it turns out this gives you loads of XP and makes you level up, and you’d think that’d be great but what it really means is that I broke level 30 while still not knowing how the goddamned combat goes, and so the various fights I’m expected to participate in all expect me to know what the heck I’m doing which I don’t.
The only saving grace is that I expanded my item bag enough that I can hold a deeper bench of loot and also started getting more revives in my loot drops at some point (I have a superstitious belief that if you have a lot of pokemon currently defending gyms then the random selection of loot drops from pokestop spins is more likely to give you revives; I have no idea whether this is true or not but I believe it superstitiously) so I’m getting by. I constantly have two tabs open on my phone browser, though: 1) the sheet my friend made me of pokemon attack/defense weaknesses and strengths, and 2) a Silph Road page that lists all the possible encounters from Rocket Grunts and leaders, and so every single time I double-check the possible types with their weaknesses and stack my crew. (Oh yeah I have a third tab, since that silph road page doesn't explain the types, where I can look up each individual guy and figure out what its type actually is. Yes this takes forever.) I had a really nice halcyon time between levels 25-30 where I could half-ass Rocket Grunt encounters and still expect to win them, so my buddy got a lot of battle hearts in that golden era, but then I leveled up and the combat got harder and now if I make one careless selection (like not realizing the new lineup of “dark” pokemon from the rocket grunt actually had three Poison types in that iteration-- two Dark/Poison dual types but one just straight Poison type that wasn’t Dark at all, because I guess that’s fair?), which not only resist damage from the standard Dark counters, they also inflict extra damage specifically on Fairy types, so I’d just conscientiously fielded a trio of extremely vulnerable pokemon, upside-down-smiley-emoj) then I lose crushingly.
So anyway.
In the middle of this I got to the point where I was expected to beat the Rocket Boss, an extremely weird guy called Giovanni, and I’m going to have to separately explain how I did that. Spoiler alert: I did not do that on my first, seventh, twelfth try, but I succeeded through the power of friendship.

So. Fun fact about me and Pokemon: I have played at least one game of every set since Crystal.
I also have historically TERRIBLE shiny luck. Like, up until the Switch era, I had gotten THREE unscripted shinies. (This has improved since Let’s Go.) One was a Smoochum from the Dizzy Punch Egg in Crystal. Being in Crystal, she couldn’t transfer over, and it took me well over a year to realize she was shiny because the anime made Smoochum pretty pink and I was eight and didn’t really notice the special sparkle that only it and the red Gyarados had.
One was in either Moon or Ultra Moon. Shiny Pineco. Gold. Sparkly. I have no strong feelings about this except that it was my first shiny encounter in a literal decade and I actually caught it, so I like it.
But then. BUT THEN. There was the shiny Wooper I encountered in Platinum. I love Wooper! I was so excited to see a shiny! I was using Piplup but like for a shiny Wooper I was probably willing to rearrange my team so I could use it!
It was in the Safari Zone and fled almost immediately.
I have never gotten over this. Shiny Wooper, to this day, is my white whale. I still check every Wooper I encounter in Go just in case.
I just saw next month’s Community Day Pokemon.
So yeah, I’m having a totally normal one at the moment and will be TOTALLY NORMAL on November 5th from 2 PM to 5 PM.

go battle league
gonna go out on a limb here and say that the 5mg lab-tested genuinely meaningfully labeled half-dose of an actual legal weed gummy from a NYS dispensary is fully adequate as a dose and if i took the whole thing i'd meet god, but in the meantime, optimal state in which to be playing pokemon go battle league with a deliberately shitty team trying to lose. I am actually winning more than I do when I have a good team and am trying.
(so many people are out here trying to lose just to get that stardust reward for participating, just like me, omg, if you actually like winning go battle league best hop on right now)

sorry abt the sudden honkai posting but this game has taken my brain hostage for the time being
#turn based combat go brrrrrrrrrrr#this games so much easier for me to just sit down and play than genshin man turn based combat is so much easier on me#like i enjoy genshin a lot bc i find the characters and lore really cool but playing it. feels more like a chore than anything else?#so i just. dont bother#also updates are a nightmare bc of my shit internet but that's a different problem#but star rail? SHIT this combat is easy as fuck to comprehend#was trying to articulate this to friends earlier but didnt quite get there#but i can actually strategize a lot better w/ turn based than i can real time stuff#bc. my brain isnt being constantly overloaded w/ information and i can sorta take my time thinking on what to do#w/ the amt of Stuff on screen at one time in genshin combat sometimes monkey brain takes over and just starts pressing buttons#turn based stuff? i can take however the fuck long i need to process shit#also its just. more fun lmao. idk maybe its bc i was like fully raised on pokemon but turn based games just click in my brain#only problem is w/ me rushing MYSELF when doing pvp stuff in shit like pokemon#bc i dont wanna hold the other person up so i force myself to make a decision quickly#usually. the wrong decision. bc when i get panicked monkey brain takes over and just chooses the first thing that comes to mind#(this. is also why i suck ass at mtg lmao i rush myself when figuring out what to do bc i dont wanna hold my opponent up)#anyways. star rail fun :)#shut up virgil#unsure if this is going to fully rot the brain but it sure is fun so far so who knows
