i think orpheus and icarus are one in the same in the sense that they were both given tasks that the universe(/gods) knew they could not fulfill. orpheus loved eurydice too much to not turn around and icarus yearned for freedom too much to not fly too high. is it fair to call icarus’ love for true freedom hubris when orpheus’ wish to return eurydice to him was equally, if not more, defiant towards the gods? is it fair to call icarus selfish when orpheus’ tale is seen as nothing but love and tragedy, not deluded hubris for the laws of the world?

Quick Animated Character Appreciation: ROTSM Kon-El Gives Me HEART ATTACK
Have I made it clear yet how much I enjoy this version of Kon-El? I don't think I have:
This sugar-high-on-a-1000, raging-hormone/in-puberty, outdated slang-having, cocky kid was the best thing from the Reign of the Supermen movie and the entirety of that two-parter saga. He was such an adorably annoying little showoff and hustler (at least at one point with Clark) who you could tell had mountains more of depth beneath the surface just waiting to jump out! Perfect combination of Clark/Superman and Lex Luthor in every way, too! I love, love, loved it! He was exactly how the character should ideally be written and portrayed imo! (Side Note: Look at the tears that the girl behind him to our right [in the second image] is shedding! She adores this Kon-El that much. And I don't blame her!)
Superboy to a not-actually-dead Superman a few minutes after meeting him: *Probably dumps his ocean-sized amount of trauma onto him which Lex has already put him through in the short amount of time that he and Lex have known each other and been in contact*
"...Seriously. A room full of hungry...bizarros."
A "resurrected", oddly calm yet probably very concerned Superman: "Sounds harrowing."
Superboy, now seeing his chance to hustle a new home with his other dad: "Soo, can I live with you or not?"
Superman with months-worth of 5 o' clock shadow: *Doesn't even get a chance to think it over yet, much less respond, due to them being interrupted by Steel The Third Wheel (but also doesn't say no)*
Gosh I'm so sad/mad we'll never get see him in Superman Media again because they permanently deaded that universe!! 🥺 (Plus they forced us to watch him get slaughtered!!!! 😩) I won't forget him anytime soon though!! He'll stay in my primary color-painted heart!!!! 💛❤️💙

myths about x country winning ww2 alone is simply nationalists isolationist myth making, completely rejecting history that wasn’t even that long ago, and buying into any nation trying to sell it makes you a mark whether you think the americans did it or the soviety union did it

I love Laz but his *checks reference* SIX visible different skin tones are such a pain in the butt sometimes
But that's what happens when you build a vampire out of body parts, eh? (If you can't make progeny by Turning someone, ritual made is fine!)

I’m thinking about Modern!AUs in fanfiction and why sometimes they’re some of my favorite fics and also sometimes the Worst™️. (<-that is a joke. There is no such thing as bad fanfiction, just fanfiction I don’t personally like.)
Because I LOVE Modern!AUs that ask interesting questions about how the setting of a story impacts the characters—how much of the setting can you remove while still being able to recognize the characters in question? All of it? None of it? What new problems would living in a world with planes and phones create for these characters? How are the social and political tensions of the original canon reflected in our own world?
The “problem” (again, not an actual problem, just a personal preference) is that most Modern!AUs COMPLETELY refuse to engage with any of that. They instead become a stale rehashing of the original canon except with lower stakes. Nothing about the modern setting adds interest, and everything interesting from the original setting falls away.
I think that a lot of people write Modern!AU fics to deescalate the conflict of the original canon and give the characters more relatable problems, which isn’t universally terrible, but it can so easily become boring. I don’t WANT to know what it would be like if one of these characters was a florist and the other was a tattoo artist; I want to know what would happen if you gave one of them a gun.

So I knew about early Mormon issues with the US Legal system (not to mention the violence behind the migration to UT and the the 1850s Mormon War) but what I did not know is there’s a specific court case- The People of the State of New York vs Joseph Smith- that had college-aged Smith in hot water because he promised to use his ‘scrying powers’ to find a silver/gold mine in exchange for salaried pay plus free room and board. and then didn’t

sincere question: i'm wondering if i should write or post stuff for my mdzs asian-american/diaspora AU, or if it would be wrong or offensive to.
esp with 1) characters having english names in addition to their chinese ones and 2) knowing there's a fandom diaspora event coming up this may, would me posting for this AU in any capacity take away (?) from actual chinese diaspora fans?
though i am asian-american i'm not specifically chinese so i don't intend to submit to the event... i grew up & still live in an area with a high asian-american population, so a lot of the AU draws upon my personal experiences or anecdotes from friends and former classmates. + i still intend to do additional cultural research
generally i believe that as long as an author does research & portrays with respect and accuracy (sexual minorities, different cultures, or e.x. a career they might know nothing about) it's fine to write but for this i just.... ahhhhh idk
it feels daunting and i worry that it isn't my place to write, even when my knee-jerk reaction is that i'm putting in proper effort & that makes it ok
