Spoilers for Hirogaru Sky's Christmas episode. Time to share my thoughts.
Tumblr media
So first off it's a very wholesome episode, definitely a pallet cleanser from Otona's finale. I really enjoyed it like always. Seeing each character get a chance to see their families was touching although saddening that Mashiro and Ageha couldn't see theirs in person.
Everyone moved into the main city of Skyland, Precure at the ready to defend them from Empress Undergu. It was nice seeing Tsubasa be in charge of the barrier and I'm assuming this is a part of his new job as sage using the mirror pad in this way?
To lift the spirits of the people the Precure do what they do best, hold a Christmas (Or Strichmas as it is called in Skyland) party. It was fun watching the antics and the interactions with other characters as they set this up. I like Sora's friendly rivalry with Beryberie although I wish we got to see more of it throughout the season.
Transforming was so unnecessary in this episode, there were no Ranborgs to fight so instead they used their stock animation to fight tornadoes that were trying to hurt Tasan (Skyland's version of Santa). Ageha also used her move once to make it snow which I think was fine. I understand wanting to use the stock animation though.
Sora and Mashiro are the cutest, I already posted the screenshots I took but here they are again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are the best ship this season totally rooting for them. Basically, Sora's hero book was on its last page so Mashiro got her a new one but to her surprise, Sora had bought her the same gift. After this scene in the last second, something happened. Elle grew? Or was it Elleelain? It was so fast and no explanation will be given until next week.
So if the rumors are correct and we have 50 episodes this season that means like 4 more...? I'm not ready to say goodbye yet, I love everyone in this cast so much! I'm having a lot of fun making these little recap/thoughts type of thing so definitely will do them for Wonderful and Mahoutsukai 2 as well.

you're making me contemplate if I should get into Monogatari cause I like the art how dare you
PLEASEEEEE!!!!! YESSSS!!!!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT FOR EVERYONE ON EARTH!!!!
Tumblr media
but actually this is like my DREAM of people (especially blogs im a big fan of!) trying out Monogatari because my posts 😭🙏 I'm biased so of course I'm going to say it's worth it! But even if just for the anime's art direction I think it really is special. Though it's For sure a series where I think the cast and character writing really shines as well.

MahoPre rewatch project has now reached final 10 episodes. It's been such a fun rewatch project as I honestly had forgotten so much about it. Which is nice, because I kinda rekindled my love towards the season ❤️ Gosh, I love Mirai, Liko and Haa-chan so much.

Manatsu!
Tropical Rouge was the first Precure show I watched weekly, and it was such a fun ride, and its characters are a big reason for my fondness for that show!

~My Thoughts on Wonderful Precure: Episodes 21-25~
~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~
This will be updated weekly, so be sure to come back if you want to see my thoughts on new episodes!
Tumblr media
~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~
Episode 21 - Mayu and Yuki’s School Life:
I loved this episode! It was so funny!
As expected, Yuki’s good at pretty much everything in school. I wonder if there’s gonna be anything she’s not good at. Maybe there’ll be an episode surrounding that.
I just about died when she tried squeezing into Mayu’s chair, and then tried getting that kid to move out of his, so she could sit next to her. She clearly doesn’t get how assigned seats work. But I guess she’s content enough with having to sit behind Mayu instead.
The whole embroidery thing was super cute. I love how Mayu’s kind of teaching Komugi and Iroha how to do it. Also, I just wanna brag that I knew exactly what the girls were trying to embroider, even though it looked terrible😌.
As a little critique, I thought the whole “backstory” about Mayu and her old friend was really random. It just came out of nowhere, with almost no foreshadowing whatsoever. Yuki treated it like some big, serious thing, but I feel like it’s probably not gonna be mentioned again.
Next, I just wanna take a moment to gush over the “Nyanderful Precure” part. I was really hoping that would happen! I wonder what Satoru and Daifuku would say when if they become Pretty Cures. I don’t know what sound rabbits make in Japan.
I like how the first thing Cure Nyammy does with a Kirarin Animal’s power, is turning Cure Wonderful into a tire. Just thought that was funny. She didn’t bother turning herself into one. Nope, just Komugi.
We also got a new animation for Lillian and Nyammy for calling the animals home. Though, I wonder if they’re using Wonderful and Friendy’s suitcase, or if they got their own and we didn’t see.
Overall, I loved this episode! I can’t wait for the next one!
Episode 22 - Wonderful Go!:
This episode wasn’t my favorite. I’m not a fan of sports/athletics episodes. But it was still alright. I mean, it was super cute. So it couldn’t be awful.
I was a bit confused on how Komugi didn’t understand Iroha’s first commands, because she understands human language perfectly. And she usually obeys every other time. But I guess it was just for the sake of the plot.
It was pretty cool how in sync Wonderful and Friendy were during battle. The platforms were a nice idea too. And it’s great how even though this episode was focused on them, Nyammy and Lillian still got plenty of screen time. They even did the finishing attack.
Lastly, I just wanna express how excited I am for next week’s episode! The festival episodes are always some of my favorites. I love seeing all the pretty yukata designs, and the cute hairstyles! Komugi looked absolutely precious in the preview, and Yuki looked so beautiful!
Episode 23 - Making Wishes, Wao~~~~~n:
I always love the festival episodes. They’re always so fun! And this one was no exception!
Everyone’s outfits were so cute! Komugi’s was definitely my favorite. Precure always puts so much care into designing yukatas for their characters. Well… except for Satoru, I guess. His was so plain.
Mayu’s mom finding out that Yuki can turn human was disappointingly underwhelming. I was expecting her to be overjoyed, but she was so casual about it. But oh well, at least she accepts her.
We also got some foreshadowing to Daifuku becoming a Cure(hopefully)! According to Yuki, he’s no ordinary rabbit! And of course, we also got some cute little crush moments from Satoru. The part where he helped Iroha with her sandals was so sweet!
Also, all the Kirarin Animals are back! But it seems something else is coming…
I hope we get some real villains soon! Maybe then, the Pretty Cure will actually start fighting!
Lastly, I gotta talk about the new ending.
It was so good!
I can’t decide if I like this one better, or the first one. The song is just so cute and upbeat! And it sounds so unique compared to all the others! It is a bit sad that they got rid of the expensive models though..
I wonder how they’ll add the midseasons to it. Maybe, we’ll get a whole new song entirely? Though that’s probably just wishful thinking…
Episode 24 - A Very Strange Egg:
This episode was alright. Not my favorite, but it was good!
First thing I wanna get out of the way is that I had no idea Niko-sama was a girl. I always thought of her as a boy haha. Not that it matters, but I was just shocked for a second.
I’m very curious as to what Niko-sama will look like. Judging by the horn on the egg, it’s clear she’ll be at least a bit unicorn-like. But Mey-Mey said that there are no other animals like her, so she might be completely unique. Although, unicorns don’t exist, so she might just be one. But at the same time, horses are almost identical. Hmm.
I was super excited that the egg only lit up once everyone was touching it, including Satoru and Daifuku! Hopefully this is a sign of them becoming Cures! Also, it’s super weird how the egg keeps teleporting to Iroha’s house. I wonder why it does that…
Next, I’m gonna mention the new version of the ending! We got a Nyammy and Lillian duet! I really like it. It’s very sassy and cool!
I’m not super excited for the next episode. It’s clearly a beach filler episode, which I’m not a fan of. But I do have to say this: Komugi’s swimsuit is adorable! I want it for myself!
Episode 25 - Summer! Beach! Homework!:
Just as I suspected, this episode was just filler. But it was still alright.
I really liked the design of the girls’ swimsuits! I want to own all of them! Well… except for Satoru’s. Did the designers even try with his outfits?
I surprisingly learned quite a bit about sea turtles. I didn’t know that the temperature could determine the gender! Thanks, Satoru!
I found it pretty odd how the focus and drama all of a sudden shifted to Mayu and Yuki during battle. It just felt really random. The drama was really laid on thick too. It really wasn’t all that necessary.
All in all, this episode was fine. But I hope the next one will be better.

PRECURE POLL!!! OPEN YOUR HEARTS FOR THE SECOND ROUND OF THE BATTLE FIGHT!
Futari Wa Precure / The Two Of Us Are Pretty Cure! (2004-2005)
youtube
Classic. Gay. One of the big recommendations, equivalent to Kuuga, the one the tokusatsu server I'm in insisted upon as the best start and one of the best shows. The big yuri season with the big famous opposites-attract two-sides-of-the-same-coin pairing, it also started Precure's whole glorious bit of being magical girls who fight with full hand to hand combat and stick to walls like spiderman. Cards will never stop haunting me; the henshin devices are flip phones that accept swipeable cards, and also contain cellphone greachers.
Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure (2019-2020)
youtube
Recommended by my friend, this precure is a space road trip (something i fucking love so much) with alien precures, musical transformations, a Lisa Frank aesthetic, and a mix of scifi elements in with the magical girl standard that defines Pretty Cure! Space magical girls, what's better than that? The other themes are astrology and imagination, potentially toqger-style, and the henshin device is a colored pen.
Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! / Witchy Pretty Cure! (2016-2017)
youtube
Recommended to me by the tokusatsu server (though they insisted on Futari Wa) as a good starter precure, Mahoutsukai Precure is about two witches and a Hobbesian teddy bear (that is also a henshin device!) and a fairy fighting dark magicians and hopping between a mundane world and a magical world. Also the opening seems to be referencing the same song meter as Catarina Claes's anime??? What's the reference. Hm.
Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure (2020-2021)
youtube
My friend's second recommendation, this one has excellent character dynamics and a consisently increasing scale of quality plus a funny mermaid and a mascot that is literally just a normal seal. It seems to have more commitment to the Makeup Bit:tm: than other precures, its core theme is motivation, and the henshin device is a mirror compact.
Wanderful Pretty Cure! (Now)
youtube
It’s the currently airing installment!!!! This would have backlog at the start but essentially become a weekly liveblog. What if a dog could b a magical girl. An actual dog. And several other animals and humans. The core theme is being friends with animals and with other people, and the henshin device is a mirror compact.

Small Hirogaru spoilers just my scrambled thoughts below. Image to hide them better.
Tumblr media
I loved this week's Hirogaru Sky!!! The action was so good and that Cure Noble VS Emperor Undergu fight, she slayed.
They all slayed, well except for Ageha and Tsubasa who barely appeared but otherwise. The expressions of the characters were super good it really made me feel for all of their sides.
Curious what happened between Undergu and Skyland making peace and the present day. What will happen next? Who knows! I'm excited for the finale although we have a mandatory Christmas episode first, which is fine ig.
Only 3 more episodes to go, wish we had more of the villain's backstories shown throughout the season rather then just at the end but that's a minor issue still love the show and every second I'm watching it.

Soaring Sky Precure and All Stars F Thoughts
The end of January is always a bittersweet time to be a Precure fan as the currently airing series comes to a close and the next series begins the following week at the first of February. I have been watching Precure on a weekly basis for 6 years ever since Hugtto in 2018 and I watched the entire backlog of episodes over roughly 2 years. I wanted to write a post about why All Stars F and Soaring Sky Precure were the perfect anniversary projects. The staple of any Precure milestone year is a new All Stars movie. They used to be yearly until there were simply too many characters to sustain the purpose of the format so now its saved for special occasions. I'll start by saying All Stars F was phenomenal! The action has never looked better and unlike Memories, it was almost completely in 2D. It's hard to miss when they distill the franchise into its purest form of magical girls beating monsters. The main point I want to focus on is the film's antagonist Cure Supreme.
Tumblr media
(note the fake logo, Supreme is merely going through the motions) They are an unworldly existence who completely destroyed all the cures. Kind of like an end of series boss character. Yet on a whim Supreme wanted to learn more about where a Precure's strength comes from such as why did they try so hard. Supreme recreated earth, gave themselves a mascot, a ton of monsters to defeat including a boss figure, all to essentially live as the main character of a Precure series. It's a very cynical way of looking at the franchise with its repeatable formula. She sees all the parts as simply something they have. In the climax of the film Supreme is faced with Precure being more than the sum of its parts. They see the hardships, trials, moments of happiness, and the moments of sadness that have occurred in the history of the franchise. A Precure is someone who puts their best foot forward and looks to make a better tomorrow regardless of any obstacles. By splitting part of their power into a mascot and trying to imitate being a cure, Supreme has already taken the first step of their redemption story. In the end, All Stars F uses Supreme to show the audience why Precure is such a long lasting franchise. It might be a repeatable formula, it might appear silly, but ultimately what defines a Precure is someone giving it all their to improve themselves. That is something that can resonate and inspires an audience of all ages which even Supreme is not immune from. The film concludes with Supreme and they're mascot Puka realizing that perhaps together there is more to life when they share experiences.
Tumblr media
(Manatsu grinning with happiness as her first encounter with Laura replays before their eyes. You can feel how proud she is of having a friend like Laura. It completely changed the trajectory of her life for the better) If All Stars F is a refresher of Precure's overarching themes, then Soaring Sky Precure is a throwback to the duo dynamic of the early days with a theme of Heroes. We have the central duo of Sora and Mashiro. Sora is an outsider and the team lead. She befriends Mashiro, the human character, who is a kind person who doesn't always have the best self confidence. Together they teach other how to exert themselves more. Both Mashiro and Sora come to learn how acts of kindness come in many forms. Similarly, Tsubasa (first male cure, aspiring knight) and Ageha (adult, nursery school teacher) form a secondary duo. They're mostly stuck in supporting roles for most of the series, but both show anyone can embody the qualities of a Precure in their life. Super heroes don't always wear fleshly capes after all. Elle is a somewhat of a throwback to Luminous as a supernatural entity in the group. She's mostly the insert character for Precure's young target demographic. By becoming Cure Noble it adds to the idea of people in supporting roles being heroes in their own right. Even if they are fallen nobility. Precure's don't let their past define them. This brings us to the main antagonist Kaiserin. If Sora finds positivity from those around her, then Kaiserin is her foil as someone who has a pure heart but became tainted by negative surrounding circumstances. Kaiserin had been told over and over that strength is everything. These ideals were forced upon her through fabricated events. At the climax with Kaiserin wavering, the dark power went into Sky because surely a hero with strong convictions would desire the ultimate power at all costs to save a friend. But turns out Sora's bond with Mashiro is even stronger than that. Power for powers sake can only go so far and Mashiro never stopped believing in Sora. They both push each other to new heights that senseless strength could never obtain. Kasarin sees this and rejects the power. Giving in to those desires has only stunted her ability to cultivate relationships. She can now get a second chance with her loyal followers now seeking to redeem themselves as well.
Tumblr media
The franchise began as "Futari wa Precure" (We are Precure) for a reason. It's about how people can connect and push each other. Whether its someone from another world and a human on earth, an alien being destructive powers, or.... a dog and her pet owner? Sometimes the larger group dynamic and gimmick is more important in modern precures, but going back to those roots from Futari wa Precure every once in awhile is a good reminder of how it runs through every installment to this day. Tldr - I'm thinking way to hard about a children's television series whose main goal is selling toys. We're lucky it consistently has such strong character writing. I really like when the lead can shout their dream at every turn and grows to embody that ideal. We got spoiled by having a full 50 episode series this year. The power of 4 cour is amazing. Late night anime could only dream of having that much time.
