Word Count: 3.1 k

Calum gently pushed Claudia against the mattress, getting in a more comfortable position as they devoured each other. With one hand balancing himself, so he wouldn't squish Claudia, he used the other to unbutton the flannel she wore. He slid his hand inside her shirt and gave her breast soft squeeze before sliding down to her soaked-through panties.
Frustrated with his teasing touches, Claudia tried to roll him onto the mattress. But he wouldn't budge.
"Cal," She whined against his lips, jutting her hips against his to feel some sort of relief.
"Pretty girl, I know, but your parents are across the hall." Calum mumbled before kissing down her neck.
"It's been three weeks. Please," She sighed. "I'll be quiet."
"Fine, but you have to be quiet. For our sake." She eagerly nodded at him before he continued. "I'm only going to eat you out okay?"
"But—"
"Later okay? When we get to our house, you can have your way with me. I promise." He held out his pinky to her.
"Okay." She pouted, wrapping her pinky around his.
Calum sat on his knees and slipped off his shirt. He tossed it to the side before towering over her once more. A giggle escaped Claudia when he sponged kisses all over her face.
Having enough of his teasing, she pulled his lips back to hers. She wrapped her leg over his waist, helping her stay balanced as she grinded herself against him. Claudia was basking in having the upper hand that she didn't feel Calum's fingers slip in her panties.
He skillfully slipped his ring and middle fingers in her, causing her to loudly gasp and stop all her moments.
"What's wrong, pretty girl?" He whispered in her ear, making her whine. “Want these off?” Calum asked her, toying with the waistband of her panties.
“Please.” She nodded eagerly. He gently patted her ass so she could lift her hips up.
Once Calum slipped her panties off, he situated himself in front of her core. “All this for me pretty girl?” Calum asked. He placed soft kisses on the insides of her thighs. She squirmed at the feeling of his lips. They got closer and closer to where she needed him the most.
She let out an inaudible gasp of pleasure when Calum licked her. She tried closing her legs, but Calum’s grip on them kept her in place. He softly moaned at her taste and savored her, taking his time with his tongue. He pushed one of her legs to her chest, giving him better access to her.
He inserted another while he pressed his thumb on her clit. Claudia felt something build up in her. She felt pleasantly overwhelmed with Calum’s fingers and tongue. Calum felt it too. He sped up his fingers and circled his thumb on her clit roughly.
She moaned out, not caring who heard her, but he grabbed a pillow and covered her face. Calum lapped up her release. He dropped her legs down and laid next to her.
“Happy album release day,” Claudia whispered excitedly after catching her breath.
He grumbled his response, making her giggle. He rolled to his side and traced his thumb under her bottom lip, giving her a quick peck. He got up to the bathroom to finish himself off, but Claudia had other ideas.
“No, let me,” Claudia said. She sat up and pulled him back by the waistband of his boxers. She brightly up at him, with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Se me antoja un chorizo.”
“The kitchen is downstairs, Claudia.” He told her prying her hands off him.
“Cal, please let me suck your dick.” She fake cried.
“No, go get ready. We were supposed to be on the road by now. But someone doesn’t know how to keep her hands to herself.” He said before closing her bathroom door. He popped his head out once more. “You better be ready when I’m done.”
***
Calum watched Claudia skip down the steps of Ashton's house when it finally hit him. The last he saw her wear the dress she currently wore was when they went to Coachella the year before. It was probably his favorite dress on her, even if he's only seen her in it once.
"That's the last of them." Claudia said sliding onto the passenger seat. She has baked 'CALM' cakes for the guys in their favorite flavors along with sugar cookies shaped in their initials and in their instruments.
She took off her mask and reached for her now watered down iced coffee. She made a face and set it down in the cup holder. "This is nasty. I fucking hate almondmilk." she mumbled before taking another sip.
"Why are you still drinking it?"
"I have to finish it. It was like five bucks."
Calum shook his head, hiding his smile. He reached for his army green Hydro Flask and took a long sip of water. He capped it and started the car. Pulling the car into reverse, he gripped Claudia's head rest a little tighter as he felt her gaze on him. As he got out of the spot, he watched Claudia shift around in her seat.
"You really have a parallel parking kink." Calum laughed as they left Ashton's neighborhood.
"I do not." Claudia scoffed, crossing her arms.
"Keep telling yourself that. Your tits don't lie." He said, pinching one of her nipples. She smacked his hand away as he checked that there weren't any cars before turning into the main road.
"The AC isn't even on so can't say you're cold."
"Whatever."
Calum shook his head and drove to the nearest Target. When they got there, Claudia grabbed a homemade disinfectant wipe from her bag and cleaned their cart. They went straight to the electronics section so Calum could get a record player for the live stream later in the evening. The needle broke in the one he had and since Ashton demanded that they play the album in vinyls, he had to get a new record player.
Claudia took the cart after he placed the record player in the shopping cart. She still felt awkward shopping for pads in front of him. They agreed to meet in the alcohol aisle after she hopefully found some pads. Tampons weren't an option. Pandemic or not, the only thing she was having inside of her was Calum.
“They may not have toilet paper but least they have White Claws.” Calum told Claudia as two boxes, one of only black cherry flavor and the other variety pack because Claudia only drank tangerine flavor.
"I managed to get one thing of pads, so it's something." She told him, covering the pads with the other groceries. "I'm just lucky my period ended last week. I have a month to worry about getting more. You have dog food right? Because there's none in the aisles."
"Yeah, bought some when we got back from Medelyn's baby shower, water and toilet paper too." He nodded his head over to the shopping cart. "Is that everything? And what your parents needed too?"
Claudia looked over their shopping cart. It wasn't much but it was enough since the stores set limits on how much to buy because of the lack of ability to restock.
"I think we're good. If we need something we can drive back and steal from Ashton's garden." she joked.
While they waited in line, Claudia thought about how quick her life changed in less than two weeks. Her landlord practically kicked her, Dulce and Sara out and wanted them out by the time spring break started because of mandatory stay at home orders. She was lucky though. Calum took her in and for the meantime she was going to live with him. Though just last week Diego told her to come home. It took her a lot of convincing, but Calum ended up going with her too.
"Your total is $132.76." the cashier told them.
Claudia was barely pulling out her card as Calum scanned his phone in front of the pin pad. He thanked them and nodded Claudia to keep up.
"We agreed that I was going to pay groceries since you don't let me pay for anything else." She told him as he put the groceries in his car.
"I didn't agree to shit." He furrowed an eyebrow.
"Yuh-huh you nodded and waved me off."
He stayed silent, trying to remember if he did. Then it hit him. "Was it when we ordered Mikko's? Because I thought you meant you were paying for that."
"Of course you did, your cheap ass doesn't pay for sushi." she mumbled to herself. "Well I'm paying for groceries from now on."
"I don't like it when you spend money for us when I can pay for them. Especially now that we're both basically jobless. You need that money for school, Claudia." Calum said as they pulled up to the In-N-Out drive thru across the street from Target.
"And I don't like you paying for things that I can afford too." She argued back, but Calum ignored her since he was ordering their lunch.
He had his card ready to pay so there was no way that he was going to let her pay. When he reached the window the computer crashed and they were only accepting cash. Claudia pulled out a twenty, knowing that Calum never carries cash on him unless they're outside of California. He begrudgingly took it and gave it to the cashier.
***
Claudia considered herself a patient person. An elderly person taking their time in front of the ATM, no problem. Her getting cut in line at Starbucks because she was answering a text from Calum and not paying attention to the line, not an issue. Where she did lose her patience was when she would get stuck in traffic.
“The San Ysidro border is faster than this.” Claudia groaned, dropping in her seat after poking her head out of the sun roof.
“Well we would have avoided traffic if someone didn’t need to go back our place to get a fucking coloring book.” Calum muttered under his breath.
He had enough of her complaining. Ever since he got on the I5, that’s all she’s been doing. They’ve been stuck for over four hours and it was just her mumbling over and over how she would rather be waiting to cross the border than be stuck in the freeway. Even Claudia during her period was less irritable than this. Before she could get a word in, he turned up the volume on the true crime podcast they were listening to.
Ironically it was about a couple where the girlfriend murdered her boyfriend and disposed of his body by a lake in the very same freeway they were on.
Calum glanced over to Claudia. She was curled up, leaning against the window playing tetris on her phone. He rotated his neck and hands in hopes that he loosened up, but nothing worked. He knew he shouldn't have said that to her. It wasn't her fault that there was traffic.
"Cal…" Claudia said quietly, reaching down to lower the volume.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't be getting all irritated when I was the one who suggested that you take me back to your house. Because of me we're stuck in traffic and—"
"Claudia, you have nothing to apologize for. You're not the one who caused the traffic. If someone should be apologizing, it should be me. I'm just stressed out because of the album dropping tonight and I'm taking my nerves out on you. So I'm sorry for being a fucking cunt."
"Apology accepted." she giggled.
Claudia leaned over the center console and kissed his cheek. Slowly, she descended down to his neck And sucked under his jaw, making him jerk the car.
"Ashton needs me alive for at least tonight." Calum said, gently prying her off of him. He adjusted his shorts and looked toward the road.
Not even five minutes later, Claudia was toying with a loose string on Calum's shorts. Her hand occasionally bumped into his crotch. Wordlessly she unbuckled her seatbelt and tried reaching for her purse in the backseat. It gave Calum a great view of the nude lace panties she wore.
Before he tried anything, she sat back down and pulled out some nail clippers. Claudia bent over the center console once more and clipped the string with them. She rubbed his thigh and laid her head in the console. Her fingertips deftly smoothed down his leg hairs.
"What are your thoughts on road head?" Claudia asked. She tiptoed her fingers up his thigh, slowly inching to semi hard on.
"I don't know, never thought about it." He answered her, swallowing hard with his gaze glued on the road.
"Really? Like you never thought of me choking on your dick while you're driving?" She pushed herself up from the console and sat criss-cross applesauce. "I have. The thought of you guiding my mouth over your dick surrounded by other cars, clueless to what we're doing. All I have to say is thank fuck for your tinted windows."
He watched from the corner of his eye. She had pulled down her dress, exposing her breasts and her panties were on the dash. One of her hands disappeared under her dress while the other was tweaking her nipples. She whimpered Calum's name loudly as her fingers sped up.
Calum pulled her hand away and licked her fingers cleaned. He slipped his and continued where she left off. With one hand on the steering wheel he brought her to her orgasm. Her hips chased his fingers as he stopped thrusting them in her and only rubbed her clit. Once her high relaxed, he slipped his fingers out of her and licked them.
He pumped a quarter size amount of hand sanitizer in his hand, cleaning his hands, and kept driving.
He looked over to Claudia and smirked. "Thank fuck for tinted windows, huh Claudia."
***
Claudia was bundled up in her room so she wouldn’t disrupt Calum during the livestream. She went downstairs to get her water and a snack after hearing 'Not in the Same Way.' She bumped into Calum in the kitchen, who was getting another White Claw.
"Hey," she said kissing his cheek.
"Miss you." Calum said in between kisses.
Before she said anything, Michael's yelling that he was a pickle echoed through the kitchen. Calum gave her a look and went back to the living room. Duke tried getting on the couch but failed.
"I leave for a fucking second and you're a fucking pickle." Calum said, trying his best not to laugh.
He picked up Duke and sat him in his lap. Panchito wandered over and hopped on the couch and used Duke's bed as a pillow.
"Uh… this is Panchito. He's the Santos' family dog." Calum said introducing the blue heeler puppy to the 40 thousand people watching. "He's about four months old and just sleeps all day with Duke."
The livestream went on until Michael's phone died and Calum continued with Luke. But just before Michael signed off, he thanked Claudia for making the CALM cakes and cookies. Calum struggled a bit to get Luke connected, but he managed once Claudia hopped in and showed him how. He gave her a sheepish thank you and watched her curl up on the opposite end of the couch.
At some point during Calum and Luke's segment, they strayed off their music and discussed cake flavors. When Claudia heard Luke say that he's not a big fan of red velvet cake, she bit back her comment about Luke eating a few slices of red velvet cake at Calum's birthday party the year before. If Claudia knew how to do one thing, that's bake a good red velvet cake.
By the time Calum finished the livestream and his phone call with Luke, Claudia had fallen asleep. He signaled the dogs to follow him outside so they can do their nightly business before going to bed. He guided them back to their respective kennels and secured the doors, so they couldn't escape to go ruin Soni's plants.
"Claudia," Calum said softly. He gently nudged her awake. "Let's go upstairs."
"Fuck, did I fall asleep?" she asked, rubbing her eyes.
"Yeah, surprisingly since you took about four naps today." he teased her.
"Oh shush." she grumbled, folding the blanket she covered herself with.
They quietly went to the guest room where Calum was sleeping to watch a movie. Not even fifteen minutes into the movie, Claudia and Calum were devouring each other. Her hand lazily stroked his length through his sweats as Calum's hands ran over her thighs and ass.
"We should get on the floor, the bed squeaks too much." Claudia said when pulled away from Calum to take off her hoodie.
She got off from the bed and grabbed a duvet from the closet and laid it on the floor. She grabbed some of the decorative pillows and arranged them neatly so they could lay on them. Calum followed suit and shedded off his sweater and sweatpants. He laid back on the duvet and took in Claudia. She sat in his lap in nothing but a light grey bralette and matching panties she got at Aerie. It wasn't an overall sexy set, but it still sent him spiralling.
She leaned down and captured Calum's lips with hers. He let out an incoherent grumble as Claudia rocked her hips against his cock. He slowly inched his hands up her thighs, feeling his way around until he found her ass. He roughly gripped her ass and began guiding her along his clothed cock.
“Can you fucking wait?” Claudia giggled, pulling away from his lips. She sat back up on his lap and took off her bralette. “I wanna take care of you.”
“I don’t want you to.” He said.
“You better remember that the next time you get a stomach ache for eating too many chilaquiles.”
Claudia drummed his chest and got up from the floor. She reached for Calum’s hoodie and tied her hair in a bun.
“Where are you going?” Calum asked her confused.
“You don’t want my help, so I don’t see what I’m doing here.” She shrugged.
She grabbed her phone from the nightstand and gave him a small salute before leaving his room. She waited outside, knowing he was going to go after her. A few seconds later he opened the door and pulled her inside.
“I’m kidding, I need you.” Calum said peppering kisses all over her face.
“That’s what I thought.” She said, triumphantly. She got down on her knees and tugged down Calum’s sweats. She licked her lips and looked up at him. “Now let me show you how proud I am of your album.”
“What would you rank it?”
“Definitely one of your top four.”

heatwave
Prompt: no prompt, just stay hydrated bbys.  this is me projecting the fear from the first time i passed out onto Janis, ft my dumb thought process of 'im fine'. Yes, that's right. I too, refuse to ask for help when I need it. Not just Janis. whoops. G/T MEAN GIRLS AU
The tiny portion of the school doesn't have AC. Which to be honest shouldn't be legal, but a lot of things at Northshore shouldn't be legal. No proper heating or cooling was the least of the tiny's issues.
When it's too cold, you wear a jacket. (Or skip and stay with Damian). When it's too hot, the tiny teachers bring in electric fans for their classrooms. Besides, the tinies only have like- four periods in the walls.
But it does become an issue during a heatwave.
It was almost 100 degrees in Northshore. There was no wind so the air felt stale and dry. Now imagine being in a wall.
I think I'm being cooked alive. The baggy jacket I live in probably doesn't help much though.
It was global, my last tiny class of the day. Aaron and I had advanced global together while Regina had normal global in the room next door.
I slumped in my chair not listening to the teacher at all.
Aaron and I sat together in the front of the room and the only pro to that was the fan was right there.
Not that it did much.
It was old and moved slow. It wasn't cooling anyone, just circulating the hot air.
I finished my water bottle three periods ago and I still had a headache. It wasn't awful, just annoying.
I tried to ignore the little spots in the corner of my eyes every time I moved my head.
Just a small headache.
Suddenly, the breeze disappears.
The fucking fan died.
"Oh, dear." My teacher says.
She a short old lady with circle glasses on the bridge of her nose.
"Oh, dear is an understatement," I mumble to Aaron who just shakes his head.
Our teacher tries to turn on the fan, but there's no sign of life. She even unplugs the wire and tries again.
"I guess it's fried." She says with a small laugh.
"So are we!" Some kid calls from the back of the class. I think its Glen Coco but I don't have enough energy to turn around and check as the rest of the class laughs.
Our teacher smiles warmly. "We've got ten minutes left in the period. Go hang out in the tiny cafeteria or something."
The tiny cafeteria is one of the few places in the school with AC for tinies. Which is nice because it's bearly bigger than a classroom, but they expect to fit all of us in it. It gets crowded and hot even with air conditioning.
Our teacher continues. "Just get somewhere cool. And drink water!"
Water sounded nice. I should have brought more than one bottle. I knew it'd be hot today.
Aaron ad I pack up our bags before standing. The world spins a bit but it feels just like my typical low iron issue.
The spots fade just like normal when I stand up too quickly and Aaron and I are off.
We pull Regina out of her class early saying 'it's for a class project'. The teacher didn't ask what class so we didn't specify.
"So," Regina says. "How did you guys get out of class?"
"Our teacher let us," Aaron explains as we walk through the halls. We're in the very back of the tiny section, furthest away from the tiny pick up zone. "Her fan died."
"No!" Regina said with genuine concern.
"Yeah, but she didn't make us stay long," I explained. My throat was dry and my voice sounded weird, but neither friends paid mind to it.
I tried to ignore the way the hallways spun. My limbs felt slow and heavy despite how fast I walked to keep up with Aaron and Regina.
"Let's stop and grab food at the cafeteria. I'm starving and we have time." Regina said grabbing both Aaron and I's wrists and dragging us in the opposite direction from the air conditions hallways.
No!
Food was the last thing I wanted right now. Just the thought of it made me sick. I wanted water, not salty cheese fries.
I watched the ground as we walked. The hallways were empty but Regina stopped us to look at one of the message boards.
"Janis, the theater performance is next week?"
"Yeah," I say without looking up. The world spun each time I moved my head. "Damian's got lead."
"Of course he does." Regina said.
She and Aaron continued talking but I didn't contribute to the conversation.
I guess I need water more then I realized.
The spots in my eyes covered my whole vision.
It went from a small headache to the end of the world real fast.
I couldn't tell if my eyes were opened or closed. It was all a grey swarm.
"I think I'm gonna pass out." I whispered.
Aaron and Regina didn't pay any mind.
"Guys." I spoke louder.
Was I even audible? No matter how loud I tried to speak it never came out in more than a mumble.
My legs felt heavy and weak at the same time. Like my knees would give at any second.
"Guys." I repeat myself.
I can't even hear Aaron and Regina talking over the buzz in my ear. My head felt heavy and I could feel every time it tipped in the slightest.
My vision was totally replaced by spots and I couldn't see anything.
My throat was so dry it felt like it was closing as I tried to speak.
I need water. Fuck. I need water.
-
"....anis."
I could see it again, but my brain wasn't processing. Aaron was in front of me. His mouth was moving but I don't know what he's saying.
I'm on the floor leaning against someone.
It's too hot for that.
I try and sit up but arms wrap around me, pulling me back down. I don't fight it as spots appear in my vision again.
A water bottle is handed to me.
I bring it to my lips without question.
My brain still isn't working.
The person behind me is slipping my jacket off my arms. I try and fight it.
My jacket is like my comfort blanket. I can't take it off. I can't-
"Janis, please."
Regina.
It was Regina.
I place the empty water bottle next to me and let my jacket get stripped off.
I never drink a full water bottle in one sitting.
Yet I still felt thirsty.
"You okay?" Aaron asks as I push myself out of Regina's lap. "You passed out for a second. You just crumpled. We were worried. You-"
"Aaron," Regina says sternly. "For god's sake she just passed out, let her breath."
"You need more water?" Aaron asked.
"Yeah." I say softly.
"I'll go swing by the cafeteria," Aaron says getting his bag and standing up.
"Look," Regina joked as Aaron turned the corner. "You broke him."
"Sorry."
"Don't be sorry," Regina says turning me so we're both leaning against the wall. "It's hot as fuck out. I'm not surprised it happened. You just get a little nervous when your friend just drops to the ground."
I nod. The ringing in my head had gone away but my mouth still felt dry. Regina held my jacket folded over her arms.
"You fell into me when you passed out." Regina laughed. "Almost took me down with you."
My face flushed with embarrassment. "Whoops."
There were footsteps as Aaron can back. "I bought three, I figured we all need water."
"Thanks, man." I say reaching into my bag to grab my wallet.
"No. No, it's fine." Aaron said pushing my hand away from my bag and tossing both Regina and I a bottle.
"You sure?" Regina asked.
"Yeah." Aaron nods. "Feel better Janis?"
I nod, slipping the water. It was ice cold and made me feel a lot better. I still felt nauseous and a bit dizzy, but not like I would pass out. "I don't think I trust myself to get up yet," I say, leaning against the wall.
"You'd feel better in the AC." Regina points out.
I nod but make no effort to get up. Regina reaches over and presses her cold waterbottle against my forehead.
"If I catch you wearing a jacket in a heatwave again you can catch my hands." She says, but she doesn't sound very threatening.
Aaron hums an agreement as the bell rings.
Students walk past us but nobody pays us much mind. Everyone wants to get to ac as soon as possible.
"We need to call Damian" Regina says.
"Or- oh I dunno....her mom" Aaron says, glaring up at Regina.
"Yeah we can do that too, but how the fuck is Janis gonna get home? Walk?"
"We should call her mom first. I know I'd wanna know if my kid passed out."
"You have a kid?" I laugh.
"This is a hypothetical situation," Aaron says.
"But this-" Regina points to me. "-isnt hypothtical. If Karen or Gretchen passed out, I'd wanna fucking know. They're my giants."
"Guys," I groan, looking up to the ceiling. "We can do both. Regina, you know my phone password, don't call my mom because she's at work but text her."
Aaron and Regina glare at each other momentarily without moving. I clear my throat and Regina breaks her gaze to reach for my phone. Aaron picks up his phone and begins dialing.
I can't hear the other line but it doesn't take long for Aaron to start talking.
"Hey, Damian. You think you can meet us at the tiny pick up? Regina, Janis, and I. Janis needs a ride home." He paused. "Yeah, she's fine now...she passed out- wait no- Damian she's fine. It wasn't like- No, dude. She-"
Regina and I laugh as Aaron tried to explain what happened.
"She just fell, she's fine now- no- shes oka- Damian!"
"Poor Aaron." Regina chuckled.
"Damian, Aaron rolled his eyes. "Do you want to talk to her?"
I lower my hand from my mouth where I was trying to hide my laughter as Aaron passed the phone.
"Janis?!"
"Hey, dude." I can't help but laugh. The panic Aaron had when I first passed out seemed tenfold from Damian over the line. "I'm tits, man. Just overheated a bit."
"Were you wearing your jacket?"
"I was."
"Janis!"
"Not anymore, I'm not!"
There's hushed speaking on the other line. "Cady says it's stupid of you."
"Tell Cady she's stupid."
"That would be a lie." Aaron points out. He can't hear Damian, he just decided his input was necessary. It wasn't.
"Met us at the pick-up zone, okay?" Damian asks.
"Yeah," I say. "Love you."
"Love you too."
The line clicks and I pass the phone back to Aaron. Regina is still texting on mine so I stand up to look ever her shoulder. My mom seems a lot more chill about it then Damian was. I told her not to wear a jacket. I don't even think she needs to leave school but just send her home and we can talk later. Glad she's okay.
"What does everyone have against my jacket?"
"It's hot as fuck, Janis." Regina deadpans.
Aaron takes my bag from me. "Let's go."
"I can carry my bag-" I try to protest.
"Nu-uh. Aaron, you hand Janis her bag back and I'll push you off the platform." Regina interrupts me.
I finish off my water as Aaron chuckles. "What's with you and pushing people from high places, Gina?"
Regina shrugged, my jacket still in her arms. "It's fun. Besides, you think one of us would really get hurt? With the people we're friends with?"
"True." I point out.
As we get closer to the tiny exist I can feel the ac already. Damian and Cady are already at the platform, Damian looking incredibly stressed. I throw up jazz hands the second he sees me.
"I'm all good!"
"Getting calls like that never fail to scare me," Damian says with a worried smile. "Glad you're okay."
Aaron hands me my bag and Regina draped my jacket over my shoulders as I walk over to Damian.
The first thing he does is lift the jacket off of me and glare at Regina who laughs, raising her hands in defense.
Damian scoops me up, letting me fall backward into his hand. I don't even bother to sit up as he pulls his hand close to his chest. The ceiling lights were bright, but I'd rather see that then grey spots.
"I'm gonna get this reckless girl home."
I can head Aaron and Regina faintly say goodbye over Cady's bye.
I prop myself up on my forearms as Damian begins walking. "What are we gonna do with you, Janis?" He asks.
I shrug forgetting he can't see. "I'm tired."
"Wouldn't be surprised silly."
He gets us both checked out at the office. Tinies passing out during a heatwave isn't an uncommon occurrence and I'm not even the first today. They don't question it and let us leave.
I already feel a lot better by the time Damian makes it to his car. Mom was right and I definitely could have stayed in school. But hey, an excuse for nap time is an excuse for nap time. Especially during a heatwave when I can lay in my bedroom with a fucking ac.
Fun fact, the first time I passed out I was at an airplane show during a heatwave. The blacktop made everything hotter than normal and it was like 110 degrees. I- like Janis, almost pulled my friend down with me. I don't remember half the shit after I passed out bc my brain was like- viewing everything but not processing it. What I do remember is downing three water bottles on the spot and being like- Holy Shit. Bc, i cant even drink half a water bottle in one sitting.            After a couple of weeks, it was nearing the end of November and Annie had secured herself as the stereotypical theater kid. Constantly listening to showtunes and memorizing monologues faster than she could memorize equations. She started to move up the metaphorical food chain, gaining the respect of a few of the people in the theater class. Mainly the girls who sang in lower vocal registers. It was like the girls that shared choir and theater could smell another soprano from a mile away. They didn’t outright say anything rude to the newer girl, but they would seem to leave her out of anything they talked about during breaks. So Annie found herself finding friends in some of the alto section instead.
Outside of the world of theater and singing, she had found some form of friendship with Spider-Man. Well, it was more of a frenemy relationship. They were both on the same side, but they had completely different ways of solving problems. The conflicting ideas sometimes got to be a bit much, but they often ended up finding a way to compromise. Especially after the other hero had managed to talk Tina into working with them on the case. Not to mention the solid friendship she had with Peter and Ned along with the interesting friendship she’d acquired with Michelle.
“Holy shit! You guys, did you see what he spring musical’s gonna be?” Annie asked, practically slamming her books on the lunch table as she grinned at the two boys sitting across from her.
Ned shrugged, unwrapping his sandwich, “What about it?”
“It’s West Side Story and auditions are right before winter break,” she replied, a mischievous glint in her brown eyes.
Peter gave a look, thinking he was catching on to why Annie was telling them, “And you’re going to audition, right? That’s one of the musicals you keep listening to and tearing up about.”
“Well, no shit, Sherlock, it’s super sad and of course I’m auditioning! But I want you both to audition too! Oh, come on you guys, it’ll be fun!” Annie pleaded, batting her eyes as she sat down and pulled out her lunch.
“I mean, as much as I would like to I have the-” Peter was cut off.
“Stark internship, I know. However, Pete, having multiple things on your resume looks better though, it makes you seem rounded,” she replied insistently as she opened a bad of potato chips.
Ned laughed, “You know what? Fuck it, I’m in, it could be fun. But I’m not too sure about what they’ll think of my voice.”
“Oh please, you were doing that off-key stuff on purpose and you know it,” Annie stated as she popped a chip in her mouth.
Peter frowned, “W-well why can’t I just be a techie person instead?”
“Because I heard you singing when we were all watching Aladdin last weekend. You could easily get the lead,” Annie responded before leaning forward, “Please? I don’t wanna do this alone, but either way I definitely have to do this.”
Ned shrugged, “It would be fun. Come on Peter, you can pull some strings, can’t you?”
“I’ll think about it,” Peter relented, running a hand through his hair as he appeared to be thinking about something.
Annie ran to the other side of the table to hug Peter, “Great! I can help both of you come up with the perfect audition material. All you guys have to do is practice singing it, I promise!”
After lunch, the day consisted of Annie going through all the music on her phone. Along with her constantly bugging Peter and Ned about audition song ideas. Then she was worrying about what she was going to sing. The songs needed to be nice enough, but not overused at the same time. She was positive that if Ms. Beauregard heard one of the girls sing “Popular” one more time in her class that she was going to scream. Granted, Annie felt the same way after having heard every other girl use that damn song for an audition when she was in Seattle. Annie worried about the audition so much that she forgot about the other, much more important issues she was dealing with. Issues that included going and attempting to get Tina to finally say something that could help herself and Spider-Man to find out who was running that trafficking ring.
Well, it wasn’t that she forgot about Tina, it was for the best for Annie to have something else to focus her energy on. If she let herself stay up another moment worrying about what happened to Tina, she would probably never get any sleep. Then she would just be useless all the way around. Granted, Annie had been getting a minimal amount of sleep even with her and Spider-Man insisting on not working with Tina every single day. She wasn’t supposed to work on it, but that didn’t mean Annie didn’t feel her hands grow a little clammy whenever she thought about the night she found Tina.
Truth be told, Annie had been trying to come up with plans and ideas. It was a no brainer for her, all those girls could be her age or younger didn’t get to sleep easily. Why should she? Besides, coffee was just the perfect fix for a bit of sleep deprivation. Albeit it was probably irresponsible and definitely terrible for Annie to go out stopping crime and go to school and stay up until two in the morning. It was a wonder she hadn’t gotten a cold yet, especially when all her suit consisted of was a hoodie and a pair of leggings. Though she started putting more shirts underneath the hoodie to keep warm. She needed to get that new suit as soon as possible.
Although, the change of her mental energy was welcome, it was clearly obvious that Annie had to be fixated on something. It was even more noticeable when someone could just look over her shoulder to see three lists with all kinds of colors on the paper, some things crossed out. People probably thought she was being obsessive, and they wouldn’t have been wrong. Though, that never worried Annie or her parents, she’d always had phases where she went a million miles a minute.
By the end of the day, Annie had only been able to find Peter, it seemed that Ned had left early for a doctor’s appointment. Which meant that Peter was going to end up listening to Annie talking his ear off about musicals while they worked on physics homework in the library. Of course, Annie wasn’t sure if she was bothering him or not, but she continued talking anyways. If he wasn’t stopping her, Annie assumed that her constant rambling wasn’t aggravating him.
“Come on, just listen to them, all those musicals are on Netflix,” Annie begged as they were putting their books back into their bags.
Peter shook his head and sighed as he glanced at the multicolored mess that was Annie’s list, “You know I don’t have time for that.”
“But, Pete, you could do so good! At least listen to the soundtracks, that’s all you really need to do,” she continued before adding, “Besides, if you can find time to have Star Wars marathons, you can find time to watch a couple.”
He shrugged a bit, “I’ll see, I’m not sure what’s going on with my internship tonight. And Star Wars nights are untouchable, and you know that.”
They had been staying after school to help Annie with physics for the last couple of weeks. Annie managed to prove that she wasn’t completely hopeless at the subject, she just needed a different way of looking at the problems. Though there was still a long way for her to go. With Midtown being a science school, she needed to ace those physics tests in order to be competitive in academics. At least, that was the excuse she gave for caring about the subject so much. In reality, Annie could have passed the class on her own, but she wanted to know more so she could eventually understand her powers better. Although, getting the chance to hang out with Peter was an added bonus.
Thankfully, Peter didn’t seem to mind. He would always be the one to end the sessions. After that, he would walk Annie home, him joking that she would probably get lost again. She didn’t stop him, though, she knew that being a girl and walking home later in the day was rather risky. Then, Annie would suit up and meet Spider-Man at the same place that they dropped Tina off. It was their only lead with the trafficking ordeal, but Tina was rarely any kind of help.
The lack of help confused Annie, and she could tell that it confused Spider-Man as well. She wouldn’t let up on who her real family was or where she’d come from. It was impossible for Annie to understand, but she knew that she would never truly understand Tina. There was no way to truly understand the things she went through. Especially when she wasn’t always clear about what she did when talking to the heroes.
Tina had let up on a few things. Things like how the pimp had gotten the black-haired girl started on heroin. How Tina had been moved from Nevada to New York due to demand. She never had anyone to help get her out. All Tina could do was lose herself in her clients. At least, that was the way she had put it. Annie felt pangs of hurt, wishing that she had somehow been able to be there and help Tina before everything had gotten as bad as it was. Even though she knew that it would have only meant Annie would have found a different girl in the alley that night.
It turned out that Tina was seventeen. An age so close to Annie’s that in left knots tightening in her stomach. Had Annie ever been close to ending up in Tina’s situation before? The thought quickly left her mind, knowing that it would have done nothing more than keep Annie awake in the middle of the night. Still, despite how cruel the pimp was, Tina refused to give up the man’s identity. Neither Annie nor Spider-Man could understand why that was. In her mind, it almost sounded as if Tina were in love with the guy. Maybe it was a depressing form of Stolkholm Syndrome, but that didn’t make it any less complicated.
Point blank, there wasn’t much of a case. Tina had yet to give away any information that could lead anywhere. Perhaps that was the point, making the pair of heroes feel like they knew something. Though, when both of them looked back on it, they only knew the nature of the situation. Until that particular day when Tina gave the slightest lead that Annie had barely even noticed.
“How’d you even get wrapped up in this?” Annie asked, shifting in the seat that surrounded a table of the dining hall.
Tina paused, “Are you just meaning if I got into pot before smack or if I was kidnapped or what?”
“Not quite. Like, were you raped and thrown into a scam or was it a drug deal gone wrong? Runaway maybe?” she prompted, thinking of some of the stories she’d read to help give herself some ideas.
Tina shrugged her shoulders, “He offered me a modeling job while I was alone at the mall, gave me this card. Said I was real pretty, it started simple enough. It was just a photoshoot or two. Then a trip to his studio out of town, and we went there more and more…. One day he showed me to a friend and I ended up fucking him. It happened so gradually, I guess I didn’t realize.”
“And how’d you get into drugs? Did you… do… uh, did you do something… with your um… with your pimp?” Spider-Man asked. Annie was positive the guy underneath was redder than his costume.
“You mean was my pimp my dealer and did I fuck him too? I guess saying no would be a lie…” Tina said in response, seeming to be thinking about something.
The charges against Tina’s pimp just stacked in Annie’s head. Drugs, trafficking, dealing, statutory rape, rape in general, the list just continued growing. Annie was almost certain that murder fit into the mix somewhere. It was obvious that the man who Tina appeared to care for was worse than a piece of garbage.
When it seemed that Tina was getting irritated with both heroes, Annie suggested that they leave for the evening. All Annie wanted was to finally crack Tina open, just so she could understand the other girl better. If only she could establish more trust with Tina, maybe then she’d trust Annie a little bit more. Though maybe it had to do with the fact that Annie was in a costume the whole time. Maybe if she met Tina while not being a superhero it would go differently, but she doubted that the opportunity would ever present itself.
“So, Spider-Kid, what do you think we should do for dinner?” Annie asked as they walked out of the homeless shelter, the sky already darkened.
The male sounded like he rolled his eyes at the nickname, “Well, Bird-Girl, I was thinking about getting something from that hot dog truck that’s about a block away.”
“You’re kidding right? You can’t actually smell that far away, can you?” she questioned with a small laugh, following Spider-Man.
He laughed a bit, “I-I actually can. My senses are dialed to eleven, it kinda sucks.”
“Well yeah, you’re in a huge city where everyone’s doing something at all times. I don’t think I could handle it,” she said as they stopped in front of the hot dog truck.
Annie just got a normal hot dog, but Spider-Man always got a ton of food. He blamed it on a scarily fast metabolism, but she never really paid much attention to it. The people working the truck were a bit surprised to see a couple of heroes just getting food. She couldn’t understand why, everyone had to eat at some point. At least it got both of them a sort of discount. They were familiar with Spider-Man, and Annie guessed that they just figured she was a friend or a hero by association.
Getting dinner after talking to Tina had become routine for the pair. That was when they got to talk about everything that happened. If they were going to have any major breakthroughs, hopefully it would be over some dinner while on the top of a skyscraper. It was a nice feeling, getting the chance to see the sky and all the buildings around. The city was prettier when she was able to see everything without feeling as though everything was stacked on top of itself.
“Alright, Spidey, lift me up, my dude,” Annie said, standing next to him with a hot dog in hand.
“You sure you don’t wanna try using your powers to lift yourself up? I’m telling you, I think you could do it. That would be way cool.”
“Eh, maybe later, I don’t feel like ruining my hotdog while trying to learn a new move.”
Spider-Man had an arm around her waist before he shot up to the top of the building they stood next to. Then they both sat on the roof, starting to eat. Being with each other like that made things private but casual. Annie found Spider-Man to be kind of funny sometimes. Sometimes it felt like she had known him for years and that they were good friends. Friends who shared being a hero in common. It felt like nothing would have changed if they knew each other in person. Though the guy could be insufferable when he brought up everything he had already done. It felt like he talked about stealing Captain America’s shield just to irritate her a bit.
“Anyways… you noticed that lead, right?” Annie asked, interrupting his fifteenth recount of Germany as she took another bite of her hotdog.
His eyes seemed to squint in thought, his mouth slightly opened in confusion, “How was any of that a lead?”
“We know how the guy finds girls. I’m a teenage girl, if I went to the right place at the right time and got a card or something like she did, we’d have a name,” she explained.
Then the eyes on his suit widened, becoming completely white, “No! You can’t do that! Swan, if you’re not careful then… I’m not sure you could get things to go the way you want.”
“It would just be a card, jeez, I wouldn’t need to do anything else,” she insisted, finishing up her food.
He glanced at her, “You know it would be more than that. You would over investigate. Normally… normally that’s fine, but he has other people.”
“Okay, but we could take them down together, I get us on the inside and we trap them together. You know, doing what the cops obviously aren’t,” Annie replied.
Spider-Man sighed, “It’s too dangerous, and it relies on you being in the right place at the right time.”
“But we both have powers, they don’t have any! We could take them so fast and they’d never see us coming!”
“You don’t know, there’s so much more that Tina isn’t telling us and I doubt she would know all that much about whatever organization it is anyways.”
They argued over practicalities and leads for the whole time they were up there. Annie thought it was nice that Spider-Man cared about what she did. Despite that, she was going along with her plan. He couldn’t stop her, she wouldn’t be in costume anyways. Like she’d claimed before, she just wanted to get a card. Something that could be more evidence. She figured that if the guy really wanted more supply in New York that he wouldn’t be too hard to find if she looked carefully.
Both of them agreed on just keeping their identities secret. There was no reason for either of them to know. If anything, it would only complicate their weird form of friendship. She also liked the type of anonymity it gave her. It was like they knew each other, but the reality was that they knew absolutely nothing about each other.
Granted, Annie had a list of people she suspected. Flash, Peter, and a couple other guys were on the list. Though when Annie asked Peter about his internship, the stories felt real enough. Still, every skinny guy that was a few inches taller than her was put on the list and Peter was certainly up there, but he wasn’t the prime suspect.
Then again, it was bold of her to assume Spider-Man went to Midtown in the first place. Queens was a huge area, the guy could have been in so many different schools. He was probably some guy that went to a school across from where she went for all she knew. For all she was aware, she didn’t know his secret identity personally anyways. It was possible that she had never even walked past him on the streets.
That would probably make more sense anyways for the fact that Annie liked to think that she knew the voices of the handful of people who she knew in New York. Not to mention Spider-Man’s seemingly unique personality. The odds of Annie knowing Spider-Man when she cross referenced personality with height and build, there were only two or three guys that Annie could really suspect. Perhaps, the mystery of who Spider-Man really was would remain unsolved in her mind.
Besides, Annie had better things to keep herself awake at night. Between the promise she had made to Peter and Ned alongside the makeshift mission with Tina, the young hero was swamped. It didn’t’ help that it felt like Harper was beginning to get tired of Annie focusing on the same two things, claiming that she needed to get a hobby or a love life. Something to keep her from obsessing so much about the problems around her.
