Reagarding this post, it occurs to me just how good Rapunzel's memory is, that Matthews could perfectly replicate Rapunzel's experience right down to which guard was at the door and who was sitting next to Cassandra at dinner.

2. Where do you get your fic ideas?

The Muses shoot ideas into my head and my body becomes a mere vessel. 

Sometimes I get inspired by other media and tweak their ideas and see how that works. Pretty often though, I just think about the things I'd like to see in fics and go from there.

20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?

I'm dancing on canon's grave. 

Well, most of the time. My Winx rewrite is my sandbox and my focus is on Domino and the related characters, and since my interpretation of events, plot points, the magic system et cetera differs so much from canon, I'm firmly in the AU camp. That said, I sometimes write pieces that are vague enough to be canon compliant. 

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

Most of what I write has very clear central characters, so I never really struggle with choosing the POV. Whoever has the most relevance to the events of the chapter will be the POV character. Let's say the Company of Light are discussing Valtor, then Griffin will most likely have the stage. (My multichapter Domino prequel will never see the light of day. I haven't written anything down, but I've certainly Thought about it 😆)

Sidenote, but first person is so unbelievably difficult to write in. Third person limited my LOVE

39. What’s your most self-indulgent wip?

The one where I smoosh all my favorite things together, of course.

Daphne is a major character in my Season 3 rewrite, and it features a plot point where her own magic is turned against her - she's put in an enchanted sleep. I was inspired by the episode Rapunzeltopia in Tangled the Series, as it uses a similar setting. Pending title The Lady in Gold.

It stars Daphne in her spirit form, as a warrior-guardian to an amalgamation realm of Magix and Domino. She's simultaneously venerated above other people and expected to give all of herself for their benefit, and as a spirit, she internalizes that role. Once she meets her subconscious self, it forces her to confront the things she's kept buried since she first appeared to Bloom - the anger at the people dehumanizing her, the despair at the Fall of Domino and everything she lost in consequence, the hatred of the people responsible, the desire to live the life that was stolen from her. Bit by bit, the illusion lifts and the dream shatters.

The sequence plays out like a fairy tale, in narrative style and general mood. It's a character study as well as a turning point for her. She comes out of it changed, and I don't just mean as a person, but also ✨plot reasons✨

43. Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?

Platonic soulmates! And I have no idea why I haven't written it yet, because I go verifiably insane over this trope. I don't mean magically predestined soulmates, but rather the people the characters choose to love and connect with. The kind of relationship where the characters bring out the best in each other, and complete and contrast one another as best friends/family is. My. SHIT

51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?

The scope of what I write is pretty limited, as most of it is character studies or snapshots of their lives. That's also what I gravitate towards when reading, but far from the only thing. Show of hands if you love a good adventure longfic, par exemple. 🙋🙋🙋

During the second season, Tangled had 3 mini story arcs where the group traveled to a certain location and stayed for a few episodes before continuing the rest of their journey. I'm just curious which story arc was everyone's favorite?

This secret is safe No reason to throw it away When there's love to be had! -- I haven't done anything with this AU in a while, should really get around to writing for it. This is the same AU as my comic "Unaffected", and takes place during "Rapunzeltopia". Rapunzel and Varian had been trying to deny their growing feelings for each other and finally reached a breaking point after Varian got caught by the altar trying to free her and they realized that they could explore their relationship without consequences in this dream world. Unfortunately, they can't sleep forever, and their feelings aren't exactly fading.

Because I love that moment! I love that hug! I love Tromus revealing his true self in Rapunzel's dream! (I wondered if someone was gonna ask me that. X3)

Sequel to this post!

I have returned with more ROTG art! So a while ago, I drew the pictures of Jack based on screencaps from the TV show, Tangled the Series in a Season 2 episode, "Mirror, Mirror." And recently, I decided to continue the trend with another episode, "Rapunzeltopia," which takes place after "Mirror, Mirror." Basically in that episode, Rapunzel and gang are still stuck at the House of Yesterday's Tomorrow. Only this time, Rapunzel is stuck in a dream where she's back in Corona with her brown hair and the events of the series hadn't happened. So, I couldn't help but imagine Jack and the Guardians in a similar situation.

So, here, Jack and the Guardians are still trapped in a house (owned by a witch called Baba Yaga). After the whole ordeal with the mirror, the next day, Jack wakes up in a dream, where he's back in colonial Burgess...and he never fell through the ice and never became Jack Frost. At this point, he's realized it's not real and tries to escape, so now, he's trapped...in Pitch's lair...with Pitch in the dream. Meanwhile, the other Guardians are still in the real world trying to wake Jack up.

Jack's eyes shot opened. He saw that he was kneeling on the ground in a dark cavern...with cages hanging from the ceiling...and it looked all too familiar. It was Pitch's lair! He moved to stand up, but...he turned around. His hands were bound together behind his back...with rope...made out of nightmare sand. He quickly tried to loosen the restraints...He had to get away. He had to...

Thunder suddenly crashed, and Jack immediately felt the presence of someone else in the room with him. He immediately looked up only to see...the Boogeyman himself standing a few feet away from him.

"Hello, Jack!" Pitch said with a smirk on his face. He laughed as he walked over to the boy. "It’s been such a long time, hasn’t it?"

Jack didn't answer as Pitch approached him immediately scooting away from his captor with a glare on his face...trying to mask his fear as much as possible.

"When will you realize that I will always get the better of you whether you’re trapped in my lair…" he immediately grabbed Jack's brown hair as the boy cringed in pain and bent down next to him whispering in his ear, "…or trapped in your own mind?" He then released Jack and walked away.

Jack glared at his enemy, but then...he realized something. "My own mind…" he said to himself, "you’re right. This is my mind. I’m in control." He looked at his restraints, but he closed his eyes concentrating hard. Sandy always told him that if he concentrated hard enough, he could gain control of his dreams. It's his mind. He has the power to control his dreams. Then...the nightmare sand disappeared into snowflakes freeing him.

Pitch laughed. "How many times must you hear before you understand that Jack Frost makes a mess wherever he—" the Boogeyman stopped as he fell to the floor after something hit him in the head. It was Jack...knocking him out with his staff.

Jack laughed to himself as he looked at the unconscious Boogeyman. "Bunny is going to be so jealous," he said with the smirk never leaving his face.

Pitch slowly sat up and faced him with a glare with glowing green eyes. "I have had…ENOUGH!!" There was a flash of light, and Jack looked up only to see that it wasn't Pitch anymore... It was Baba Yaga...the witch who trapped him and his family in this house to begin with. "You will not escape my control!" she shouted at him.

"You have no power over me here!" Jack said as he threw a snowball at Baba Yaga's face. "You thought by dangling my past life in front of me that I would follow you into oblivion? Well," within seconds, they were back at the lake in Burgess...under a clear night sky with the Moon shining on them...just like that night he was brought back as Jack Frost, "YOU were wrong. I’m a lot tougher than you think. From now on, the only thing I follow is what the moon tells me." He raised his staff and brought it down on the ice breaking it.

"NOOOOO!!!" Baba Yaga shouted as Jack's hair turned from brown to white and as another flash engulfed them both...ending the dream.

Jack shot his eyes open as he gasped and sat up on the table he was tied down to. He was free! He was back in the real world, and he immediately went to free Baby Tooth from her little cage allowing her to fly onto her shoulder.

"JACK!!" a voice shouted. He looked only to see that it was North with a huge smile on his face. "MY BOY!!" Jack saw that he, Bunny, Tooth, and Sandy were restrained by vines up against a wall. The vines suddenly wilted, and North and Bunny fell to the floor while Tooth and Sandy remained in midair.

“GUYS!” Jack shouted as he grabbed his staff and jumped off the table running to his adoptive father while Baby Tooth flew over to Tooth. Jack and North wasted no time in pulling each other into a tight hug thankful that the other was okay.

“We’ve got to go!” Bunny suddenly said getting Jack and North’s attention. “This place is coming down!” He was right. The house was crumbling…and it was going to collapse on top of them if they didn’t leave immediately.

“Follow me!” North said as he went into leader-mode as he grabbed Jack by the arm and running for it leading them out of the house. He refused to let them get separated again.
