CasaPapel continuing to earn my trust through avoiding two really gaping obvious pitfalls of stupid writing (defusing artificial tension that clashed with established characters). One plotline where I was worried about the bizarre juxtaposition of misogyny with apparent sympathy resolved itself coherently, and another didn't at all. but, in the end, my fav got her spotlight and i'm happy about that

since i am working with men, grabe lalo ko narerealize kung bakit hirap ako makahanap ng jowa or potential jowa ba. since soft and quiet girl pa lang atake ko, tamang eavesdrop lang ako. mapapa-iling na lang ako in my head sa mga naririnig ko haha boys will always be boys talaga. but that's just me.
tinanong ako ng qaqc supervisor namin if may boyfriend daw ba ako, sinabi kong wala. he asked me if nagkaroon na daw ba ako, sabi ko rin na hindi pa. nagulat ata sya haha strict daw ng tatay ko but to be honest, kaya ko naman ipuslit kung gusto ko diba. pero hindi talaga eh, wala talaga akong nagustuhan na talagang gustong gusto ko. well, most of the time kasi nawawala din naman. ayaw ko lang sagutin si sir na mahirap maghanap ng matinong lalaki ngayon haha genuine relationship naman gusto ko, hindi naman ganon hanap nila. kaya wag na lang din, yon lang bye may pasok na naman

Mass Effect 1 Replay. Finished Hades Gamma, moving over Gemini Sigma:
Farinata
-Juntauma - There's a freighter in orbital decay. It was attacked by raiders, but Shepard finds a Prothean disc on it. How do you miss one of the most valuable artifacts there is???
-MSV Ontario - So. Some biotics are joining cults, others are taking hostages. There's a theme throughout ME1 that human biotics are struggling and not fully accepted by society.
This is another thread dropped in later games - biotics are treated more as a fact of life and human biotics aren't "othered".
-I appreciate that you can go paragon in the hostage situation and still make it very clear that the biotics are going to jail.
Dis
-Jartar - The Leviathan of Dis! C-Space dodged a bullet here when the batarians made off with it.
Is the indoctrination of the batarian government why Reapers leave behind their dead?
The Leviathan, the Delerict Reaper... I have a hard time believing the Reapers just left them behind accidentally.
This is more explicable than the technology that creates husks. Husks just kill indiscriminately; indoctrination creates more flexible tools. Reapers can do far more with indoctrinated agents to guide civilizations than they can husks.
-The Leviathan is estimated to be a billion years old. The cycles have been occurring for a long time.
-Klensal - Batarians falsified mineral surveys to make the planet look more mineral rich than it is. This screwed up several human companies, but to be fair it's because they were trying to screw over the batarians by claiming the planet for humanity.
Once again, I appreciate Bioware's understanding of people. This is exactly the kind of bullshit people do today.
-Not much to say about this mission. Drive up, go into the mine, kill everything that moves.
Han
-Farcrothus - Many of the moons were shaped into an arthropod race half a million years ago. More victims of the Reapers, most likely.
Why do so? Art? Worship?
It's sad that this may be all we ever learn of the race. Given the time frame, they're likely one of the races that the Protheans "uplifted", i.e. absorbed/made into slaves. Not likely to have many records left about them.
-Mavigon - What's up with the trailers not marked on the map with corpses out on front?
This is a Level 2 hazard world. The trailers don't have furniture on them. What were they doing out here? Why are they dead, presumably murdered?
-The "mummified salarian" is a container. I'm getting the impression that the QAQC for the UNC worlds was not very thorough.
-Why does this crime lord have Alliance military turrets? Alliance, please do more thorough audits.
-Not much to say about this mission either. Drive up to base, enter, kill everything that moves.

Lynn Eich Sentenced - False Statements - $2M Restitution
Tumblr media
Project Manager Lynn Eich Sentenced for False Statements Regarding Lead Contamination at City Park, Firm Pays $2 Million Restitution. KANSAS CITY, MO (STL.News) A project manager has been sentenced in federal court for misleading federal authorities about lead contamination in a Granby, Missouri, city park after he was hired to conduct remediation at the site. Lynn Eich, 65, of Dewitt, Iowa, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips on Thursday, June 1, to five years of probation and ordered to pay a $40,000 fine. Eich’s employer, Environmental Quality Management, has paid more than $2 million in restitution in two federal civil settlements.  Environmental Quality Management paid $1,708,748 in a federal civil settlement agreement related to violations of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and $338,119 in a federal civil settlement agreement related to violations of the False Claims Act.  These settlement agreements, executed on April 24, 2023, fully compensate the government for its costs to remove lead contamination from the Granby Park. On July 28, 2022, Eich pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement relating to a federal environmental remediation contract. Eich was employed by Environmental Quality Management as the project manager for a soil remediation project in Newton County, Mo.  The remediation company was awarded a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency, which ultimately totaled nearly $12 million, to perform mine waste remediation at the Newton County Mine Waste Remediation Superfund Site in and around Granby.  This area had been previously contaminated with lead in the surface soil deposited through historical mining and smelting operations in the area. The contract required the removal of contaminated soil and backfilling of some areas, including Granby City Park, using clean fill material.  According to court documents, Eich caused further contamination of the site and then misled federal administrators about the extent of the contamination. Approximately one month before it was awarded the contract for the Newton County project, the remediation company was also awarded an EPA contract in Oronogo, Mo., to complete a similar but larger soil remediation project.  The receipt of both contracts was not expected and caused Eich to request a personnel change to the Newton County project’s Quality Assurance, Quality Control (QAQC) Manager in order to complete both contracts.  Eich represented to the Corps of Engineers that the replacement for the QAQC Manager had comparable experience as the person listed on the original application and that the replacement was qualified to fulfill the duties of a QAQC Manager on the Newton County project.  In fact, the replacement QAQC Manager was not qualified and had little to no experience testing soil for hazardous materials. Between Sept. 12 and Oct. 19, 2016, the QAQC Manager failed to properly test fill material that was used to remediate Granby City Park. On Oct. 14, 2016, the site superintendent, who reported to Eich, received laboratory analysis of two samples taken from the offsite borrow source.  One sample indicated lead levels of 640 mg/kg, and the other indicated a lead level of 720 mg/kg, both in excess of the contractual requirement of less than 100 mg/kg.  The results of these samples were not reported to the EPA or the Corps of Engineers as required by federal environmental laws. On June 4, 2018, Eich called the Corps of Engineers and indicated that a “hot spot” had been detected in Granby City Park.  However, during the call, Eich misrepresented the scope of the area of contamination at the park by stating that it was less than 1,000 cubic yards.  Eich also submitted a map of Granby City Park that showed a limited area of contamination when, as Eich knew, lead contamination was pervasive throughout the entire park. Eich admitted that he intentionally made this false statement and provided false information regarding the scope and amount of lead contamination at Granby City Park. The EPA then conducted its own sampling of Granby City Park, followed by additional sampling by the EPA National Enforcement Investigations Center, which found Granby City Park was still contaminated by lead in the soil.  The EPA was required to hire another remediation contractor to conduct a removal project of Granby City Park.  The removal project required the removal of the contaminated backfill and soil from the park to ensure the health and safety of the community.  The removal project was completed in June 2021, resulting in additional costs to the EPA. This criminal case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brent Venneman and Casey Clark.  It was investigated by the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Inspector General; the Environmental Protection Agency Criminal Investigative Division; the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General, Defense Criminal Investigative Service; and the Army Criminal Investigative Division, Major Procurement Fraud Unit. The civil cases were executed by the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Regional Counsel and the U.S. Attorney’s Office Civil Division Chief Jeff Ray. The System, The Authority, The Future
It’s 11.20pm, Saturday. Sitting in my room trying to write something before I take my leave from this company, whom I’ve been working for almost 4 years.
Haven’t wrote anything in awhile apart from filling up some work forms and signing a few documents. Those are automated things since I’ve been doing it over and over for the past years. Well, I guess I’m writing this is so that maybe one day, I’ll read back and reminisce all the memories and remember my roots where I’ve grown, professionally.
Nakano has taught me numerous things and have helped me developed so many skills, personally and professionally. The thing I would like to cherish the most is the methods used to manage different parts of the organisation into a single system. The idea is to have better communication and tracking system which can be used to provide evidence should it is needed. Particularly speaking for HSE&QA departments.
The manager and his assistant and I believe few other key personnel has thought thoroughly on how to counter or protect ourselves should the train we’re boarding derailed from its tracks. Referring to accidents that may cause property damage, injuries, or worst, death and deaths. Yes, it can be single or multiple. Either way, all of them are bad.
I’ve understood in our department, we are dealing with different things and different authorities. For QAQC, I’d like to believe that their job is to ensure that the work done is up to the client’s standard or at least up to a certain satisfactory level. This involves a lot of confirmation even before the work can proceed. From the choice of material used and methods to conduct the works as it affects the finishes. I don’t know much about quality, but I do know about safety, or at least I think I do. Here we go.
In terms for health, safety, and environment, I also believe that preparation is best to be constructed before the work even start. A popular method to ensure continuous improvement or as the Japanese calls it “Kaizen” is to use the PDCA method. Popularised by Toyota (if I recall correctly). It is an abbreviation for the steps involved in the cycle to improvement. Plan, Do, Check, and Act.
Plan. One or an organization must have a plan. I won’t deny that sometimes it is nice to just jump the cliff and dive into the water, but it cannot and should not be done when others safety is at stake or when funding is involved. A carefully constructed plan must be in place first-hand even though most of the time it won’t be as we predicted it would be. That is where the system comes in.
Do is the part where we act out our plan. However, the most important part in the cycle other than planning is checking, monitoring, and supervising. This part should be done together in the DOING stage to ensure that the plan is working or to seek for an opportunity to improve the plan which in return could save resources or better protect those at work.
The person who has been given the responsibility to supervise and monitor have the power to temporary halt or stop the activities should he finds any hazard (source or condition that have possibility to  cause harm to safety and health or damage to property) present while the job is being conducted.
Identified hazard then should be analysed for its risk and appropriate control measures are to be considered and put in place before the activity can continue.
HSE personnel are taught to use the Hierarchy of Control when considering appropriate control measure to ensure all options are considered from the most effective to the least effective. Given Elimination, Substitution, Isolation, Engineering Control, Administrative Control and lastly, Personal Protective Equipment. Definitions for these controls will be written in another day. Let’s continue for now.
Once the appropriate control measure is in place, only then the work can be continued with the cycle continues alongside with it.
I highly believe that this is the core duties of a safety supervisor or any other supervisor. To ensure every soul working in his or hers designated premises are constantly safe from start to the end of their shifts.
Shit, I’ve derailed to much from my original purpose of writing this entry.
I would like to talk about what I’ve cherished the most working with Nakano. Nakano is normally the main contractor for projects. We’ve been doing mainly commercial, factories and warehouses. Structure wise are fairly simple. The thing that interests me the most are mostly the mechanical and electrical systems used to power up and run the factory itself.
The manufacturing industry is progressing more and more each year with robotic and automated systems being used widely from storage, delivery and many other. Working with Nakano (construction) has allowed me to peek on what is happening and progressing inside the manufacturing industry. Simply amazing though I hope it will never come to a day where job opportunity for humans are vanished and awarded to robots because maybe one day I’ll quit working under the extreme weather and harsh conditions and take shade in the boundaries of a prestigious manufacturing organization. Perks are really good as I’ve heard.
Being part of the main contractor has awarded me with a higher power over other contractors who are working with us, including of their personnel. I feel like it is easier to convey or force an idea to someone when you have the authority.
Some would see my transition from working with  main contractor to a sub-contractor to be a downgrade of some sort. At times, I would feel the same. However, I figure it would be humbling and a great opportunity to learn more about leadership and decision making which could help me in my professional career in the future. Of course, I do believe I am currently able of these things, but I would rather not rush it. Much more to learn and knowledge to acquire before I can lead a team. The time will come.
All in all, it has been a great run with them and at times, a roller-coaster ride. I believe it’s time for me walk away and learn new things and maybe, just maybe, share what I’ve learnt.
 Much love, professionally,
Your protector.
