So a few nights back I watched Prom Night and like, it was aight, it had an extended and choreographed disco dance scene with Jamie Lee Curtis which gave it some points, actually likeable teens and Leslie Nielsen in his most subdued role ever (go watch Creepshow if you wanna rightfully watch him ham it up in a horror movie), but I think it fell pretty flat on the actual horror and especially the kills.

That being said, I got nothing better to watch so last night I decided to watch Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, and it was fucking DECENT, like what the fuck? The totally unrelated sequel to itself mediocre low budget slasher flick had way better kills, a way better villain, music, effects, plot etc. And while it's very much a Nigjtmare on Elm Street clone I'd easily put it above a lot of their sequels, it's basically a better executed Nightmare part II AND THE VILLAIN IS A CUNTY 50'S COQUETTE PROM QUEEN BACK FROM THE DEAD.

Oh and it has Michael Ironside in it, as if I didn't have enough reasons to love this movie.

This is all to say that you should absolutely go watch it, at least where I am its free on Amazon Prime with occasional ads, oh and this is a Mary Lou Maloney Stan blog now.

31 Nights of Halloween Horror: day 16

My choice for last night was: Prom Night (1980)

I rated this movie 5/10. Average 80's teen slasher movie. The unlikeable characters were unlikeable, you felt bad for the people you were supposed to feel bad for. The identity of the killer was very obvious. Jamie Lee Curtis did a great job, as she always does. If you like 80's cheesy horror, you'll like this.

Truly believes he’s given you everything the two of you could ever want. An eternity together.

If you don’t want to be his prom date, you don’t have the option. His eye will twitch- and with a smile, he’ll say he understands through gritted teeth.

But oh, oh, oh, poor Charley. Wally Clark is a jock- and classic one at that. His highschool bully roots will come through eventually.

He’ll have Charley pushed against a locker, threatening to kill him a second time if he doesn’t convince you to go.

You’re his girl. His only hope to find happiness in this shithole of a school.

“You- you love me, right?”

He asks, his eyes a bit too focused on his jersey number he doodled on the back of your hand.

If you say yes, he’ll practically wag his tail and put an arm around you possessivley.

If you stutter, he’ll nod with a shy laugh- a quick “i’m jus’ kidding,” muttered.

She's All That/80's Movie AU

Desire dares Dream to turn "Nerd"!Hob hot and take him to the prom. And if (when) Dream loses, Desire gets Dreams car for the Summer.

Dream isn't worried, he can get anyone, and Hob is such a nerd.

Hob is surprised when school mean girl Dream Endless starts talking to him - Hob's just a guy. He's interested in history and is thinking about going to college to become a professor.

Dream is gorgeous, but it doesn't make a lot of sense for him to be interested in Hob. But Hob guesses that he'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Aaksmdfnsns I like this a lot!!!

Dream thinks this whole thing is going to be so easy - he's expecting Hob to roll over and drool for him. And Hob does fancy Dream a lot, but he's also not stupid. So, if Dream wants to hang out with him, that's fine. But Hob won't be changing his routines to suit Dream.

Dream asks to come and hang out at Hob’s place, Hob says sure! And Dream has to suffer through getting the bus back to Hob’s place. He also meets Hob’s family: hard working parents who hardly get a minute to themselves but still make time for the kids, and little siblings who think Hob is the coolest thing. Dream has some Big Feelings about the state of his own family after that.

Whatever, he's going to win this bet! He finally persuades Hob to ditch the nerdy glasses (it only lasts half the day because Hob cant fucking SEE but at least Desire sees him without them). He goes thifting with Hob and picks out some stuff that's a little more cool than his usual style. He even takes Hob to get his ears pierced. Even Desire has to admit that Hob is looking pretty sexy. All that's left is for Dream to take him to the prom.

Hob says no.

He says no!! To Dream!!! The queen of the school!!! Dream can't believe it. Hob just shrugs, and says he's busy looking after his siblings that particular night. And also that he's not going to let Dream publicly humiliate him - he would like to be Dream’s friend, but he wont be treated like trash. Dream literally stomps away like a toddler.

But when it comes to prom night, Dream doesn't join Desire and the others in their fancy outfits. He takes his car (for the last time this summer apparently) and drives over to Hob’s place to make a grovelling apology. Hob accepts it all with a smile, and invites Dream inside. They have their own mini prom with Hob’s lil brothers and sisters and it's waaaay better than the real thing.

And Hob does finally take his glasses off again - but only because they were getting in the way of kissing his Dream <3

Embarrassing secret: She thought the term "powdering your nose" was literal. So after she started her transition, she always brought a compact mirror with a set of powder in it when she went to the restroom. When one of her friends asked why she always did that, she explained herself only to realize it was just a saying. Her girl friends teased her about it, but not for very long.

Favorite mascara is Maybelline Great Lash, because that's what Lucy uses (as did every other mom in the 80s and 90s)

HATES the smell of hairspray, and that's a problem because all the other girls in the locker room and bathroom use the hell out of it. She prefers using mousse to keep her curls looking good.

Some of her favorite songs are "Open Your Heart" by Madonna, "Shadows of The Night" by Pat Benatar, and "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston

She did little league as a kid, and now during her free time or in gym class, she likes to play softball. Once threw a ball at a classmate that said she "threw like a bitch". He got a black eye as a result.

As a cheerleader she acts as a "base", helping lift up the others when doing stunts. The other girls think she's got the skill to be a flyer, but she's very shy at the idea of the attention being on just her for a routine.

All four of the Lost Boys have lent her their jacket as an act of chivalry. Dwayne's made her the most bashful since he doesn't have a shirt on underneath.

In middle school she went through a phase of dotting her "i"s with hearts.

Unlike her movie counterpart, Mikayla does want to go back to school after the summer break. After meeting David she starts daydreaming about him being her date to the senior prom.

Lucy constantly has to scold her not to slurp her drinks or put elbows on the table, saying it's not "ladylike". Mikayla hates this, often pointing out that Sam never gets in trouble for doing the same thing and that it's not fair.

Has a lucky, pink scrunchie she wears for cheer practice. She's paranoid she'll mess up if she doesn't wear it.

Sneezes like a kitten. She's not even doing it on purpose to be extra feminine, she's just always sneezed like that.

you aren’t one to stay at a party after starting to cry. so instinctively, upon seeing your very drunk boyfriend with someone else on his lips, you bolted, knowing what was to come. struggling to see past the salty puddles forming in your eyes, you somehow pushed and shoved your way to the most secluded section of the party, at least in the middle of winter — the pool.

“yeah, yeah, thanks for the recap,” you cupped your face between your hands, resting your elbows on your thighs. “i’m an idiot,”

“if this made you an idiot, half the planet would be one,” jake scoffed, “you liked him. it’s easy to get blindsided by people you have feelings for,”

“well, half the planet needs a reality check, then,” you exhaled deeply, “i know i did,”

“why do you insist on blaming yourself for something that was solely that jerk’s fault?” jake rolled his eyes as he leaned back on his palms, knowing you weren’t looking his way.

“i don’t blame myself for the fact that he cheated, i blame myself for not seeing that coming,” you gazed down at the motionless water. you weren’t sure what exactly was making this conversation so easy, but you figured it came down to jake catching you at the right time.

“if you’re going to take one thing away from tonight, i think it should be that now you know he isn’t worth any more of your time,” jake explained, “the past is past. and for the record, i think you’re an idiot for reasons that have nothing to do with your dating life,”

“you’re one to talk, jake sim,” you grinned involuntarily while you swung your head back to look at jake, who had started to laugh before you even reached your hands around to his torso to tickle him. 

“sorry!” he put his hands up in defense.

“you better be,” you retorted, adjusting your seat to face him. “i’ll tell your mom if you keep that up,”

“that threat really lost its weight when we left high school, y/n,” jake shrugged, shaking his head jokingly. “you need a new source of leverage,”

“oh, don’t worry about me. i have plenty of leverage,” you reminded him, “i have a big supply in the box of photos i brought from home. it’s in the album called ‘jake’s mullet’,”

jake leaned in close to you, eyes widening, “you still have those?”

“...yes,” you confessed, “but no soul has seen them since you got rid of it — apart from me. it cheers me up when i’m feeling down,”

jake heaved a sigh, “well…i can’t complain about that. my roommates see your experimental hair from junior high every day,”

you tilted your head, furrowing your eyebrows. “what’s that supposed to mean?”

“i have that picture of you and my dog before we went to the spring fling together up in my room,” jake admitted, “next to the one of my family and me at graduation,”

“oh…” you started to mutter, your smile fading in thought.

it warmed your heart a little bit to hear that jake held onto those memories just as you had. it was nice to feel remembered. and not only as a second thought.

“before you can demand that i take it down — which is not happening until i take another one to replace it, by the way,” jake began, pushing himself up onto his feet by the hands, “let’s go, i’m freezing,”

he brushed his palms together to get rid of any poolside debris before extending his right hand for yours. “come on. don’t worry about that dirtbag; he can figure his ride out on his own,”

you had forgotten about said dirtbag for about five minutes. those were the best five minutes you had in a long time. clutching to jake’s hand (which was somehow still warm), you stood up. you found yourselves only inches apart, your gazes meeting in a manner that took you back to the night of the spring fling. he had only grown more handsome in the years since, from his jawline to his impeccable hair, but that wouldn’t have mattered to you. you thought he was gorgeous back then too, embarrassing mullet and all. 

“so, what do you say?” jake asked, “can i drive you home?”
