What about Alina for the bingo meme thingy?
That's three for three on Magireco characters, I'm both surprised and also not, ehe Anyways of course Alina, everybody's favorite Mad Artist!
I think Alina has my favorite Magireco meguca design actually -- I love the slick 'uniform' design, which is ironic given how much I hated uniforms in school. It's probably the difference between 'Catholic schoolgirl uniform' and 'military-esque uniform but without the guilt of being actually military.' Or something. As someone who also does art stuffs, even though obviously I'm a) not a pro, and b) nowhere near Alina's talent level, BOY do I feel for her. Some art critics are the damned scum of the Earth. As of Arc 2 ending, we have her full motives and viewpoint on her art vs. the state of the world, and I love that they clarified her actual views instead of her while being influenced by Mikoto. As I've mentioned, my mother was a paramedic (and firefighter, god damn woman this is why you needed heart surgery!), and therefore I've had a lot of exposure to stories of disasters and crises, and of people putting their lives on the line for others and giving a middle finger to Death. (Example A: someone who jumped into the Potomac in the middle of winter to save someone who was drowning because a bridge collapsed. It's cold as fuck in DC in the winter, it's a surprise he didn't end up hypothermic.) So, I can agree with Alina for once: human nature shines at its brightest when facing impossible odds.
Whoops I gave a small ramble sorry all. Either way, thanks for this one Anon, and to the rest of y'all, I'm still taking these if you want to see me ramble over someone else ^ ^
#i initially reblogged this ask meme because i saw someone grumbling about lack of content in the exe tag#and was expecting that someone would throw a character from that cast at me#i guess i should've realized that most of the folks following me are here for magireco ^ ^;#(i'm going to convert y'all give it time)#this answer took a minute because I had to start processing the parents' laundry because they drove like halfway across the state today#the long way#so like almost 4 hours i think#anyways#alina gray#anonymous#ask meme#character bingo#rapo answers

I think I'd make a pretty girlfriend
Summary: Mari and Jowee have some bad news for each other.
(Also Available on ao3)
💕
Mari sat in the sand, watching the waves go in and out. She sighed, lost in thought. "Oh Creator, how can I possibly tell him?" She had caught herself many times staring at rapogirls. How could she not? With the way that Raposa women carried themselves making Mari so flustered in ways that men didn't seem to.
But she had to feel the same for the rapoboys. She had to! She had one as a husband! What was she supposed to say? That the love they shared all those years was untrue? That she lied to him?
Mari buried her feet in the sand. No. She didn't lie! Those feelings were real! How could she possibly imagine such a thing?! Mari sat there, bewildered. Maybe Jowee was an exception? Maybe she really did like boys? Maybe it was never real?
And yet. She knew she liked girls. "Rapo, what do I do? He's going to be so heartbroken..."
Jowee wandered Rapoville, searching for Mari. He took his time, as he needed to think. "Rapo, what will she think of me?"
He had a dream once. Where Wilfre had returned to his evil ways and put a curse on him. But it was nice. The curse. After all, he'd thought about it many times before.
But he only ever thought about how much he thought about it recently. Like how he always wanted to know what being one was like. Or how he sometimes found himself crying at night at the idea of never getting to be one. Or that one time he asked Mari if he could pass as one if he really really tried. ...And then he told her that he thought he'd make a pretty girl.
Yeah.. That's it. A rapogirl. That's what he was. Or maybe she? Jowee didn't really know yet.
Besides, the thought of actually being a woman still felt new to Jowee. He could hardly believe that just like all those Rapo women, he too was not only handsome but beautiful. In the all ways that they were. Jowee sighed, longingly daydreaming of being among pretty girls.
Then he thought of Mari. Oh Mari. She was always the most amazing and gorgeous woman Jowee had ever known.
He looked down at himself. "How can I possibly live up to her?" Jowee shook. He could never be as pretty of a girl as her. Never.
And what would she even do with a girl Jowee? Does she even like girls?! Would she still want him? If he was a her? If he was a woman?
Jowee stood there, crying. No. How could someone so perfect love someone like Jowee? She didn't sign up for Jowee!! She signed up for whoever she thought Jowee was! Mari!! Mari!!! Why did he have to love her so much? Why couldn't Jowee just be the rapoboy she signed up for?!
Jowee hyperventilated. Oh Creator he felt so stupid!! Why couldn't he have figured it out sooner? Maybe then he wouldn't have to break her heart!
Raposa passerby looked at Jowee, concerned.
Jowee, holding to his chest, tried to slow his breath. He was thinking too hard. Jumping ahead to every worst case scenario. Even if Mari stopped loving him, she would still be his best friend. Besides, Jowee couldn't keep it a secret forever. He took a deep breath. "It's okay, It'll be okay..." Then he walked to the secret beach, knowing she'd be there.
Mari stared out into the sea, praying that some kind of answer would come, when Jowee arrived. "Mari?"
She sighed. "Hi Jowee."
"I've been looking for you."
Mari faintly smiled, before frowning again.
"I... I wanna talk."
"Me too."
"...You okay?" Jowee asked. He knew Mari liked going to their secret beach whenever she was upset. Oh Creator, why was she upset? Does she know?
She fiddled with her neck scarf. Oh Creator, maybe he already knows... "I have bad news."
"Oh." Oh Rapo! She definitely knows!! "...I have bad news too."
"Oh.." She paused. "My news is pretty big... Do you want to go first?"
Jowee froze. "U-um.." Normally Jowee would've been happy to take some pressure off Mari, but. He choked. He couldn't do it. "Y-you go first..."
"Uh, okay..." She took a deep breath. "I... I..."
Jowee put a paw on her shoulder. "Go on."
"I... I like girls!"
"Oh!" Maybe she didn't know after all. Maybe... she will still love him if she did! "Cool!"
"I'm so sorry, Jowee, I- Wait, did you say-? You're... not upset?"
"No way! Why would I be? Girls are awesome!" Jowee grinned. "Besides, I kinda figured you also liked girls."
"But-" Mari was confused. "You don't understand, I like girls and-" She paused. "...Only girls."
"Oooh." That explains things. A lot of things.
Mari sighed. "Jowee, I really really like you. And I wish we could stay like this, but I don't know..." Tears fell down her cheeks. "I don't know if this can work anymore..." Her voice trembled.
Jowee embraced her in a hug. "It's okay. It's okay. We can change this."
"How? How can we possibly save this?"
Jowee thought for a moment. "I think I have good news."
"Huh?"
"I'm..." Jowee took a deep breath. "I'm a rapogirl."
"...What?"
"Uh-" Jowee's face grew warm. "I-I know, I know, it's a lot! And it's not what you signed up for. But I've been thinking and thinking and- If you really don't wanna be together, it's okay-"
Mari wrapped her arms around Jowee, and squeezed. "You're wonderful..."
"Mari?"
"Jowee... I will always love you." She nuzzled against Jowee's fur. "And I want to stay together forever..."
Jowee froze. "Mari..." Jowee's eyes blurred from the tears. "Is that true?"
"Of course."
"I- I'm so h-happy!" Jowee's tears quickly turned into a full on sob.
Soon enough, Mari joined in. "Me too!" Crying, she smooched Jowee on the cheek.
Jowee's paws ran through Mari's hair. It was so soft.
Mari paused, moving back a few inches.
"Mari, what's wrong?"
"I just. I think I've loved you from the very beginning. "
Jowee smiled. "I think I loved you even longer."
"But, other than when I thought you were a boy, I've only ever liked rapogirls. I don't know what It means..."
"Does it matter?"
"Huh?"
"You love me, right?"
"Yeah, with all my heart. "
"And I love you too." Jowee held her paws. "So what if you don't understand everything? We understand our love. That's the only thing that matters."
Mari sighed. "I think you're right." She smiled.
The two continued their embrace, happily in love.

Oh yeah. Drawn to Life 2. That was a fun game. The ending was weird though. Really felt like it came out of nowhere.
Honestly yeah, with Mike being a human and in the first game but not being at all plot relevant, it was just a bit outa nowhere. I remember when I first played next chapter, I did think "oh it's neat that the weird human guy is with us" but yeah. Mari betrays everyone and then when you finally get an answer it's literally the end of the game and they just throw all the Mike coma stuff at you without any prior hints... Outside of the like, very cryptic intro where I guess it's Mike's sister talking to the police about the car accident, and then also near the beginning when Heather (rapo) tells you to "ekimekaw!!!" (wake Mike) very quickly before being taken by Wilfre. ALSO IDK YEAH WILFRE ALSO DOESN'T SAY OR EXPLAIN ANYTHING EXCEPT TO MARI and just doesn't talk much about it iirc outside of "I am SAVING our world!!!" idk if this is addressed in the third games story or not since I never finished it.

what’s going on with BA? 🥺
there are some really good coherent posts if I can find or remember I’ll edit with links but a picture of rapo (the editor in chief) from like pre-2013 possibly where he and his wife were dressed up as Puerto Rican stereotypes. That kinda unleashed the ‘wtf is up with BA’s internal racism’ storm. The former BA photographer Alex Lau tweeted story of reasons why he left BA - mainly highlighting the treatment of POC in the company and the lack of progress they made despite constantly pushing.
It’s then come out thanks to Sohla on her ig story that she is getting paid shit and was thrown in front of the camera without being compensated for camera time or content to show the diversity of BA. Only the white editors are being paid for their video content. Rapo was fired but there’s a lot more that needs to be done within the company but especially compensating their employees fairly. This is a problem in many major companies which are starting to come out in part of the last couple weeks and I hope this shit keeps coming capitalism is evil and workers deserve to be paid for their work
#p#answered#i am a lil high and a lil drunk and probably missing so mych#i can add some links later but !#i am not an expert nor have i kept up with a lot of the ins and outs of ba#this is literally just stuff ive seen on the socials of employees#i know a few of them have publicly supported the resignation of rapo before he did leave#and support that they wont give any more air time until their coworkers are treated fairly#anonymous

A Drawn To Life AU, that’s more like a thought experiment. It only plays into DTL1, so anything beyond that, I don’t have answers for. The gist is that Drew and Wilfre’s roles are swapped.
I’m deciding to call it, “Drawn Out Of Control”.
To explain:
The Mayor takes Wilfre’s challenging views on creation seriously, and asks the Creator for guidance. Drew is created as a chaperone, to ensure Wilfre doesn’t do anything reckless.
The two end up becoming good friends, despite Wilfre’s own, one-sided rocky start. One night, however, a discussion about drawing in the Book of Life is aired out.
Drew offers to try first.
The Book is taken to Wilfre’s home, but what was meant to be a simple flower turned into a color-dripping monstrosity. It almost kills Drew, who blamed the Creator for not helping him at his most dire.
Please note that Drew here is a Creation Chaperone, not a Hero. Due to this, the concept of lives and dying was an unknown. As for Wilfre, he was pushed outside before he could be harmed.
In fury, the actions at the bridge occur, but Drew is the one tearing out the pages of the Book of Life. It takes the Mayor, Cricket, and Wilfre combined to tousle the Book away from Drew, who flees into the night. He’s been considered missing ever since.
Like before, the Creator seals off Creation Hall in grief, and goes silent on the villagers. The creations disappear with time. As for Wilfre, he takes responsibility for what transpired, and has since been serving a life sentence of village arrest. His views have not changed, but has realized that his method was the worst way to go about proving his point.
A few villagers refuse to believe Wilfre would ever do anything so heinous, while others chastise him. Regardless, most of the well-meaning adults tell their children, once they have them, to not talk to him.
The game portion of information will be under the cut.
At first, the events of the game play out like it normally would’ve. The first big difference is that, it’s colorful, vapor clouds that start covering up the village, rather than darkness. The second is that, since the cause of this is the long-lost Creation Chaperone, there’s no Hero for this task.
In an odd decision upon the Creator’s part, Wilfre is chosen for it instead. In place of the world gate-centric guns and eventual Legendary Sword, he is entrusted in the color draining paintbrush scepter. He is told that it can do as such, but should only in areas where “color is in excess”.
And the Creator was not exaggerating.
Meanwhile, Mari and Jowee are wary of such... Risky choices being made, but ultimately go with their wishes.
On the bridge, it’s here when Drew greets them, now completely covered in pure color. He isn’t happy about not being known or remembered:
And in the end, covers the bridge in the prisma vapor. Wilfre can’t get rid of them due to its lack of solidity.
Wilfre promises to tell the others everything he knows, once they’ve saved the Mayor.
The story continues without much other differences for a while, other than Wilfre’s sentence being temporarily lifted until everything is fixed, though it’s unspoken. Something he discovers, is how the siphoned color works - as a power source, it makes him more capable of handling these physical situations. He can also fire the collected color at foes!
The rest of the storyline, such as the Mari and Jowee arc, remain the same. Heather is a strange addition, Zsasha causes his thievery ruckus, the festival happens (though Wilfre is not called to the stage; Navy J still promises to write him a song for rescuing him), the same Raposa are saved, Mari is unsure about herself over inheriting Mayor-hood, everyone wonders what’s going on with Mike, the works. The only difference being, Wilfre is convinced that Mari will do fine.
Periodically, Drew would reappear to inform about the impending boss fights. He dramatically laments that he really misses how Wilfre was, when he was so passionate to make his voice heard, to show everyone how things could be.
It eventually turns to a proposal of joining his side of the fight, that Wilfre is above the rest of the Raposa, and that together, they could reshape the world the way they want it to look.
Wilfre refuses. Times have changed him, and he would rather instill change through steady commitment of indirect, but mindful, influence. It would surely catch on, with time.
Drew then remarks:
After many levels, bosses, and somewhat questionable Raposa rescues, the final showdown is nearing. It is then that the Creator informs Wilfre and the Mayor that the only way to stand against Drew is by emitting a beam of color from the scepter. By this point, Wilfre’s collected more than enough for that feat.
While Wilfre is away at Rapo Towers, Drew comes along and takes away the Book of Life from the Mayor, who was looking for Mari. With all the pages added back, he manifests a weapon to kill the Mayor.
The scene of the Mayor’s passing plays out very similarly, though Mari has no one to lash out at for not protecting her dad. So instead, she does so, at herself.
As creations start to dissipate, Wilfre catches on that it’s Drew’s doing. Scepter in hand, he goes through the secret fifth door, to Drew’s hideout. Compared to how Wilfre’s was dark and bleak, Drew’s is rather inviting and pleasant, but clearly still things weren’t quite right.
Drew doesn’t have a “friend” to have fight Wilfre, when the two are face-to-face. Instead, he’s using the Book of Life to pop in more creations from it like a sticker book. He flies on wings, throws Legendary Swords, and drops meteors. All Wilfre is able to do at this point is drain away all the excess color covering Drew, until his normal form remains.
Despite this, Wilfre is unable to talk him out of his madness, and fires the color beam. It shoots the Creation Chaperone out of the air, and he’s reduced to an unmoving, featureless mannequin on the ground within seconds.
“HE MIGHT COME BACK. REMOVE THE REST OF HIS COLOR.”
“IT MUST BE DONE. PLEASE, WILFRE; DO IT.”
With a heavy heart, Wilfre obliges.
The remaining excess color has evaporated, along with the rest of the prisma vapor clouds surrounding the village. The creations have returned, and the villagers rejoice. While still quite upset from what he had to do, Wilfre feigns pride and happiness to not draw suspicion.
In a moment of thought about the mayoral tradition of signing names, Mari decides that the Creator should sign theirs, as per usual. Then, one of Mari’s first acts as Mayor is to overturn Wilfre’s life sentence permanently.
Wilfre is baffled, but grateful. He decides to hitch a ride with Pirate Beard and Indee, to travel the world “one last time”. He knows he’s going to reach his elderly years soon, so he figures that it’s time to make the most of it while he still can.
This Is Not The End has the same memories and set-up, but of course the protagonist and antagonist roles for Drew and Wilfre are swapped. Jowee bails on joining the trip, like before. He and Mari stay in the Village, while Wilfre and the other aforementioned depart. The story closes here.
Thank you for reading to the end!

Grandparent Families

Me, about 3 years ago: I decided to come up with grandparents for Hunter and Polly! Don't worry, I won't make parents of the grandparents. That would be way too much lol! I'm not going to get THAT carried away!
Me, right now: OH NO I GOT CARRIED AWAY!!!!
Also these are just concept doodles, so yeah lol. So don't expect me to know everything about them all. Though if you want to ask about any of them, I'd love to answer! I mean, I do have some ideas for them.
I dunno if I'll ever do much with any of these Rapos, but it's nice to actually have them there!

How warming seas are forcing fish to seek new waters
Rising sea temperatures are pushing shoals hundreds of miles from native grounds
Scottish fishermen have uncovered an intriguing way to supplement their income: they have added squid to the menu of marine creatures they regularly pull from the sea. A species normally associated with the warmth of the Mediterranean, rather than the freezing north, may seem an odd addition to their usual catches of cod and haddock. Nevertheless, squid has become a nice little earner for fishing boats from Aberdeen and the Moray Firth in recent years.
Thirty years ago, squid was a rarity in the North Sea. Today, boats bring back thousands of tonnes a year though cod and haddock still dominate catches. Nor is this warm-water addition to northern fish menus a unique feature. Red mullet, sardines and sea bass have also appeared with increasing frequency in North Sea fishermens nets in recent years. All of them are associated with warmer waters and their appearance is seen by many scientists as a sign that climate change is beginning to have a serious impact on our planets oceans.
For Scottish lovers of fresh squid, this is good news. However, in many other parts of the world, rising sea temperatures triggered by climate change are providing fishing industries and governments with major headaches. Fish are moving hundreds of miles from their old grounds, sometimes out of zones that had been set up to protect them. In other cases, fish are simply disappearing from nets.
Part of the problem has its roots in past overfishing. But now climate change is exacerbating the issue. Last week, scientists revealed that a vast chunk of ice was set to break away from the Antarctic Larsen C ice shelf, while Arctic sea ice extent is now at its lowest level for this time of year since records began.
And if sea temperatures continue to rise, even greater disruption will be caused to fishing stocks. Fishermen will lose their livelihoods and communities will be deprived of their only source of food.
There is an unambiguous trend, said marine biologist Andrew Bakun of Miami University. If you look at the worlds fish catches as a whole, you find they are made up, more and more, of warm-water species as opposed to catches in previous years which had more species that were from cooler waters.
Seafood is the critical source of protein for more than 2.5 billion people today. However, over-exploitation in the past has resulted in a crash in fish stocks, with the result that the worlds annual catch is now decreasing by more than 1 million tonnes every year despite the availability of the latest fishing technology: nets big enough to engulf cathedrals, echo locators, satellite navigation, and powerful engines to drive boats.
Now climate change is making the management of this threatened supply even more difficult. All the worlds oceans are facing intense problems but the problem is going to be particularly serious for tropical countries, which are often underdeveloped and are far less able to maintain sustainable management regimes for their fisheries, said marine biologist Callum Roberts, of York University.
An example is provided by Bangladesh. Fish gives the nation 60% of its animal protein and is vital to the 16 million Bangladeshis living near the coast, a number that has doubled since the 1980s. However, a study led by Jose Fernandes, of the Plymouth Marine Laboratory of two key fish species, Hilsa shad (Tenualosa ilisha) and Bombay duck (Harpadon nehereus), showed that stocks of both could be devastated by climate change that would affect nutrient flows in coastal waters, ocean temperatures and sea levels.
The introduction of sustainable management measures would offset some of these impacts but stocks still face being cut significantly, the group added. Both the sea and land environment are changing, said Fernandes. The problem is that we know much less about the sea than the land, so it is harder to observe and to intervene.
Think of the problem as a double whammy, said marine ecologist Malin Pinsky, of Rutgers University, New Jersey. Fish have already been reduced to low numbers by intense overfishing and that makes them far less able to deal with increasing temperatures or other effects of climate change.
Pinsky points to the example of the Atlantic cod in the Gulf of Maine. It has been badly hit by intense overfishing. Now it appears that warmer waters have been reducing survival even further. The trouble is that the fisheries management in the area did not realise this and allowed fishing to continue there at a too high level.
Managing fish stocks in a warming world is proving to be a particularly thorny problem, he added. Fish management maps have lines drawn on them but it turns out fish dont see those lines.

As waters warm, fish seek cooler waters and head to higher latitudes, a problem that has also been highlighted in the North Sea. There, closure areas have been set up to protect spawning and nursery grounds of plaice, herring and sandeel from intense fishing. But if species shift their distribution in response to climate change it is possible such measures will become less effective in the future, says a study by a group of scientists led by John Pinnegar, of the government-funded Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas).
Another example of the problem was highlighted last week by the New York Times, which noted that the centre of the US black sea bass population is now found in waters off New Jersey. In the 1990s, it was hundreds of miles further south. Under fishing rules that were laid down then, North Carolina fishermen are still entitled to the largest share of black sea bass catches which requires them to steam north for 10 hours to reach the black sea basss current fishing grounds. By contrast, local New England fishermen are allowed to catch a small fraction of the black sea bass now found in their own neighbourhood and must throw all excess overboard.
The issue has already reached the status of causing international discord, as is revealed through the example of the humble mackerel. Until recently, mackerel in the Atlantic were fished mainly by Britain, Ireland and Norway and stocks were protected by an EU quota system, said Roberts. Then stocks began to head north, most probably because sea temperatures were rising. Eventually, mackerel reached Iceland at which point Iceland asked to be included in fishing quotas. This request was rejected so Iceland went ahead and started catching mackerel in any case.
The result was a drop in mackerel stocks and an international dispute that lasted several years and which has only recently been resolved though this respite may only be temporary. Unless we find ways to adapt quota agreements speedily and efficiently, we are going to see a lot more disputes like this one in future, Roberts said.
This point is highlighted in the study led by Pinnegar, which revealed that anchovy stocks are now spreading along the south coast of England. Talks are taking place to determine whether French or Spanish boats can fish for these on the grounds that these stocks are extensions of existing populations from the south. Others argue that the new anchovy stocks are a separate population that is only now rebounding in numbers thanks to greatly improved climatic conditions, and that French and Spanish boats should be allowed only restricted access to them. The anchovy wars are looming, it would seem.
In addition to overfishing and warming sea temperatures, marine creatures face a further danger: ocean acidification. Increased amounts of carbon dioxide, pumped into the atmosphere from cars and factories, are being absorbed by the oceans, making their waters more acidic. The impact on coral reefs, which provide homes to thousands of different species of fish, is already being felt. Last year, it was reported that a rare underwater heatwave, combined with an increase in ocean acidity, had destroyed swaths of Australias Great Barrier Reef.
This has led marine biologists to warn that all coral reefs risk being destroyed by the end of the century even if carbon dioxide emissions are kept to relatively low levels in future decades. Apart from the impact on one of the worlds greatest natural wonders, the effect on fish stocks, and in particular shellfish, could be grim. Shells of marine creatures are made from calcium carbonate and their formation is disrupted by acidic water.
An example is provided by oyster farms on the Oregon coast. These farms regularly suffer from upwellings of acidic water from deep regions of the Pacific. When this happens, larval oysters die at the point when they have to form their first shells. From the time eggs are fertilised, Pacific oyster larvae precipitate roughly 90% of their bodyweight as calcium carbonate shell within 48 hours, George Waldbusser at Oregon State University told the Climate News Network. They must build their first shell quickly on a limited amount of energy and, along with the shell, comes the organ to capture external food. It becomes a death race of sorts. Can the oyster build its shell quickly enough to allow its feeding mechanism to develop before it runs out of energy from the egg?
Increasingly, the answer to this question appears to be no.
This point is summed up by Roberts. Prawns, lobsters, clams and scallops which now dominate our intensively fished seas all lay down carbonate shells. The fishing industry is therefore badly exposed to risk from more acidic seas. Not only that, acidification threatens the important role that filter-feeding shellfish play in cleansing ocean water. Quite frankly, increased acidity is the last thing marine life needs given all of the other ways in which we are making oceans a tougher place to live.

And then there is question of just how much seafood is actually eaten today. This turns out to be an issue of considerable controversy, one that was stoked last year in a study by Daniel Pauly and Dirk Zeller of the University of British Columbia that was published in the Nature Communications online journal. It indicates that the UNs Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has seriously underestimated the worlds appetite for fish and miscalculated global annual catches. The FAO using figures provided by individual governments had suggested that annual catches began rising significantly over the 20th century, peaked at 96m tonnes in 1996 and have been declining slowly since then largely due to the fact that fish stocks had been so seriously overfished.
Pauly and Zeller put the annual peak fish figure for 1996 at 130m tonnes while adding that levels have fallen off far more dramatically and worryingly as stocks have become depleted at a rate that is far sharper than realised previously. In other words, far more fish millions of tonnes is being taken from the seas than has been recorded by official statistics. This extra annual catch is made up by small-scale and subsistence fisheries and fish thrown back in the sea as discards, according to Pauly and Zeller.
What is particularly worrying about this discovery is the sharp rate of decline of fish catches in recent years. Despite sending out more boats, fitted with advanced fish detection technologies, fishermen are unable to catch as much as they used to.
Nor do Pauly and Ziller anticipate that it will stop. I expect a continued decline because I dont expect countries to realise the need to rebuild stocks, Pauly told the Guardian. I dont see African countries, for example, rebuilding their stocks, or being allowed to by the foreign fleets that are working there, because the pressure to continue to fish is very strong. We know how to fix this problem but whether we do it or not depends on conditions that are difficult.
It is against this grim background that the worlds oceans are warming significantly, with temperature rises of several degrees being forecast by the end of the century. Inexorably, fish stocks will be pushed further towards high latitudes, confusing attempts to manage and to protect them, while the make-up of local fisheries will undergo drastic changes. The stress on one of the worlds most important resources is going to be intense. The great fish migration has begun.

I will admit to being a bit behind on things (Pillar of Tomorrow is translated now, but I haven't read it in English yet, only attempted to do so in Japanese on the first day of the raid,) but... (kinda spoilers below)
At the end of the event, Iroha and Ui are returned to their normal states (presumably Mokyu is as well,) while Nemu and Touka stay up in... wherever the hell they were, to finish compiling the Magia Record. We see Iroha and Ui return to Mikadzuki Villa as well, and given at least the CGs from the current event Paradise Shift, their parents regained memory of them (which I'm curious to see how that's explained.) I'm not sure if Mugenroha counted as a 'deity', I was more joking than anything else. But I think that's the gist of it all, though I'm. Never really familiar with the happenings of Arc 2 and beyond, I'm still working my way through the beginning of the main story for Arc 2 I-
#hope this helps!#but disclaimer: i never know what i'm talking about and today's probably not an exception#I know Paradise Shift is still being translated and whatnot over in MUT#and Pillar of Tomorrow I thiiiiiink is still in the process of being JSON'd?#But the script is translated so you can read it there#thanks to everyone who's been working so hard on this!#magia record#tamaki iroha#pillar of tomorrow#paradise shift#(sorta)#anonymous#rapo answers

For the bingo meme, how abouuut Rena?
You know me too well ^ ^;
Shockingly, no bingo. I don't think the fandom is all that mean to Rena? Maybe I've just been hiding in the tumblr side for too long, who knows?
But if I hadn't made it obvious by now in the last like, three years?, I love Rena, my favorite Magireco character. I've got a soft spot for well-written tsunderes it'd seem. (I said well-written, ya hear me?) Which Rena is. Yes. I am very good at articulating thoughts.
And I wanna make her dress, it's so POOFY I love it
#i'm trying not to write like full essays in the descriptions for the sake of my sanity. sorry all?#yknow in hindsight i should have expect to get Rena for this meme but i didn't expect her so quickly ehe#i'm still taking these!#malignmuffin#minami rena#ask meme#character bingo#rapo answers

Mifuyu seems to be going around, so how about her?
My darling sheep child!!
Why I like them
Mifuyu's mentality is less than 'idealistic', she's a kid who just wants a break from it all. Her wish from the start shows up this, too: "I wish that I could at least be free in my dreams." She's from an overly strict and traditionalist background of old money (derogatory), and was raised to be this demure image of a 'quiet good girl' who never spoke up, never had her own desires, and so on. She had cowardice and a fear of change pounded into her, so it's no wonder she grew up to be such an anxious and fearful adult. Her wish shows us that she firmly believes, at least at the beginning, that she can't change anything, she's too weak to do that, so she just wants freedom in any way she can get it. Her partnering with Yachiyo was both a boon to her by gaining her first and truest friend, but it also cemented in her the idea that she couldn't do anything alone.
Being approached by the Wing of Magius and given the option to undo the terrible fate she learned of all to late, by her own hands, is arguably the first time Mifuyu truly decided to do something, to give her all to make a change of her own power. She wants to save herself and Yachiyo, and that's always been her primary motive, and that's okay! And when she ends up with the decision to either go back to Yachiyo's side and give up all of this, or dig in her heels and continue to fight for her freedom, and the freedoms of all of the feathers whom she's come to love and who've placed their trust in her, even at the cost of driving a wedge between her and her closest friend, she takes the hard choice. She decides to continue to stick with her gut, to keep moving towards her own goal for the first time. And yes, this was a bad idea, the Magius are definitely not to be trusted -- and she makes the vow to herself that she'll fix them in the process. These are children just as lost as she was, albeit for different reasons. She fights until the bitter end, until she has to finally admit that this path won't work, and instead of just giving up, she decides again to keep moving! She might have to swallow her pride, but she decides to keep fighting to find a way to liberate now not just herself and Yachiyo (and Tsuruno and Momoko,) but the younger members of Mikadzuki, Momoko's new group, not just the feathers who chose to side with her to the end, but the ones who didn't, who kept their faith in the Magius even after it was clear they didn't know what they were doing either.
Mifuyu's arc in Arc 2, at least so far, has dealt with her having to develop a backbone, to stick to her guns, but the groundwork was laid in Arc 1. And, she grows into her own when finally given reason to hope. She knows now, fully, that this was the right choice to her, to side with the Union, to fight on it's front lines, but also to accept the ones who fought against her when they have the same change of heart she did. Mifuyu started as a very bitter child, despite her sweet disposition, but she was given a chance to hope -- and when that failed, she decided, of her own volition, that if the universe wouldn't let her hope, she'd make it herself, damn it. Her resistance to change became stubbornness to ensure change, and I just think that's awesome. She's not malicious, but she's not as passive as some of the rest of the cast (at least, not anymore.) She might have to get her hands dirty, but she's determined that her efforts won't go in vain, that what's important above all is not just doing the right thing, but choosing to do the right thing for yourself.
Plus, her character's another great reminder of how puella magi end up with seriously messed-up adolescences, and they don't really become 'adults' the way the rest of society does. They mature through their own battles, but they're having to deal with emotions and traumas on much larger scales than most, without any guidance on how to process that healthily. Mifuyu's tendencies to act like a spoiled child, constantly seeking praise from those around her while also unconsciously expecting things to be done for her when she should have learned to do things for herself... she's been fighting for so long that she forgot (and was barred from) developing the rest of her skills. She didn't have a childhood, but her mind hasn't quite figured out that she's not really a child anymore. She wants to make her own choices, but she still seeks the approval of others the way she was taught by her biological family. Hard habits to break, but she's getting there.
Why I don’t
Unfortunately, Mifuyu's also so desiring of approval and praise that she's really easy to placate with those. She puts up with the Magius, especially Alina, partially because she wants to do the right thing, but whenever she starts questioning if their methods were truly worth the cost, if there wasn't another way, it didn't take much for her to just accept it all when she was externally validated for 'making the right choice'. She seems to have a difficult time recognizing the difference of black-and-white justice and the much more gray morality, and just tends to assume that the ends justify the means, that using questionable tactics is okay as long as she's 'doing the right thing'. In other words, a bit of an extremist. Can't say I don't relate, but definitely not healthy.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Oh man. I'm gonna get hate for this, but... her decision to break off from the Magius in Arc 1 during the storm on Fenthope, and the ensuing battle against the Uwasa of the Queen Bear. Now, granted, I'm actually fond of the 'Heroic Sacrifice' trope, and I felt the writing made Mifuyu's decision feel like it had more weight than just 'they tried to kill me so screw them!' like a lot of people like to claim.
I'll also point out her recent-ish rematch against Kagura in Arc 2, Chapter 11 -- first, the narrative showing us that even if Mifuyu's magic has weakened (and we're never really given any full proof here that it did, the narrative only tells us that magical girls get weaker when they age, which... other, smarter people than me have already ranted on this for literal years,) her intelligence and physical combat skills have only gotten better. Plus, using illusion magic to force kagura to accept the truth is a delightful bit of irony, both on Mifuyu's wish that granted that magic and also just in general.
Favorite season/movie
Not really much distinction in Magia Record, so same as above.
Favorite line
Again, her wish: "I wish I could at least be free in my dreams." She could've wished for freedom outright, but she couldn't even believe that to be an option...
Favorite outfit
Honestly, they all kind of miss the mark except for her casual clothes, IMO. Her Christmas one is an especially atrocious one, fight me.

Head Canon
I'll admit up front that I'm actually lacking on headcanons for Magia Record peeps, but I'll try my best! As for Mifuyu, a common one: she likes sheep! Hence why her outfit has so much fur trim.
Unpopular opinion
I think her attempted sacrifice in Chapter 9 was actually good, thank you, regardless of whether she actually died or not. Mifuyu's tendency to take the 'all-or-nothing' approach while also still very much being a coward balances out the trope.
Also not unpopular, but a negative one: having Mifuyu be Touka's mentor on ethics while the Satomi family is the one paying for Mifuyu's scholarship and having Touka be Mifuyu's mentor herself kind of undermines the 'ethics' part, y'know? Not that Tonkers is a bad choice for a pharmacy mentor (though you could do better,) just that Mifuyu's a bad choice for an ethics mentor for Touka specifically.
A wish
Yo, Azusa family? Back off your kid, let her and her girlfriend and their found family be at peace, you butts.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
Don't make her go back to her biological family. I think I probably made this one really clear actually-

Just saw the character questions you reblogged! I don't know who you've answered about in the past, but how about either Geo Stelar/Subaru Hoshikawa and/or Sonia Strumm/Misora Hibki? I'm almost positive you've probably answered about them already, but they're my favorite characters in Mega Man Star Force (Alongside Luna). Thank you for reading this, even if you don't respond!
YES ABSOLUTELY I WILL ANSWER
Also surprisingly nobody's sent in Subaru or Misora (or any Starforce characters, actually) yet.
Ok I'll do this in two, but first: Subaru because I will always, always be ecstatic to gush over him because he's my favourite. Also, this got super long so read more to save people’s dashes:
Why I like them
Oh god where to start. Literally me. he's literally me when I was a critically depressed hikkikomori kiddo floating in-between grades in high school. Right down to the space nerdiness. But, I digress.
First off, I don't see too many well-written representations of depression and trauma (or PTSD in this case, arguably,) in the media I consume or in general really, but the few that I do see tend to be the kinda 'Izusu Ren' archetype: gloomy, melancholic, tearful, and often self-harming or even suicidal (especially in Ren's case particularly.) This is accurate to some folks, yes! But, not so much to my experience with the illness. I'm not suicidal, I'm not self-harming, I'm not tearful and sad and mopey. And, neither is Subaru! He's not sad, he's angry, frustrated at the world in general and at himself specifically. He's self-deprecating, but also cynical and paranoid to the point of delusion. He's actively forcing himself to stay this way at the beginning of the first game (I'll ignore the anime for now,) because he's so terrified -- phobic, even -- of being abandoned or betrayed again, and it's just... easier to keep everyone away if you convince yourself that everyone's out to get you, or angry at you, or if you just see people as caricatures instead of, well, people. And that's so dead on the mark of how I act, it's almost creepy.
Subaru has no energy, no motivation, and that's what depression does to you, the 'depression' is the depresses energy, 'cause your brain's not producing enough serotonin, enough dopamine, and your nervous system isn't working right. But, all that paranoia and delusion ends up giving Subaru some pretty severe anxiety issues as well, which isn't really surprising given how often those two disorders overlap. He's not a classic textbook-example of depression, he's an amalgam of different disorders, all compounded by occurring in his early formative years! It's not really known if he had friends before Luna gang and Misora, but there's a good chance he didn't have any close ones -- which might have been why he was so close to Daigo, and why he couldn't physically move on from his death/disappearance for three whole years, until Warrock shows up and very literally drags him back into the world.
But Capcom didn't go full edge here, not at all, because once he's given a reason to keep moving, even one he might not have wanted at first, Subaru can't keep up the cynical façade anymore, he can't keep convincing himself he doesn't care about people, because he does, more than anything. I feel, Subaru kinda embodies the whole 'with great power comes great responsibility' line, y'know the one. He didn't choose to fight, he was forced to by the imminent crisis in the moment (either the out-of-control train in the game, or the derailed monorail car in the anime.) He didn't want to fight, he was scared, he straight up has a panic attack in the anime even; but, even if he didn't care particularly about the rest of the town, even if the classmates now dangling precariously over a hundred-plus-foot drop had previously left a bad taste in his mouth, these were still people, and therefore, he couldn't think of them as objects. There's a line he quotes in game 1 during the denpa-human attack that I've already made a whole post on, but I'll repeat it here again since it really sums up Subaru's true view on things: "Even if there was a sliver of a chance, it's better to do something." I compared it to a line said by Shinobu Akira in her story in Magia Record, "Inaction is Cowardice," and I feel that both lines also resemble a principle I strongly try to live by: Noblesse Oblige, or "Nobility Obliges," the ideal that people in power should help those who don't have it. (Or, as defined by the OED, "privilege entails responsibility.") Even if Subaru didn’t care particularly about anybody in danger, or otherwise, once he fully realized that, as Ryuusei, he now had the power to fight and protect others, he had a duty to do so. This was especially expanded upon in game 2, which, yes, joke all you want about the story, but I still feel that at least this part of the plot was handled really well.
Having Subaru break away from the ‘gung-ho warrior of justice’ archetype we tend to see in both shounen and magical girl genre series (fight me), or maybe even just from his predecessor Netto’s pure nosiness and naïve curiosity, let Subaru have a character arc that mirrored the arcs of the characters he fought, and eventually saved. He’s having to overcome his past, the way Misora and Luna were. He was having to overcome the cynicism that had come to be his shield, the same way Gonta was using his image as a cruel ‘tough-guy’ to hide his insecurity. He had to learn to place his trust his new-found friend(s), the same that Utagai had to learn that not everyone was out to get him (and frankly, both had to learn to trust Amachi specifically, ehe.) He had to learn to persevere through the right path, even when facing insurmountable odds, the way Ikuta had to learn to fight for what was truly important to him, consequences be damned. And don’t even get me started on Tsukasa and Hikaru. Hell, Subaru even had to re-learn to see people as individuals, and to place hope in them, the way Warrock had to do when encountering Daigo, and again through Subaru himself. Actually honestly the dynamic of those two is just, fantastic thank you. It kept his character from feeling stagnant, since he didn’t start at a good place, he had room to grow and improve -- but also room to dip back down again, to have impactful ‘darkest hours’, and just moments of true, well, mental illness.
And since the plot of the series is so heavily character-driven, Subaru ends up getting to the point where he chooses to keep going, to keep fighting and protecting others. He chooses to keep his own development going, into a true ‘shining star’ of hope for others. (Ok look I was trying to make a pun here, laugh, dammit.) And the hope others place in him ends up powering him in both a metaphorical sense, and in the very literal sense of the Brotherband. He’s only able to activate the Star Force when he vows to protect Luna no matter the cost. He’s only able to break free from the control of the OOPArt[s] through the force of his will to prevent harm from befalling those dear to him (once again Luna, I know.) And look I’m sure game 3 has an equivalent with whatever’s going on with the Noise Changes but I still haven’t finished it because D-pads are my enemy. He’s only able to be guided back home in the game 1 ending by the collective bond, the Brotherband, between him and his friends, even the ones who hadn’t formed a formal connection were still so dear to him that the connection became a literal path. ...Have I made it clear how much I love the Power of Friendship trope, because it’s literally The Best.
And maybe that’s the core of it all, Subaru as a character, and through that Ryuusei as both an alias and extension of the two characters that form it, embodies the power of friendship, of bonds, of hope so integrally, yet he’s not the annoyingly bubbly, over-optimistic protagonist that usually gets that type of theming -- he’s believable because he falters. He never gives up hope or faith, but he comes dangerously close, and he’s still prone to a whole load of self-doubt and deprecation that comes with being the one shouldering it all. Also, how did this end up turning into a Madoka theme analysis? Whoops. Basically, I like Subaru’s character theming in the same way I like Madoka’s character -- a realistic, but not dark or edgy, response to their situations, and a inseverable, if not unwavering, hope.
Why I don’t
Ok, usually I have an answer here, but... Nope. Subaru is literally my favorite okay, I don’t dislike really anything about him.
I will note that, for the anime’s writing of him in particular, some of the impact of his arc is lost by speeding up his ‘recovery’ from his depressed state. Actually, my problem there might be that the anime kind of implies that Subaru ends up defeating his mental issues permanently, with the only relapse shown in the middle of the season much more to do with active trauma (and some goading from Cygnus) than with anything more deep-seated. Here’s the thing: depression, anxiety, trauma (and resulting PTSD), any other illnesses/disorders you could argue Subaru to have... they’re treatable, they’re combatable... but they’re not curable. They don’t magically go away, they don’t even go away with all the work in the world. Mental disorders are the result of a physical deficiency and/or deformity in the mind, whether neurologically or chemically. And the source of that issue can’t be cured, because it’s a fundamental part of how your brain works. It’s like saying that an autistic person can’t be ‘cured’ of autism -- because it’s a fundamental issue with how our brains are wired to work.
The game doesn’t do this, fortunately, and instead does the opposite: it goes almost out of it’s way to show us how these illnesses and issues are still there, they’re still affecting Subaru and every way he functions. He’s never going to be ‘cured’ of his depression, trauma, anxiety, etc., but he still overcomes them the best he can -- and when he can’t, he’s got friends to pull him out of whatever funk’s got him this time. The anime kind of nerfs Luna gang into secondary characters a lot of the time (though arguably set up to be main during the short-lived and much better Tribes,) and while Misora is sort of set up to take their place, they take too long to fully let her and Subaru be actual friends instead of just teammates. Amachi and Utagai kind of fill in a little, but their adult status kinda makes them feel more like mentors and teammates more than proper friends. (Anime-ver. Amachi definitely feels like an older brother-esque figure to Subaru, at least. Utagai, well... he’s Utagai.) However, I wonder how much of this had to do with the show possibly just not having enough time to build things out at the pace they were moving.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Since I’ve mentioned both game and anime versions here, I’ll give one for both!
For the game, definitely the scene mentioned above from game 1, during the denpa-human attack on Kodamasho. This part of the game takes place directly after the culmination of the Libra arc, which ended in the school play, where Luna mistakes Subaru in a poorly-made costume for the actual Ryuusei (until Kizamaro fumbles his queue and blacks out the spotlight, which, having now worked with a manual spotlight, that’s not hard to do, give the kid a break he’s short.) Luna’s already starting to act on edge around Subaru at this point, since A) she’s not sure who she saw in that moment, but she can’t shake the suspicion that Subaru and Ryuusei are connected somehow, and B) her puppy crush on Ryuusei has started to evolve into a much more tangible crush, but on Subaru instead, so she’s frazzled and it doesn’t take much for her to start going off the deep end panicking when she, well, witnesses her two closest friends turn into some sort of pink floating monstrosity right in front of her. Her clinging on to Subaru instinctively helps cement Subaru into the rare leader role, and we get to see him act under pressure, in civilian form, with a panicked friend in tow. The line mentioned above is given in this part, where after tactically traversing the school grounds for an exit, Subaru realizes he’s definitely gonna have to fight his way out of this one, and accepts this all on his own, no prodding from Warrock, no complaining or cowering, he immediately moves to thinking of how to protect Luna who’s still clinging to him like a lost puppy. So, rare Cool Subaru, a not-so-rare flustered and panicked Luna (which helped to transition into her arc in the next part,) solid character growth on both parties, and my favorite line of all time.
As for the anime, I’d say I’m split between three. The first scene being Subaru and Warrock’s first meeting. It’s so drastically different from the game’s version, but I sort of liked having them get a chance to properly meet before chaos ensued. It’s rather comical, so it sets up the ensuing gravity of the fight to come in the next episode.
The second scene, the Ryuusei vs. Harp Note fight. Note (ehe) that in the anime, Misora was unconscious during this fight, and her arousal signaled the end of the skirmish. As a result, Harp was in complete control of Misora’s body, and that led to a much more dangerous opponent than what Harp Note would be later on with Misora conscious. This fight had a surprisingly little amount of dialogue, given what’s normal for the rest of the series, and animation-wise, you could tell that lead storyboarder Shingo Adachi had his hand in this one, it’s one of the best in the season. Subaru demonstrates real efficiency and skill with the battle card system, as well as the high agility and speed he becomes known for throughout the series. The best part, though, being one of Harp’s lines before the fight -- in response to her rhetorically questioning whether her adversary was Warrock in henkan, he effectively tells her to shush and go back home... and then Subaru responds separately as Ryuusei, with much more dignified dialogue of course. Harp responds bewilderedly asking if Warrock’s host was actually conscious, cementing how rare a team such as the two of them working together was. It’s an early indication of both Warrock’s unique nature among the denpa, as well as showing how in-sync (or maybe in-synchro, this is the same studio after all,) the two are.
The third scene, Subaru returning after the encounter with the Satella Admins to rescue Warrock. Given everything that had happened between the two at this point, Subaru’s decision to throw his wariness and anger of Warrock out the window to save and reunite with him, first, is obviously a really good Power of Friendship scene, which is just the best. But, secondly, it shows more character growth on Subaru, and a lot of it all at once. Warning for spoilers, but Warrock had been accused of being Daigo’s murderer, but in the end, Subaru decided that there wasn’t any way that could be true, that this person that he’d come to know so well just wasn’t betraying him. Finally embracing gut instinct and a blind faith in a friend sets Subaru on the upswing of his arc in this season, and helps to bolster Warrock’s character as well. (The premiere usage of the Star Break coming in the scene after this makes it even better.)
Favorite season/movie
For games, game 1 is my favourite game of all-time now. Like, it’s displaced Drawn to Life, the namesake for this blog even. For the anime, Tribes was better than season 1, ridiculous Gainax ending aside. I just know that if they’d had more time/episodes, it would’ve far eclipsed the source material of game 2.
Favorite line
Already answered above: “Even if it was a sliver of a chance, it’s better to do something.” (I know Daigo said it first but shush)
Favorite outfit
I mean, he wears the same thing pretty much all the time? But, I do like his normal civilan wear, and good ol’ Ryuusei also looks real neat. (Also the concept art outfit from the cancelled game 4 is actually awesome and also the only good thing we got out of that.)
OTP
Look, honestly, Subaru’s kind of shippable with any of the main adolescent cast, but also, I don’t strongly ship him with anybody really. But I guess if I had to pick a pair, Subaru/Tsukasa. Also, Subaru/Kizamaro of all things works... better than it should.
Brotp
Subaru/Gonta and Subaru/Misora! (Or better yet, all three of them as the game 3′s terrific trio!)
Head Canon
He learns to knit because Akane suggested it a bunch of times (she’s canonically said to knit in game 2,) and even though Kodama’s too warm for winter wear, any time he ends up somewhere actually cold, he has a scarf that Akane knitted for him earlier on.
Also, for a decidedly less cute one: since in-game, Subaru would die if Ryuusei did, I assume damage taken in henkan carries over to his civilian form. Thus, I imagine after months of fighting, he’s developed some fairly impressive scars, mostly on the limbs and back from near-misses and being surprise attacked. He usually wears long clothing as shown in canon, so they’re not visible normally, but during Phys Ed and other points where he would have more skin showing, he covers the scarring with a makeup concealer (probably found at like, the local drug store or something.) This would apply to Misora, too.
Unpopular opinion
Y’know, I don’t think I have one of these this time.
A wish
Let him continue to stay with the friends he’s grown so close to.
