Been thinking about if Ford and Stan could bunk together for the sake of comfort once in a while during their travels. Having led such "busy" (to summarize) lives their dreams surely can get interesting. Of course, not every single one is "bad", and not every bad one feels like reliving the heartbreak/pain, but when it hits, it just hits.

And sticks.

Once calm, once grounded, they can tell it was just something their brain made up. They even walked all over the place checking for anything out of the ordinary, and nothing came up. It was an imaginary thing, confirmed.

Whoever is up and about has two options. Either get started on the day (don't want to sleep and risk another disgusting dream, or they just gave up on the idea now that they woke up) or hope they can catch some shut-eye still.

Maybe they could use some company, a presence that even when it is not active (the one that was originally sleeping fell asleep again, or just didn't really wake up in the first place) continues on being grounding by just being there, at their side.

Or it could be relatively active if there's snoring involved (rusty chainsaw that occassionally coughs Stan and car engine that sighs Ford). The noise is a bit more annoying up close than when they're each on their own spaces, but that doesn't mean that it can't eventually transform into the usual background noise that accompanies their nights.

Even more grounding if one had a nightmare about the other. Again, it was just an imaginary thing, it wasn't real, they can perfectly see and hear the other right there. Nothing happened, nothing at all. They're both fine.

But, still, just for one night, or at least a few hours, being close helps lower the remaining anxiety.

and the mc still has to like 'encourage' him to do it, tho its much easier in the 'ray ending' for sure. that man just wants to live a regular life with mc (unfortunately for him that means continuing to be binary star and dealing with aliens)

AND ON THE TOPIC OF THE MC, i was definitely in my head like....wouldnt rays superiors (managers??) get like curious about them? like no way theyre not being nosy about it after a certain amount of time passes. it really feels like something that could be leveraged against him,,, (if there is fic about this pls send it to me lol)

honestly i feel like mc and rays relationship would have moments of high stress. like there will be good times but also the bad times will also be there and its sometimes gonna be because of outside factors they cant control

Today I worked more on coding my text-based adventure game because that's what most people learning game development seem to start out with

And for two hours I was stuck trying to figure out how to make it so that if the player typed something wrong, it would print text that suggested what they typed wouldn't work, then allow them to type something valid which would continue the story where they left off.

Originally when I added the "else" section and tested it, the program would just print the text and end if I typed something invalid. I tried to make the code for the story's progression all one big method I could call back to once the player typed something invalid, which worked! Except I wanted it to print out different invalid text depending on where they were in the story.

Tried a billion confusing things on my own because I dont know enough programming vocabulary to search for the solution I was looking for, until I realized that the thing I was trying to do is covered in a C# tutorial I never finished 😭😭

like thinking abt it my favorite type of game protag for games where you can make your own guy is the one that already has some hooks built into the characterization... like either you have a backstory vaguely outlined (like kotor2 exile always blowing up malacor V, durge always being durge, bhaalspawn always coming from candlekeep and being bhaalspawn) or some recent event having a deeply personal effect on the pc (watcher getting their powers, courier 6 getting shot in the head, the pc accidentally fits the nerevarine prophecy, Areelu kidnaps the pc). Like having that little extra something elevates the story and allows for more coherence bc the writers have those hooks to draw together whatever the game is trying to say and what story it can tell. imo
