Some *really* exciting kimchi purchases, thank you Daily Yamazaki! The kimchi marinated atsuage tofu is life-changing. So delicious and satisfying. I was so surprised by the intensity and depth of flavor. My only caution is that the liquid alone is not sufficient to season a stirfry, which is disappointing because I'm lazy, but I guess I do know how to make a sauce.

Also got kimchi rakkyo (pearl onions? Chinese scallions?), which are amazing too! The sweetness is a really nice contrast to the kimchi flavor, and I love the crisp, layered texture.

Fragaria Memories Collab Cafe menu translation

I'm sure a translation is already out there, but I'll throw my hat in the ring for the fun of it. At the moment I've only translated the titles, but I'll probably come back and translate all the descriptions. I'm no professional by any means (a lot of my translations are purely vibe-based) and I'll leave notes for things that are weird.

As always, feel free to let me know if anything's off with the translations! My ask box is open (and I believe you can comment anonymously if you'd like).

(Also pleasantly surprised that the menu is pretty broad compared to a lot of collab cafes I've seen. I think the speculation was that we'd get a main meal per Bouquet and then some random sides or drinks.)

FOOD MENU:

Notes:

I'm sure people know about rakkyo, but for the sake of it I'll just note that this is what it is. It's a side dish often paired with Japanese curry.

So this by far gave me the most trouble, mostly because I had no idea what マンリーメス is and any articles on it were from 2017 about a cafe in Japan claiming that they're popular in Australia. (They weren't, from what I can tell.) A theory posed to me is that a cafe somewhere in Australia (likely Manly, Sydney) had an eton mess on their menu called a "Manly Mess".

Noting here that I... really have no idea what Merold's dish's title actually is. This is my best guess considering the kanji and the vibes I get from it.

Whatever's going on with Pikero's dish, I had a hard time translating it. There's nothing really implying that the matcha whipped cream is made from 'your logic' nor is that really the vibe I get, but I'm not quite sure how else to translate it.

Just wanted to note here that "white water" probably means it's a yoghurt-based drink, according to one of my sources.

do you think the difference in the MEDP of ryougi vs tohno could be related to the state of their timelines? while the root is Outside The World it still has to be reached through The World. given that rakkyo seems these days to exist in a fate/strong human order timeline, maybe their comparative safeness for ryougi is due to the world being alaya/the human order and sympathetic to a human, rather than being gaia and hostile to humans

Arcueid doesn't seem to think so.

It appears that Ryougi is simply built different, and is able to handle the strain of comprehending conceptual death better than Tohno can.

My years old theory for the difference in their MEoDP was /how/ Ryougi and Tohno gained Death Perception.

Ryougi gaining the MEoDP was an inevitability, due to her origin of Nothingness. Araya, an expert in spirit origins, was already stalking Ryougi from her highschool years, expecting the Eyes to develop in her and SHIKI due to their connection to the Root itself. When he happens upon SHIKI and Mikiya, he even says "too early", meaning he fully expected her to get the eyes eventually.

Since the MEoDP are direct connections to the Root itself and Ryougi's soul IS the Root's power, then Araya expecting the eyes' manifestation to be inevitable makes a lot of sense.

Tohno's eyes on the other hand, were a freak accident. The Nanaya clan members do not have Mystic Eyes. As demon hunters, they have Pure Eyes (just like Kintoki is mentioned to have in the latest FGO chapter in global) that allow them to see things invisible to human eyes, important tools for people who have to fight supernatural foes like oni for a living.

However, Shiki survived a very fatal wound called "getting his chest torn the fuck open by oni claws" due to a still unexplained ability from Akiha that resulted in binding his life to hers. That is to say, Shiki is basically a dead man walking, the only thing keeping him animated is him feeding off of Akiha's own life like a parasite.

This closeness to death is why his body's so weak and anemic, but it also altered his Pure Eyes into the MEoDP. As we've seen from the Arcueid route where Roa attempts to copy them, Tohno's eyes are very much the real deal and beyond proper replication by magecraft, even if his eyes work really differently from Ryougi's.

Basically, my theory says their eyes act differently because Ryougi's MEoDP is an extension of her natural power due to her spirit origin, while Tohno's is because he's actually technically dead, and thus is comprehending death and the connection of all existence to the Root on a constant basis. He is dead and so his eyes see death in everything, but he /isn't/ dead because Akiha's a freak of nature able to keep him going.

Champion’s Curry was founded in 1961 in Kanazawa, Japan and became a chain known for inventing a new stye of Japanese curry, Kanazawa curry. Kanazawa curry is thicker, darker, and deeper in flavor compared to other Japanese curries. The curry is made with beef, pork, fish, and more.

Champion’s Curry has a fast casual format. Place your order on the iPad and they’ll call your number when your order is ready. The restaurant is small and looks like a fast food place with counter seating. The menu isn’t posted. It includes curry rice (with pork, chicken, beef, fish, or veggies), katsu sandwiches, salads, fries, and desserts. You can specify how spicy you’d like your curry to be.

Fish katsu curry ($15.50): Panko breaded white fish, spicy curry, tomato rakkyo salsa, cilantro aioli sauce, chives, and steamed white rice. The fish was perfectly fried with a thin, crispy panko batter. There were two big pieces of fried fish. I couldn’t really taste the cilantro aioli on top of the fish, but that’s because the curry has so much rich flavor. The curry is sweet, savory, complex. I missed the fresh cabbage Japanese curry is usually served with but the tomato and onion condiment was tastier than plain cabbage. There was an ample amount of curry sauce too and it was surprisingly spicy. I like to mix everything together.

Service was friendly. The food arrived quickly too.

Fukiage Beach, which is counted as one of Japan's three largest sand dunes, faces the East China Sea on the west coast of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. "Fukiagehama" is the longest sand dune in Japan. Originating in China, it was introduced to Japan as a medicinal plant during the Heian period, and is said to have been cultivated as a vegetable since the Edo period. It is cultivated mainly in Minamisatsuma and Satsumasendai, and seems to be shipped from April to June.
