Karl Tremblay, from the band Les Cowboys Fringants (literally The Dashing Cowboys), has lost his battle against cancer a few hours ago, at 47 years old. He leaves behind his bandmates, his wife and their 2 kids.
I wasn’t a die hard fan of his band, but with a 25 year-long career, his songs were on the radio throughout the years of my (so far) short life, and sprinkled along key moments of my life and my nation’s history and social battles.
They were environmentalists, fiercely in favor of an independent Quebec, and very much left-wing. Their songs reflected that.
They were country, but also folk and rock.
He sang about love, about going shopping to Plattsburg, about welcoming your sister back after she moved out of home. But he also sang about preserving nature, and against consumerism. He sang about regular life, and how short it is.
It is indeed very short. His was too short.
I wasn’t a die hard fan, but I find myself crying every time I see a video or a post about him.
To quote a comment I saw on social media, heaven is too greedy.
I know this isn't Wttt related, but it's a really sad thing for us Québécois today.
The singer of Les Cowboys Fringants died today, from Prostate cancer. His group is central to Québec's culture; the songs they wrote are reflecting of our worlds problems and how we fit in it, while also defending our place in this world.
Rest in Peace Karl Tremblay, you were an amazing song writer.
Les maisons toutes pareilles - Les Cowboys Fringants (Translated)
[Verse 1]
I've got my 5000 square feet.
The biggest one in the neighborhood,
that's flat like the bottom of a bottle
where all the houses look the same
The pre-menstrual symptoms
of an all-too-personal bankruptcy.
Outdooring gear in the living room,
"for sale" sign on the front lawn.
I've got an ex-wife who wants me dead,
my kids one week out of two,
and a psychiatrist really sick
who listens to me bitch for a hundred bucks
Sure, i'm not making anyone cry,
with my little first-world heartaches.
In an era full of distortion,
everyone's joy sounds a little warped.
[Chorus]
But as soon as the dawn rises
on all the identical houses.
Life suddenly reclaims it's turn,
and you can forget the countdown, oh.
And like billions of people,
I'll make myself believe it's all okay
as long as the sun rises
over all the identical houses.
[Verse 2]
Like so many of my contemporaries
I practice the "all-is-well"
I give my tacit agreement
to the triumph of a crumbling world.
A fucked-up climate, ecocide,
it's so shitty being lucid.
I'd rather flip the switch to "off"
while I wait for the catastrophe.
[Chorus]
But as soon as the dawn rises
on all the identical houses.
Life suddenly reclaims it's turn,
and you can forget the countdown, oh.
And like billions of people,
I'll make myself believe it's all okay
as long as the sun rises
over all the identical houses.
[Bridge]
When nightfall encroaches on the sun,
above the houses that all look the same.
I'm by myself in my place,
with my generation, face-to-face,
And i hear it, the tolling bell
and it's just not true that I can't be fucked.
In an era filled with of distortion,
everyone's joy sounds a little warped.
[Chorus]
But as soon as the dawn rises
on all the identical houses.
Life suddenly reclaims it's turn,
and you can forget the countdown, oh.
And like billions of people,
I'll make myself believe it's all okay
as long as the sun rises
over all the identical houses.
I need vulture culture practitioners in Ontario!!!
As some of you guys know, I’m currently in school for documentary film. A large portion of that involves actually making my first film (ahhhh) under supervision from my mentor. I’ve decided that film is going to be about vulture culture.
I’m still in the early research & development stages at the moment! Planning for shooting to take place in spring/summer 2024.
I’m looking for participants who would be willing to do interviews, show me their collections, their workspaces (yes, i want to smell the maceration soup), and take me along on any vulture activities.
If you’re interested, send me an email at [email protected] with a little about yourself, any social media links, photos of your work. Make sure to let me know what city in Ontario you’re located in!!
Tests that detect drugs commonly used to intoxicate people without their consent are now available in emergency rooms across Quebec.
The tests can detect more than 200 psychoactive substances including GHB, commonly known as the date-rape drug. But, because these drugs are metabolized quickly, the tests must be done within 10 to 48 hours of the intoxication, depending on the substance.
"This is good news," said Karine Gagnon, a co-ordinator with Crime Victims Assistance Centres (CAVAC). "It's a response that victims of events like these wanted."

- Achaler/achalant:
Déranger, agacer, importuner.
- Asteur:
Maintenant, à l’instant.
Expressions
Auto-pelure-de-bananiser (autopeluredebananiser)
Se nuire à soi-même, sans aide extérieure. (Peu utilisé, mais tellement savoureux)
Avoir de l’eau dans cave
Avoir des pantalons trop courts
Avoir des croutes à manger
Avoir beaucoup de choses à apprendre. Devoir acquérir de l’expérience.
So im canadian. Poutine is our national dish (i dont know officially but like.. it is) tonight for dinner i made a poutine with gnocchi instead of fries and someone on tiktok accused me of cultural appropriation. People really will just say anything.
