These are a couple pics from my trip to Durand Michigan yesterday. That is the old train station there on the left.
Still looking west I can see that all those red lights mean there are no trains coming from behind me. I then went inside the station to look around.
That’s when this one snuck in eastbound. I missed the two engines. I did not hear it coming because Durand is a “no-train-horn” zone. A local ordinance keeps things quiet because so many trains go through here because of the rail yard.
Saw some cool looking graffiti on some of the cars. These rail cars are headed east to Flint Michigan to get loaded up with pickup trucks and cars again. It was the only train I saw.
Had a Christmas surprise on Christmas day! CNAOK1-26 had UP 1995 [Chicago & Northwestern heritage] on home rails trailfailing in La Fox! After 7 years of many missed opportunities and failures, I finally have my shots, AND with the new camera! Also a Westbound coal with an NS leader.
Rumbling pass Roy Station, Union Pacific AC44CW No. 7221 and ES44AC No. 7520 (built originally as an AC6000CW) have left Ogden and are proceeding South with a train of grain hoppers. Although off camera, AC44CW No. 6331 (Ex-Southern Pacific 218) is at the back of the train serving as a DPU unit.

Emporia Kansas This set contains photos that I have taken while traveling to and from the Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modeling Society Mini Meet held annually in Kansas City. The event is typically in November so many of the slides were dreary and dark. Those that aren't invariably have the best sun on the trailing part of the train. I decided to "celebrate" these realities as part of the experience. Most of these photos are scanned Kodachrome 64 slides.
Former home of railfan, photographer, and author, Lucius Beebe, the Amtrak certified luxurious private railcar, the Virginia City, is currently for sale (early 2024). Price comparable to a nice Bay Area home. If I don't win the Powerball this week, I hope that whoever purchases it keeps tagging the tail of Amtrak trains with it!
Serendipitously a few Sothern Pacific railfan videos have popped up on YT, featuring the Virginia City
