#DearWhitePeople is #SOGOOD!! It basically starts where the movie left off. You’ll still #laugh & “get it” even if you didn’t #watch the #movie, but it’s so much better when you already have the movie as a foundation for the premise, characters, & the layered & poignant #messages.

I think this #Netflix #show is better than the movie tbh. I remember feeling a little underwhelmed after I finished the movie like there was so much more that could’ve been said & done. I remember I thought to myself “Okay, well, I did it for ‘the culture’”, meaning I watched this movie that is considered to be a bold statement to the majority & is a contribution in pushing all of us forward in addressing the problems within our unique social structure in #America.

The show has the potential to go even deeper. It already addresses many known perspectives on #race & #racism. #Colorism: #teamlightskin vs #teamdarkskin BS. Why some black people choose to assimilate and/or believe they can create change within the system of #whitesupremacy (or ignore the issues altogether) while others choose to become “agitators” & believe the #revolution will not be televised. It also gives voice to #whitepeople & some of their perspectives. There’s the attitude that the #blackpeople who constantly “complain” about #slavery & focus on the current injustices of #racismwhitesupremacy are actually the racist ones for pointing out inequality. *rolls eyes* Then there are white people who see & hate all the racist BS, but may feel like they’re damned if they do & damned if they don’t. It also shows black people a lot of our own BS when it comes to our assumptions & behaviors towards each other & white people. Layers…

Ultimately, it’s really well done & it has the potential to satisfy my personal expectations I had for the movie. It definitely can be a tool to unpack this racist stink bomb #Americans generationally ignore.
