What do you have the male/male cables in the lab for?
a method of electron microscopy we do in the lab is called STM, or scanning tunneling microscope. STMs involve electrons quantum tunneling between an atomically sharp tip and a sample of interest. The flow of hopping electrons, ie the magnitude of the tunneling current, is later interpreted as an atomic image. This is a useful technique for understanding the surface structure and electrical properties of materials.
thats all fine and dandy but to get true atomic resolution, you need an insanely sharp tip since you want the electrons to tunnel around as small of a point as possible. Theres a number of ways to do this, however one of the methods we used for a long time was well........We'd have some very fine tungsten wire. we hook the wire up to one end of the widow maker (ie the male/male cable) that's plugged into an AC power supply, and hook the other end around a little gold hoop...and then they both get submerged into KOH, which is highly corrosive and has a ph anywhere from 10-13. we let them sit in the corrosive base for a small period of time until the base and the AC current cause the tungsten wire to etch away and eventually break off at the surface, which generates a very fine, precise tip point that can be used for imaging.
so dont worry folks, not only am i working with male/male cables that are open and supplied with an active AC current, we're also putting that current through a liquid corrosive enough to immediately burn your skin on contact.

Just gotta buy a safety one with a surge protector, overload switch + the amount of watts it can handle should be higher than your heater and it should be fine
for reference google says the watts a standard powerstrip can handle is 1800. my current heater goes up to 2000 watts and my safety powerstrip to 2400.

#haven’t seen anyone in the notes say this yet#thought it would be fine without until the plug of my last heater literally melted into the powerbox#also putting your heater on low/on a timer if you’re sleeping or leaving the room is a good precaution

they’re finally chopping down the huge pine tree in the neighbours’ front yard (they’ve been trying to get permission for, what, more than a decade? the roots are literally warping their floor) which is great and interesting but it’s day 2 of the procedure and they start at 7am and it is SO LOUD
#only got like 4 hrs of sleep yesterday and had a bad headache the whole day and i woke up with a headache today so. here we go again#personal#fun fact: if you remove a tree here you have to plant a new native tree#which is great! genuinely what a great rule!! like even if the tree you removed wasn’t native#just wish it was easier to get trees removed when they’re causing so much damage#this is also the tree that got struck by lightning that one time and made my house’s powerbox explode and we had to call the fire brigade#and is the cause of my fear of lightning. good riddance!

Summary - Date night at an abandoned theme park.
“What are we doing here?” Astrid asked.
“This is our date here,” You said.
You and Astrid are standing in front of an abandoned theme park at night.
“You said you didn't want a normal date,” You said.
“I didn't say that. But this could be fun, but nothing will work without the power” Astrid said.
“You don't have to be negative, I already thought about that” You smiled.
You kissed her cheek and she smiled. She grabbed your hand and followed you inside. You showed her where is the powerbox and you turned it on. Some of the rides did turn and others didn't turn on. You and Astrid start to walk around and you are feeling a little scared, but you don't tell her. She felt the squeeze you did on her hand but she didn't say anything about it. You and Astrid are standing in the bumper car rink, you notice the power box and turn it on.
“Let's do it” You smiled.
You and Astrid go to the rink and pick a different bumper car. You are surprised it started to move then she bumped into you, then she started to giggle. You and Astrid are just driving around and bumping into each other.
You and Astrid leave the rink and walk around again. Then she dragged you toward the games then she got behind the counter. You watched her set up the metal-rusted cans into a small pyramid.
“Throw the ball and see if you can a prize,” Astrid said.
“I don't think I would want those dirty plush,” You said.
She grabbed the balls from the ground and gave it to you.
“Just throw, Y/N” Astrid smiled
She moves to the side and she watches you throw the balls. You did knock the cans down
“What did I win? Please don't say those dirty plush” You said.
She went towards you, grabbed your shirt, and kissed you on the lips.
“I like this prize” you smiled.
“Me too” Astrid smiled.
You kiss her back and she doesn't stop smiling. You and Astrid start to walk around again, then you follow her to the carousel.
“Do you think it will work?” Astrid asked.
“I don't think so, it hasn't worked over ten years,” You said.
“I think we should find out,” Astrid said.
“Okay,” You said.
While looking around, you saw the power switch. The carousel started to move and turn around for a few seconds then it stopped.
“I’m surprised it worked for a few seconds,” You said.
“I did wish it kept working, it would have been more fun,” Astrid said.
You have your hand on the horse of the carousel. At first, you didn't notice the spider going on your hand now you noticed it, your eyes opened wide.
“Y/N don't scream,” Astrid said.
“I hate spiders” Your voice cracked.
You were about to shake your hand but she was quick enough to get the spider away from your hand. You started to shake your hand and she started to pet the spider. You moved away from her and she started to giggle.
“Y/N, pet it” Astrid smiled.
“No!” You stated.
“Y/N, don't be a baby. Pet the spider, see it won't bite” Astrid said.
She likes bugs and she knows that you hate every single type of bug. She told you before that some bugs are harmless but you don't care. She kept walking towards you but you moved away from her then she laughed.
“Astrid Deetz stop it,” You said.
“Wow, full name. Such a baby, Y/N” Astrid giggled.
You kept moving away from her and she petted the spider. She gently put the spider on the ground and she walked towards you. She did catch up to you and grabbed your hand and she is still smiling.
“You don't have to be scared anymore,” Astrid said.
“Gross you touched a spider” You teased.
“Whatever, Y/N” Astrid smiled.
You and Astrid kept exploring the amusement park. You and Astrid noticed the fireworks then you helped her climb to the roof of the funhouse. She sits next to you and she wraps her arm around your arm.
“I had fun tonight, Y/N,” Astrid said.
“Me too. First time doing this with anyone glad it was with you” You said.
“I feel the same way,” Astrid said.
You and Astrid looked at each other, then she kissed you on the lips. Then you and Astrid continued to watch the fireworks together.

It’s just a random, dark night, Sonic is off doing… whatever he does at literally midnight, and Tails is probably working on something?. Why is Sonic even out in the rain.. there’s a storm. (Average horror setting core)
As he’s tinkering away though… Suddenly, the lights to the workshop go out.
Tails has his noise canceling earmuffs on, as he always does during a storm. (And yet not when he works with loud screechy technology). The raging thunderstorm outside is nothing against the comfort of being deep in his workshop, keeping his hands and, consequently, his mind, busy.
That is, until the lights flicker off.
Tails stops his tinkering, looking up as his vision is filled with pure black. Blackouts should be common during a storm, aren't they? Lightning probably shot down a powerbox or something. Well, his powerbox, especially since he avoids using electricity from outside sources.
Tails gets up from his seat, avoiding the odd shivery feeling down his spine, and tries his best not to bump into anything while he makes his way to the light switch.

[After a quick stop at Sam's Place, Grim was munching on some cans of tuna while the Ramshackle Boys got drinks and snacks for a break later. Marcus just finished bringing out the stove & fridge which were being examined and repaired by Darius.]
Marcus (Looks at Yuu): I noticed that you cleaned up in there. Thank you.
Yuu: I had something better to do, might as well be useful for something. Where do you think we should start?
Jayden: I suggest doing the critical spots first. I'll work on the wire and piles since I'm small enough to fit in the walls.
Darius (Fixing the stove): I'll go replace the powerbox once I'm done with this. I already turned it off, that thing is ancient.
Marcus: While Jayden is working on the pipes and wires, I'll deal with the roofing. Don't wanna have rain inside our dorm.
Yuu: I can use my Unique Magic to create constructs. Need anything?
Marcus: Can you make me a ladder to the roof?
Yuu: Yes. *Does so*
Jayden (Takes a few coils of wires and some tools): I'll get started on the wiring.
Yuu: There's a hole in the wall - you should be able to get in through there.
Jayden: Thanks. *Heads inside*
[Marcus heads to the roof and starts removing the old shingles.]
Grim, glances at Jamil:
Jamil: What?
Grim: Just gonna stand there?
Jamil: Is that the pot calling the kettle black?
Grim: Funa! I-i would, but I got Hench humans to do that.
Jamil, opens his mouth just as his phone goes off: Ugh. *Pulls it out and stares at the message with an unreadable expression* I need to go, tell Jayden and the others.
Grim: You don't get to tell the great Grim what to do!
Jamil, glares at him: Just do it. *Leaves*

Regarding Yesterday
Yesterday, at around 1:30 PM [October 11th]- an employee of ours got electrocuted- rough estimate by on-site medics suggest 235 volts, from the forearm to the chest.
It occurred in Lab 2-B, as the powerbox stationed there was acting up. We've been reporting electrical disturbances for over a week now due to our attempt to adjust our energy consumption at the request of the Amity Park Eco Administration (APEA). As a result, energy surges have been unpredictable- yet we never thought it would become this much of a hazard.
Any ectoplasmic or ectobiological experiments carried out in Lab 2-B shall be transferred to a temporary testing room until further notice. Lab 2-B will be inaccessible to everybody.
We are still limiting news coverage, as the victim of the accident requests to remain anonymous while they recover. Its a miracle they're even alive.
We are still not allowing Vladco employees to speak to anyone wearing a 2-piece white suit. We will not cooperate with them. They have no business being here. Do not let them ask you questions, do not ask THEM any questions, do not even acknowledge they exist. As a US citizen you have the right to remain silent. Vladco is depending on you to stay silent.
The Bring Your Daughter to Work day is not canceled, however- the event will be carried out differently in order to prevent any future accidents.
