Here's a progress pic for the Control inspired piece I'm currently working on! I plan to have the finished piece up for the launch of Alan Wake 2. 

I switched over to using Clip Studio near the beginning of this project. Overall I really love it, but text editing is borderline impossible. Trying to figure out the background text for this has been a nightmare, but I'm excited for you guys to see it once it's done!

“What’s your favorite color?”

The questions crashed into Polaris like an out of control carriage. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to chat with the people he traveled with, but he’d kept his distance. Until the young daughter of a merchant approached him and asked. Mostly, others avoided him for his strange appearance and refusal to talk much about his past. It made him feel all the more isolated.

“My favorite color?” Polaris repeated while he thought for a moment. “A light purple,” he told the girl with a small smile.

“Okay!! Then I have the perfect thing to make you feel better! You always look so sad, and I made a whole bunch of these for everyone!” The girl rummaged through the small bag on her shoulder before gently placing a crown of light purple flowers on his head.

Polaris couldn’t help but smile at the small gesture, he hadn’t received a gift in ages. Not since…he couldn’t think about that, he didn’t want to start crying. “Thank you, it’s beautiful. I’ll treasure it forever,” his voice wavered a bit but the girl hadn’t noticed.

“You’re welcome, mister!! We should be friends, that way you won’t look so lonely anymore. I’m going to ask my daddy if-”

“Adelaide!! Get away from that man, he’s dangerous!!” The gruff voice of the girl’s father rang out.

“But Daddy, he doesn’t seem-”

“Don’t argue with me. That man is trouble, and I don’t want you near him. He might hurt you!”

“Sorry, mister. Don’t worry though, I’ll get Daddy to be nice to you and then we can be friends,” she said as she skipped away and rejoined her father.

Later, Polaris sat and held his flower crown. The delicate petals were a light, soft purple. “Just like his eyes…” he thought. “The way his eyes looked before I-before I ruined everything,” the bitter thought echoed.

Polaris’s mind filled with memories, soft purple eyes full of love and concern. No fear even when they realized that the cursed, un-bandaged hands had made contact with smooth, golden skin. A final kiss before the kindness left those eyes, before the once loving hands turned harsh. Before-

Polaris hadn’t realized he was crying until he felt tears fall onto his hands. He hastily wiped the tears away, tucking the flower crown into his bag and getting ready to hit the road again.
