I just rewatched Rango (2011), and DAMN. I forgot how much I love the character designs. Perhaps most of all, 'Rattlesnake Jake'.

After watching it, I kinda fell down a rabbithole of character designs and their respective humanisations, and came up with my own idea for how he would look as a human. But, because I can't draw for shit, I'll type it out.

Silence fell upon Dirts main street as ambiant noise quickly died down, and was replaced with shutters closing and doors slamming. Something wasn't right as Rango got to his feet from his bunk and peered out the window.

The man was tall, skinny and imposing as he strolled into town and down the main street slowly without a horse in sight. How did he get here? Sheriffs office gave view to the vast sand flats which encompassed the town for miles around. It would've shown him hours prior to his arrival, and yet he just appears without even a ride to hitch him.

From the distance, Rango couldn't make out any features of the wraith-like figure with leisurely walked down the middle of the road aside from his leather durby hat and ribbed off-black dusters trenchcoat.

Ribbed?

No, as he got closer, Rango saw that the man was almost tied up in ammunition belts and slings, with a very prominate one leading directly through the front of his coat as Rango realised that the man only had his left arm out, while his right left his right sleeve empty, resting hidden inside his coat.

"Rattlesnake Jake. You're in for it this time Sheriff." Murmered Priscilla who had almost appeared beside him.

"Rattlesnake?" Rango questioned.

"Hm-hm. Rattlesnake, after the sound of his gun it makes before it fires." She answered simply with childlike innocence. "Are you sure I can't have your boots?"

Rango didn't bother to answer this time as he more cautiously looked through the glass.

Jake had stopped in the center of the road now, waiting for the audience he had just gotten as dozens of other scared eyes looked at him from other windows.

With a showmans flare and sadistic smile, Jake slowly moved his right arm forwards and out of his coat to reveal what everyone knew he was hiding. His trenchcoat opened up to show a weapon Rango had never seen before, but knew deep down that it was a gun, and was dangerous.

The gun had twelve small barrels protruding from the end, attached to a rotary machine gun stolen from lawmen. One of a kind, fashioned over many years with stolen knowledge and parts to create a unqiuely devestating device. With how long it was, there was no denying that the gun looked more like a rattlesnake tail, and most likely rattled to no end with its dodgy craftmanship.

Finally as the last part of the gun exited the coat, Rango saw the rest of the arm holding the weapon, or, more bolted onto it. Massive leather straps held it and the mans arm in place with massive screws attached in all places. It appeared that Jake had given up the idea of ever letting go of his gun and fixed it to make it be literally another appendage of himself.

Rango's first morning as Dirt's new Sheriff. He's still a bit sleepy after patrolling at night and getting settled in but a Sheriff needs to be ready in the morning even if its 6:00 am.

Something I only just realized about the movie Rango is that most of the townsfolk wear full western attire, which makes it kind of weird that Rango just waltzed into town one day without wearing any pants or shoes.

naked-ass lizard. Letting his chameleoaca hang out in the wind. Probably spent the next three days trying to get sand out from under his toenails.
