Will never get over the fact that Jason Todd, a character so many hate because of his violence, hated because he ‘just wants to kill the joker’, hated because many don’t believe ‘has any justification’; a character who so many dislike because he’s not like the other robins; he isn’t funny, or quirky, or a bit weird but in a cooky way that makes you ignore his trauma, a character that so many dislike because he as a character centres around the fact he clawed his way out of his coffin age fifteen screaming, who centres around the pain of betrayal, who centres around what happens when you leave the rot to fester until it’s a murderous infection; A character who so many dislike because he isn’t ‘good’ enough compared to the Robins we’ve had before and after him, is the way he is because people voted for a fifteen year old comic book character to be murdered by the Batman’s worst foe.

I will never get over the fact that so many people dislike Jason Todd because of his brutality, and his violence when the very brutality and violence of comic book readers is what caused him to be that way.

When he was Robin, he wasn’t good enough alive because he wasn’t ‘Dick Grayson’, he was a grungier Robin, a robin who had seen what it was like living in the conditions Batman was trying to stop; he was a Robin who had seen that Bruce’s methods didn’t always work. And that wasn’t good enough, he didn’t embody ROBIN enough - a thought reflected in the character themselves...

And so people voted for him to be murdered by the Joker.

And then when he comes back, screaming (in pain, body not quite realising that the BEATINGS had stopped) and clawing his way out of his own coffin and being so wrapped up in grief and pain and embodying everything that the consequences of unnecessary violence entail he’s still ‘bad’, still not ‘Good’ enough.

Under the Red Hood is my favourite animated Batman movie and my favourite story arc for Jason Todd - followed up by a Death in the Family which the movie briefly touches on-  in no small part because when you come face to face with Jason Todd and all he can do is ask his Father why he wasn’t important enough to avenge it hits; because how many people can sit there and watch as the people that have hurt them don’t get punished, how many people can sit there and rage and scream ‘why am i not important? was what I went through not bad enough?’ 

But not only that, it’s important because it shows that Jason’s still that kid who crawled out of his grave, he’s still scared and alone.

And when Jason Todd- Red Hood acts violent he’s returning violence with violence. 

Batman’s job is to scare, he’s a force there to make people think twice to committing crime. Fear and intimidation are Batman’s strong suit; it’s why you’ll get panels and scenes of crooks running when they see the Bat’s shadow. Red Hood’s job isn’t to scare and intimidate; it’s to control.

Batman wants to isolate the issue and provide resources to help fix the source of the pain and suffering.

Red Hood wants to cut it off at the source and dig the roots up, to spray pesticide in the cracks left behind and cultivate what little gets through into something useful.

Going back to the Under the Red Hood movie - when he ‘bargains’ with the crime lords he doesn’t try and get them to see the ‘errors of their ways’ or stop doing crime, he lets them continue under HIS control; because at the top he can make sure things don’t get out of control, he can stop the worst of it. The ‘and no selling to kids. GOT IT.’ part standing out the most.

And it just mystifies me how people can go on about how Red Hood is a ‘bad character’, a bad ‘batfamily member’ for his violence when it’s the very thing that created him.

Jason Todd to me, especially his earlier characterisation as Red Hood, is meant to embody blood for blood. You wanted him dead, killed and tortured by the worst villain Batman has - and you want to complain about the consequences of violence?

I thought one of the lessons of Batman’s rogue gallary was ‘all it takes is one bad day’, well I’m pretty sure ‘A Death in the Family’ was a series of the worst days rolled into one arc.

My first thought when i saw this: TFP Ben 10

Given how this 👇 is Ben's canonical car:

You aren't too far off lmao (mostly on the colour at least).

You might not be particularly a fan of CNA from your sphere of headcanons, but considering that Ben can access another biomechanical species in the galvanic mechamorph, I'm sure there's enough of an Omnitrix work around to sample cybertronian data. Seeing as it's a Camaro you could probably have a TFP x Ben 10 crossover equivalent to TFA Waspinator maybe, a green Bumblebee (or a green hornet if you of/remember that) but it's Ben. Considering how the biomechanical Upgrade has a few biological translation issues to the point of not quite technically being a fully integrated transformation, maybe Ben would speak with his own voice like Upgrade does or maybe even through radio depending on how physically different cybertronians are to human anatomy.

I mean that specific line of thinking would only be possible if Ben snagged a sample of Bumblebee's CNA (or whatever you'd prefer) which could either be convoluted or unclimactic, though I guess if street racing in some part of the globe with a desert (aka somewhat nearby Bellwood which already exists cross universe between Ben 10 and Generator Rex) there could be some plot about his shenaniganery nearly running Team Ben off the road and messing with Kevin's own heavily modified yet fresh from 1979 Dodge Challenger to the irritation and anger of Kevin himself. Something something Bee got the attention of the wrong (mostly) humans(ish).

I have a Mega Man AU where Roll was the prototype to the robot masters instead of Blues

and I remembered there was a similar sort of swap scenario in an episode of season two of recut where Rock and Proto swapped roles temporarily

So I thought I'd ask, what do you think would be different if Proto had swapped roles with Roll instead of Rock? I, for one, imagine proto just punching the robot masters instead of having the arm gadget that roll has.

So for Recut, like if Roll was the older sister who became Wily's second-in-command, and Rock and Proto were twins? Lots of thoughts on this (this would be really fun to draw too~ like one of those style swaps I did awhile back, with Red Bomber Roll and Jumpsuit/Utility Arm Proto or whatever)

So Roll is still Roll, but like even cooler? So more of a 'cool badass' with the effortless charisma canon!Proto has, rather than a 'hotheaded badass' that canon!Roll is, yet also with a personal beef against Dr. Light that caused the original rift for her to defect (Maybe she too got bored?)

Meanwhile the sibling rivalry would be much more intense between Rock and Proto, with Proto especially feeling like he's been passed over. Not sure if this would make Proto more tempted to join his older sister, or if like canon!Roll he just blindly hates Wily and his second-in-command too much to ever consider this lol. But I think things would be very bitter between him and Rock at times

As for Proto's weapon, idk all the Light siblings are inventors like their father to an extent; Proto definitely likes hand-to-hand combat so punching definitely makes sense, I could still see him maybe making his own blaster like Roll did too, or maybe he does his own thing where he specializes in combat vehicles (like mini fighter jets, or a skycycle equipped with laser canons!)

Since Roll is the older sister, she'd definitely try to coax her younger brothers to join Wily, but also strive to get them to get along with each other (which they'd probably hate lol, though would also grudgingly think she is pretty cool for a bad guy)

So basically the sibling drama would still mostly be between Rock and Proto hahaha

But the real question is...would Roll have the scarf, or would that still be Proto's thing? Hmmm

misc phantom thoughts...

Phantoms feel. gooey? almost. they aren't scaled or anything, or solid (completely). of course this varies type by type; and a heavy phantom may be closer to oobleck (so they feel soft if you slowly push them but when they're slamming onto the ground its like 500lbs of pure mass)

the "fuzzy" phantoms (as described in-book) feel like how mold fuzz feels

electricity isn't something all phantoms have! the kings canonically lack it, but so do heavies (and maybe certain spiked phantoms)

they talk through electricity, though. like that it's own language. they have a verbal language too, though (the weird growls/laughs we hear from them in adventures sometimes)

phantoms can be patterned but generally it's hard to see when they're not under some sort of light. the patterns are minimal, though, and dark in color

Quick Deltarune theory before I forget:

It's said by Ralsei in Chapter 2 that Darkners "reflect the will of their fountain", and that said fountain is created when an individual concentrates their will into a blade or other such sharp object, and stabs the earth with it. I think it's a commonly accepted fan-theory that therefore, darkners would adopt a different will depending on who created their fountain. E.g. in fountains created by the Knight, the resident darkners there are more adverserial than they might otherwise be if somebody such as Noelle created the fountain.

But what happens when their fountain is sealed? Presumably, the objects return to their light-world counterparts and are purged of that will which the fountain imbued in them. Which is why I find it interesting that, when transposed over to Ralsei's dark world, most of the darkners from Chapter 1 and 2 largely keep the traits and mannerisms they had in their "home" worlds.

Now this could be a stretch, but considering all the above, it doesn't seem entirely out of the realm of possibility that whoever created the Classroom and Computer Room fountains also created the Supply Closet fountain, and if we further presume that the Knight, or someone allied with the Knight, is that creator, then that would perhaps suggest that those darkners created in the school supply closet fountain would also, in part, reflect their will...

What could this possibly mean for the future of Deltarune? I... haven't thought that far ahead yet, honestly. But give me a few weeks and I'm sure I can weave something from these disparate threads...!

My new favourite pass time is creating a character who's sole goal is to keep their sibling happy and alive in the face of a never ending prophecy of which they are forced to reincarnate time and time again as the only one who has memories of their past lives only to have their biggest flaw be that they don't even love their sibling anymore; they want to die, to fully finally end it all and be with THEIR sibling, the first incarnation but can't give up on THIS child because it isn't fair and THEIR sibling would never forgive them from where they're watching on in the afterlife - completely unaware THEIR siblings spirit has long ceased to exist, all the while the child believes themselves to have the most loving, devoted older sibling anyone could have, completely unaware that if they could get the first iteration back their sibling would kill them in a heartbeat.
