There are hundreds of TS2 cc hairs around but somehow I couldn’t find this particular hairstyle 🤨
It’s an edit of shoulder-lenght mesh, LeahLillith’s Azure converted for TS2 by Vidcunds (available here, recoloured by @goatskickin ). I started off with shorter alpha for that, buuut there was too much empty space underneath, so I had to fill it with something..

Included naturals and custom ombre shades - merged, or separate files. Textures are 512x512, file size is very reasonable.
* There are some alpha issues visible from the side / back. And polycount is quite high for what it is - I attempted to reduce it but I didn’t like the result
* Title pic and swatch pics show this hair combined with scalp & hairline overlay

So... how do we define MM anyways?
I'm putting this query out there, because ever since I created that list, I keep thinking of various people and going... are they Maxis Match? Or are they not?
I feel like MM is not as huge a thing in Sims 3 as it seems to be in TS2 and TS4, my personal CC collection is more maxis-mix and most of the creators I'm aware of don't actually list anywhere whether they're MM or Alpha, and a lot of them do both.
I have definitely a few criteria which disqualify from being MM:
1 - Photo-skinned items/clothing are not MM. Too different visually. 2 - Clothing made in MD (marvelous designer) is typically disqualified because it doesn't match the style OR the needed poly counts. 3 - I don't have a firm guide on what polycounts ought to be in order to be MM, but if they're high enough to cause gameplay issues, it's probably not MM. (I found a guide on Sims Wiki that gives some Polycount guidelines.) 4 - Anything overly realistic (like paintings for the wall that use RL photos and don't make them look like paintings) is not MM.
On the other hand, my criteria for saying something is MM:
1 - It was created by cloning an EA mesh and making small changes to that mesh or texture. 2 - Polycounts should be low enough to be comparable to or not much higher than EA items of similar complexity/size. However, I think hair, even from back in the day, breaks this rule. 3 - Style and visual look should be similar enough to official items that they blend well and it's hard or impossible to tell the difference.
Is this good enough for guidelines? Do the rest of you ever think about this? xD What guidelines do you use? Can lots and worlds that use CC be considered MM if the CC they use is MM?
Sidenote: That Wiki article basically says even complex hairs should be under 10k poly. And yet these days most conversions are 15k, 20k, or a lot of them are actually over 30k.

The second thing to post is this hair conversion, excuse my awful preview picture, I had a ~vision~ and it failed but it’s too late to attempt something new now. 🥲
You can find the full version in all colors here or here. Or if you just want to grab the base texture for retexturing:
Download mesh+base texture only from Simfileshare | Mega (let's be real, nobody uses my colors or textures so this is probably what most of you want here anyway 😅 )
Polycount is bit under 19500 so quite high, it has a lot of strands that explain it though.
Texture is blend of my texture and Newsea’s original

Works for child – elder as I felt it was too long for toddlers.

hmmm. that would be pretty funny. but also probably wouldn't look super great with the low-poly and low-res texture style, although i could probably give a boss jiggly pecs since they're Generally going to be larger and therefore more detailed

reading the polycount wars rants really has made me lose my faith in the sims 2 cc community. this game is older than me. it's the game, not your computer, and it's not your fault that it runs like shit or that high polycounts are slowing it down. why the hell are you acting like a baby because someone pointed out that your cc makes the game lag.
