(HI BLUE!!!) I've never failed to notice how mistreated and/or bullied silver has been in the comics and games, so what if he went evil over a long period of time? With the words "Do better" and "get out of my sight" thrown at him (especially in archie) I have a feeling he wouldnt exactly love it tbh.

Hello! ^-^ If I'm being quite honest, that is one of the things I really did not like about the pre-reboot Archie comics. Not only is Silver a dumbass who rudely accuses people left and right with very limited and lacking information as his guide (which is still somewhat understandable since his future was in ruin and only few people in the past seemed remotely willing to help), I just... Heck, I hate how they characterised Sonic there. Sonic wouldn't do the things he did to Silver in Archie, plain and simple. He'd eventually get irked, yes, but what I appreciate about Sonic in the games is that in '06, he's quick to accept Silver's change of heart and sees that he only means well for the future, and in Rivals he remains his chipper self most of the time even when Silver is being blunt. And they make up, and Silver clearly respects Sonic at the end of both games! I cannot see either of those Sonics drag Silver throughout an entire town by his quills to throw him head-first into a hospital bed. Nor would Sonic from the games tell Silver to fuck off in such a manner. And that whole thing with Lanolin in IDW has left quite a sour taste in my mouth too, not gonna lie. If there is anyone who needs to 'do better' it is her, with the complete life-threatening failure of a first mission concluded under her leadership and her general bossy personality she is aware of yet makes no improvements on to change for the better. So yeah, Silver is indeed the no-respect guy from both comics. It's just not fun to see such things happen to my favourite character, especially because the other characters are either being wildly OOC assholes or in-character assholes to facilitate it. But that was a bit of a rant, apologies.

Still, I do not think Silver would turn outright evil. I can see him become more withdrawn and even more short-tempered, with the decision that if people are so unwilling to help him he'll just have to go completely solo and take matters into his own hands quickly following. And that would actually cause a lot more trouble for the heroes, because Silver has mostly no qualms against murder, is highly OP so very difficult to defeat in a fight where he is giving his all, is more deceivable than most others and thus might be entirely on the wrong path despite he himself believing he is doing the right thing, etcetera. His intentions would still be heroic, but his actions would be more anti-hero- or even villainous-like. Which is unfortunate, because with only one or two good conversations where he is taken seriously and maybe some brawls to knock some sense into him, none of it would have been necessary in the first place. But yes, I can imagine he is hurt and bothered by how he gets brushed off by the heroes, and that is a prime situation for him to go do things by himself if no-one takes him seriously. And that could cause more trouble than it is worth... Hmm, I cannot see someone like Archie!Sonic apologise for not listening and taking Silver seriously, but who knows what we'll get in IDW when the whole plotline with Duo/Mimic is resolved. We'll only be sure once the issues have been released, for better or for worse.

The ONLY Echidna that Knuckles isn't weary of and is actually friendly towards (other than Tikal; but that is a given) is Shade. He might be willing to give other members of the Nocturnus a second chance, but only if Shade insists or supports the decision...he trust her to know if they deserve a chance or not.

Wait, Shadow and the rest of Team Dark worked for G.U.N? That feels really weird given his backstory, as well as Rouge's distaste for the law...

yeah lol, it's a bit unclear because they only work for GUN in some canon. rouge has always been an agent of sorts, starting in SA2 where she worked as an undercover agent for the president. however, the president and GUN are treated as two separate entities in that game, and rouge doesn't seem to have any connection to GUN.

the first time it's mentioned that team dark works alongside GUN is Sonic 06, where rouge and shadow are explicitly stated to be working as GUN agents. rouge is in communication with them pretty consistently throughout the game, and shadow's story begins with him on an official GUN mission to find rouge and the scepter of darkness. omega's role with GUN in 06 is a bit unclear - as far as i can tell, it's never explicitly stated within the game whether omega works for GUN or not? idk. if anyone has any sources stating otherwise lmk

of course, given that 06's timeline is basically completely erased from existence once the game's story ends, it's entirely possible that team dark's involvement with GUN starts and ends within the 06 timeline. future games never bring it up as far as i can remember... which brings us to the archie comics (as it always does).

the archie comics take 06's concept of team dark GUN agents and REALLY runs with it. all three members seem to work for GUN full time, where they operate under commander tower (aka the commander from SHtH 2005) and work alongside hope kintobor (genius teen related to the robotniks. it's complicated. she's also only there pre-reboot).

pre-reboot archie doesn't dive deep into why each member decided to join GUN. shadow starts working for them soon after he regains all of his memories and seems to work alongside them to ensure the general safety of the world, rouge is likely there for a paycheck (and any missions that involve chaos emeralds and various gems), and omega is. complicated. technically archie omega (pre-reboot) is a combination of e-123 omega and e-102 gamma (quite literally. like both of their personalities in one robot) and he was just kinda brought to work at GUN after shadow found him in the middle of a forest. don't worry about it

GUN mostly serves as a vessel for team dark to be sent on missions and adventures throughout the various archie sonic stories, and team dark is able to work alongside them without much conflict. that is, until the reboot.

after the super genesis wave (aka the reboot), team dark's first mission with gun is to destroy the black comet 2 and the black arms forces on it. they're not alone this time - they have a number of other GUN soldiers with them, and here we start to see the cracks between GUN and team dark form. given that they're fighting the black arms and shadow is half black arms, some of the GUN soldiers very clearly Do Not Like Shadow and Do Not Trust Him.

but what really matters here is what commander tower does during this arc - before the mission, he asks rouge and omega to neutralize shadow if he falls under the influence of the black arms.

while the reboot never had enough time to dig much deeper into the gray morality of GUN, it's very clearly a consistent trait of the organization. it's most apparent in the arc i just talked about, but future arcs hint at some shady stuff happening when they can. for example, GUN seems to have snively robotnik (aka eggman's evil nephew) on staff as a scientist, and they very clearly show us (in this panel i think is honestly kinda hilarious) that snively is Up To Some Evil Shenanigans.

with all that in mind, i can finally give my opinions on team dark as GUN agents. i completely agree with the sentiment you expressed in your ask - shadow working for GUN completely conflicts with his past, his traumas, and his characterization within most of the games. despite shadow being a "for the greater good" sort of person, i don't think he would ever trust GUN enough to work alongside them. and i think the same goes for rouge and omega, though to a lesser degree. while i think both of them would find it beneficial to work alongside GUN in some cases, ultimately they're both entirely self-driven and wouldn't see much of a reason to work for GUN full time. and because of this, i generally think it was probably for the best that the modern version of team dark just kinda dropped the GUN agent narrative. it puts less limitations on their characters, and the stories don't have to make every team dark related event about GUN.

and yet... i really like the stuff that post-reboot archie had going on. i love the inside look at GUN, and i love seeing how much pressure and strain they put on team dark. because ultimately, GUN is an antagonistic force that a group of heroes are working for. the military is a consistent obstacle in sonic stories, and to see how they impact the characters they've hurt the most from the inside of their organization is so interesting to me. GUN is doing the same thing that all of team dark's previous foes have tried to do to them - they're using team dark as weapons and turning them against each other. maybe the members of team dark wouldn't want to work for GUN, but GUN would do ANYTHING to keep the three of them around because all three of them are liabilities if they're let loose into the world with no supervision. GUN is keeping their enemies close and using them as weapons. and i fuckin love that

so while i'm ultimately glad that team dark is no longer associated with GUN, i would have loved to see a version of the narrative exploring why they left. they would all know GUN was just using them, but what would have been the final straw? did they resign peacefully? are they all on the run as rogue agents? i dunno! but i wish it could be explored a little, even if it wasn't canon or whatever. wghelp that's all i got for this one good night tristate area

me being nerd about my au !! finally posting this lmao

SO it obviously takes place in pre-genesis wave continuity. obv the comics were kinda falling apart towards the end of the mecha sally arc (lawsuit hell etc etc) so i'm not the biggggest on how they were wrapping up that arc. this is more or less a big ol rewrite.

i think i would want the mecha sally arc to end with a big ol' super sonic battle... sal is an important character and i think the mecha arc deserves to go out with a big bang! (<- says the biased sally fan) so, i imagine eggman is pushing mecha sally to her absolute breaking point. he's got her supercharged on rings, but in a state that she just physically cannot keep up. this would give us some really cool visuals to work with; her robotic body just literally fraying and falling apart as she and sonic are fighting B). as much as he wants to, sonic can't afford to pull his punches. so the audience gets a really satisfying, no holding back fight. in his regular state, sal's really giving him a run for his money. it's looking like she's got him, despite being on the brink of just falling apart herself... but at the last second, he goes super! (someone airdrops him the chaos emeralds or something. work with me here) he's able to use his powers to subdue mecha sally/save the day etc.

after being returned to her organic form, sal takes everything really hard (yay drama!). she knows, logically, that she wasn't in control of her actions; she doesn't blame herself, per say, for her actions which she was roboticized. but being forced to watch herself hurt her friends against her will was still really traumatic nonetheless. additionally, she has to get used to living with her physical changes after being "upgraded" too (pardon the old ass art). it took her a bit of time to get used to the feeling of channelling ring energy, and also a bit of time to get the hang of summoning her ring blades at all.

she really struggles to look her friends in the eye afterwards. after things have returned to the status quo, she runs off for a bit herself and ends up staying with fiona, who, in this au, has broken off from scourge and the destrutix and minds her own business as an anti-hero/chaotic neutral character. the two have a rocky past, but have a really particular/peculiar bond. sal knows that she can turn to fiona without ever worrying about being judged for her actions.

after taking some time to recuperate and manage her emotional state, sal returns to mobotropolis to finally make amends with/reconnect with her old friends. she resolves to master her ring blades and to improve her fighting skills. her fighting style is super intense, very all-or-nothing. she gives it her all until she literally can't fight anymore. this kind of lends itself to her ring energy/power blades. she needs a constant supply of pure (ring) energy to keep them summoned, which she must have preemptively on hand, so any fights she gets into need to be resolved quickly.

sonic's the one who takes charge of her training. he's definitely one of the most powerful freedom fighters, but he's also the one she trusts the most. he's more than happy to help her (and just to have her back, frankly), but sometimes sparring with her can be a lot. especially when it reminds him so much of fighting her in her mechanized state.

sally resolves to herself that she'll never be captured and used as a pawn ever again. never again.

This does get me thinking, what if instead of going to Knothole in pre-Super Genesis Wave of Archie what if Amy went to the Dragon Kingdom and was raised by any of the 4 clans, and how would each of the clans raise her and how would she be?"

IAN FLYNN: This is, number one, assuming that any of them would actually take her in, 'cause they were very isolationist in their own rights, but we'll ignore that for the sake of the question. KYLE: Mhm. IAN: Um, if she were to go into... let's say she got picked up by the Yagyu, became like, the right hand to the Bride of Rich Nights. Uh, number one, Iron King wouldn't have offed the Bride, that's for sure. And, I don't know, I could kinda see her becoming their greatest muscle in the group, like... the living embodiment of 'smash and grab.' This is assuming that the hammer comes with her, that it's like, a mystically-tied item, and uh... 'cause I think that's how we were going in pre-reboot, if I remember correctly. So, you know, the Yagyu thieves are out there pillaging the land, and if anybody tries to actually stop them, she comes in and stops them. Uh, Raiju Clan? Well, they're already war-like, so now you've got Amy with potentially lightning-channeled hammer in addition to everything else? KYLE: [chuckles] That sounds awesome. IAN: Now maybe her inherent compassion means that she doesn't finish off her opponents. She's just content with defeating them, but she is schooled in the ways of making lots of pain, lots of- really darn fast. Uh, the Gossamer Clan? [sigh] That's almost like saying 'Amy becomes a nun.' KYLE: [snorts] IAN: Y'know? Or... or she goes out into the world, following the Web of Fate, to ensure things play out a certain way. And maybe her fortune cards are a way of interpreting that, or there's a different version of them. Something that's more tied to the Web of Fate. Maybe instead of fortune cards, she does, like, uh... oh, what is it called when you do, like, the strings between your fingers to make Cat's Cradle and stuff? Like, very quick weavings to fortune-tell. That might be kind of a fun twist on things. Uh, and then for the Shinobi Clan, that would be worth it just for the long con. She's there in the narrative as she always was. You don't think it's any different, you think this is just standard Amy, but surprise! She's been Constant Vigil's sleeper agent in the Freedom Fighters this whole time! KYLE: [laughs] Oh no! IAN: The fangirling over- that fangirling over Sonic? That was just to keep tabs on him! Why is she paying so much attention to Sonic? "Oh, she's a fangirl. Don't worry about it." No, ninja spy! KYLE: [laughs] Wow! You've explained everything, Ian! Perfect. You've solved it. In hindsight, the super genesis wave was pointless

It was supposed to reset the archie universe/timeline and basically be a reboot, but the reader still needed to have knowledge of past storylines to understand what's happening after Sonic "reverses" the waves effect

It was more of an odd timeskip than an actual reset

Regardless of all that, I will forever laugh at the final moment of all things related to archie sonic is the universe being destroyed while that version of Sonic is powerless to do anything about it.

Yeah the Archie "reboot" was literally the worst of both worlds. It's actually insane just how badly it was executed. It should be studied lol. Like, sheer fact they DIDN'T BOTHER TO START OVER FROM ISSUE #1 ALONE makes it completely pointless to the point that you can't fathom why they even bothered. But then of course they DIDN'T actually reset anything, they just shuffled around the history that already had existed? It would have served no other purpose besides pissing off existing readers, while doing absolutely nothing to attract any new ones.

I legitimately can't imagine why they didn't just do a PROPER reboot and start over fresh from scratch, reintroduce all the characters with a new universe and storyline. The existing fans who would have been upset by everything they'd been invested in getting thrown in the trash might have left sure, but it's not like the "solution" they went with was any better. Frankly I haven't heard of a single person who was a fan of pre reboot Archie who was happy with things after the reboot. And if they were gonna be unhappy no matter what, you might as well have taken advantage of the only upside reboots have and capitalize on attracting a fresh new audience. Instead, everyone who already wasn't reading Archie would have just looked at the new comic, saw it was "issue #252" and then just kept on walking just like every other week.

Absolute boneheaded insanity. It's a wonder it lasted as long as it did after that.
