Prince Yuki Fan Club hated Tohru because of how close she was to him.
But if they knew that Yuki saw Honda as a mother figure, they would be really nice to her to gain her approval.

<=========>
The more you hung around Kyo, the more Yuki got jealous. Yuki didn't realize he was jealous until that jealously he held bubbled over and he lashed out.
It happened at Shigure's house when you came over to hang out with Tohru but you were really there to see Kyo. Don't get me wrong, you liked Tohru but Kyo was interesting to you because you knew everything about Tohru.
So, you wanted to get know Kyo, Yuki on the other hand, you tried to keep your distance and avoid him at school. The only reason being because of the Prince Yuki FanClub, they scared you to the point that you kept your distance for the so-called Prince of the School. You didn't want to get harassed.
But that didn't mean you disliked Yuki, you actually had a small crush on the Soma boy. You didn't really know what drawn you to Yuki but you kept you feelings for Yuki under wraps because of his crazed fan club.
"Hello, Tohru!" You greeted her at the door.
"Oh! Y/n! Hello, come on in." Tohru smiled at you letting you through the door.
"Are Kyo and Yuki here?" You asked taking off you shoes.
"Uh, yeah, Kyo's here. But, I don't know where Soma is." Tohru said.
You frowned a bit at Tohru's answer as you followed her to the living room, where Shigure and Kyo sat.
"Hello, Shigure, Kyo." You greeted the two Somas.
Both Somas turned to face the girl, Shigure smiled at her as Kyo closed his eyes turning away with a light pink blush as his face.
"Hello there, Y/n. A pleasure seeing you as always." Shigure greeted.
You laughed at the novelist. "Hello to you too Shigure." You said.
"Are you here to see our precious Kyo?" Shigure teased as Kyo blushed and flinched at his statement.
"No, I'm not just here to see Kyo. I'm here to see Yuki and Tohru," You said. "We're all friends here, right?"
"Yeah, exactly!" Tohru exclaimed cheerfully.
"Well, I'm sorry, but Yuki went out for a bit. But, he'll be back soon too." Shigure said.
"Awww~! That's too bad, I never get to talk to Yuki." You whined out.
Kyo clicked his tongue in annoyance, but didn't saying anything just looked away.
"Mh? You want to say something, Kyo?" You asked the carrot top.
"No." He answered quickly.
You raised an eyebrow and tilted your head to the side.
"Oh! Miss l/n, hello." Yuki's voice startled you as you jumped and turned around seeing Yuki behind you.
"Oh! Soma, welcome back." Tohru greeted the boy.
"Y-Yeah, hey, Yuki." You stumbled out, wiping you sweat hands on the sides of your pants.
Yuki smiled at you and smiled nervously back as you went over to sit next to Kyo as Tohru said she was going make tea. You didn't even see Yuki give Kyo a dirty look, Shigure smirked at this, knowing how jealous Yuki could get when it came to you.
Yuki sat down at the other side of the table as you teased Kyo, laughing as he yelled at you while Yuki kept silent glance up at the two every now and then. You and Kyo stood up as two of you argued about something, you were smiling and laughing as Kyo growled yet had a small ghost of smile on his lips.
Yuki felt jealously bubble a bit in the pit of his stomach that when he got up from his spot and striked Kyo in the face sending him into the paper door and into the yard. Yuki's eyes shot wide as he left the room.
"Oh, Yuki. Don't know how control those emotions you have." Shigure commented.
"What do you mean?" Tohru asked Shigure, who smirked.
You frowned as you went after him. "Shigure, Yuki's room is upstairs, yeah?" You asked.
Shigure nodded as you made your way upstairs to hunt for Yuki. You didn't find Yuki in his room, you found him sitting in the hall with his arms resting on his knees with his head down.
"Yuki?" He flinched hearing you call his name.
"I'm sorry," Yuki mumbled. "I wish you didn't see that side of me." He said.
"Why'd you do that to Kyo?" You asked him.
Yuki looked up at you. "I didn't like that you are always with that Stupid Cat."
Your eyes widened as your face flushed a pink hue. "Yuki? Are you jealous of Kyo?" You asked curiously.
Yuki looked up at you with a smirk on his lips. "Maybe I am." He said as he stood up and pinned you against the wall.
"Y-Yuki." You blushed an even deep color. This was super out of character for him and you surprisingly liked it.
"Miss l/n, I just want you to know that I have feelings for you, I know that we don't talk often but seeing your smile everyday makes my heart pound. Your so kind to everyone and that's why I fell for you." Yuki said.
Your heart was pounding. Was he serious? Did he truly have feelings for you?
"Yuki, I... I have feelings for you too, I really wanted to get to know you but it's so hard to get close to you, I know I'm already one of Tohru's friends but we were all in different classes. And those girls from your so-called fan club scared." You sighed out.
Yuki chuckled, petting your hair. "You'll be just fine. You worry too much." He said.
"I guess," You chuckled with a smile. "I guess I do."
"Miss l/n?" He asked.
"Huh?" You answered him.
“Can I... can I kiss you?" Yuki asked as a pink tint appeared across his cheeks.
You nodded as Yuki leaned in places his lips against yours. As he pulled away, you placed a hand on his cheek.
"And please Yuki," You said to him. "Call me Y/n."
His face flushed a deep red. "Of course, Y-Y/n."

A Prince v. A God
Tumblr media
Outside of the Sohma Estate in the real world amongst his peers, Yuki, given his mannerisms and attractiveness was “blessed” with the title of “Prince Yuki” by his fan club. This large group of girls infatuated with him dedicated themselves to loving, protecting and praising him.
The gag is that what they were protecting was only a surface level self-imposed ideal image of him.
Putting him on a pedestal, they never even tried to understand him or truly appreciate the person he was.
Each instance of praise and idolization from them only hurt, pushing him further and further into himself. Technically more free getting out of the Estate, Yuki still felt alone. One form of isolation for another.
Then take look at Akito.
Tumblr media
Raised to be God of the Zodiac, the one its members were supposed to revere. Akito thought that was something they wanted, but the way they went about it resulted in isolating themselves and being more lonely, clinging onto the belief and promise of a thousand year old bond they would be beloved by all until the end of time. Akito made this their entire identity, scared that without it, she was nothing.
It wasn't until everything came to a head did she realize some things hurt too much to hold onto, eventually there is no other option but to let go.
It was scary for Yuki and Akito, to let go of the images people have thought of them, for them, but it opened up the opportunity to break them down and begin the journey of self discovery.

let's stay together! (2)
time for part two!! today we're starting the zodiac :)
yuki sohma is by far one of my favorite characters in this series. not because of what was, but what could have been.
yuki grew up an excluded child, not only because of his illness but because of his mother giving most control to akito once he hit a certain age. the constant verbal and physical abuse from akito where she would lock him in a dark room for days on end forced yuki into a quiet shell. this is what gave yuki his “soft” demeanor that he uses with his prince front.
although heading up the zodiac, yuki does not actually fit into the characteristics of the rat. people born under the rat are ambitious, charming, talkative, and serious to name a few traits. yuki CAN fit these when he puts up his prince front. for a large chunk of his life yuki avoided friends and contact, and would only interact with people IF THEY INTERACTED WITH HIM FIRST. this is a huge thing to note his front and “kindness” were fake. (this is mainly going off of how yuki perceives himself, i don't think that yuki's kindness is fake.)
things genuinely take a turn for the better in his life once tohru enters. for a while, his front is still there, which i partially think was done because yuki was unsure how to establish himself as either a friend or love interest. i think a major part of this is yuki wanting to present himself as a man and act upon the fact that tohru is a pretty girl his age and it "only makes sense" for him to be attracted to her/want a relationship with her. (of course, tohru is the first woman in his life to genuinely care for him so obviously, it turned into motherly love.) but it really isn't until we have great scenes like him laughing at the hot spring after tohru misses the ball in ping pong that we finally see the REAL yuki.
we see this even further when we hit season two and FINALLY, GET THE STUDENT COUNCIL (YAYAYAY) !! this group of unique and comedic characters brings out a whole new exasperation in yuki. it's so refreshing to see genuine reactions from him because he is trying to have actual relationships with people now. emphasis on the fact that he is trying. with his past, it makes sense for him to be such an introverted person. he doesn't feel that he is deserving of relationships when akito made him feel so frail and worthless, taking advantage of him in his weakest state as a child.
this is also what is so beautiful with his relationship with machi. as the prince of the school, yuki is used to constantly hearing how he "deserves the world" or "is so perfect" ect ect... which is something he did lack hearing at home. in contrast, machi never said anything like that about him. she basically called him bland, which for some reason, he appreciated more. yuki is such an interesting character in that way where you would think he would need some extra praise because of his childhood, yet maybe you would argue he wouldn't want to hear it at all because of the fan club at school. my two cents is that yuki just wants to be treated normally!! growing up it was the constant abuse from akito that he "needed her to survive", at school, it's constant attention and adoration; with kyo, it's being the perfect rat. yuki just wanted to be normal. machi treated him normally, even slightly less, which made him fall in love with her. (they're both such messes, i love them.)
now here's "the what could have been:" yuki is arguably one of the most queer-baited characters in anime. as much as i love his relationship with machi, the chemistry was always with kakeru and other male characters. it would have added so much to his development especially after he went from a “potential love interest” for tohru to after he understood his true love for her was more of motherly love. i could argue that yuki lacked SO much potential as a character because he ended up straight. if he ended up with a male character i think it would have made soo much more sense after watching him grow with tohru. (LIKE THINK OF THE SCENE ON THE BEACH WHERE ITS JUST YUKI AND TOHRU LIKE CMON WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE HIM COME OUT TOO.) regardless, i do love yuki and his character was the first to catch my interest when i started watching the original fruits basket back in 6th grade.
i DO highly suggest all of you check out the president perfect animatic on youtube!! it's by emirichu with the song covered by Caleb Hyles. its a beautiful AU and depicts my thoughts on yuki quite perfectly. :)
in conclusion, yuki is really battling a lot. from trying to repair broken relationships with his brother (which i will discuss in ayame's post) to being envious of kyo, to where he stands romantically.
(i apologize now that this is a little all over the place, i just have a lot to say lol. the rest of this series will have talking points!)
songs:
last words of a shooting star - mitski
pluto projector - rex orange county
grow as we go - ben platt
everything i wanted - billie eilish
president perfect - caleb hyles
i love you so - the walters
nobody - mitski
if i'm being honest - dodie
this december - ricky montgomery
i’ve added a link to my yuki playlist too!

Anime Update V2 52
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - Man, if I didn’t know that this anime was mercifully short, I’d probably have dropped it at around this point, and that’s NOT because it’s quality is bad in any way. It’s because it just so grim, bleak, and uncompromising it is in how it depicts realistic tragedy, tragedy born of unfortunate but natural circumstances beyond any person’s ability to foresee or control. It’s a touchy subject for any work of fiction to address, so this anime doing so in such a raw and real-feeling way does have to be commended. Also, now “M/ELDOY” is beginning to sound more and more like a cruel joke.
Hunter x Hunter - Aaaaand of course it wasn’t Ging who Gon and Killua got sent to meet, but instead Kite, who I very vividly remember from the first episode of the 1999 anime but can’t recall much from him in this version before now. He saves the boys from something called a Chimera Ant, which is basically if an ant was not so small, and tells Gon more about his past and how he came to meet Ging, who is still The Worst. What they don’t realize is that elsewhere, the Chimera Ant Queen has been nesting, and is trying to give birth...
Fruits Bakset - Two episodes that continue where we left off in terms of focus on Yuki’s character arc and preparations being made for the school’s Cinderella production. Almost every piece of Yuki Sohma lore that’s been presented to us in a fragmented way throughout the series now all comes together here, and along with it the truth behind Yuki’s feelings for Tohru that seemed to awaken in him back at the end of Season 1: Yuki looks to Tohru for a warm, loving, nurturing mother-like figure to be a presence in his life, despite them being peers. He explicitly states he loves her strongly in a way that is not romantic, but more akin to how a child loves their mother. Given the genre and the whole illusion of a “love triangle” between Tohru, Yuki, and Kyo, this is something hardly anyone could’ve seen coming but in retrospect it makes perfect sense.
A nitpick I have here is that two pretty obvious details got left out of Yuki’s reminiscing: his meeting with Haru, and the entire existence of the Prince Yuki Fan Club. Touching upon the latter would’ve been especially interesting since in theory, their very existence is a rebuttal to everything Akito ever said about Yuki, but in practice they not only reinforce the view of Yuki as something more or less than just a normal human with normal human feelings, but it’s all built around a fangirl’s image of Yuki, a Yuki Sohma who does not really exist. Yuki had to have felt that if they got to know the real him and his Zodiac secret, that club would’ve been over in an instant. The poor guy. :(
Re:ZERO - I sat and watched three episodes straight this time, since they were all following one continous thread. Well, last time I’d said I wished this arc had kept its focus on the different campaign camps of the Royal Selection. The very next episode, we get to see more out of Krusch, Priscilla, and Anastasia! Yes! The scene with Anastasia and how Subaru got totally played by her was particularly amazing. What an absolute girlboss! The action from there continued to be solid, with us meeting Otto, getting to see the mysterious and deadly white whale, and Rem sacrificing not just her life but her existence in the memories of everyone who’s not Subaru. And then Subaru returns to Roswaal’s mansion where he sort of inadvertedly kills Emilia with his shadow magic, which was horrifying. Then Beako shoves him out into the cold somewhere, which was sad. And then Betelgeuse and his cultist buddies show up again, which was great  ‘cause that guy is just impossible not to enjoy watching. Finally, Puck shows his true self again, killing both Betelgeuse and Subaru, who is laughing mad as he freezes to death while hearing Puck’s rebukes.
And then, of course, came the moment - the famed “from zero” part with Subaru and Rem. Which I feel two ways about because on Subaru’s end, it is absolutely gutwrenching and breathtaking to see. The guy is at his lowest and makes his most pathetic bargain (”I’m giving up on Lagunica! Run away with me, Rem! We’ll live out our lives together elsewhere! Please!”) and when denied yet again, he breaks and lets out the tirade of self-loathing that had been building up inside him for who knows how long. When this tirade is met with unconditional, selfless love from Rem and her telling him all the good points to him that she’s come to like about him, that have made him a person whose life is worth something, who has made a positive difference in places and can yet still do so in a grander capacity if he were to pick himself back up and “start from zero”, Subaru slowly but surely has a change of heart and mental state, and it’s so beautiful. But on Rem’s end? This is a definitely a case where I feel the payoff to something is theoretically so good that the faults in the build-up to it actively hinder it. It’s not that it’s even written or executed poorly, but that earlier weaker writing just hangs in the air over it like a bad fart. Cute as Rem’s whole planned-to-the-last-detail image of what a life of her and Subaru together as a couple might be like was, everything she went on to say would’ve had that much more weight and power to it if her love for Subaru was not as heavily and explicitly romantic in nature. What also would’ve improved the scene would be if it wasn’t just Rem, as it only is just Rem because earlier writing in this arc had conspired to make it just Rem even when it made no organic narrative sense. Ram should’ve been here too, as unlike Rem she wasn’t just blunt and indifferent with Subaru before, she’s been downright mean. So to hear her of all people join in with her sister in telling Subaru the things about him that they find worth loving would’ve made for an even stronger, more compelling case to Subaru that his character and efforts aren’t all rotten, worthless, and scorn-worthy. That even at his lowest, he’s not hopeless, not beyond redemption, not undeserving of any love and kindness. ‘Cause as it is, just Rem did not entirely do it for me, so it feels off for me to just have to assume and accept that it did do it enough for Subaru. (The one thing I’m most glad about, though, is that Emilia was kept out of this moment. Her being there, or worse still her being the one to talk Subaru out of his funk and “save him with her love” would’ve spat in the face of Episode 13′s ending scene and sent entirely the wrong message. So I’m glad “I love Emilia” is all her role in this part was.)
Subaru ending this on an Endeavor-esque “watch me!” claim/boast suggests he’s definitely not changed yet, but he has gained more clarity and an extra dose of perspective that could shape the sorts of changes within him yet to come, so I do look forward to seeing that.
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works - Just continuing to see and hear more detail than the Studio Deen anime ever gave us.
Symphogear GX - More has been clarified about the new enemy. Carol is an alchemist who wants to use her power to annihilate the world as vengeance for a mysterious something that befell her late father. Not only does she have three strange doll people serving as her minions and using alchemy as well, but they’ve now been shown to create “Alcanoise”, beings that resemble Noise but aren’t quite. Was also really interested to see more what Kirika, Shirabe, and Maria’s deal is these days - the former two are on probation and get to attend school even while serving to make amends for their terrorist crimes in the F.I.S, but poor Maria, she’s basically lost her entire life to the American douchebags who manage her career as the only means of keeping a clean image and not being locked up. Hope Tsubasa ends up helping her with this, as they seem to be bonding.
Eureka Seven - Captain Juergans and his troops seem to have been utterly defeated for the time being. Eureka continues to just be so weirdly adorable just by being the sheltered, brutally unfiltered alien girl she is, Renton continues to be a personification of cringe, and still not much is known about the Gekko State other than Holland being a crass, apathetic manchild and Talho being a tease. What I was most impressed by was how much I ended up feeling for Renton’s grandfather, who is a very flawed, not particularly pleasant to get along with old man but you can tell he does have love for his family in his heart and cares more than he’d admit. The worst part came at the very end - the debut of three children who Eureka “parents.” Uh oh!
Gintama - This was a pure “stays-in-one-place and is nothing but comedy, other anime references and fourth wall jokes” episode that also just happened to be a milestone episode and a hilarious one at that, so it was also much better to watch in its original language than in that Hulu dub, which was just so atrociously handled that it couldn’t be bothered to provide a fitting voice to the Ryuk cameo at the end!
Oh and boooooooo! Bring the first OP and “MR. RAINDROP” back!

Absolutely amazing to think about how the Prince Yuki Fan Club claim to love him, but you’re never allowed to speak to him one on one or god forbid he actually gets to know intimately, or vice versa. They’re so self absorbed and wrapped up in their own possessiveness to know the boy behind The Prince, especially when you imagine what they’d think of his true personality.
They know nothing about him, idolizing him to the point of isolating him from the rest of the female student body. They look at him as a prize to win but don’t actually try, God forbid they lose.
