In practice, it is said that we journey OFF THE GRID hoping to help them find their way back. We are currently OTG. When my good brother, Thaione Davis, reached out to me about creating this instrumental album, I immediately fell in love with the idea. It’s been a while since I’ve released some new music. Loopy Fiasco is my only other instrumental release and I dropped that back in 2017. I put my side of Off The Grid together with my newborn son laying in my arms and made sure every track had his approval. He definitely was an A&R on this one in his own way with his facial expressions. I’d look at his reactions in the studio to the sounds coming out of the monitors as pure as pure can get, since he was only four months old at the time. We listened and tweaked each track until I felt satisfied with the vibe. My goal was to bring people into a different environment through the music and use this album to take their mind to another place. Even if it’s just for a moment. I’m feeling very blessed at this point in my life and this album will be like a time capsule for these moments. I am very thankful and I look forward to you enjoying our art for years to come. When I saw the synopsis before watching the episode I was so confused. Claudia going to college? The way the synopsis sounded was like welp, she just decided to go just for the ~*experience*~ and then Louis and Lestat had to deal with being empty nesters during the  the Great Depression alone. So yeah, they really undersold the episode by a lot.

Seeing the total dump the townhouse becomes in the 7 years of Claudia’s absences was another painful thing to experience. Even if the random racoon was funny. The picture of depression and desolation, my heart felt heavy watching this. To top it all off, the argument...like this isn’t fun, I want to get off this ride. 

I do wonder why Lestat stayed, why bother? Why not leave? Did he think if he waited 20 years one day Louis would stop being depressed and they could go back to whatever fantasy he had of their relationship? 

On that note, after watching the episode for the first time I couldn’t help but think of Hades, the videogame. One of the themes of that game was the idea that being immortal meant that eventually you had to solve your issues. Some of the elements are familiar. Hades is willing to kill his son, Zagreus, over and over again to prevent him from escaping. Eventually (and as Zagreus comes into his power) you get to a place where the relationship between Hades and Zagreus, while not a-okay and not without scars...it does show some potential for reconciliation.

Anyways, to wrap up that tangent, the point is I’ve seen the ‘immortals fuck up a lot but it gets better with time’ type of story pulled off before. It’s not completely impossible, but it’s going to take a lot of work. 

So we transition to the scene between Killer and Claudia. I have to agree with a lot of people. I didn’t like that they did this to Claudia. I don’t think this added anything and it wasn’t in the book, so I didn’t like it. If the point was to show that vampires can be bad news there are many ways to show that.

We go back to Daniel questioning Louis about the 4 ripped pages. Daniel you ain’t shit and you know it. You knew where you were and who you were provoking. Like sure Louis has generally waved it off maybe with a snarky comment or two about internet classes. But even Louis, even one determined to push this suicidal quest to get the story out is dangerous. That’s his point.

But yeah Louis also deserved the slap, that shit was scary as fuck. Like these vampires are scary y’all. I also see your theories on Rashid being able to pull Louis out of that and I subscribe to them because again, something is up. I would like to get to the bottom of it. 

Lowkey as much as the whole Antoinette infuriates me, I need to know what the fuck is going on with that. Why? 

“You’re not my Louis, you can’t be”. "I prayed myself old thinking about what to do about you. God never talked back, so this is what it has to be. For me, for my family. You understand?” Ok and this is where the tears start. This was so sad.

And then we don’t get a break because Claudia returns and shit goes all the way down. But firstly, I am so here for Claudia and Louis’s vampire hunting adventures in Europe. That whole premise sounds like a good concept for a tv procedural. But would it have been necessary if Lestat told her anything she asked. She wants to know! She knows Lestat knows. But I think Lestat wants her to go and not come back. 

“That’s right keep ‘em scared. That’s his way. But I think he’s scared. And when he’s scared he ridicules.” I mean...is Claudia lying? Is this not years of experience? Louis has to know.

So okay, here’s the thing that is going to haunt me a bit. Had Lestat not attacked I really don’t know who Louis would have stayed with between the two of them. 

This scene is still shocking. I really don’t have any eloquent thoughts. I do admit screaming in shock watching it for the second time. Once again, I don’t subscribe to the ‘unreliable narrator = lying’ explanations that sometimes I see floating around on social media. I think this did happen, yes, as people pointed out there was weirdness with not being able to see everything and the dialogue in that scene. Which I do think could be interesting to explore in future episodes, but when it comes down to it, I do think this actually happened.

I don’t know, I feel a little a little lighter after writing my thoughts, but this is going to stick with me for the rest of the week. I do think the episode was gripping. I do think I enjoyed it even as dark as it is. But again, I’m curious to see where we go from here.

Cinderella Phenomenon (January 2022-Mid-April 2022)

Something I downloaded to see how my new PC would work with games and I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. Its an otome game/visual novel with a lot of content and non-conventional female MC who actually grows immensly in every of 5 routes, it was such a joy to play. Plus, in every route you discover something new about the world and story. Check it out if you like fairy tale-esque plots and interesting developments! Ranking of the boys/routes: Karma > Waltz > Fritz > Rumpel > Rod

Red Embrace (Mid-April 2022-Mid-May 2022)

It's a BL visual novel. Interesting setting, compelling characters and I have one complaint: its too short. You can literally spend 2 hours on one route (there are 4), but also the story is kinda predictable in this first installment. I liked it though! Especually Dominic's and Rex's routes. A game to play when you want to relax. My ranking of the routes: Rex > Dominic > Isaac > Luca

Maelstrom (Mid-May 2022-Mid-July 2022)

Another BL with interesting setting and a very retro vibe to it! It wasn't explicit to the extent I was expecting, but still made a compelling story and there was some gore that game warns you about beforehand. You really start caring for these guys and their future. Don't take some discussions in it seriously, tho. Also, watch out for bad endings, THERE'S A LOT OF THEM! My ranking of routes (based on personal preference): Jader > Helix > Zheng-Li > Sawyer

Amnesia: Memories (Mid-July 2022-Mid-November 2022)

Probably most famous game on this list, I wanted to play it for a while. It's a typical visual otome game so take some things in ut with a grain of salt and I lost my mind from anger in a few places (fuck Toma, I hate him), but the setting and the whole thing with Orion and the game'e mystery really kept me on edge more than once. My ranking of the boys is: Kent > Ukyo > Shin > Ikki (Toma is not even considered, I want him to burn in hell)

My Burning Heart (Mid-November 2022 - Beginning of December 2022)

Take this yaoi visual novel with a lot of grains of salt, it's not too serious and don't think too much about what's happening in it. It's very enjoyable for relaxation and voice-acting is very good (especially for Sultan and Harun), but yeah, if you want something meaningful and deep, this ain't it. Still very fun! My ranking of routes: Sultan Rashid > Halim > Harun (though I started to like Harun, he's such a sassy and awful bitch)

Currently playing HADES from SuperGiant and I'll probably write about it a lot in the future mostly because I LIVE for this game and will play it religiously for at least half of 2023.

Faizan from Rashid: Her Ruthless Boss – He was Rashid's personal assistant. I thought the budding romance between him and Jasmine was cute, but, of course, her happily ever after was with Han. I'd like to see him get some happiness.

Sierra from Waylon: Angel and the Ruthless Reaper – She was Amira's friend and former co-worker. I wanna see if she'll ever settle down with just one biker or keep switching them out like underwear. Plus it'd be nice to revisit Angel Pond, if she's still there.

Sasha and Kasha from Ruthless King (formerly titled Zahir: Her Ruthless Sheikh) – They're the twin sisters of Prin Jones. I wanna see them find love and because I'm ridiculous I want them to fall in love with twin brothers (just like Layla and Roxxy from Her Ruthless Tycoon and Her Ruthless Cowboy but with maybe a pinch less drama).

Antonio from Waylon: Angel and the Ruthless Reaper – He's Amira's foster brother. His street gang upgraded to an entire cartel, so now I think it's time for him to find the right woman to upgrade the rest of his life. And, come to think of it, I wouldn't be mad if that woman was Sierra.

Melinka Hale from Hades: Stephanie and the Ruthless Mogul – Stephanie had a meeting with her because she ran the charitable wing of Weiss Fox Beer. I'm kinda hoping that she's the woman who Lukas Brandt bailed on his wedding for.

Emilio Alvarez from Alexei: Her Rustanov Billionaire (formerly titled Her Russian Billionaire) – He was Alexei's friend and assistant before Alexei promoted him to run the New York headquarters of Rustanov Enterprises. Eva described him as “tall, lean and exceeding handsome”. I was intrigued and ready to read more about him, but we never saw him again. How's Emilio doing in NY?!

Bruno Monceaux from Her Wild and Sexy Nights (Dim the Lights, An Anthology) – He was a midfielder for the Paris L’élite football club. He mentioned a romance he had with an American woman he met while doing charity work in Cameroon, and I need to know what happened. And for their story to have a happy ending.
