THE TAKE 2 Studio Sessions for RCA · December 13, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis Please, read what Ernst Jorgensen says about the moment "My Boy" was being recorded, and listen to the take. -- The next night Elvis began with a song from his live repertoire, “My Boy,” which had been included in the August Las Vegas show. The song told the traumatic tale of losing a child through divorce, but Elvis wanted to be done with it fast. When Felton pushed for a third take, he exploded: “I told you to get this goddamn thing in two takes. I can’t sing it no more.” Take three was actually better; it lacked the long fade out Felton wanted, but he knew better than to ask for another, confident that he could loop it in mixing to get the effect he wanted. Foreword by Peter Guralnick (1998) -- So, when I first read this part of Jorgensen's book I hadn't listen to that take yet, but now that I did I don't take Elvis' comment as "he exploded", do you? If that was Elvis exploding, I have to reconsider a lot of the stories about his supposed short-tempered moments. Just saying. He sounded pretty like just casually commenting rather than snapping at Felton like the description of the moment made it look like. Still, I personally think that comment came for a reason, maybe EP was too polite - or too embarrassed - to show how affected by the lyrics of that song he was. Billie's panicked face above the newborn covered in yellow shit caused Gianna to simultaneously laugh and take a step back. "Oh girl, absolutely 100% I will." serves her right, making her a grandma at such young age. She wasn't even qualified enough to be a mother, let alone a grandmother. She never really liked babies to begin with. "Hey look, I'm sure the kid an' I will get along when he's like...five? When do they learn to speak again?" kids were cool, and she would definitely stick around so their daddy don't become the favourite. But she will not be guilt tripped into dipper duty, not now not ever.

"Look, you're doing great Bee, I'll bring you those cinnamon rolls you like from that French coffee 'round the corner. I'm runnin' late for brunch. Today I get to tell Randy his polls are down, it's a joyous, joyous morning indeed."

The baby is pissing now, just as Billie managed some of the poop. Perhaps if it pukes next she'll be able to chill for an hour before the boobie time. Poor Billie, Gia sure hoped Briggs would be back soon. As soon as she leaves of course. Rylan Hitchcock is the worst guy on Earth.

While on the immediate surface, anyone would think I’m exaggerating, but I’ve learned that just below the surface one finds he’s truly the devil embodying a nineteen-year-old bastard.

He’s the town's biggest known secret. Everyone knows him and it always feels like everyone hates him too. Rylan makes sure of it, flaunting himself like a punked-out peacock except instead of presenting for some tail, he’s looking for a fight. Fights he’ll always win because a man like that never fights clean simply because Rylan Hitchcock doesn’t have an honorable bone in his body. Crotch shots and gang-ups until someone stops him or he gets bored. Rylan is Satan’s favorite bully.

A bully is bad enough but it’s another thing when that bully is bigger than you. Way bigger. Rylan is like a cougar, you never see him hiding until it’s far too late. He’s a big cat with leering eyes and bloody claws.

And he’s tall.

Really tall.

Teachers have to look up at him tall, tall enough that he’ll mock you by bending down to your eye level. I’ve heard rumors that he’s 6’7 but that’s only when he isn’t wearing heels. He always wears heels. Thick-heeled leather boots that break your nose when it comes crashing down on you.

I would know, that’s how we “properly” met.

I don’t even remember what the excuse was or if there even was one, to begin with. I just remember that I bumped into one of his friends on the way to class but he was gone before I could apologize. The next passing period, I was dragged into the bathroom, and all I remember of that “fight” was the strong taste of snotty pennies, the growing pain swelling in my face, and the cold wet linoleum tiles on the floor. I couldn’t believe it really happened but reality settled in with black swallowing the corners of my vision. My mind couldn’t process the threats and jeers he must have been making though I swear all I could hear was the stupid laugh of him and his friends.

I couldn’t believe a guy like this had friends. Three friends. The one I bumped into was Simon, a guy that I’d never seen without headphones or speak a single word. Klaus is short and reminds me of a goblin and apparently, he shaved his eyebrows off during the summer. Then there's Axel. 

Axel is the only one I can stand because he was the one who told Rylan I’d had enough. Asking around I learned he came to this tiny town from overseas, I think the Netherlands, and Rylan quickly scooped him into his gang. Being an outsider here must be the only reason Axel has the balls to be Rylan’s breaks.

Axel was the one who helped me stand and helped take me to the nurse’s office. 

I remember I asked him why he hung out with someone like Rylan. The other two I had an answer for, Simon and Klaus were terrible like him. Yet I had deemed Axel different in my brain. I don’t think he answered my question, only dumped me off at the office before turning to leave. I thanked him, I think.

I’m never going to forget that. I’m never going to forget that Rylan is violent, that he’s crass, and that he’s stupidly tall. I’m never forgetting that taste of snotty pennies in the back of my throat that reappears every time I see him across the hallways.

My nose didn’t heal right after that attack. A constant reminder of him in the mirror and a constant reminder to watch my back. I never really felt scared of another person until that day but simply walking to classes the rest of the week felt like I was a deer trying to survive but constantly spooked by the idea of a mountain lion staring me down. 

Rylan Hitchcock is the worst guy in my life.

ONE YEAR LATER -- GIANNA MADDEN

After her daughter left New Orleans with her husband due to reasons pertaining to choices of the original family, Gianna returned to Washington DC to resume her work on the front lines. Having learnt how deeply intersectional the issues of humans and supernaturals had become, and how the OEA was conducting themselves with impunity against the governments suggestions, she focused on forming bonds internationally.

By working behind the scenes (as she often did) Gia found that the issue of power struggle and deliberate separation between 'us' and 'them' was damaging any prospects for a peaceful future between humans and the supernaturals. This sparked the fire she had lost since entering politics, the fire which got fuelled by desire for change and unity. Through this desire she began working with lawyers, international human rights activists and a spectacularly established team from both sides to create laws and international treaties regarding human/supernatural relations so that each side may be held accountable for their actions in the future.

Part of the reason she is working to establish these legal frameworks is to protect her own daughter from a world that was becoming increasingly more dangerous, to get revenge against the OEA which had once killed her, and many like her without any consequences to their actions. Quite simply, she will do anything in her power to rid them of their impunity and put them behind bars.

She tries to reach out to Billie as much as she can, but it is an effort that will likely take a lifetime. She is confident enough of Briggs to keep the other safe which is why she has not dispatched any secret bodyguard services to 'keep an eye out'.

Her intentions with Billie remain pure and she's still keeping her a secret from the public for girls own safety reasons. Now that Gia is working on an international scale the safety of her daughter becomes even more at risk.

Gia is still married to Ellis, and after his finding out about her daughter she has been feeling particularly on edge around the other. Though she's postponed talking about it or explaining herself, she has confirmed Billie is her biological daughter and maintained that the rest of it is none of his business.

Being back in New Orleans is purely a business decision, though she refused at first because Randy still exists and she still hates his guts. However, it is now an opinion of some of her colleagues that she should stay close to one of the largest OEA bases and attempt to get as many of their charters and documents as possible for the future.
