Quote
A person is strong only when he stands upon his own truth, when he speaks and acts from his deepest convictions. Then, whatever the situation he may be in, he always knows what he must say and do. He may fall, but he cannot bring shame upon himself or his cause.

I'm sure I've talked about this before, but I cant find a post I've made, so, lets have another go. Stuff to remember and think about in conflicts, politics, life. There are very very rare exceptions, but the more people are involved, the rarer exceptions are.
No one thinks they're the villain in the story. They have a reasoning that frames them as doing the right thing.
Morals are not universal. What you consider an absolute good, others may consider an absolute evil. That doesn't make you right.
Fear is the greatest motivator. People don't like saying they're afraid, so it gets called hate or anger, but underneath that is fear.
Fear is not rational. Might be exaggerated or invented, but that doesn't make it less real for people afraid of it.
Understanding =//= agreement. You can understand your opponent without agreeing with them.
Black and White issues don't exist. If you think it's that clean cut, you're probably ignoring some of the nuance.
The other side is not a monolith. The people supporting the thing you hate have as much variety and depth as your side. You can't hold all of them to the headlines.
Compromise is inevitable. That is a good thing. No one gets to mandate their demands unchecked across all others. You don't have to like any of it, but it will happen.
Analyze in a vacuum, make your choice in reality. Put aside your own perspective or opinions while you figure out the situation. Get your head around it from a couple of views. Then get out of that sterile situation and make a real choice.
I can't say this will make you happier. Important anyway.

The task is endless, it’s true. But we are here to pursue it. I do not have enough faith in reason to subscribe to a belief in progress or to any philosophy of history. I do believe at least that man’s awareness of his destiny has never ceased to advance. We have not overcome our condition, and yet we know it better. We know that we live in contradiction, but we also know that we must refuse this contradiction and do what is needed to reduce it. Our task as men is to find the few principles that will calm the anguish of free souls. We must mend what has been torn apart, make justice imaginable again in a world so obviously unjust, give happiness a meaning once more to peoples poisoned by the misery of the century. Naturally, it is a superhuman task. But superhuman is the term for tasks men take a long time to accomplish, that’s all.
—Albert Camus, Les amandiers (1940), first published in L'Été (1954)

Know more today about the world than I knew yesterday
and lessen the suffering of others.
You'd be surprised how far that gets you.”

Men's femininity is very different from the femininity that is a requirement of women's subordinate status, because women do not choose femininity but have it thrust upon them. Femininity is not a form of sexual fantasy for women but the hard and often resented work required of those who occupy subordinate social status.
Beauty and Misogyny by Sheila Jeffreys

identifying your principles and values
Tumblr media
self-reflection
take some time to reflect on your experiences, beliefs, and priorities. think about moments in your life when you felt most proud, fulfilled, or aligned with your true self. what values were present in those moments? what principles guided your actions and decisions?
make a list
grab a pen and paper and start jotting down words and phrases that resonate with you. think about qualities you admire in others, causes you're passionate about, and behaviors you aspire to embody. these can be anything from honesty and integrity to compassion and creativity.
prioritize
once you have a list of potential values, take some time to prioritize them. consider which values are non-negotiables for you and which ones are less important. remember, there are no right or wrong answers—your values are personal to you.
live your values
now that you've identified your principles and values, it's time to put them into practice. strive to align your actions and decisions with your values on a daily basis. this might mean setting boundaries, making difficult choices, or speaking up for what you believe in.
reflect and adjust
as you navigate life, take time to regularly reflect on your values and how well you're living up to them. be open to adjusting and refining your values as you grow and evolve as a person.
Tumblr media
remember, identifying your principles and values is an ongoing process. it's okay if it takes time, and it's okay if your values change over time too. what's important is that you stay true to yourself and live a life that's in alignment with what matters most to you.

Tiny version so I don't scream: You are not obligated to bleed yourself dry because someone, somewhere is suffering. Your pain does nothing to alleviate theirs.
Starving yourself does not feed famine victims. Saving water in your rainy town doesn't help the people in a drought. Choosing the lesser evil for your own country does not exclude you from wanting to help others.
Life is not that simple.
You have to put on your own oxygen mask first.
Anyone saying that you're a bad person for having money, safety, security or joy when someone else, somewhere in the world, still lacks an equal share in that is a goddamn idiot. Ignore them.

It's so hard to be kind. It's one of the values I treasure most in anyone, and especially try hard for myself. It sometimes feels like I'm being naïve and I'm sure other people think so too, but I know who I am and what I'm doing, I know it seems I'm being dumb. But I'm not, I'm being kind and I refuse to be any other way. I going to do so many bad things, there's no other way to be human, but I'm going to wash the blood from my hands and start over. And over. And over. As long as it takes, I'm not giving up. I'm going to make this world better for at least someone. If its just a person who's dropped change and I picked it up for them, so be it.

Unlocking the Power of Animation: A Guide to the 12 Principles of Animation
The 12 Principles of Animation: Bringing Life to Art
Animation is a captivating and ever-evolving art form that has the power to transport audiences to fantastical worlds and stir deep emotions.
Behind the magic of animated films and videos lie the "12 Principles of Animation" a set of guidelines that have been the cornerstone of animation since their introduction by Disney animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston in their 1981 book, "The Illusion of Life" These principles are the building blocks of animation, allowing artists to breathe life into characters and create fluid, engaging motion.
Here are the 12 principles, along with explanations for each:
1. Squash and Stretch (Flexibility and Elasticity)
Tumblr media
This principle emphasizes the need to give volume and weight to objects and characters by distorting them when they move. It adds a sense of realism and exaggeration to the animation.
2. Anticipation (Preparing for Action)
Tumblr media
Before a character makes a significant movement or action, there should be a brief moment where they prepare for it. This helps the audience understand what's about to happen and adds depth to the animation.
3. Staging (Presentation and Clarity)
Tumblr media
Staging involves arranging elements in the scene to convey the story clearly. Proper framing, camera angles, and composition guide the viewer's focus to the most important elements.
4. Straight Ahead and Pose to Pose (Two Approaches to Animation)
Tumblr media
These are two different methods of animating. Straight ahead involves creating each frame in sequence, while pose to pose focuses on defining key poses and then filling in the gaps. Both methods have their uses, depending on the desired effect.
5. Follow Through and Overlapping Action (Secondary Motion)
Tumblr media
Objects and characters should continue moving slightly after their primary action has stopped (follow through) and some parts of the character may move at different rates or in different directions (overlapping action). This adds realism to motion.
6. slow in and out (Easing In and Out)
Tumblr media
To make movements look more natural, objects should start and end their actions gradually, with acceleration and deceleration. This principle prevents abrupt and robotic motion.
7. Arcs (Natural Paths of Action)
Tumblr media
Most natural movements follow an arcing path rather than straight lines. Animators should ensure that characters and objects move in arcs to mimic real-world physics.
8. Secondary Action (Supporting Actions)
Tumblr media
Secondary actions complement the primary action and add depth to the character or scene. These actions can be facial expressions, gestures, or any other movement that enhances the animation.
9. Timing (Pacing and Rhythm)
Tumblr media
Timing is crucial to establish the mood and rhythm of the animation. It determines how fast or slow actions occur and can evoke different emotions in the audience.
10. Exaggeration (Accentuating Reality)
Tumblr media
Exaggeration is used to amplify the actions and emotions of characters, making them more expressive and engaging. However, it should be used judiciously to maintain believability.
11. Solid Drawing (Three-Dimensional Forms)
Tumblr media
Animators must understand the principles of traditional drawing, including anatomy, perspective, and form, to create characters and objects that appear three-dimensional and solid in a 2D space.
12. Appeal (Attractiveness and Personality)
Tumblr media
Appeal refers to the likability and charisma of characters. It involves designing characters with unique and interesting traits that draw the audience's attention and empathy.
Mastering Animation: 12 Essential Principles Explained These principles serve as a foundation for animators to craft compelling stories and characters.
While they were developed in the realm of traditional hand-drawn animation, they continue to be relevant in today's digital animation techniques.
Aspiring animators and seasoned professionals alike still rely on these principles to captivate audiences and breathe life into their creations, reminding us that the magic of animation lies in its ability to make the impossible seem real.
As i conclude this journey through the intricate world of animation, extend our heartfelt gratitude to each reader.
