Good morning Tumblr the new Porter Robinson album is finished so just a warning that I am not going to shut the fuck up about this for months

Hm. So the major theme of the new Porter Robinson album feels like its fame itself, and the internal dissonance he feels over the subject. All in 200Xs soundscapes, theming, and aesthetics, which is kinda when Porter started before he blew up. Both cheerleader and knock yourself are about this.

Weirdly enough, it feels more "about Porter" than even Nurture, which was highly personal, but in a way that personally touched a lot of people.

It's incredible music either way. Definitely touches on common human emotions, and the way they've intersected with fame for him. But many people still have had toxic relationships like Cheerleader, and everyone has felt dissociation like Knock Yourself Out XD. Very interested to see if this album is more cohesive like Nurture, or discontinuous like worlds.

Wasn't actually planning on posting this, but the new Porter Robinson song today reminded me of these. Back at the beginning of March I tried designing characters based on some albums I like, taking the colors from the album covers and basing everything else on the general vibes of the music and visuals from music videos and live shows.

In the order they're posted solo, the albums are Worlds (Porter Robinson), Nurture (Porter Robinson), Adventure (Madeon), Good Faith (Madeon), [USA] (Anamanaguchi), and Exuvium (Crywolf).

hey everyone.

i’m kominion and i make electronic music. i’m not sure how to define it, as i’m notoriously bad with genres (and hashtags, & many other things). but if you like porter robinson, jai wolf, madeon, or certain vocaloid producers, i might just be your new fav. if not, i hope to talk to you anyway.

for the longest time, i tried to be sound like every other artist i idolized. porter robinson specifically, because he makes beautiful music that touches something in my soul, and honestly, i can relate 1000% to his mental health struggles. but i can only be me, and porter is someone whose work inspired me to be as open and honest as i can with my own music.

which brings me to artifact, an album that is at least 7 years in the making. what began as a sci-fi concept album first conceived while listening to porter & madeon’s shelter became an intensely personal journey through my childhood trauma, something i wasn’t even aware that i had until it was brought up in therapy and i began to process it as an adult.

and against all odds, artifact would thankfully not leave me alone. even through my adhd habits, periods of procrastination, depression, a short stint in alcoholism, a toxic relationship, my notorious inability to finish most things i start, and the death of my prior laptop. it kept calling my back.

now, i’m thankful to say that in just one day’s time, it will be here. i hope you keep an open mind and heart and give it a chance, but more than that, i hope you give yourselves a chance.

you’re worthy. you’re beautiful. your emotions, experiences, and identities are valid. know that the one thing you’ll always have to fight hardest against in this world is yourself and your own perceived limitations. you’re more than you might think you are, and most importantly, you’re enough. remember that. 💜

now for me to ask you!! what's your favourite album/artist right now :D? is there an album/artist that, even if you're not into them currently, has held a special place in ur heart/life?

That’s always a tricky question, because I have too many!

Some of my favourite albums as of late are Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson (fallen back into her music…again), Adventure by Madeon (seeing Porter Robinson later on, half-related artist) and Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt (Getting into ska as a suggestion from my dad). All of which are absolutely fantastic and I would recommend a run through each!

As for the last bit, I feel like Gorillaz holds a special place in my heart. One of the first ever bands that got me to go outside my musical boundaries and discover new genres (Hooked me onto my dad’s CD collection, actually!) I have lots of memories of listening to Clint Eastwood on long car trips :]

So that’s a couple of stuff that I’ve been into!

(PS I really liked that Butch Baby song. Tracks that have overly descriptive titles are always going to be good!)

So porter robinsons new song just GOT POSTED!!! And im. So inlove i really have nothing else to say other than i love his music and it gives me so much comfort. I listen to different albums depending on my activity but nevertheless his music has influenced so much of what i listen to now. I cant wait to draw stuff inspired by his new song this weekend,, please!!! Listen to it!!!! Goodbye ....havw an awesome day (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ ) ♡

fuck it, I'll worlds-post today. blame anthony fantano. it's wild to me that an album that came out almost a decade ago was so important to me for like 5 years, like favorite album ever status. and I don't think about it like at all anymore, and I haven't really since I got super into hyperpop in 2020... I guess that's the effect of me getting into newer sounds and the live shows ending and a new porter robinson album happening, but it still feels a little bit strange, ya know?

anyway, nurture was good, but I think I was over it by the time it came out... it took too long to actually Happen cuz of covid delays, and by the time it released, so much of my viewpoint for music had shifted and it couldn't possibly keep up... it's funny that fishmonger came out right around the same time as nurture cuz fishmonger became my next obsession album (half a year later cuz I didn't vibe with the first listen)
