Tell ya what. Love Live here and then I'll do MysMe on my MysMe blog!

Year first, youngest to oldest, then within each year it'll be smile->pure->cool!

Rin deserves a cat Pokémon, but will she be allergic? I hope not. Because she would have a Skitty as her partner. An energetic and perhaps a bit erratic cat! It's considered rather feminine in appearance, and I think Rin would have liked having a cute, "girly" Pokémon when she was younger to help her with her dysphoria and to avoid teasing from kids who told her she looked weird in skirts :(

Hanayo is a soft-spoken girl who only seems to perk up around rice and idols. She's extremely shy and insecure, and she would either need a Pokemon who can soothe her or one who can speak up for her. I think a Jigglypuff would be ideal, because it loves to sing but it can also be really tough! Plus it's super cute and fluffy, which fits Hanayo.

Maki has an Audino! Her parents gave her Audino because of their association with hospitals and healthcare in certain regions, but this Audino turned out to be an amazing help for Maki's pursuit of music! Audino have extremely sensitive hearing, so helping Maki with tuning her piano and fixing rough spots was easy.

Honoka has major Growlithe energy, since she's fiery and headstrong and determined. Her Growlithe keeps her from doing anything too dangerous.

Kotori OBVIOUSLY has a bird. Swablu is perfect with its fluffy, cotton wings for our baby bird seamstress! But when it evolves, it's surprisingly powerful, much like how scary Kotori can be when she's serious!

Umi has to have a water type, of course. I propose Oshawott. It's cute and spunky, which probably helps Umi smile and laugh. However it evolves into a samurai, which is fitting for our traditional and honorable beauty!

Nico wants a Pokémon that can shine on stage with her. She builds her team around the concept of cuteness. But we know she bites. Mawile is a fairy type and quite cute... until the jaws come around!

Nozomi definitely has a Gardevoir. The spiritual queen needs a psychic type! Plus, Ralts are good at soothing emotions, which I'm sure she needed as a kid when she was constantly moving around and painfully lonely without any friends. :(

Eli grew up with a Snorunt she received from her grandmother. Now she and her fully-evolved Froslass can dance together elegantly with their thawed hearts!

Aqours

Hanamaru has a name that literally means "flower circle." I propose an Oddish, which is very much a round grass type! Ultimately, as Hanamaru builds confidence as an idol and trainer, her Oddish evolves into Bellossom who dances alongside her!

Ruby would totally have a fairy type. But hear me out: Sylveon. She started with an Eevee like her big sister Dia, but her love was so strong she ended up with a Sylveon!! Trans icon covered in ribbons.

Yohane's best friend is an Absol. She's got horrible luck, but her Absol can sense disasters in advance to try to keep her safe! Plus, Yohane is edgy and would love a dark type.

Chika is the embodiment of the sun, if you ask me. We also know she loves mikans! Not quite an orange, but I think Cherubi would be a good companion for her! Once she evolves into Cherrim, I have no doubt she will spend most of her time in sunshine form because Chika is so radiant! (But it's okay to be in overcast form when you're struggling, Chika!)

You needs a partner who can brave the seas with her! As basic as this may seem, I think Squirtle would be perfect! We know they work well in squads, so Captain You should get along great with Squirtle as her first mate!

Riko, my sweet girl with severe depression. Miss Sakurauchi should have a grass type, right? I think Chikorita is a great idea! Meganium's aromatic flower can soothe emotions, and its breath can revive dead plants. I think Meganium could help "revive" Riko's spirits, too!

Mari is known for being shiny, but we mustn't forget she's lonely too. I like to picture her with a shiny Zoroark. She found a lost and scared Zorua on her family's huge lawn, and she took the little baby in. Zoroark are fiercely loyal Pokémon, and they will use illusions and intimidation to keep enemies away. I bet... Zoroark has had to comfort Mari a lot during her loneliest times. Also Mari would 100% gush over her giant purple edgelord like it's the cutest creature in existence. Metalhead Mari my beloved.

Kanan obviously has a water type partner. She needs a Pokémon who can keep up with her on both land and sea, and so I think she'd bond with a Buizel from a young age! Once Buizel evolves into Floatzel, it can help rescue divers who run into trouble with its flotation sac!

Dia is elegant and refined. She's determined to make her family proud, and she's highly traditional. However, she's also devoted to her dear sister Ruby. Do you remember the Kimono Girls in Johto who each had an Eeveelution? That's why Dia and Ruby both started with Eevees! Dia's Eevee evolves into Glaceon, which suits our New Year's girl (and is even colored like a diamond). A bit cold, but loving and protective nonetheless.

Nijigasaki

Shioriko is extremely disciplined, perhaps too much so to the point where she comes across as uptight and controlling. I think she'd do well with a Medicham, which is elegant but also has sharp senses by training its mind & body with meditation & yoga!

Rina needs an Espurr. I cannot emphasize this enough. Do I even need to explain this?

Kasumi is another idol who thrives on her cuteness. I have to go with Fidough. It's a PUPPY made of BREAD. Mia teases her about that relentlessly.

Shizuku has to have a water type, since her idol icon is raindrops! Starting with a Popplio makes sense, since it's got a lot of tricks and skills to show off on a stage, and a fully-evolved Primarina is perfect to join Shizuku in a musical!

Ai is a ball of energy and laughter and fun. I can totally see her and Misato having a Plusle and Minun, respectively, as they start their journeys together! (Misato needed to wait for her health.) Plusle loves to cheer people and Pokemon on, using "Helping Hand" as needed for an extra boost. Is that not Ai?

Ayumu is a flower girl. Her songs and story are rife with floriography. Conceptually, I think Hoppip would be perfect. Much as Ayumu sings about moving forward one step at a time towards her dream, Hoppip can join her for a hop(pip), skip(loom), and jump(luff)!

Setsuna is the embodiment of fiery passion. She pours her heart and mind into everything she does. I know it sounds basic, but I love the idea of her having a Charmander. They kindle each other's flames and keep the other going. Plus, she's deeply into superheroes (the super sentai type), and I feel like Charizard would be perfect to help her reenact some crazy scenes. She has a big presence, and who fits that better than Charizard?

Lanzhu is a queen and she won't let you forget that. However, she is also associated with angel imagery. I think she'd grow up with a Togepi and then a Togetic, but Togetic refuses to evolve into Togekiss until Lanzhu finds peace and kindness in her heart.

Kanata needs a nap. While Drowzee may come to mind, her idol symbol is a sheep. I think she'd be wonderful with an Ampharos. It evolves from little sheep (Mareep and Flaafy), and its light is so bright that it can serve as a lighthouse or otherwise as a beacon for those who are lost. Kanata is always tired because she overworks herself as a devoted big sister; she wants to be the light that leads others to their dreams.

Mia would receive a music-related Pokemon from her parents, given her role as a member of a prestigious musical family. I can see her with a Chatot who's just as sassy as she is. Chatot helps her with composing new songs but also parrots all of the cursing that Mia does when she's struggling. Oops.

Emma has a Skiddo named Neve and I do NOT accept criticism! She doesn't need her Pokemon to be super strong--she just wants to be friends with her Pokemon! She can ride her Skiddo while singing, like a traveling bard.

Karin is beautiful, cool, and competitive. She's kind of a dork with a horrible sense of direction, too. I can see her with a Lopunny, as a strong, elegant counterpart who also has a soft & cute side. Specifically with the ability Klutz.

Liella!

Natsumi has a Persian she raised from a Meowth. She isn't a very good trainer, but at least Persian is independent enough to best some weaker trainers. Uses Pay Day a lot for quick cash.

Kinako is fox-coded, as her symbol indicates. Most fox Pokémon tend to be sly or cunning, but our country girl Kinako is as sweet as they come. I could see her with an Eevee that comes to the city with an Everstone, but later Kinako takes off the stone as they grow together. Eevee evolves into Espeon because of her friendship.

Mei loves cute things and people, but because other kids fear her "scary" face, she would get an equally "scary" Pokémon because she'd think cute ones don't suit her. I can see her with a Houndour... who happens to love belly rubs and whimpers when you won't play with her.

Shiki insists her Beldum is the cutest Pokémon in existence from the moment she catches them in her "lab" as a child. As a Metagross, they're even cuter. Don't ask about how Shiki uses her steel/psychic partner for science experiments. Don't. :)

Chisato MUST have a round Pokémon! Maybe a Bounsweet who evolves into an AMAZING dancer Tsareena!

Sumire needs a space-themed Pokémon so she can be the best coordinator in the galaxy! Cleffa (eventually Clefable) seems like the natural choice! How could anyone NOT want to watch a pair of cutie pies shine on TV?

Keke loves pandas, but that seems too... cliche. I think she'd have a Snubbull partner! People judge Snubbull at first glance because of appearances, but they're loyal, determined, and loving Pokemon. Keke looks like a happy-go-lucky and carefree girl, but her burning passion and dedication to idols is beyond everyone's expectations. Also she's a star student. How. Girl. Share your secrets.

Kanon grew up with her family's Rowlet! Rowlet is a quiet little guy, storing energy during the day and flying silently with ninja-like attacks. Kanon is someone who chooses to stay quiet after she thinks her dreams are over, but she's also a reserved, anxious person in general. I can see her sitting in the sun "photosynthesizing" with her Rowlet. They grow stronger together, but even Decidueye lurks in the shadows and stays silent. Don't make either of them do public speaking, please.

Ren loves her Stoutland Chibi dearly, but Chibi is not a battling type. She actually has a Sinistea as a partner! She poured some tea and left it for a moment, and in a large, lonely, empty house like hers... a spirit was all too willing to inhabit her cup. But she didn't mind the new resident in her manor, where the emptiness is oppressive. Two lonely souls who became unlikely friends. (And of course hers is antique)

Nico's phone had never had so many notifications, not even the night she swept the Grand Prizes at the MAMA Awards. Mentions of Maki's name, the constant messaging of the Muse group chat, but nothing from Rin since the message that Maki might have a concussion. Nothing from Maki. Nico wondered if she might have misplaced her phone somewhere. But Rin was there. Probably. If Maki had really not gone to the Nishikino hospital, there would be no special treatment. Maki was not good at ordinary, especially when angry. Nico sighed. Going to the hospital, especially when they'd kept their relationship private for 6 years, would blow up a carefully planned soft launch, set to happen next month, before…

Nico shook her head, hoping that activity would keep worry out. She would go to Maki's penthouse apartment. First she had to make a stop. Pulling up the collar on her coat, mask covering half her face, sunglasses to hide her eyes, and her hair in a ponytail under a ball cap, Nico hurried to meet her ride.

Nico opened the car door, pausing, surprised. "Mama? Cocoa said she'd meet me."

"She has class in the morning. And I wanted to talk to my baby. How's Maki?"

"Rin hasn't said. Maki hasn't called. I don't know."

Silence.

"How are you?"

Nico felt the weary hit her. "Tired, mama. Nico is tired. Everyone's blowing up Nico's phone, wanting to know the plan."

"Is there a plan?"

"Get Maki home, pile covers on her, feed her something good for her and the baby, lock the door and turn off my phone."

"I brought food, enough for a few days. Cocoa said you wanted to pick some essentials up at National Azabu."

"Maki never keeps anything around. Nico knows that. And she loves Western food."

"Cotaro and I made lasagna."

"Mama." Nico'd been trying so hard not to cry.

"Just let it out, Nico. And you'll feel better when you see Maki-chan."

"Maki-chan." The worry slammed back.

"I have a few choice words for her parents."

"They don't know everything, Mama."

"I still…"

"Mama. Just drive. Please."

Inhale. Nico's mama getting her feelings under control. So many feelings out of control. Fear, worry, anger. What Nico needed right now was a few moments of calm.

"What can I do?"

"Just get Nico home."

"You should come home with me, Maki. I don't want to leave you and Rin, Jr, alone."

"I thought your baby was Rin, Jr."

"Nah, you'll want to name yours after your best friend. We'd get them confused."

Maki rolled her eyes, almost laughing. Rin was an expert at breaking up Maki's darker moods. "So are you naming yours after me?"

A huge, Rin hug engulfed Maki. "I knew we were besties. You always pretend to be so grumpy…."

After allowing a three second embrace, Maki pushed Rin off, a practiced move after six years, "I am grumpy. Just not at you."

"What'd your parents do?"

Did Rin want the list? Sure. Maki still had a whole lot of anger to fuel a rant aimed directly at the elder Nishikinos. "The protestors were spoiled, Nico is vapid…"

"ooh, that's bad."

"Shut up, Rin. Don't interrupt me."

Rin made a zipper gesture across her mouth.

"Nico is dating three dancers, Nico wastes money, the protestors are too young to know what the world is like, their parents should intervene, big events draw attention to charities, screaming and chanting and obscene signs kill support, Japan has to lock down to keep catastrophic change from destabilizing our society, we have always relied on each other, why stop now, I'm immature, if Nico were serious, she would have married me…

"But you a…

"Do you want me to keep talking or…"

The elevator slid open to the foyer in front of Maki's penthouse apartment.

"If I'm going to use my money, I ought not to side with criminals. Nishikinos have always led quiet lives, helping others, staying out of the news except for spending millions throwing huge parties, laughing with their richy richy friends while…"

"Maki."

Rin called Maki's attention to the door she was about to pound on in frustration. Maki tapped in the security passcode instead.

"I just want to lie down, put up my feet, and stare at the skyline."

"You shouldn't be alone."

"You need to go home to Hanayo."

The door opened and suddenly the air was full of a deliciously familiar smell, Maki's favorite tomato sauce, fennel, basil, some of the sharpness of oregano. Maki felt like she was moving from a cold, damp fog into welcome.

"Nico-chan?" Not full voiced, not a whisper, a breathed hope.

"Maki-chan." Nico popped into the center of the room with a grand bow. "Mama and Cotoro made us dinner."

"Nico-chan." Rin rushed to hug Nico.

"Don't crush Nico. Nico needs those ribs in two days."

"Maki's got a concussion almost. The doctor says she'll be fine but you should keep an eye on her. She was maybe lying about her symptoms. Her eyes awfully twitchy."

"Your eyes ARE awfully twitchy." Maki glared.

Nico wiggled out of Rin's arms, moving to pull Maki into hers. "Hey you. Nico was super worried. You didn't even text."

"Neither did you."

"Not true."

"You had your phone off, Maki."

"Oh."

"See Nico-chan. She's confused. And LYING about symptoms."

"You can't lie about dilated pupils, Rin. I don't have them."

"You wince at car headlights."

"Whoa, whoa…" Nico held out a hand, "I'm sure Maki knows how she feels." Nico made sure to turn toward Rin so Maki couldn't see her and mouth, "I'll watch her."

Rin nodded. "I'm gonna go home and tell Kayo-chin our little nibling is all right. And Nico's taking care of Maki." Rin stepped closer, "Take good care of Maki-chan, Nico."

Maki had slumped a little on Nico's shoulder.

"Yeah, Nico's got this."

"Rin?" Maki snapped.

"Maki?" Rin snapped back.

"Thanks."

"What are besties for? Go to sleep soon. Nothing..." Rin wagged a finger, contorting her face. "shameless."

"Go home to your wife." Nico growled.

Rin grinned. "Already out the door." And with gold medal winning speed, she was.

Maki giggled, "We have silly friends."

"The silliest. Nico wouldn't trade 'em for anyone."

"Nope."

"So what did your parents do?"

Somehow, Maki still had energy. Or adrenaline. Pacing back and forth, arms flying, fluffy bathrobe occasionally falling open. Nico had arranged lanterns, placing them on the stairs leading to the piano loft and in a large circle around the bed and seating area. The only other light was nightime Tokyo, the golden spike of the Tokyo Tower as bright as a candle flame.

"Maki-chan?" Nico threw back the covers, "Come here."

Maki stopped, staring.

"You need to rest."

"I told you, I'm fine."

"Nico heard." Nico got up, grabbed Maki's hands and dragged her to their bed, "Lie down. Rant at Nico all you want, But do it in bed."

"Why?"

"You're sexy when you're mad."

"NICO-CHAN!"

"You're not mad at Nico." A wink and Nico dropped them both onto the mattress.

"I could be."

"Nico's too cute. And I know you missed me." A quick kiss on Maki's nose and then Nico leaned over to kiss her abdomen, "And I know someone else missed Nico's lullabies."

"Nico-chan." Maki's voice softened.

"How is Nico's newest, tiniest favorite person to be?" Nico stretched out on her stomach, next to Maki, her head still at belly level.

Maki blushed, brushing a hand through Nico's hair. "They're still so tiny, so fragile." A groan. "It's terrifying."

Nico kicked up her legs, meeting Maki's worried gaze. "Nico's scared too. But we're doing this together."

"But is it the right thing to do? Start a family? With everything that's happening now? What kind of world will they be growing up into? Will people like my parents ever start listening?"

"Maybe when they know why you were so upset."

"I couldn't tell them. It…ugh, Nico-chan, it was so frustrating, hearing them talk over everyone, calling the police so their friends didn't stress or take back their donations. I can't believe…"

"What?"

Maki shook her head; Nico didn't press. Nico reached out a hand, her attention on the new life Maki carried, "Nico promises to take good care of your mother. And your mother and I will help make changes so you have a planet to live on."

"Can we make a difference, Nico-chan?"

"We're going to. People need hope. Nico is good at hope."

Maki smiled, "You are."

"And our child will be good at friends. Nobody should be alone."

"But we're not good at friends, I'm not good at…"

"Maki, Nico's phone practlcally blew up with 7 friends who were begging to do something for you, anything, because they care about you. Maybe we started out bad at friends, you and me, Maki-chan, but we learned, we reached out, we cared, we helped each other, struggled together with them, miracles happened, and both our lives changed. Muse has always been there for each other, and that's what we're going to raise our children to believe in: friendship."

"Not love?" Maki leaned back, blinking, energy lessening.

"There's all kinds of love, Maki-chan. Nico and her fans, family love, friend love….the world runs on love."

Maki was pouting.

Nico raised an eyebrow, "Maki is feeling neglected?"

"No." Hand to curl, twist. Nico almost laughed.

"Nico is very glad for one very special kind of love."

Maki waited. Nico pushed up and crawled next to Maki, leaning in, "Nico missed Maki."

"Don't go away then."

"Come with me." A quick kiss. "Nico can be very persuasive."

A yawn, a headshake, and a grimace.

"When do I win?"

"Touring with Nico isn't a win? I'll get a piano."

"You just want private concerts."

"Just want you." Nico yawned as she kissed Maki's shoulder.

"We'll talk about it in the morning." Maki realized sleep was about to drop. Nico was so warm and soft and near, one arm wrapping around Maki's waist. It was an irresistible comfort. Maki could feel herself relaxing. Two weeks without Nico had been stressful. Without that stress, Maki suddenlly realized how weary she was, tired of being alone and independently brave, how much she just wanted to fall sleep in Nico's arms, to feel loved and secure, to be taken care of, to know Nico would do everything she could for her, for their baby. Trust was still hard for Maki, but Nico had earned it. So maybe Maki could trust that Nico's hopes were not thin winter ice, that there was a future solid enough for a family.

"C'mon, Maki-chan, cuddle," Nico mumbled, pulling Maki closer..

"All right." Maki pushed tight against Nico, "Just for a minute."

"uh huh."

"I'm not tired."

"uh huh."

Yawn. BIg yawn. "Tokyo at night is incandescent."

"Maki-chan's incandescent. Now close your eyes."

'''kay" Eyelids fluttered shut.

"Gotcha." Nico whispered. "Good night, pretty girl."

"'night, Nico-chan."

Nico would be there when Maki woke up. That was more hope than yesterday.

A/N: Pygmalion finished well and I'm still recovering from not feeling well by watching ambient music videos and seeing luxury apartments Maki might own. So this happened. Next up, back to the not so luxurious West.

Summary: Nozomi and Nico are acting a little weird, but Eli's not sure what it means. If anything at all.

Nozomi’s phone buzzed.

Eli glanced over at the noise to see Nozomi pick it up and then almost immediately slap it back down onto the table.

“Uh,” she said, raising an eyebrow. “Is something up?”

“N-No,” Nozomi said, clearing her throat. “Just spam.”

“Is it at least funny spam?” Honoka piped up from the couch.

“No, just normal. Just a phone plan offer.”

Eli looked suspiciously at Nozomi. Her expression was calm, but her cheeks had gone a little red.

Well, whatever. It was probably nothing. Eli turned back to the screen as Nico came back from the bathroom, flopping back down onto a chair.

“What’d I miss?” she said.

“Nothing important,” Maki said. “But on the other hand, that would have been true even if you’d missed the entire thing…”

Nico stuck her tongue out at her.

The show they were all watching together wasn’t exactly… mile a minute. Eli wouldn’t have put things as harshly as Maki, but, well, it was certainly true that taking a bathroom break didn’t tend to mean you missed much of anything. They’d all agreed to watch it since it was a showcase of upcoming idol talents, and all of them still had no shortage of nostalgia for those days back in highschool when they’d been a part of that world together. But between way too long filler segments and intermissions paired with not a lot of promising groups, Eli had to admit she was a little bored. Maki had checked out entirely, reading something on her phone without even pretending to check the screen. Honoka and Rin seemed to have started playing something akin to paper football as they waited for the next performance. Kotori was looking at the screen, but clearly spacing out. Only Hanayo, Umi, and Nico really seemed to be engaged.

As Eli considered whether she should get out of her own phone, the announcer finally came on to say that the next group was coming out. Eli honestly didn’t expect much, but to her pleasant surprise, they turned out to be pretty good. When they wrapped up their song, she heard Nozomi clap politely.

“There, see, Maki?” she said. “There was something good.”

“One act,” Maki said. “And we’ve been watching for an entire hour. That’s hardly a good ratio.”

“So what?” Nico said. “How many hours do you think they trained to be that good, Maki?”

“Wha- what does that have to do with anything?” Maki spluttered.

“You don’t find diamonds in the rough by glancing at the ground for a couple seconds and then saying “well, no diamonds here!”” Nico said, pointing accusingly. “When you’re panning for gold, most of what you find is dirt!”

“Uwah… that’s a little harsh on the other groups, Nico…” Hanayo said. “I wouldn’t say they’re dirt…”

Nico made an impatient gesture. “I don’t mean they’re literally dirt,” she said.

“How many hours do you think they practiced?” Rin said.

“Ugh! You’re all missing my point!”

Eli sighed and rubbed her temples. There was another MC segment on, which meant that there was nothing to distract from this argument for at least another five or ten minutes. She braced herself for a serious quarrel, when, suddenly, Kotori piped up.

“Still, that last group really was amazing, weren’t they?” she said. “How do you think they got that layer effect on their costumes without it shifting around constantly?”

“Actually, I was wondering that too,” Umi said.

“Hmm…” Nico said, tapping her chin. “Maybe they just sewed the layers together with fishing line?”

“No, that wouldn’t work,” Maki said. “It would still shift around the parts that weren’t sewn, and if it was sewn everywhere, it wouldn’t have any depth…”

Thankfully, intentionally or not, Kotori had completely distracted them from their argument, and instead of fighting, they spent the next ten minutes discussing how they could have pulled off that effect and whether they should have tried it back when they were making costumes for μ’s.

Unfortunately, the next performance was… well, frankly, not a diamond in the rough. They were enthusiastic, but it was obvious that they weren’t really experienced enough yet. Eli heard Nico clicking her tongue when one of them quite clearly missed a step and hesitated before continuing on.

Midway through, Nozomi got up and headed towards the bathroom, not even bothering to wait for them to finish before she went. Not that Eli could much blame her.

A minute or two later, Nico’s phone made a cutesy little chirp. Nico made a conflicted face, doubtless half annoyed at being interrupted and half happy at having an excuse to stop watching. She wavered for a moment, glancing back at the screen, but finally she picked up her phone and unlocked it.

And then she let out a strangled gasp, staring at her phone, wide-eyed.

“Nico?” Eli said. “You alright?”

“I’m fine,” Nico said quickly, her eyes darting to Eli for a second before bouncing back to her phone.

“O...kay?” Eli said. Well, it wasn’t as if it was really any of her business what someone had sent to Nico, but it was certainly strange, especially since Nico was turning a little red and seemed suddenly quite fidgety.

Maybe it was just because she needed to use the bathroom, because as soon as Nozomi got back, Nico was off like a shot, practically sprinting towards it.

At this point, even Hanayo was starting to zone out as the announcer droned on about the history of the venue, launching into an interminable monologue about rakugo and the rise of the theatre.

“DId half the groups just get sick and they don’t want to admit it?” Maki asked incredulously. “Why are there so many of these segments?”

“Maybe it just takes a long time for them to prep the different acts?” Nozomi suggested charitably.

“It’s not like they’re bringing out complicated sets for everyone or anything…” Maki grumbled.

Nozomi shrugged and took a sip of her drink. Nico had demanded a total alcohol ban because “I don’t want any of you getting all drunk and rowdy and talking over the performances!” which struck Eli as slightly hypocritical in a very Nico like fashion, considering how loud she got when she drank. Anyway, thanks to that ban, Nozomi was nursing a glass of orange juice when she got another message.

And promptly started choking.

“Are you alright?” Eli asked, standing up in alarm as Nozomi coughed and smacked herself on the back.

“I-I’m-” Nozomi wheezed. “Okay. Just- went down- the wrong-” she coughed again.

Eli hurried over and thwapped her on the back until Nozomi started to catch her breath again and held up a hand for Eli to stop.

“Thanks,” she said. “I’m just going to- get some fresh air.”

Before Eli could ask why exactly choking on orange juice was cured by fresh air, Nozomi had quickly walked off, clutching her phone tightly.

Well… nothing for it but to return to the show, then.

The monologue about rakugo droned on to a boring conclusion, another mediocre group stumbled through an unoriginal performance, and another monologue began, and still Nozomi wasn’t back. And neither was Nico, for that matter.

Nico was weird enough, but, well… wondering too much about why someone spent a long time in the bathroom was probably never going to lead anywhere nice. But Nozomi was odder. Maybe she’d gone for a short walk, since she needed air. But it was odd for her to do that when they were watching something together, especially since she hadn’t bothered to tell anyone.

Digging out her phone, she sent Nozomi a quick text.

Hey, you’ve been gone for a while. Are you okay?

A minute or so later, her phone buzzed.

Hi Elicchi, sorry for worrying you! Just lost track of time a little. Feeling much better now, I’m just heading back in.

As she read the message, Eli heard footsteps and glanced up to see Nozomi tottering back into the room, looking slightly unsteady and a bit flushed, with her hair distinctly mussed.

Wait, wasn’t she supposed to be feeling better?

Still, she did look cheerful, so maybe she’d just gone for a run or something.

“Sorry about that,” she said. “Did I miss anything?”

“The answer’s still no,” Maki piped up.

A minute later, Nico appeared.

“What took you so long?” Honoka asked.

Nico made a face. “An idol shouldn’t ask about what happens in a bathroom, and definitely shouldn’t talk about it either,” she said primly, sitting back down on her chair and fiddling with her shirt, which was looking oddly ruffled.

Well, whatever. The monologue was finally ending. Maybe the next performance would be good.

“You know, we’re really lucky that dear Elicchi is dense and no one else was paying attention,” Nozomi said, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel as they sat at a red light.

“I don’t want to hear that from you,” Nico grumbled. “You’re the one who took it from “cheeky little topless photo” to full on nude. And you’re the one who started knocking on the door demanding to be let in!”

“You started it, Niccochi!” Nozomi said. “And you can’t talk about escalation when you took a picture of you touching yourself!”

“If you don’t want pictures of me touching myself, don’t send me nudes that make me want to touch myself!” Nico shot back.

Both of them fell silent as the light changed and Nozomi put her foot back down on the pedal.

“...It was kind of a buzzkill to have Eli text you,” Nico said.

“Well, we were in Honoka’s guest bathroom,” Nozomi said. “How many rounds did you really think we’d have time for?”

“Not enough, clearly,” Nico said.

Nozomi gripped the steering wheel a little tighter.

“Don’t distract me when I’m driving, Niccochi.”

“Then get home fast,” Nico said, smirking. “Because I’m overcome with the urge to do some very distracting things to you.”

Nozomi gripped the steering wheel even tighter and considered risking a speeding ticket.

(Kotori) Aggravated Assault. But in general, Kotori is really too sweet and obedient to really get into any trouble (unless someone triggers her yandere mode)

(Nozomi or Hanayo) Nozomi, she has her spiritual powers to protect me. Not to mention it would feel like walking home with my mom. How much safer can you get than that? Also, no offense to Hanayo, but she would make the trip even less safe because of how much of an easy target she is.

23) What would Three do if they found Two and Four together?

(Rin and Maki/Eli) Rin would definitely be happy for them, but she may or may not be a bit sad (depends on whether you headcanon her crushing on Maki or not)

(Honoka/Eli) It’s a stormy day and Eli's there, standing in the rain. Honoka sees her, and offers an umbrella. (This is back when they were enemies, btw.)

How to Handle a Nico - The No. 1 Masseuse in the Universe

Primary Pairing: NicoMaki Words: ~1.8k Rating: T’ish? Time Frame: Summer break of Maki’s 2nd year of high school and Nico’s 1st year of college. Story Arc: “Beach Reunion” Sunscreen The No. 1 Masseuse in the Universe

Author’s Note: This was originally intended to be about a 100 - 200 word addition to the end of Sunscreen, but I thought I might be able to build a full scene around it. So I did.

I’m also hoping my readers have seen the LL movie by now, as it’s referenced a little bit here.

And here she comes… Nico thought to herself as she spied a certain meddlesome purple haired girl heading in her direction. Ughn… that smug face of hers… Unfortunately, Nico was busy tending the grill as her part of preparing dinner for the group and thus had no means of escaping the teasing she knew was incoming.

“Ne~, Nicocchi~,” Nozomi drawled as she approached “I heard someone was having a bit of fun earlier.” She emphasized the word heard, accompanied by a wholly unnecessarily waggle of her eyebrows.

“Shut up, Nozomi.” Nico grumbled, trying to make it obvious she was focusing on the meat skewers in front of her.

But of course, someone like Nozomi would never just let something like this go. “You and Maki-chan seem to be getting along nicely as of late.” She continued. “I haven’t even heard much of your usual study session bickering. Are you two perhaps making some progress I should know about?”

“No.” Nico dismissed flatly. “And you know the reasons why.”

“I see, well, that’s too bad.” At least that part sounded sincere. “I still think you two would make a cute couple, and you know I’m here to support you however things go.”

“I know.” Nico nodded. “Say, what’s that behind your back?”

“Oh, Elicchi and I just prepared some fruit kebobs” Nozomi revealed the food “with the extra sticks and thought the No. 1 Grill Master in the Universe would be willing to cook them up.”

“Wow, those look amazing.” Nico marveled. “I mean,” she puffed out her chest with pride “of course Nico would be more than happy to reveal more of her mastery of the flame.” She clapped her tongs together a couple times for emphasis.

Nozomi giggled and started to place the kebobs onto the grate.

“Wait, not quite…” Nico snapped up one of the meat skewers and turned it for inspection “well, maybe it’s fine. Uhm, hand me that plate so I can put these on it.”

“Here you go.” The purple-haired girl did as instructed.

“And don’t be stealing any of these before putting them out on the table.” The raven-haired girl warned.

“I wouldn’t dream of it.”

“Uh-huh…”

Once the plate was full, Nozomi turned and began to walk away.

“So that was it?” Nico couldn’t help asking.

“Hmm?” The other girl paused and turned to look back over her shoulder.

“I mean…”

The Cheshire cat grin returned. “Don’t worry, Nicocchi, the cards told me something good will happen very soon.”

“Hrm… Hey! What did I say about taking…” Nico was about to chase after Nozomi when she remembered the freshly loaded fruit kebobs that now needed tending.

“Oh, Mama just messaged me” Maki announced, retrieving her phone as the credits began to roll for the movie the girls had just finished “she says she’s sorry for not remembering earlier, but the staff moved all of the futons to one of our other places for some retreat a friend of hers hosted last week and they haven’t been able to bring them back.”

“So, we can’t all sleep here like the other times?” Honoka asked.

“Well, we could.” The redhead acknowledged. “I’m sure there are enough blankets, but there are four bedrooms we could use if we don’t mind sharing.”

“So kinda like our New York trip?”

“Something like that, though each room only has one bed...”

“That’s fine! Umi-chan and Kotori-chan and I can share one.”

“The biggest guestroom is at the end of the hall.”

“Alright, let’s go to bed!” Honoka cheered, grabbing the arms of her two fellow third-years.

“H-Honoka…” Umi protested verbally, though didn’t appear to offer any appreciable resistance. “You had better not start snacking on chips the moment the lights go out.”

“That was just one time!” The orange-haired girl pouted.

“More like pretty much every time…”

“Don’t worry, Umi-chan,” Kotori chimed in “I’ll be sure to check her bag for any contraband.”

“Kotori-chan!” Honoka whined. “You two are mean.” Though despite her words, she continued to drag her friends up the stairs toward the room she had claimed for them.

“Rin and Kayo-chin are fine with the smallest bedroom.” Rin proclaimed next. “We’re used to sharing a bed these days, nya!” She pulled the other second-year into a one-armed hug.

“Rin-chan…” Hanayo murmured but didn’t disagree.

“Actually, the remaining two guest rooms are the same size.” Maki explained.

“You’re taking the master bedroom, Maki-chan?” Nozomi asked of the host.

“Of course, I thought that much was obvious.”

“Then Elicchi and I will take whichever room Rin-chan and Hanayo-chan don’t use.” She tossed a quick wink to Nico.

“See you all in the morning.” Eli said before yawning and following her girlfriend.

“So, that leaves…” Nico turned to the other remaining occupant of the living room.

“You can stay with me in the master bedroom.” Maki offered quietly. “If that’s alright with you, of course.”

If it’s alright? Nico thought to herself. Of course, it’s alright! This is how I wanted the room arrangements to be in New York!

But instead of giving voice to these thoughts, what came out of Nico’s mouth was “I suppose it can’t be helped. Nico will grace Maki’s bed with her presence tonight.”

“Or you can sleep on the couch.” The younger girl motioned to the mentioned sofa.

Nico giggled before striking a dramatic pose and held out her hand. “Lead the way to the master suite, Maki-ojou-sama.” She teased with the title she had heard used by the Nishikino household staff.

Maki rolled her eyes but took the older girl’s hand anyway as the two headed up the stairs.

“Ne, Nico-chan…”

“Mmm?” Nico looked up from the idol site she was browsing on her phone and took in a pleasing view.

Maki had just exited the bathroom, clad in her favorite purple pajamas with white stars and still drying her hair. She had insisted that since Nico was the guest that the older girl take the first turn in the tub and was now done with her own.

“About that offer of a massage…”

“Oh ho!” Nico couldn’t help feeling a bit giddy. As if sharing a room wasn’t enough to make her believe Nozomi’s prediction, this certainly solidified things. “Maki-chan is anxious to take advantage of the No. 1 Masseuse in the Universe’s skills already?”

“Just realized in the bath that I’m a little sore after everything we did today.” Maki admitted.

“Someone having a bit too much fun?” Nico happily added a sing-song tone to her voice.

“…” Maki puffed out a frustrated breath as she made her way toward the bed.

“Well, Nico is ready to provide the service, even if Maki-chan hasn’t paid for it yet.”

“You know I’m good for it.” Maki lay down on her stomach. “Besides, I’d probably end up helping you anyway, even without this; heck I’ve probably already paid for it several times over.”

“You sure you want to strike an attitude with someone about to give you a massage?”

Maki sighed. “No, you’re right. It’s just that cram school has been really stressful lately…”

“Yeah,” Nico said, getting up off the bed “I figured that when you upped your order from quad to quint.”

“Nico-chan?”

“Just getting you some water. I’ve read studies recently that say drinking before a massage may actually be better than after, as the water is already starting to work through your system when the toxins are released from the massage.”

“Hrm…”

“Trust me. Here.” Nico held out a bottle.

“Alright.” Maki accepted the water and drank a good portion of it before handing the remainder back. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Nico put the bottle on the nightstand.

“Anyway, this little vacation has honestly been the best break I could ask for…” Maki continued. “And… I’m happy you’re here with me for it.”

“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Nico couldn’t help smiling at the unexpected, but by no means unappreciated honesty. “Nico always enjoys her time with her favoritest Maki-chan.”

Maki hummed an affirmative response.

“So, how thick are the walls here?”

“Hm?”

“Because…” Nico placed her hands on the other girl’s back. Immediately, she found one of the knots she had noticed earlier that day and pressed into it with her thumb.

“Ughn…” Maki pressed her face into the duvet.

“That’s why.”

“I’ll… be fine…”

“So you say…” Nico chuckled as the redhead was forced to muffle herself again.

As Nico found yet another knot, she wondered how hard she should work it. She had taught herself many advanced techniques over the years to help her mother deal with the stress of working multiple jobs, and nowadays to help a certain roommate deal with tensions stemming from things that made Nico jealous. As such, if she really put her weight into things, she could probably completely alleviate most of the smaller knots, if not a few of the larger ones as well.

However, it was almost time to turn in for the night and the group still had another day of fun planned as well as a long train ride back to Tokyo. She didn’t want to leave Maki too sore because as much as the tsundere’ish girl would deny it if confronted, she would want to participate in tomorrow’s activities. With this in mind, Nico decided to keep things on the lighter, more relaxing side. If Maki enjoyed the massage and its benefits, Nico could offer another one later that would leave the redhead unwilling to leave the couch the next day.

Of course, with that thought, Nico began imagining other things she could do to Maki that would leave her sprawled out on the bed, exhausted. For example, she could…

No. Nico shook her head. Focus. Now is very much not the time for that… We’re not even going out yet! … yet… She sighed with that last thought.

Having been lost in her own mind for so long, Nico suddenly realized that whatever conversation she had been holding with Maki had ceased, likely a while ago.

“Maki-chan?” Nico ventured quietly.

Silence.

Did she fall asleep? Nico smirked to herself before leaning over to confirm her suspicions. Sure enough, Maki’s eyes were closed and her breathing had slowed to a soft and steady rhythm. Good thing I had you drink beforehand. Nico glanced at the mostly empty bottle on the nightstand. Or else you’d really be sore in the morning.

Now Nico faced a dilemma, Should she wake Maki so she could get under the covers or find something else to use and let her sleep? Hrm… Nico eyed the closet door for a moment before getting off the bed to investigate. Thankfully, her suspicious proved correct as she located a small collection of folded blankets. As it was summer, she chose the lightest one and brought it back to the bed.

As Nico spread the blanket over Maki, she noted that it was not the right size for the humongous mattress and as such, it didn’t leave much room for her. She could, of course, just retrieve a second blanket, but… After a moment, Nico shrugged and slid in close to the other girl.

“Good night, Maki-chan.” Nico murmured as she pulled her share of the blanket over herself and closed her eyes.

My Top 9 μ's Girls

Wow I promised this last September huh? Whatever, it’s here now. I’ve had this drafted since around then and the images were my then-favourite cards of the girls on SIFAS’ EN server, and I can’t be bothered updating them since tbh my phone shits itself if I try to take screenshots when playing SIFAS. Anyway, let’s go.

9. Nozomi Toujou

Honestly Nozomi always feels like an unfortunate one to talk about, in that when she’s at her best, she’s honestly among the best in μ's. I’d still end up probably putting her at 6 or something since I’m not really into her design or voice, but you know, when Nozomi’s great, she’s great. It’s just that Nozomi is rarely at her best, and her most memorable moments - that being the groping gimmick - are memorable for all the wrong reasons. Nozomi is the one μ's girl that is consistently unlikeable because of that, and combined with the aforementioned weaker design and voice, her good just isn’t enough to put her above 9th.

8. Eli Ayase

Eli is... fine. I don’t really have much of an opinion on her actually. I like her design, but “like” is all I can really say about it. Her singing voice is incredible. But I don’t really have any other feelings on her. Her arc in season 1 feels a little contrived. She doesn’t really feel like she amounts to much elsewhere. She’s perfectly serviceable and that’s it.

7. Kotori Minami

Kotori has a worse design than Eli tbh and definitely a worse voice, plus her character is almost solely defined by the fact that she’s nice and is Honoka’s friend, but honestly I still sorta weirdly like her enough for her to be above Eli here. Might just be because I find her cuter tbh.

6. Umi Sonoda

Umi’s in a weird position, right. The μ's girls weren’t exactly created with an anime in mind so many of them have pretty simple personalities, and Umi is basically just the strict, serious, and smart one. But honestly for as standard as that trope is, I still like it, and I think Umi being unexpectedly cringe with Love Arrow Shoot and shit makes her feel a little different and endearing. Plus her design is maybe my favourite in μ's and Suzuko Mimori’s voice is extremely hard to beat.

5. Hanayo Koizumi

Hanayo’s in a similar position to Umi in that she’s sort of just the shy trope, but once again that’s a trope I adore, and Hanayo is an especially adorable execution of such. Her design is adorable, her passion for school idols is very relatable, her foodie tendencies are relatable and not nearly as grating as Hanamaru’s, and I really love her voice too. She just sounds really cute! I do think it’s not necessarily the best singing voice, like it works in Moment Ring as an example, but I think Kodoku na Heaven is proof that Yurika Kubo can go a lot harder and still sound like Hanayo, so I wish that was her default singing voice instead. But yeah, real good girl.

4. Maki Nishikino

Maki actually was my best μ's girl for a good while, but she sorta just fell out of favour as I started liking genki girls more (process of elimination already tells you the top 3 is just all genki girls after all). But Maki’s still really great, she’s probably the cutest and one of the least annoying tsunderes I’ve ever seen, and it feels justified given her upbringing and her family and stuff. Design’s adorable, voice is one of the best in Love Live, one of her school idol diaries made me cry, NicoMaki is the best μ's ship. Maki’s just based.

3. Rin Hoshizora

Rin! Is! Very! Cute! Yeah I mainly like Rin because she’s cuter than any words I can come up with to describe how cute she is. The design to the voice to how she’s animated to her relationship with Hanayo and her general chemistry with most other characters anyway, she’s just 110% cute 120% of the time. Also back on that voice for a second, Rin’s singing is unexpectedly god tier - I think it honestly blew me away that the funny nya girl could go that hard. Rin’s a bundle of joy who I love very much.

2. Nico Yazawa

Everyone knows Nico even if they don’t know Love Live, and everyone loves Nico and they’re a fucking liar if they say otherwise. And that includes me, I love Nico a ton. Funny Nico Nico Nii girl is obviously stupid cute, and the black hair + red eye combo does a lot for me, but she’s also a much better written character than one might expect her to be. Her whole shtick with being the galaxy’s number 1 idol makes a lot of sense when you consider she’s the eldest sister and is constantly babysitting her biggest fans, it’s just real sweet. Nico’s just all around based as fuck. And by process of elimination...

1. Honoka Kousaka

It’s Honkers. Honoka is just, take basically every positive adjective I’ve used throughout this post and apply them tenfold to Honoka. She’s utterly adorable, she can be really pretty, her genki charm is infectious and never overbearing, the fact that she’s like the stupidest Love Live girl by far yet can be such an inspiration is wild, this girl is a force of nature in the best way possible. And Emi Nitta’s voice, oh my god. If you’ve not heard the Honoka solo versions of just random μ's songs then you should because this girl goes above and beyond to be worthy of all those centers she has. I think going into writing this post this time around, I was gonna say something like “if you asked me on a different day, Nico might be number 1 over Honoka”, but as I was writing this ultimately pretty simple section, I still felt like, “No, Honoka is number 1 for sure”. Honoka is amazing.

And yeah, that’s my hotly anticipated μ's list I promised in September and realistically I should have written one of these years ago. But hey, better late than never, right? Best part is that my μ's opinions have remained remarkably consistent for a good while now so this list probably won’t need revised like I already need to do for my Niji list lol. Might need to do a revised Aqours list more though, even if only to match the format. Not gonna do a proper Liella list until they have more content but Chisato > Sumire > Kanon > Keke > Ren.

She'd lay her head on your shoulder with lots of blankets

I think she'd be happiest if she was given headpats too, with a little kiss on the forehead

She's a bit spoiled, but at least she's cute, right?

Absolutely the type who would love pillow fort cuddles

Expect cuddles in a mountain of little plushies too

She's always a teeeny bit embarrassed if she ever asks for cuddles

But if you happen to ask her she'll gladly oblige

Movie nights are prime cuddle time

If you fall asleep before her she might sneak a little kiss on the cheek

Also IMMENSELY adorable when sleepy/asleep

I can't see Umi as the type to really seem like she is a cuddler, she'd probably call them shameless at first

Poor sheltered girl is probably beet red the first time or so

But then

If you rope her into cozy cuddle time...after a few times

You'll have created a monster

In absolute denial the whole time, but she comes to adore cuddling

Wouldn't ask to cuddle much (despite wanting to very often)

And when she does shes immensely embarrassed

She'll drop incredibly subtle signs that she may want cuddles

And if you ask her she'll become overly enthusiastic and quick to get cozy

Hanayo Koizumi

On the scale of liking cuddles I'd say hanayo is probably in the mid area

Pana here is timid so I think she'd probably be the type to bury her face in something to hide her embarrassment in moments liks this

Be it a pillow, stuffed animal in her your neck or shoulder

Don't get it twisted though, she does actually enjoy them! But poor bby is really shy

I could also see her happy to give in to your wish for cuddles should you ask her, since she also seems to be a bit of the nurturing type

Along with kotori enjoys cuddles in a mountain of pillows and/or stuffed animals

Rin Hoshizora

Rin would certainly be interesting

Rins pretty tomboyish and doesn't know much about things like romance

So she'd probably be rather awkward if she were to ever have cuddles....at least in the beginning!

She'd probably be a bit physically tense (despite not meaning to!)

She's just not used to this sort of thing

But she'll ease and relax up after a while

She'll be a bit embarrassed if you ask her for cuddles, but she'd oblige

Maki Nishikino

Of course, at first maki would rather die than admit if she wants cuddles or affection or anything like that because. Tsun

Also heavily sheltered in her life so she might also be tense for a bit

I think if Nico ever was in a genuine relationship she probably would drop the act (for the most part) around her partner

She's more genuine and caring like she is with her siblings

But she has her needy moments!!

I get the feeling Nico would like cuddles a lot

And ask for them all the time if there was nothing else to do

Just like cuddling up on the couch and watching an idol dvd or something!!

Nozomi would probably openly welcome cuddles!

But if she were asked for them...she'd probably get real smug about it I think

She might threaten washi-washi if you don't give her cuddles if she asks though, so watch out!

But I don't think that would happen often, shes more of the nurturing type who would take care of others...at leas thats what I believe

She's used to being lonely (until Eli and muse, of course)

So any quality or cuddles from her partner would probably be greatly appreciated, regardless of whether she shows it or not

Eli Ayase

Eli would be interesting I think

She tries to keep up a mature and cool image, so she often keeps her more...I guess what she would call embarrassing? Likes and desires to herself

Like chocolate for example

So she probably would really want cuddles often, but be too embarrassed to ask for them or anything

You'd probably have to draw it out of her and let her tell you

But after that it should be a lot easier

She'll be more and more comfortable around her partner so it should be better.

ll! fan stereotypes based on ur best girls - muse edition

most honoka fans i see are usually really really sweet. theyre always into cute lil aesthetics and prolly collect anime figures. there’s a 1 in 5 chance that they also kin her.

every umi fan is SO sweet!! theyre usually super duper nice and they have elite taste. most of the time theyre super laid back and arent super heavy into the franchise though.

kotori fans are .. a two bladed sword. theres the fans that r super nice and probably just like the honoka fans, but theres also the super gross and fans that think they’re such an epic chad. probably in their mid 20′s and think theyre above everyone else.

people that like maki and have her in their favs? usually super chill and nice to talk to. but ppl that have her as their #1? usually a bitch that think their opinions are superior. probably diehard on their ll! ships and a snob when it comes to the game. oh? u cant fc this song? well i can and i even have a recording, im going to send u it to make u feel bad.

hanayo fans are some of the SWEETEST people ive ever met. theyre usually really into the franchise but are super humble about it. they show their support for literally everyone and are always looking to grow the community. we luv hanayo stans.

literally everyone has rin in their favs but i dont meet too many people with her as their #1. the few ive met seem to be really chill in the community and not super into it, but still like to check in once in a while yknow? miss like a thousand daily log ins but its fine lmao

ok. eli stans are really nice, theyre like hanayo stans bc theyre always showing support for others. BUT ELI STANS ARE TERRIFYING. theyre gods at the game, they always aim to tier events and they have team building like ingrained in their mind. they fc the hardest songs with ease and they just smile and go ‘harasho’ its horrifying, i fear them so much.

nozomi stans are usually SUPER laid back which makes me laugh so hard. they have such an eccentric and out there character as their #1 and theyre just ‘yeah i think shes pretty lmao’. theyre usually more game-centered more than the anime? idk. nozomi stans r good.

nico stans are split into 50/50. 50% just think she’s super cute and love her lots, they’re probably just here to have a good time and to appreciate cute girls. the other 50% are absolute beasts. they’ll argue with you on reddit on the most minor things of the community and their evidence dates way back to like the denki g magazines from the beginning or smth idk. theyre terrible tbh.

You know how I did the RFA's best girls? Yeah, well, think about the Idols favorite Routes instead. That's a challenge.

Okay, I was going to wait until the end of Superstar s2, but I'll just add the Liella girls later. I'm impatient. Wheeze.

I'll go by group, then by year, and I'll then smile->cool->pure within each year!

u's

Rin would enjoy Saeyoung's route the most! She loves cats, so Meowy gives his route bonus points, but I think she'd also really enjoy joking back and forth with 707. When Luciel in the apartment turns colder and more secluded... Rin wouldn't give up on him. Rin's best friend since childhood is Hanayo, who is an exceptionally timid girl with a lot of dreams but a lot of doubts. I think Rin would want to stick by Luciel til the end. Also, gender. Rin is highly trans girl coded, and seeing Saeyoung be no biney would be very neat for her.

Maki would unexpectedly enjoy Zen's route. She's someone whose family pushes her towards a prestigious career path of being a doctor, but her true love and passion lie in the arts. She's a musician at heart even if she has a doctor's brain. She'd definitely scold Zen for being too reckless as a teen, but I think she'd find his route therapeutic because she can watch him work hard for his own dreams.

Hanayo would love Jaehee's route. Hanayo was too afraid to follow her dream of becoming an idol until her friends gave her a push. She'd cheer for Jaehee who works so hard but doesn't feel passionate about her work. As soon as Jaehee shows interest in the coffee project, Hanayo would be her biggest fan urging her to pursue her dreams.

Honoka is a dreamer but also a go-getter. In that sense, she'd like Zen's route. He went after his dream without reservations, and she'd admire how he works to make a name for himself. She's also kind of... lacking in the intelligence field, so maybe she'd relate to Zen there.

Umi is no nonsense, so a gut instinct may say Jumin, but she'd feel far too restricted. I think she'd enjoy V's route. Solving mysteries, escaping a cult, getting answers, and freeing an overly self-sacrificing character from the clutches of his own guilt. Umi would probably play one of the OS routes then go "THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WITH V?" She's fixing him. She's pulling his ear and talking sense into him.

Kotori, by contrast, would probably like Jumin's route. She can be strangely possessive herself. She also hates making decisions. But her tender heart would instinctively know which answers could soothe Jumin's troubles and save Elizabeth the 3rd.

Nico is a workaholic who'd also love Jaehee's route. She almost failed in her dream of being an idol, and she'd refuse to let Jaehee give up on choosing a future that made her happy. Nico is honestly super passionate and determined and caring beneath the memes.

Eli is kinning V and really I think that says all that needs to be said.

Nozomi only cares about Rika's Behind Story. Nozomi didn't even want to play until she heard about Jaehee, and then when she saw Rika? Oh, dear. Nozomi is getting the lore and smothering her in affection. Nozomi is gonna either help Rika or make her worse.

Aqours

Hanamaru is going to be a Ray route kind of girl. First of all, since she grew up sheltered in a temple and has little knowledge of modern technology, she would actually hop in a van to a mysterious location because some guy called and asked her to help him. Sob. More importantly, she's a big reader, and she'd fall for the fairy-tale aspect of Ray's route. But she'd be down for the darker parts, too! She's quick to humor fallen angel Yohane, after all. She's surprisingly adaptable.

Yohane might find a weird interest in Jumin. Their autism presents in exact opposite ways: embrace vs. suppress. But I think she'd find him neat. He's intelligent and practical, but he gets caught up in whimsy too. And Yohane did kidnap a dog once.

Ruby isn't playing. She just isn't. Ruby's androphobia would stop her. I'm not even trying to be "oh she's too lesbian" she's literally afraid of men. But she likes hearing Hanamaru and Yohane talk about the game!

Chika is kind of in her coming-of-age story throughout her arc. Finding herself, finding her dream, finding her strength. She'd appreciate Yoosung, who has seen himself as inferior and boring compared to everyone else and desperately wants to be more than that. Chika became an idol because she was chasing a shine in the sky. Yoosung is a shooting star. It works.

Riko likes V route specifically for that one bad ending. You know the one. She's immediately looking for any fanart or doujins.

You is going to adore Jumin. His route may not end up being her favorite from a story perspective, but a character who's diehard loyal to his childhood friend and has been secretly yearning this entire time? She can relate. She will complain when trapped in his penthouse, but she'll also like the aquarium in the background. Pfft.

Mari is going to kin Saeran because she knows what it's like to have an oppressive mother who tries to force her into things and use her as a dress-up doll, a puppet, rather than a person. Mari is eccentric and outgoing and over-the-top at first glance, but she's actually a deeply sentimental person who's scarily dedicated to her goals. Also she'd like Unknown's goth thing. Mari is our heavy metal enthusiast, after all.

Dia is going to be the yin to Mari's yang, as she tends to be. Her favorite route would be Saeyoung's, because she's a devoted older sister and she understands why Saeyoung would go to such extremes for Saeran. I think she secretly embraces his goofy side, too. Dia acts strict and stern, but she's a huge dork beneath it all.

Kanan understands the stress of being torn between duty and passion. She needs to help with the diving shop for her family, but she wants to be an idol at school again. She's self-sacrificing to a fault. So, yeah, she's gonna like V's route. He's torn between his duty to the RFA but his passion for Rika... which, is itself born of his supposed "duty" to his mother by helping a broken young woman all alone. He's complicated. Kanan will like the hug CG.

Nijigasaki

Rina is here for the hacking battles between the twins, whether 707 or Ray route. Ultimately she goes soft for Saeyoung because he makes Meowy and she has canonically made her own Meowy.

Shioriko is gonna like Jumin's route but won't admit it. He's a little too assertive in doing what he thinks is best for MC, and she sees herself in that from before she joined the idol club. They both need a nap and a hug. And therapy.

Shizuku is gonna adore Zen. She's a theater kid! She thinks he's amazing for being true to himself and not hiding! She's writing Zumin enemies to lovers fic though!

Kasumi is going to like Yoosung's route. She's tired of being treated like a baby, tired of being treated as not a good enough club president. But she also prides herself on her cuteness and loves to emphasize it. She's gonna relate to Yoosung a lot.

Ai will love 707 from the start, because he's goofy and she loves bad puns. She loves smiling and having fun. Ai also has a soft heart, and she'll be good about Luciel during the tough days of his route. She'll sympathize with his sorrow, because she felt awful when she thought her sister figure resented her for pursuing a dream and leaving her behind.

Lanzhu is... someone who has always struggled to make friends. And she kind of became a spoiled, isolated tyrant because of it before saved by the power of friendship. I can't believe her favorite "route" is Rika's Behind Story (actually I can).

Setsuna's favorite route is Saeyoung's because she's got masks on masks, too. They both have had to sacrifice their own selves to protect what they love. Also she's super into his cosplay.

Ayumu is DEFINITELY gonna love Ray's route. She'll enjoy the whole route, but she's going to adore Ray in particular because she sees a lot of herself in him. Preparing a fluffy pink room... for the object of his obsession affection... with flowers and floriography sprinkled throughout. Yeah, she's into it.

Kanata is another doting big sister, so Saeyoung for her! She works herself into the ground for Haruka's sake, and she'll empathize with Saeyoung for all he's done for Saeran. Also they both need a nap. Please.

Karin is someone who comes off as cool and mature, but she's actually kind of insecure and has immature moments. I feel like Jumin would be her favorite. Plus she'd understand why he's keeping her there, considering she has an awful sense of direction and needed to be chipped by her friends.

Emma, the sweetest girl, is going to like Jaehee's route. Emma is big on family, and her heart would break for Jaehee who's all alone. Emma traveled all the way from Switzerland to Japan to pursue her dreams, and I know that conviction and huge heart will be cheering for Jaehee all the way.

Mia can't play Another Story because she's only 14. Tragic. Guess her favorite has to be Yoosung. She knows how gifted burnout feels. Yoosung was a spectacular student in high school but now he's lost and stuck. Mia felt stuck and hopeless with her music for a while, too, even while being hailed as a prodigy.

NicoMaki, NozoEli, Love Live, 2.6K 9/?

Summary: Maki is on a mission; Nico is on the job.

Car Culture

Dia was crying. Maki groaned. Why wasn’t Raye...oh, no Raye. With a curse, Maki kicked off her blanket, catapulted out of bed, grabbing a robe to throw on, feet awkwardly groping for slippers. A message blinking on her muted phone. Nico. At 5 a.m.

N: Hope you and Dia have a good day. Nico’s going to be so busy ε= ٩(●❛ö❛)۶

N: But Maki will be so impressed when Nico’s video’s done.

No kiss emoji, no hearts, no...Nico-ness...a wail from Dia. Maki had no time to mope. Or make up. She had a growing, growling, grumpy daughter demanding all her attention.

“Maki, calm down.” Rin leaned back against the arm of her couch, sending her calmest mood at Maki.

“It’s been two and a half days, Rin. Dia doesn’t want to eat anything, keeps asking for Nico, who’s too busy to answer her damn phone, and I CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE LILO AND STITCH.”

Rin could see Maki pacing, kicking the rug that was at the center of the cabin’s main room. Dia was probably napping, like Tora. Maki needed to nap more. “Calm down, Maki. I’ll drive up there. Why are you in Wisconsin anyway? Where’s Raye?”

“Can you watch Dia?” Maki had no volume control. Rin grimaced, rubbing her ear.

“Is that Maki?” Hanayo stuck her head in, “Can you ask her what Nico’s new…”

Rin made a slashing gesture to head off Hanayo’s question. Hanayo pouted. Rin walked to the door, gently pushed Hanayo one step away, and closed the door.

“Maki, are you all right to drive?”

“Of course, I’m all right to drive.”

“But you sound so angry.”

“You’ve known me for more than a decade, Rin. When has anger interfered with anything?”

Rin could check off a huge list of times. But that would not calm Maki down. “So you’re going to see Nico?”

“Yeah, there’s this huge party we got invited to. ” Maki was now moderating her volume.

But Maki’s declaration had kicked Rin into red zone worried mode. “You’re going to a huge party. Because of Nico. Do you know anyone else who’ll be there?”

“Honoka will be there.”

Rin blinked. Maki and Honoka parties were a legendary recipe for disaster. Honoka’s impulsiveness brought out Maki’s idgaf core principle. Mix in alcohol and...

“I just want to talk to someone taller than my knee, Rin.” Maki sounded desperate.

“We’re talking. I’m taller than your knee.” Rin fell back on the couch. This was bad.

Maki’s voice softened. “Please, just watch Dia for me for a couple of days. She really misses Tora.”

“So you’re meeting Nico there?” That wouldn’t be so bad.

“Probably, sure, I don’t know the exact details yet.”

“I’m worried about you, Maki, you sound really upset. And you and Honoka and parties...”

Maki didn’t let Rin go drag out her history. “Rin, just please…”

“What?”

“Take care of my daughter.” Maki was tapping on something, probably unconsciously, Rin could hear the vibrations. “Nico’s upset because my parents sent me to Wisconsin, Nico likes parties, I REALLY miss Nico and…” Maki sounded nervous, Rin knew how reluctant her friend was to discuss anything related to dating and sex, “that disconnect is starting to happen.”

“So meet Nico somewhere and…”

“Rin, I am driving to Chicago, I am changing into a sexy dress, I am going to a party, I am going to down a couple of shots of something, and I am going home with my girlfriend.”

Rin sighed, “We’ll talk when you get here. Just please drive carefully. For me. And Dia.”

“Of course, I will.” Maki exhaled, “Thanks, Rin.”

“I’m your bestie, Maki.”

Maki laughed, “See you soon.”

Rin hoped five hours driving would wear Maki out enough to be reasoned with.

Nico couldn’t slump yet. Fourteen hours on the set, the crew were getting ready for the big stunt, Cocoro was confirming the details of something with the director, and Umi was handing Nico a bottle of electrolyte solution, a bright enough green to wake Nico up.

“Start with that.” Umi frowned, “You don’t want to get sick.”

“Thanks, Umi.”

“When does your tour start?”

“Too soon,” Nico swallowed a cough.

“It is essential to allow yourself a chance to recover physically from the kind of exertion you are experiencing.”

“You’re not my doctor.”

“I’m sure Maki would say the same.”

“She’s not my doctor either. She doesn’t know anything about this kind of day.” Nico chugged the entire bottle.

Umi seemed genuinely puzzled. “If you don’t talk about your work, what do you talk about?”

“Nico doesn’t remember, it’s just kind of a tired sexy blur. Maki’s surprisingly....”

Umi didn’t have to frown. Her entire posture screamed displeasure at Nico’s cavalier comment.

“Sorry. Nico just misses Maki.” Nico tossed the bottle into the recycling barrel, “We’ve been talking about our pasts. Talking about the present gets us to Dia and…”

Nico’s phone pinged. Maki’s ringtone. “Hang on a sec.” Nico switched to full charm mode, Umi didn’t know where she found the energy. “Hey, sexy.”

“Nico, you have to come here, now.” A shrill, panicky voice.

“Who is this? Where’s Maki?”

“In the shower.”

“Who is this?”

Umi was surprised by the anger in Nico’s voice.

“It’s Rin, you know, Maki’s bestie.”

Nico could feel her forehead clench. “Is Maki okay? Is something wrong with Dia? Why are you on her phone.”

“Cause I don’t have your number on mine, duh. You have to come here. Now.”

NIco sagged, leaning against a wall, “Okay, Rin, where do you want Nico to go? Wisconsin?”

“Nah, Maki’s at me and Kayo-chin’s house.”

That was news to Nico. When and why had that happened? Nico sighed. She needed more than electrolytes and sugar to deal with this.

Rin continued. “Maki wants to go to this big party, to meet you, but it’s a Honoka party and whenever Maki goes to a Honoka party in this mood, there’s tequila and…”

“How can Maki meet Nico if Nico isn’t going to the party? Nico is working.” Nico flung out a hand as if to show Rin everything and everyone on the set.

“Oh, she won’t like that.” Rin sounded sad.

“Hang on a sec.” Nico put her hand over the mic, “Was Honoka Maki’s college roommate?”

Umi nodded, “Briefly, why?”

“Just learning some more Maki facts…”

Rin’s loud chirp called Nico’s attention back to her phone. “So you’ll take Maki to the party. I’ll tell Maki I ordered her a ride. It’ll be a good surprise.”

Nico wanted to punch the wall. “Nico can’t pick up Maki. Nico has to finish filming a dance, crash a car, rescue a dangerous damsel, and save the world.”

“But what am I gonna do, Nico?” A whine.

“Tell Maki to skip the party and call me later. For pizza or something, Nico knows a place.” And that was as much help as Rin was getting from Nico. Maki was an adult, she could make her own choices. Nico chose to follow through on her responsibilities.

Call ended, Nico slid the mute button over and tossed her phone into her bag. “And now Nico blows everybody away.”

Umi nodded, already going down her mental checklist for Nico’s upcoming stunt. “Make sure the safety harness is tight. I’ll go over all the fastenings.”

“You’re just fas-cinated by Nico Ni.” Nico bounced into her pose.

Umi stared at Nico, then quirked an eyebrow, “That tired, huh?”

Lowering her hands, Nico giggled, which lightened the weight, “Yeah, I guess so.”

“Is my ride here yet, Rin? Did Dia get to sleep? I still have to dry my hair.” Maki, a towel slung over her head, dressed in a clinging lilac to near black ombre swing dress. Rin grabbed Maki, forcing her into a seat.

“What the hell, Rin?” Pulling off the towel, Maki glared.

Rin had her hands on her hips, her expression serious, finger wagging at Maki’s nose. “You’re grounded, Maki. No parties.”

Maki stood, looming over Rin, staring down at her oldest friend. “I’ll say it again, Rin, what the hell?”

“Nico’s not going to that party. You’re in a foul mood and you’ll just get in trouble. You know how you get.”

“You got really boring.” Maki pushed Rin back.

Rin shook her head, “No. I’m a mom. In a relationship. And so are you. And Nico’s a real person with feelings and a stunt car crash to do…”

Maki pulled Rin back, lifting the shorter woman off her feet, nose to nose, “What do you mean, stunt car crash?”

“Nico said she had to” Rin concentrated, “Crash a car, rescue a girl, save the world.”

Maki dropped Rin and glanced at the nearest clock, it was after 9 p.m. “She’s still working? She stared at 5 a.m.”

“You work crazy shifts.”

“I’m used to it…” Maki tapped Rin on the shoulder, “How do you know so much about Nico?”

“I called her to tell her to take you to the party. And she said she had to crash a car.’ Rin inhaled, her chartreuse eyes determined.“You need to communicate better with Nico if you want a successful relationship like me and Kayo-chin, Maki.”

Maki sagged into the couch, head in her hands. Rin was practicing her parent of a teenager moves and Maki did not appreciate it. “Where is she?”

RIn shrugged.

Maki grabbed her phone, hitting Nico’s number. No reply. Then she tried Cocoro.

“Cocoro Yazawa. Can I help you?”

“This is Maki. Let me talk to Nico.”

“I’m sorry, Dr. Nishikino, my sister left no instructions about being interrupted.”

“Where are you?” Maki felt her jaw clench.

“I’m sorry, Dr. Nishikino, but the set location is secret.”

“Tell me…”

Cocoro’s curt, professional tones cut off Maki’s snapped demand, “I will let Nico Ni know you called, Dr. Nishikino.”

And a ringtone. Maki wanted to throttle Cocoro. But that wouldn’t be any way to make inroads with Nico. Umi, Nico had hired Umi, Umi would...no, Kotori would, Kotori could be persuaded to share information. Umi’s integrity was unbreachable by anyone not Kotori.

“Hey, is Nico coming home tonight?” Nozomi slid next to Eli on the couch, wearing Eli's robe, her hair loose and luxurious.

Eli put down her Atlantic magazine, “I don’t know. Why?”

“I want you to stop pretending you’re mad at me and sleep in my bed.” Nozomi bit at Eli's shoulder.

Eli snorted, “How romantic.”

“I’m not offering romantic.” Nozomi took the magazine out of Eli’s hand, then grabbed Eli’s wrists to pull her closer, green eyes alit with dangerous urges. “You have needs. I have wants. And really really graphic fantasies.” Nozomi’s tongue licked from Eli’s ear to her...

“NOZOMI!”

“Text Nico, tell her to sleep in her own bed. Unless you want her to know that you…”

Eli put both her hands on Nozomi’s face, pulled her beloved, impossible wife in close, and drifted into a slow promise of the deepest of kisses, the only way to stop the avalanche of provocation. Then she grabbed her phone.

Nico winced, her ears still ringing. The boom had blasted through her hearing protection and her head had maybe, maybe contacted the crash foam. She couldn’t exactly remember the sequence of events. The helmet had helped, but pulling it off dramatically had been immediately followed by a wobbly tilt into the car. Nico was now taking a minute, eyes closed, to rest before checking if the world really was spinning.

“NICO!”

The crash must have messed her up, she thought she heard Maki’s voice. Bad enough she’d nearly messed up the timing because she kept wondering if Maki had gone to Tsubasa’s party and how many shots of tequila had she downed. Maybe Nico had been thinking about tequila so much Nico was sympathetic tipsy.

“Nico?”

A hand on Nico’s arm, with a grip that was going to add to Nico’s bruises. Arnica gel, entire tube, maybe Nico could find a sympathetic dancer who had massage skills. Nico opened her eyes. Maki, face flushed, gorgeous eyes weary and worried, a killer ombre shaded dress clinging to curves that made Nico instantly more alert. Maki smiled at Nico, then opened her sling bag and handed Nico a menu.

“Read the prices to me, Nico.”

After a couple of minutes, Nico realized what was odd. “You carry pizza menus around with you?”

“Just read the numbers, Nico.” Maki’s beautiful long fingers traced a pattern on the paper.

Maki had knelt, staring up into Nico’s face. It was all weird. “What kind of a date is this? Quizzes first?”

“It’s a concussion test, Nico. Eye movement is one of the biggest disruptions.”

“You like….” Nico wondered why she’d started that sentence. “Eyes, Nico’s eyes.”

Maki bit her lip, nervous, it was sexy adorable, and Nico would have given up a platinum record to not be feeling nauseous.

Umi appeared next to Maki. “I checked the footage. There was definite head contact. Cocoro’s sending everyone home. I’m glad you’re here, Maki.”

“Nico, can you read me the prices of a couple of appetizers, three pizzas, and a dessert.” Maki’s voice was very calm, but Umi noticed her hands trembling.

“Clever.” Umi whispered.

“Just order whatever you want, Maki.” Nico let the menu drop, “Nico will pay.” Nico leaned back onto the car, Maki and Umi with a quick glance agreed to split and support Nico from either side.

“C’mon Nico, I’m taking you home.” Maki said quietly.

Nico frowned, “Nah, Eli’s right?”

“Are you sure she shouldn’t go to an ER?” Umi pulled her phone out, ready to hit 911.

“I’ll take her if her symptoms worsen.” Maki tapped the car hood, considering. “I want to avoid noise and people.”

“Hey, Sis!” Cocoro raced up, “The director wants to talk to you about tomorrow.”

“Nico won’t be here tomorrow.” Maki snapped.

Cocoro shoved between Maki and Nico, “You have no authority here, Ms. Nishikino. Nico handles everything.”

Maki spoke deliberately. “There is a high likelihood that Nico has a concussion. She will need to recover before she does anything else.”

Nico smiled and hugged her sister, “Hey, Cocoro! Where’s the car?”

“We can still shoot some of the background scenes tomorrow, Cocoro, if I remember the storyboard correctly. I’ll help you figure out who we need.” Umi pulled Cocoro to the side, trusting Maki to support Nico.

“But Tsubasa’s scheduled…”

“Tsubasa…” Nico raspberried, “can go away.”

“Is there a problem with her cameo? Cocoro sounded concerned.

“The problem is your sister has a concussion.” Maki put her arm around Nico’s waist, Nico leaned in to her, “I’m taking her home.”

“To your place?” Cocoro relaxed, “Good. Eli called me, Nico. She said she needed some wife time.”

Nico didn’t appear to be listening.

Maki did not want to deal with her parents. “We’ll just go to her house. I know the address.”

Cocoro frowned, “But there’ll be…”

Umi decided the matter, “That’s a good idea, Maki. Nico gets dropped off sometimes on the block behind and sneaks through her neighbor’s backyard. I suggest that.”

“Okay.” Maki kept careful watch of Nico, “Text me the address.”

“I’ll drive you. They’ll be watching for your car.”

“This one’s got Wisconsin plates. No one’s seen it.” Maki pulled a beanie out of her bag and pulled it over her red hair. She handed another one to Nico, “Let’s be spies.”

Nico stared at the hat, as if unsure what to do with it. Cocoro, after a glance at Maki, stepped forward and pulled it over Nico’s carefully coiffed apocalypse hair. “Dr. Nishikino’s gonna take good care of you, sis.”

“Nico doesn’t need a doctor.” Grumpy, hunched Nico detached from Maki to lean against the car.

“All right, Nico, I won’t be just a doctor.” Maki blinked, feeling tears in the corner of her eyes, “But buy me that pizza. For our date.”

Nico nodded, “Okay.”

“Let’s go pick it up.”

Nico stood, Maki offered her hand, Nico reached for it, missing the first time, “I’ll drive.”

Maki hummed.
