Columnist Arttu Seppänen wrote about Käärijä in Helsingin Sanomat today, and I have thoughts (most of them disorganized).
His point is that the modern world is divisive and that it is incredible to see something bring us together. However, his point is also that Käärijä is threatening to get chained to a stereotype. He critisizes Käärijä's music for centering on drinking. Generally understandable in the Finnish context.
However, he completely missed there that the point of Cha Cha Cha was more about breaking your shell than drinking. And better yet, he took as his second example Toiset Samanlaiset. The one about making a long career, in which Käärijä's verse openly criticizes the media maddness he has been subject to, which Seppänen is now contributing to, in a way.
Yes, both are in theory drinking songs, but it is doing a disservise to them to call them just that. What I find very frustrating, is that he is simplifying Käärijä's entire discography to that: drinking songs. That he judging by the music output this year, he runs the risk of being a one trick wonder who does nothing more than sing about drinking.
Yes, Seppänen is overexaggerating to make a point, but we are talking about the one rapper who has gained notability through the diversity of his song topics when compared to other similar artists. Fucking around on the commuter train (Z), the frustration that hooks you to gambling (Yhtä Vailla), when you just have such a shit day that everything only serves to upset you (Hirttää Kiinni), trying to shed that tough guy attitude (Kovis).
I really don't think he's running the risk of only talking about drinking in his songs.
Also, Seppänen goes through some other interesting points that have nothing to do with the rest really. That Vilma Alina deserves more regognition (agreed), that Jere looks like a sirkus animal on stage (rude, but it's not like Jere hasn't said the same), and that the Finnish language won't be a problem for international success (and this pone he could have very well tied into the point of uniting people, but nope, he makes a point about standing out).
The one point of his that I really like, is the implication of Käärijä's and particularly Cha Cha Cha's quality, that made it break through. In the beginning Seppänen notes that the song divides opinions, as do most hits like it. In the end, he notes that algorithmic content and majority of what goes viral online is divisive, because that is what gets interaction. The implication is, that by being so divisive, Käärijä went viral and then became a force to unite people this year.
So yeah, like the other columns I've seen where Käärijä is used to make a point, it has some hits and some misses, which is understandable considering that the writers are rarely fans and more just a member of the general public speaking to the general public.
Really, I'm just wondering if I even understood this kolumn at all, considering how it feels its going through all sorts of hoops about current events in Finnish music.

Just learned that there's a Popeda song called Huhhahhei and it's very bojere coded 🫠
"Tuuli hiljaa kuiskailee, nimeäsi mulle
Nyt jos olis myrsky nouseva
Sydämeni synkkä biitti
Hetkisen vain sulle riitti
Mä enää en jaksaisi odottaa sinua kultasein
Mun kipunat hiipuu jo hiljalleen
Vain sinusta haaveilen
Vain sinusta haaveilen
Huhhahhei, koska sua saan
Järjen veit, tulla hakemaan?
Huhhahhei, koska sua voin
Järjen veit, pyöritellä noin?"
God-fucking-damnit 🥴 What is this multiverse of madness??? Fucking POPEDA of ALL the bands

My favorites are Metallica and The Boss simply because those are once-in-a-lifetime kinda gigs. And the Metallica double-weekend was awesome, because I went there with my big brother and that's always cool. I also went to the Iron Maiden gig with him ! Super cool shows and I love both the bands, so 😌🙏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruce is one of my all time favorite PEOPLE in the world and getting to see him live in my home country ?? Insane. And the show was incredible with the whole E-Street Band and all the people in the stadium singing along... ahhh TAKE ME BACK THERE 😭😭😭❤️❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, of course, Stam1na. They are my boys. My sweet babes. My favorite long haired guys. (+Kake with his bald head ❤️)
Their music has helped me through tough times and it's always a way for me to find comfort. The lyrics, the composition, the journeys they take you on? Insane.
AND THE BEST GOD DAMN LIVE BAND IN FINLAND!!! 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘 Last time I went to see them, I got whipped in the EYES by their guitarist's dripping wet hair for the whole set and I loved every second of it ❤️
+They're all so so hot. Like. This is my dream man. Get me a long haired, tattooed, vegan, heavy metal MAN 😭😍
The video is one of my favorite things ever, because they were hyping this song so much and then fucked up the start 😭😭😭😭😭😭
"Did we surprise you? We did!"
"We surprised even ourselves."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Käärijä is also always very fun to see and his speeches between songs are actually insane. He will just say random shit and then go on 😭 Going to Helsinki to see Joker Out alone was one of my favorite trips I've ever done and the show was AMAZING and the cherry on top was Käärijä coming out there to sing Cha Cha Cha with Bojan 🫶🫶🫶
There's so many awesome bands to see live... The Offspring was cool and I got on their instagram 💀👍 Saw HIM during their farewell run, Beast In Black sporting ninja turtles masks and synchro-headbanging, Don Johnson Big Band during a beautiful summer evening on a beach, Michael Monroe climbing 20 metre high scaffolding and singing from up there while barely holding on, Olavi Uusivirta stealing my glasses and singing one of my favorite songs with them on and I could barely see him (but it was incredible), Paperi T from front row and the bass on his set was SO FUCKING LOUD I probably got ear damage from that the most out of any gig, Children of Bodom before Alexi passed 💔, The Rasmus singing the Ghostbusters song, getting a pick from the bass player of Uriah Heep, Apocalyptica killing everyone dead with In Hall of the Mountain King, CMX doing a rare live show and it was an ethereal experience, Lenni-Kalle Taipale doing an insane jazz piano set and taking his shirt off to play Stormskärs Maja, J. Karjalainen singing his biggest hits.... SO MANY MEMORIES ❤️

Transworld Identity - Seven Worlds
Release Date: 17 Mar 2023
Tumblr media
Transworld Identity (T-ID) is a new Finnish hard rock band comprised of Mila Bosa (vocals), Mika ‘Lamppari’ Lamminsivu (guitar), Juha ‘Junnu’ Kinnunen (keyboards), Kasperi Kinnunen (bass) and Lacu Lahtinen (drums).
Their music draws inspiration from the core foundations of hard rock music, showcasing the feel-good factor that gets the adrenaline flowing. Their debut album ‘Seven Worlds’ includes their first single ‘Everything Must Burn'.
After honing her skills as frontwoman for a hard rock covers act, Bosa decided that she wanted to perform original songs and has been joined by a stellar cast of bandmates to fulfil that wish.
Lacu Lahtinen is a true showman who has spent time in both Hanoi Rocks and their vocalist Michael Monroe's solo group. He also spent almost 15 years in Popeda (one of Finland’s biggest bands) until their recent disbandment.
Mika Lamminsivu was a founder member of both Baby Green and Technical Justice and has also played with Michael Monroe as well as Dave Lindholm.
Juha Kinnunen's CV includes a long stint with Finnish rock legend Muska Babitzin, plus playing alongside Marco Hietala and Ryan Roxie.
Kasperi Kinnunen is Jahu's son and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist in his own right. He's a member of Metallileka and has participated in numerous musicals.

Hämmentävää mutta tuolla ->
Näytti ihan niinkuin olis yleisössä Mikko Rantanen. 2014?
