now for me to ask you!! what's your favourite album/artist right now :D? is there an album/artist that, even if you're not into them currently, has held a special place in ur heart/life?
That’s always a tricky question, because I have too many!
Some of my favourite albums as of late are Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson (fallen back into her music…again), Adventure by Madeon (seeing Porter Robinson later on, half-related artist) and Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt (Getting into ska as a suggestion from my dad). All of which are absolutely fantastic and I would recommend a run through each!
As for the last bit, I feel like Gorillaz holds a special place in my heart. One of the first ever bands that got me to go outside my musical boundaries and discover new genres (Hooked me onto my dad’s CD collection, actually!) I have lots of memories of listening to Clint Eastwood on long car trips :]
So that’s a couple of stuff that I’ve been into!
(PS I really liked that Butch Baby song. Tracks that have overly descriptive titles are always going to be good!)
have had rhythm nation in my head since I saw this a few days ago. makes my heart happy. had this album way back when (and man, it's sad. when I think of this album it's the state of the world and livin in a world that sticks with me)
Collection Spotlight: Janet Jackson - Miss You Much 12" Single (1989)
I love really great "new arrival" bin finds! The Rhythm Nation album is so good, I knew I had to pick up this single off of that album. The remixes are a lot of fun, but the non-album track "You Need Me" is where it's at! I love finding singles that have non-album tracks, especially from artists and albums that I love.
This is definitely worth the pick up if you love classic pop music and/or remixes!

oh the 1989 vibes are so strong. Janet Jackson was one of the coolest pop stars from back in the day(before I was born) and I know why. She's pretty freaking badass. Anyways, this is one of the first songs that got super popular about this kind of topic, and the message is still so sound. This song inspired a generation of kids to go out and make the world better, to overcome the very recent past of the 1960's, and to push for equality in every way they could. This song was the anthem of a generation who wanted to put the past behind them, and I just think it's neat. My mom showed me this song and said, "We were all so determined to make this real. I'm so glad it's all gotten so much better so quickly." My mom smiled at me, her eyes bright. This song means a lot to her, and it means a lot to me by association. Because whenever I hear it, I just see her smile, and the pride that we are now the parts of the rhythm nation that Janet Jackson is talking about, here.
Honestly, it's really amazing.
