INCOMING MARSHMALLOW SPAM!!!
<3
my baby is now ~4.5 months old. she's already bigger than my full grown polish hen & is now about the size my easter egger & ameracauna were when they were full grown.
since she's a brahma, she'll get even bigger than this. hens don't start laying until around 6-7 months old - minimum. so, we'll see what a big lump she turns into within the next few months!
ps: check out those lil chicky toe feathers!!
thanks for stopping by & checking in 🤠

Well wasn't expecting this until early spring, but...
...first pullet egg!
From one of the Sapphire Gems. Looks like the "painting bay" of her tract isn't fully online yet as the white stipples are shell showing through and not calcium residue.
I mean, I saw one of the girls getting a red comb, but I figured it would just fade again since the daylength isn't right. Probably still will, but she was just gunning to burst out that egg song at least *one* time...
I'll have to show you what I'm using as a nesting box later--it's pretty cute.

How big are pullet chickens normally?
Pullet is just the word for a hen under a year old so they are variable in size same goes for the word cockerel.
So if you have a day old chick that you know is hen then she is a pullet. If you have a chicken who is almost laying but isnt yet, that is also a pullet. If you have a chicken who is laying and is completely grown up but is under a year old, still a pullet.

This completely ridiculous, absolutely gorgeous, constantly hilarious, handful of a cheeky madam just had her FIRST BIRTHDAY!! 🥳🎂🎈🍿🐔 After getting her back up to speed healing an accidental dog bite injury when she was just a week old, then getting her through tapeworms (from her original coop/flock), “failure to thrive,” & correcting a nutrient deficiency that led to a seriously concerning leg & foot joint deformity, all in her first several weeks of life…this chicken has our hearts. She is now no longer a pullet, but a full-grown, egg-laying house hen! 🐓🍳 We so adore her daily antics & big personality, silly screaming & cuddle requests…it’s really quite absurd how much we obsessively love this golden bird & how much joy she brings to our lives! 😻💕 #housechicken #petchicken #popcornthechicken #popcornchicken #bakcyardchickens #whiteleghornxbufforpington #whiteleghorncross #bufforpingtoncross #whiteleghornmix #whiteleghorn #bufforpingtonmix #bufforpington #goldenchicken #chickensofinstagram #emotionalsupportchicken #pullet #hen #chicken #farmlife (at Chicken Coop) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnXKjrhK5gT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Winterized the coop for the girls!! For now it’s still warm enough for just perches but we’ll add their coop again soon.

What's the difference between a pullet and a hen?
Pullet is a female chicken under a year old. Hen is a female chicken over a year old.
Some people call their birds pullets intill they start laying then call them hens but since i breed and i dont like breeding pullets i call them pullets intill they are a year old.
