Police are already over 3/4 more likely to respond aggressively to left-wing protesters than right-wing protesters regardless of danger. Can you imagine what would happen if police were given permission to treat all protesters as terrorists? Beware of expansions of anti-protest measures masquerading as anti-terrorism. It wasn’t a failure of intel that let 1/6 happen and almost led to us seeing elected public servants executed on live TV. Republicans are already trying to weaponize this outrage against civil rights movements. Remember - the feds were able to track down one BLM protester by the shirt she got off Etsy, yet somehow with ALL the warning signs, 1/6 was alloys happen. #protest #protests #blacklivesmatter #whitesupremacyisterrorism #whitesupremacy #antiterrorism #antifascism #uspolitics #politics #nojusticenopeace #standupfightback #blm #antifascist #trumpsupporters #attemptedcoup #callyourrepresentatives #policing #cops #policebrutality #policemilitarization https://www.instagram.com/p/CKWjvMasoU6/?igshid=31zuophmhkai

Small Town #SWAT team: An investigation into the “militarization of Mayberry” in Mass: "An analysis of hundreds of pages of police records shows that small town police departments are amassing enormous arsenals, use SWAT in ways that go beyond their original mission, and are sometimes unable to properly select and train officers." Sabaah Folayan, director of the important documentary "Whose Streets?" which premiered Thursday at the #sundancefilmfestival The film gives a visceral experience of what it was like for people of color in #ferguson Missouri after the killing of #michaelbrown We feel the anguish and anger of citizens who protested Brown's death at the hands of a white police officer and how their demonstrations were met with a hostile response from a heavily militarized police force. People in Ferguson had been voiceless for decades, but they managed to find their voice, propelling a movement that continues with #blacklivesmatter Find more on the documentary at Nonfictionfilm.com #policemilitarization #lawenforcement #racerelations #whosestreets #whosestreetsourstreets #film #films #filmmaking #filmmakers #movie #movies #documentary #documentaries

Principled Policing w/ Seth Stoughton
Seth Stoughton is a university professor and law scholar. He has written for numerous academic and investigative publications. I wanted to have him on the show to discuss police militarization and hopefully his thoughts on police body-worn cameras. However, our convo got deep into what good PD's do or what they should do that we never got to the reason for the interview. Don't worry I will have him back and we will eventually get to and stay on topic. In the meantime, we had a great convo and I know you will enjoy listening to it as much as we in participating in it.

Bleeding Hearts. Because that just about sums it up. . . This country seems on the brink of civil war, and our disgusting “leader” is urging police to commit further brutality. If this isn’t the time for the #25thamendment, what is? . . @billdeblasio is defending a @nypd car ramming into a crowd of protesters. @minneapolis_police_department is shooting rubber bullets at people on their own porches. Reporters and unarmed protesters are being shot with rubber bullets in the face. Cops are shooting into triage stations. And Seattle cop #JaredCampbell maced a 10yo little girl in the face. . . And all because they can’t stop murdering black people. I don’t want to hear about “good cops”. Good cops get fired and harassed into silence if they blow the whistle on police brutality. Look up the story of #AdrianSchoolcraft if you wanna see just one of countless examples of the “bad apples” overwhelming the good ones. See also: Jose Rosado of FL, Vincent Ferrara of CT, and many more. . . White folks: what will we do to stop this? Solidarity is not enough. Offering prayers or “love and light” is an insult. There is a link in my bio full of resources. Homeland security and war on drugs providing big money for the militarization of police. 3000 SWAT raids per year in the 80's has grown to 50,000 per year. Swatting (prank phone calls) endangering people's lives.

This is a war that will not end. It is only growing more deadly. In 2013 767 people were killed by police (64 a month, most of the them African Americans); in 2014 1101 people were killed by police (92 a month, most of them African Americans); in the 4 months of 2015 380 people have so far been killed police, (95 a month, most of them African Americans).
The militarization of the police has had a predictable outcome: the police are now behaving like the military would in their policing function. The rules of martial law are now (unofficially) in effect and anyone who violates those laws is The Enemy; the “insurgents”; the “terrorists” etc. and subject to summary execution. If by chance that person happens to be a Black Man, so much the better. The role of the police, their true role, has always been to protect the property of the Master Class from any defilement by rebel slaves.
Now, thanks to the grassroots organizing of the Black Lives Matter movement, people have risen up and are fighting back as best they can. In Baltimore the people are taking the fight to the oppressors. We can only hope this flame spreads like wildfire, and that the murderous police forces feel the heat in Philadelphia, New York, Memphis and Los Angeles, and all the other places they have decided to engage in ethnic cleansing.
In America, the capitalist system was founded on slavery and white supremacy. The only way to end the insanity of white supremacy is to end the American capitalist system. We need to build a new society, one based on true egalitarianism, where everyone, EVERY ONE, is actually and finally equal forever.

The Murder of John Hernandez Highlights Disturbing DoubleStandards In Regards to Charging Cops
In the span of just a few short years, the United States has seen coverage on the blight of police brutality and officer misconduct rise in prominence in both the media and the public eye. Going from an issue which in the past was largely regulated to African-American and Latino communities; and blowing up into a full-fledged national modern day battle for human and civil-rights within this…
