Quote
Society was saved by the negation of its own principles, by a revolution in its religion, and by violation of its most sacred rights. In this revolution, the idea of justice spread to an extent that had not before been dreamed of, never to return to its original limits. Heretofore justice had existed only for the masters; it then commenced to exist for the slaves.

having. Thoughts.
#I. Like. Ok.#I don’t. I don’t want to talk about the whole gender thing online it’s. It’s such a huge issue among so many people#Both online and offline in my rl.#My principal is be respectful and just do the things people ask you to do that aren’t even inconvenient#But. Like. I keep seeing people on here yelling about how. Like. Trans people don’t experience misogyny?#Or. Something? I’m not quite sure what they’re talking about#And I really don’t know if this actually speaks to the issue but.#I sorta? Transitioned? For a few years in my late teens.#I dressed spoke and acted as a man in as many ways as possible#Introduced myself with a gender neutral nickname and wore hats to hide my hair#Wore loose clothes and bound my chest#Deepened my voice considerably- I had and have GERD so it wasn’t too hard to pull off#And like. People. People treated me better#It was fucking wild#I started doing it almost more for the better treatment then for the gender euphoria I’m not even kidding#People listened to me when I spoke they got out of my way when I walked#They made eye contact with me and they deferred when I said what I wanted#I wasn’t MIStreated in dresses so much as I just…. Completely vanished#Nobody looked at me nobody listened nobody asked what I wanted or what I thought#Nobody expected any meaningful conversation or action out of me when I was feminine#Not a woman! I want to clarify! Nine times out of ten? Everyone who spoke to me KNEW I was female#They knew me previously or I gave it away pretty quickly.#It was the subconscious behavior that changed#The ingrained assumptions about me that literally shifted before my eyes as I progressively lowered my voice and broadened my shoulders#And that more than anything is why I cannot and will not try to debate this topic with people either online or irl#Because I have no idea how to reconcile my lived experience with the advice of my elders the doctrine of my faith#The principles I hold to and the arguments of people online.#It is enough to me that I am respectful kind and prayerful.#I do not need to be right. I am not commanded to love being right#I am only commanded to love my neighbor.

It's more than just the worn sofa cushions and matching silverware sets. Any asshole can paint their clapboard baby blue and retrofit a gas cooktop into the kitchen, just like any asshole can stash a go bag beneath hardwood floors — having stuff doesn't make a home. Not that Bucky has any way to know that, having always had fewer personal belongings than fingers on both hands. But he suspects that if the Wilson family found themselves transplanted into Bucky's Brooklyn shithole, that dump would become a home quicker than blinking.

"Meghan became the first royal to guest-edit an issue of the fashion bible for its September 2019 edition, which she collaborated on with then-editor Edward Enninful.
"The duchess chose to spotlight 15 high-profile women who she considered to be Forces for Change and included them on the cover shot by favorite fashion photographer, Peter Lindbergh, along with a mirrored square intended to represent the reflection of the reader.
"The issue also included a personal interview conducted by Meghan with former first lady, Michelle Obama, and an interview with conservationist Jane Goodall conducted by Prince Harry.
"It became British Vogue's fastest selling edition in history and was the biggest-selling issue of the past decade.
"Now, five years later, the legacy of Meghan's issue lives on. The publication has marked...the anniversary of the Forces for Change concept by asking the initial 15 trailblazing women selected by Meghan to nominate their own candidates for the honor."

Outside of the United States, some unions and indigenous groups have come together as allies in combating the harms of capitalism and settler colonialism, recognizing the shared mission of unions and indigenous communities as power-building institutions. Solidarity is the core value of the labor movement; a motivating sentiment of organized labor is the conviction that “[a]n injury to one is an injury to all.”
This value is not always reflected in American unions’ relationships to Native nations. Using language that echoes countless employer reactions to union campaigns, the AFL-CIO has stated that it supports “the principle of sovereignty” for Native nations while advocating for the United States government to assert control over tribal-labor relations. Twenty-first-century American unions have positioned themselves as tools for combating racist power structures. Yet even as Native income per capita is less than half of the national average, unions have exploited fears of “rich Indians” to garner support from non-Native workers. And unions, through litigation, have encouraged and benefited from courts’ racist preconceptions of “Indianness” in setting the boundaries of acceptable exercises of sovereign power.
It does not serve the mission of the labor movement to benefit from these wrongs. As union leaders and labor activists fight for a world in which power is redistributed away from the hands of the few, solidarity requires that those efforts be situated within the broader context of genocide, systematic dispossession, and the destruction of Native sovereignty. When unions approach organizing in the tribal context as a fight over NLRB jurisdiction, they seek to build worker power at the expense of Native self-determination. But power-building is not a zero-sum game. By centering tribal organizing on disputes over Board jurisdiction rather than turning to tribal labor law as a first choice, unions miss the opportunity to engage collaboratively with Native nations to build institutions that better serve both.
Harvard Law Review, “Tribal Power, Worker Power: Organizing Unions in the Context of Native Sovereignty”

still not over that time about a year ago one of my fave pr0ship meta blogs posted about wanting to understand why the pr0ship fandom mastodon circuit they were in was being accused of antisemitism and propaganda spreading and not understanding why ao3 was being accused of '""zion*sm"" with extra calls to boycott, so I explained some basic outlines of the conflict and oct 7 and the war as simply as i could while trying to be unbiased but accurate, and then what i knew about the ao3 volunteer debacle. They posted about realizing it's more complicated than they thought. Then about a week later, after i guess going back to their fandom mastodon circles to 'hear their side' ie absorb more propaganda, they posted about how they got fed some bad information trying to manipulate them into trying to sympathize with 'genociders' and something about 'learning' that the reports of atrocities on oct 7 were exaggerated, and that 'zion*sts' were liars and they had a 0 tolerance policy and dissenters would be blocked.
basically they heard a jewish perspective about not supporting the right wing racism and extreme stances and hoping for a palest*nian future free from hamas but also not supporting the destruction of the only jewish state or the denial of indigenousness or that Jews are expected to be willing to sit down and die to be considered righteous... and then they decided that their cool gentile friends with misinfo graphics and outrage sounded more true, and that the jew was definitely trying to play on their emotions with made up tragedies and threats.
this was someone who was previously able to write a lot about how nuance is important and disgust is not a metric of truth and that feeling uncomfortable or unsettled isn't harming you and doesn't give you the automatic right to 'win' the interaction... but I guess that only applied within the context of dark fan fiction and relationship trauma survivors, not when learning that they personally had fallen prey to disinformation campaigns.
i haven't really trusted pr0ship spaces since, despite having the same beliefs that fiction, like video games, can't brainwash you into changing or losing your moral compass, and that it's far more likely to reflect norms than change them.... But 'nuance and education matter, you feeling "uncomfortable" doesn't' only apply conditionally for most of them, i guess.

Reading shit comics kind of sucks but at least I get the satisfaction of proving my own point w this
#like damn if i really was 100% right about this before i even knew what i was talking about#anyways one of the many many problems with new 52 wonder woman is the fact that diana isnt religious enough#also that azzarello and chiang are incapable of imagining a feminist utopia which is the original genre that wonder woman comics were based#in in the same way that batman for example is connected to the noir genre. and the mythological aspects of the og wonder woman comics were#in fact a common framing aspect of the feminist utopia genre of the progressive era (with many of the deeper greek mythology aspects being#established as the foremost ww genre later on)#anyways this failure to understand this layering of genres in the ww mythology i believe is the principle contributor of why this run which#is popular with many and has such a footprint in other more mainstream media is hated by so many longtime wonder woman fans in that it not#only neglects but actively goes against key parts of her premise#a comparison could be made to a superman run that is heavily based in science fiction and exploring deep sci fi genre plots without any#understanding by the creators of why it matters that superman is champion of the oppressed and disrespecting that core part of him by in#some ways making him actually go against that in service of the high sci fi genre plots and conflict#and then ofc to translate better in this reality this run would function like a can of worms in that while dc in comics would eventually#course correct back to the base version the public opinion would become divided and especially adaptations would need all the canon changes#from that run torn viciously out of their hands bc they refuse to LET IT GO#anyways yeah teehee i swore to someone id never read it but i needed it for fic research purposes unfortunately so i started it. only read 6#issues but meh. first one wasnt terrible tbh id read worse but after that i got much more unhappy#anyways they simply dont understand why people like the amazons or why people should like the amazons. which again is like half the freaking#point bc like. feminist utopia genre. but i digress#its bad but its bad in a way that proves me right about why its bad so at least theres that#someday when i post my rebirth ww fic ill post the analysis of nu52 ww and the comparison to the beat movement/ginsberg that ive got in my#drafts. finally get that A in comic book literary analysis#blah

a bunch of people have already registered for my mentoring workshop! unfortunately this means i have to plan and host a workshop aaaaaa
#i want to think aloud through it on here at some point#but i think i am going to structure it around the theme of cultivating student autonomy#because i think one of the primary goals of mentorship is to prepare students to be self-directed learners who can set realistic goals +#evaluate their own progress + reflect on what they've learned and what they still don't know#+ take initiative without sitting around waiting for someone to tell them what to do next#so i think we will do some thinking around like#when we have a student we think of as really capable or driven what qualities and behaviors do we observe in that student#and maybe ill also share some of the research on intrinsic motivation + self-direction + locus of control#which i think is all really interesting esp in light of the contemporary College Mental Health Crisis concerns#and then we will look at a range of tools + structures + strategies that i think are useful for fostering student autonomy over time#and maybe leave them with some core principles/guiding values that i think are useful when you are trying to like#avoid jumping in and doing stuff for kids#or solving their problems for them#idk i need to think through specifics a bit more#but i feel like on this campus#people do a lot of 'workshops' that are really not interactive at all#it's just someone talking from slides#and i kind of want to show off my ability to structure more engaging workshops#but idk. gotta think about how to do it well#and how to build in lots of opportunities for like crowdsourcing strategies too

Just saw a post that made a cool point about like, fantasy where Ancient Technologies are the most high tech of the setting, and things from the 70s have better longevity than new stuff made to be replaced, and it was very smart and coreect but it made me think of like, The Opposite Direction.
By which i mean Oh. The Sartan were the equivalent to that generation of technology where they built everything w Asbestos and went this is great. This is so resilient it will outlive us. Surely this has nothing nothing to do with our rapidly decreasing population-

A populist mantra: Democracy is a luxury when you cannot pay your bills
The idea that democracy is a luxury when you cannot pay your bills reveals the depth of disconnection between the state of financial struggle and the foundation of democratic values, highlighting the ignorance about the mechanisms that allow societies to grow and improve. Photo by Matheus Viana on Pexels.com This idea implies that economic security must precede meaningful participation in…
