Thinking about how the Bartimaeus sequence said 'djinn are slaves in this world, and this world hurts them, and there is a way to make the pain go away, but it means literally cloaking themselves in the skin of their oppressors, and the pain will go away and they have no masters now, but there is no going back and they will remain more trapped than ever before and their face will be the face of the one who tried to trap them, and they can never go home again'

Finished reading the Bartimaeus trilogy, and for the most part I was like "well this is fine but I want to finish it quickly so I can start reading something else", and then the very last chapter wrecked me.

Pairing: Bartimaeus/Nathaniel
Rating: General Audience
Tags: Post-Canon, Post-Book 3: Ptolemy's Gate, Fluff, Domestic Fluff, Sickfic, Major Character Injury, Injury Recovery
Summary: BartNat sick fic. Nathaniel lives (well, almost all of him), Bartimaeus is a brat, they cuddle in bed.
[The link is posted in the comments! I wrote this for @robin-goodfellow a little while ago and finally put it up on the archive cuz I figured out how to make Bart's footnotes work! I don't think the Bartimaeus sequence fandom is very big here on tumblr, so if you're out there come say hi :) Thanks for reading!]

The Amulet of Samarkand: Chapter One animatic
Here's a project I've been working on for a year and a half. It took me a lot longer than I expected and the process of actually animating anything was just 40% of the time I spent on this.
Really hope you like it! Comments and reshares are appreciated!

I'm on PG for my re-read of the Bartimaeus trilogy and I'm going to end it all!!!! I'm ending it all ARAGAHHAHSJSJD IM ENDING IT ALL. AND THE WORLD ALONG WITH ME. I GOT TO THE MS. LUTYENS SCENE. AND I CRIED. AGAIN. This is the third time I read that scene I KNOW what's coming but I can't I can't I can't I can't. I could talk for HOURS about that scene I could talk for HOURS. There is so so SO much about Nathaniel's character in that singular scene. Stroud put so much in there. I could write an entire essay on Nathaniel Underwood with that single scene alone. It makes me so fucking SAD. FUCK. FUCK. IM SO SAD FOR HIM 😭😞😞😞😞😞 IM SO SAD FOR HIM. HE WAS JUST A KID 💔💔💔💔💔 HE'S STILL JUST A *KID* IM WLKWJWJD. I always, always physically cry with this scene it always gets me always always ALWAYS. This scene makes me fall apart and cry more then the death scene like I really can't. I'm. God. God. I'm so distraught.

Rereading the bartimeus sequence as an adult is so funny bc the last time I read it I was 14 and finished it in history class and started crying in the middle of it and then spent the whole lunch break writing a fix it fanfic and rereading it now is crazy bc why was I doing all that.....

You KNOW things are getting bad when suddenly the political state of the British government portrayed in Ptolemy’s Gate is becoming relatable to real life.

Bartimaeus Sequence AU where in Golem's Eye Nathaniel is like "No there is no way I am summoning Bartimaeus again I am not stupid enough to summon a djinni who knows my birth name" but he's desperate to find a competent spirit and then he remembers that Bartimaeus recommended Faquarl's name, and he takes him up on that.
Bonus points if he does summon Bartimaeus but just to confirm that Faquarl was in fact the guy who broke him out of the Tower of London and otherwise fact-check his resume, leaving Bartimaeus torn between not wanting to praise Faquarl or acknowledge his achievements and wanting to get him stuck working with an annoying little twerp.
Double Bonus Points if Faquarl recognizes Nathaniel from the kitchen at Heddleham Hall and figures out what happened, and on one hand thinks the kid will be easier to manipulate than Makepeace, but on the other hand he is not letting Bartimaeus get away with this so he keeps being like: "Oh, well, this sort of thing isn't my area of expertise, but my old associate and worthy adversary Bartimaeus would be perfect for this job." Leading to Nathaniel summoning both of them and the rest of Golem's Eye being a complete disaster of a "buddy" comedy where they bicker the entire time and piss Nathaniel off but he refuses to dismiss either of them because he knows damn well if either one of them wins the "annoy master until he dismisses you first and gets the other one stuck in your service" competition the the other will become even worse.

My mother finished the Empty Grave and thinks the ghost that stalked everyone across dark London was the doctor from Marissa's grave which honestly would make sense. He wasn't trying to menace them; he just wanted to make sure they followed through on the hit he took out on her. Way to make assumptions guys.

Anyone know how the lockwood and co books compare to the bartimaeus ones? The show is adorable with similar basic elements, but in terms of themes thus far it's a lot less.. intense? Adult? Nuanced? Is that true of the books? I'm curious to read but if they're in a similar vein they're probably not my thing

Some Ptolemy (and bird! Bart) designs. I think the urge to reread The Bartimaeus Trilogy is getting onto me...
I was too lazy to do research so I have no idea if this lapwing is accurate or not
I'm trying to feed you, Bartimaeus fandom, please don't die yet, I still want you to like the art I will do after my reread

Nathaniel doing two good things in two days and becoming increasingly confused and panicked about it. I love him. I'm so scared.
