Log D-1

This is the start of my logs regarding a phenomenon I have yet to find words for, but the current date is August 23rd. I... still don't understand why we- just- still keep track down here... That's besides the point. The main focus of this new string of logs is to document my findings. Yesterday I started a 24 hour test for mollah, since someone was concerned about their child having it. Which, it turned up negative, but... But there was still some kind of change in the cells. That. That doesn't happen. Especially not in monsters, since whenever body cells are extracted and the person uses magic, that- that doesn't use the magic from extracted cells. There's no interconnection. Even then, the changed cells in the petri dish don't... they don't have magic in them. Or- Well. They don't have monster magic in them... Or human, considering the tests I've done on scarred tissue as results of human magic, which rendered our healing magic useless. These cells were normal before, as no mitosis or meiosis occurred, and... Well, and cells don't just pop up and go poof... I dont know how else to describe them, though. It's nothing I've ever seen before. I might call the patient back to the office so I can do a second test... Hopefully there aren't similar cells like this regularly. Though, similar cells or not, I don't.. I don't have a good feeling about this, if I'm being honest. Maybe Undyne is right and I need to sleep more... But, I have too much to do. I can't waste any time. This is Dr. Alphys, and that concludes my findings.

I love the Tumblr presence of fiction podcasts. It makes it feel like actual people are making these shows and not just an amorphous corporate entity cranking out content. We got one willing to drop small lore and world building hints and clarifications on their work (or just shitposting about their favorite toxic ship from the show) ( @starsfellradio ), we got another hyperfixated on old tools and tech right now ( @starfallpod ), and then we have�� whatever the Intern at @ameliapodcast has going on over there.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday!

I wanted to start off by shouting out @podcast-bookclub for the fantastic Audio Fiction Convention they organized for this weekend. I'm still catching up on some of the sessions that weren't in my timezone, but I wanted to highlight a couple I've really enjoyed so far:

@midnightburgr Welcome to the Horizon Part 10 - Phoenix: So many things to love about this episode. Swamp Thing! Doug and Steve taking the lead on prepping for the disaster is incredible. Trinkett going for the mushrooms! The fucking Teds! And then my absolute favourite part they had me freaking out: Deidre and Verge ON THE MOON!!! [For those who don't know, the voice actors for Deidre and Verge were both in Moonbase Theta, Out, so the fact that their MB characters ended up on the Moon together is just... incredible. Love that for them.] 🌕

@thefringespod S1: AuFiCon inspired me to listening to more shows that I've had on my list for a while, and I started with TftFoR. The worldbuilding is incredible, and the way that it's slowly revealed throughout the season is so well done. I adored Minerva and her violin plucking sounds from the start, but just to show you part of my reaction notes from the end of the season: omgggggg MIN :(((( Crying for Sil. I knew something was up but I wasn't expecting that!!

I'm looking forward to continuing with S2! ✨

@wanderersjournalpod S1: Another show that's been on my list for a while, and that has super interesting world building. The mysterious magical journal is such an interesting way for two characters to communicate. I am absolutely fascinated by this world and these two characters, especially where Marigold has come from. However, I am also very worried for Pluto. Also I love creature. Thank goodness that S2 is in the works! 📔

@starfallpod - Act 1 Scene xix: I couldn't help but laugh at the comment that they're two sacks of potatoes lighter now that Leona has her appetite back. I do love when characters get put in situations with people they might not normally be with, and this was no exception. Especially when the whole goal was for them to get into trouble but in a specific area (which they did). Did Centhy even actually need those flowers? 🌸

@ameliapodcast S5 Part 1: I am absolutely loving the journey into the past that we're taking with both Kozlowski and The Interviewer. I am also wondering how reliable these narrators are...though the CIA checked out Kozlowski's stories! Can't wait to keep delving into their stories. 🐦‍🔥

The current date is September 2nd. Maisy turned 9 yesterday. I know I shouldn't mention patient names, but... Something terrible happened this morning. I woke up to a frantic call from her mother and.. and... She wanted to be the owner of a flower shop, for crying out loud... I... I know nobody is listening to these audio logs anyway, why do I need to be professional?!-

The patient was hospitalized yesterday. The magic that made up their marrow structures mutated without warning, and they hadn't been using it much except.. except for helping to plant flowers in their windowsills. They were found screaming on the floor, their marrow spiking out of their skin with blood pooling out from the openings. It... I went to go visit after I got the call, and it was so.. gruesome... They were in so much pain. So much pain that the hospital wasn't ready for. The staff couldn't even give them anything to soothe the pain due to their allergies... There were some bumps underneath their skin that I wouldn't be surprised if they were new mutations waiting to bloom. Even just thinking about it makes me sick... I need to look more into this, but I've been so swamped with work recently. I'm beginning to suspect it might have something to do with the different cells I found previously... Regardless, this is Dr. Alphys, and that concludes my.. my findings.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! New job means new commute to listen to podcasts to!

@ameliapodcast S3 Part 2: The second half of this season did not go where I thought it would...and I loved it!! I was definitely not expecting The Incognito Project or Miguel! Alvina's backstory is fantastic. The body bag shenanigans between the CIA and MI5 were hilarious, and then that epilogue ending!! Still no sign of our favourite Italians though... 🐦‍🔥

The Amelia Project S4: Another fantastic season. Part of the team is back together in Paris! We're getting Kozlowski time! CIA backstories! The most ridiculous series of near misses in a gas station's history! All of this contrasting with the slowly building concern I had for the Interviewer made for some very emotional moments. In particular, the final episode with Alvina's gentle yet firm concern and the Interviewer's quiet fear. I also have to mention the melody hummed at the end of the first and last episodes of the season - eerie and absolutely beautiful. 🐈‍⬛

@forgedbondspod Chapter 5: While we didn't get any new Aphrodite and Hephaestus moments, we did see just how much support Aphrodite, Hera, and Ares have from their friends. I love that they're being checked in on, and having honest discussions about what's happening. Though methinks that Ares is totally oblivious to Hermes' feelings... Case in point:

ARES: Who knows? Maybe you'll have a bear of your own one day.

HERMES: (wistful but not for bear ownership) Yeah, maybe.

@vestaclinicpod S1 Re-listen: I just had to listen to S1 again in preparation for the first episode of S2 being released this coming Thursday!! My love for this show has not diminished at all. It's interesting though how the context of certain episodes can change based on your own life experiences. For example, I had a seizure for the first time a couple months ago and now can't drive until I've undergone testing and receive clearance from a doctor. My sympathy for Sung Fang and his FASERUNR has definitely turned to empathy (though my mode of transportation is just a car vs his time traveling device...) I can't wait for more cases, more Fey, more Rai, more Xael, and of course, more Sec! ⚕️

@midnightburgr Chapter 42 - Speedrun!: Effie and Zebulon doing their sports commentator thing is my favourite, especially when they do random interviews with the other diner crew. I loved the different team combinations that we saw, and the growth (and conflict) in the different relationships. Also hell yeah Fiona, I see you. I am very concerned about the ending though, they can't take our Mucklewains! 📻

1/19/25 WIP Updates

I've begun drafting Codename Mercedes, and it's going well! I'm still solidifying certain aspects of the world-building and re-defining the main characters' dynamics and designs. But progress is going and we are definitely on-track for a May release for this novella.

I'm also trying to be a little less perfectionistic about this one since it is a novella and I can always revisit it later for an expansion or redo any parts of it (the joys of being an indie online author)

I think I'll go more in-depth on what exactly is happening behind the scenes with Starfall Sleuth on another post, but let's suffice to say that I'm rebuilding it from the ground up.

I'm revisiting the world-building and characterization to make the story more appealing to me to write. But it is a prioritized project in that I want to see this eventually completed after the success of Crystal Magic. I haven't held onto this for nearly so long, but you have been hearing about it for a while and based on my poll, it is one of your most-anticipated projects from me and I'd like to honor that.

House of Apocalypse has also begun drafting, with some rough revisions to the outline and a few characterization notes. I'm going a little slower on this and trying to do at least one smaller project like Codename Mercedes before starting publication on this one because longer serialized stories like this do take a higher amount of energy.

I'm aiming for a late summer/early autumn publication date, although I might also break it down into seasons like with Crystal Magic and To Sail on Seas of Sky to make it easier.

Joey and Salvatore have been missing from The Amelia Project for a while and I feel like the funniest thing the TAP crew could have done is get them the smallest cameos in other podcasts while they’re gone. Just imagine some random Italian argument happening in the background of Midnight Burger, or two Italians broke into Mama Gabe’s for some pie, or these Catholic boys needed to go to confession at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Just play it off as them being lost and trying to find their way home. Hilarious.
