Last week I spent a day at Brooklyn's Botanic Garden with @eliza_mcnally . We had decided to try a day of practice with macro lenses. To that end, I took along my Laowa Probe Lens purchased but hardly used last summer. It is a rather hard lens to use in the wild being used more generally in the studio. It has a tiny built in ring light but rather than mess with the battery and switches for it I turned up the ISO on my camera to 6400 and be damned with the noise! It was a bright sunny day and I thought things would be fine. Well, the problem with this long lens is any movement at all is amplified at the tip of the lens, it was a bit breezy along with the lack of light at f/14 and down to f/30-40 where I had the lens most of the day so I still ended up with a lot of rather blurry images. Spring is on folks! Italian stream frogs (Rana italica) are among the first to emerge from hibernation and give a start to some old good Spring love.
